While I agree with the general ‘need for solo queue’ sentiment, GW2’s current population can’t handle separated queues between hot-join, free tournaments, paid 5s, and solo queue.

I definitely think it’s something that should be revisited in the future, but I hate to break it to you – having solo queue implemented ASAP isn’t going to save the game.

Simple things like incentivizing PvP for the majority of the playerbase (ie exp from sPvP, laurels from PvP dailies, etc) to revamping the hot-join and free tournament systems into something a bit more cohesive seems much more important.

Just my 2c.

Sure the system will try to match you against a similar team, but it won’t always be able to and it will have to compromise. Which means that you will be put in an unfair match up against a more organized team. Losing that will be frustrating and will hit your rating, too. There just needs to be a separate solo queue. There is no way around it.

I’m assuming that if your group can’t find a perfect 5 pug match, it would match you with the next 2/3 bracket, with 2 players in a duo, and 3 randoms. Just a guess though.

Again, not arguing for or against the system, just explaining how it works (to my understanding.)

The biggest problem is the combined ranking hits. =/

Queue for what? Free tourneys or paids?

This is for paids. I don’t remember if they said they’ll be using the same system for frees. I think it’s something they said they’d look into. My brain is fried right now.

Note: I’m not arguing for or against this system. Just explaining it as far as I understand it.

This system still combines solo and premade ranking. Keep that in mind.

JPeters dropped by Gasmask’s stream a bit ago and explained the details of the system they’re implementing. He said he’ll be posting about it more in-depth shortly, but I’d like to toss it out as fast as possible. These forums are on fiyah.

Anyways, in the proposed system (the one they’re working on) the premade and solo players ARE combined, however, the way the matchmaking works means that you will be extremely unlikely to see them matched up against each other.

The queues will be based off of team composition. If you queue 5 players, it searches for a team consisting of 5 players with a close MMR.

The main takeaway is that your group composition and MMR dictate your opponents.

If you queue 4 players together with 1 random, it will look for a team that queued with 4 players together and 1 random, with similar MMR.

If you queue 3 players together with 2 random, it will look for a team that queued with 3 players together and 2 random, with similar MMR.

If you queue 2 players together with 3 random, it will look for a team that queued with 2 players together and 3 random, with similar MMR.

Most importantly, if you queue solo, it will match you with 4 other solo players, and then search for another team made up of 4 other solo players.

They said in the SOTG that they’re going to use this system initially and will revisit it if need be in the future. The SOTG should make more sense with this information made a bit more clear. Hope this makes you guys feel a little better.

Look out for a red post on it!

So, we’ll have about an hour for discussion. What are some things you guys would like to see discussed? I’ll try to get as many viewer questions in as possible, but I won’t really be monitoring chat during the show so I’d like to hear them beforehand.

The folks at http://www.gw2lfg.com (kind of obvious here, but it’s a site to help players find dungeon groups due to lack of dungeon finder) have added PvP LFG functionality. You can now select tpvp-paid, or tpvp-free on the site. Hopefully this helps us form some cross-server PvP groups.

I think today is the first day they’ve had it implemented, so don’t be dismayed if there many people aren’t signing up. It’s hugely successful on the PvE side of things. Give it time!

Maybe in the future they’ll give PvP it’s own tab.

Guide to make this game attend the next MLG

in PvP

Nord.5360

I’ll throw my 2c in.

I know everyone has their own ‘ultimate fix’ for turning GW2 around, even if they’re ignorant of the logistical difficulties and cost barriers to do so. With that in mind, here’s my grand vision for GW2. (Entirely my own opinion, of course.)

My “AMAZING OMG THANK YOU GROUCH” plan is composed of two parts:

1.) Revamping the current tournament system.

-Use the existing tournament system exclusively for DATs (coming soon?) and MATs. (Automated tournaments)

-Create a MMR-based single-round matchmaking system on random maps. This will allow paid queues to pop at literally any hour of the day, compared to currently mostly being able to queue for paids during NA primetime.

-Separate queues for solo and 5 man. QP’s only awarded to 5 man rosters. (Reduced QP per win. (You’re playing 1/3 less for it, you know.)

-Tournament ticket system needs to be revamped. If it’s going to be single round, the cost should be reduced by 1/3, right?

2.) Turning Heart of the Mists into a standalone (but still integrated for full game purchasers) free-to-play client.

F2P games for the most part enjoy the benefit of robust player population, obviously attracted by the option to trial something for an extended period of time without obligation. I don’t think that anyone is going to argue against an injection of new blood into the mists.

In my head, it works much the same was as (gasp) League of Legends. When you initially download the HoM standalone client, you are given one character slot. With this character slot, you are free to create any one of the three professions in the ‘free to try’ rotation, however this one free character slot is only able to play one of the trial professions. Once the rotation is up, you’ll have to recreate your character, or purchase that profession. Ideally, the price for a profession or slot is around $5.

Buying all 8 professions will put you out roughly $40, less than the current non-sale price for standard digital edition.

Additional benefits or limiting factors could be introduced to make flat-out purchasing the complete Guild Wars 2 client (PVE funtimes included) more beneficial. I have yet to map these out.

I’d like to stress that I’ve only spent limited amounts of time fleshing out the free-to-play HoM model, and if you have criticisms or feedback, feel free to do so. I’d like to see the idea evolve somewhat, even if it does seem a bit far fetched.

I’ll probably tune this up later on. Have to head out!

Here’s my post on the subject from about a month ago. I don’t care who gets credit as long as it’s taken into consideration.

So, I’m going to hijack this awesome thread for a moment.

I’ve been reaching out to some of the more prominent players, looking for things that they’d like to see discussed on tomorrow’s State of the Game. However, I don’t know who everyone is.

If any of you guys would like to contact me directly and discuss the content of the next show (what you want to see discussed, what you don’t want to see discussed, etc) feel free to contact me in-game today. I’ll try to make it a point to idle in the Manvil Rock Mists (top of the stairs!) for the rest of the day.

In fact, if you want to tell me your favorite kind of cookie, or something like that, I’d be happy to discuss it with you as well.

In game: Nord.5360.

(If I don’t respond immediately, I might be afk. Feel free to send me an ingame mail, or a private message on the forums, and I’ll get back to you.)

Cheers.

GW2 PVP Feedback [Merged Topics]

Agree with the video in its entirety. Like someone else mentioned above, I really do like the idea of ‘competitive matches’ rather than ‘competitive tournaments’. Sitting around waiting for 8 teams just to play one tournament is absolutely destroying the queue times for paid tournaments.
