I have rarely used the torch as I love the horn skills, perhaps ill give it a try. been looking to try a new build on my ranger anyways as bows get boring after a while.
They’re all games that have been out for longer than GW2, so obviously they have better driver support.
I don’t see the need for insults, it’s like you don’t actually want any help.
A couple of days ago?
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/guild-wars-2-performance-benchmark,review-32511.html
Monday 27th August. 2 days after head start. Pre 2 Nvidia driver updates and 1 (possibly 2) AMD updates and CAP updates. Pre many many GW2 patches.
Look at the benchmarks, 670 averaging over 60FPS on best appearance. That goes against what someone else told me about the same benchmarks too.
Your issue could be something as simple as corrupted data files, a misconfigured control panel settings – unless you actually act like you want help you’re not going to get anywhere.
No. I don’t have any corrupted data. I also had good FPS first days till some patch a week ago, so yeah. I got no corrupt data, nor anything else corrupt. I play all other games as I should and its not about drivers; NVIDIA SAID on the forums that they can’t do anything about it, since its so heavily CPU based (too cpu based = bad optimized). So yeah, its not my computer, its the optimize for specifically my card and my processor. Anet failed hard.
And I get no errors, there’s NOTHING wrong on my computer, since again, I play all other games as I should and I get much better performance than you in most games. So it is.
Are you using antivirus? do you have realtime scanning on? what other programs do you have running in the background. Do you have a web browser open playing a flash video? All of these things greatly reduce FPS potentially.
At the moment it is a lottery, you could spend over £1k and still not get above 15 fps.
There is nothing you can do about a poorly optimised game.
I would hold off buying a new computer until they address the serious problems in the game first.
I disagree. I think that most people getting low FPS is due to some issue other than the game. Granted I have an above average gaming rig, but its not liquid cooled crazy rig. You can build a system like mine for right around 1k probably.
CPU: Core I-7 3770k overclocked @ 4ghz (Core I5 will work jsut as well)
GPU: EVGA Gforce 580 3072 GB (factory overclocked)
Ram: 32 GB DDR3 1600 (G. Skill Ripjaw series) really only need 8GB as GW2 is 32 bit client (that leaves 3.75 Gb for game, rest for OS)
HD: C drive is 120 GB SSD (Not needed really, only helps with load times)
I run game at max settings, with AA turned off, depth of field turned off, everything else at absolute maximum 1920×1080 resolution.
I get a consistent 50-110 FPS Pve, 40 – 110 in WvW depending.
I have also tuned my OS services and such, and I dont run any kind of antivurs on my gaming computer (I have a server dedicated to running scans on my network remotely).
Funny how 3 out of the 4 are in Charr region.
…is a dead ranger
I assume you mean melee?
Liquid cooled rig with 2 560’s SLI and only 40-80 FPS? I run a core I7-3770k with a single gtx 580 and 32Gb ram, and I get 50-110 FPS even in WvW. (CPU Overclocked to 4GHZ on air, temp never exceeds 50 celsius)
How is it you get significantly lower FPS than me with what appears to be on the surface a superior rig?
Answer: SLI is something that should be avoided at all costs. VERY few games are actually coded with this in mind (even if Nvidia says it has a profile for the game, or that the game maker says it supports SLI is NOT the same thing) 99% of the time SLI = lower FPS than single card solutions.
A game coded for SLI with drivers that are coded for SLI = better performance than a single card solution, but again 99.9% of games dont fit this.

I have a 54 Ranger, 34 guardian, 14 necro, 11 Thief, 8 Warrior, 6 mesmer, 6 Engineer, and 8 elementalist.
I also cannot decide which on to get to 80 first. I am trying to stick with the ranger as so far thats the class I am best with, but am getting a little bored with it.
I mainly PvE with some WvW thrown in for a change, and I find that in WvW I have a lot to learn ;p. (I tend to run out alone and get squished by zergs. Dont do that hehe)
The game is very fast paced imo (which I dont really like but can deal with it) so until I REALLY know ALL the skills of a class I dont do very well, so in addition to finding one I absolutely love, I need to memorize all the skills before I can play it effectively, which makes it hard to choose a main.
Good luck, I hope you find one you love!
For Pve I go with axe / warhorn and shortbow. I can take on mobs 4 at a time equal level without even being hit usually.
For pvp, I suck too much and avoid it entirely ;p. Well, i dont really suck so much, its just that (I only do WvW, as Spvp has absolutely no interest for me) in WvW I find that whoever has the bigger group wins. nothing to do with skill in my experience, just whoever has the bigger group of people. And maybe its just me, but it seems like I get targeted before anyone else by all the players and die next to instantly. Even when Im in the back, they always seem to go for me first, which is an unwinnable situation.
I tried being a melee ranger, but so far melee ranger sucks in my experience, and it had nothing to do with traits. I am fairly ok in the dodging department, however you just cannot dodge enough and avoid enough damage for a ranger to be viable in melee. but this is only my experience.
I read tonight that there is a command line argument to add to the GW2 shortcut that enables HD screenshots in .bmp format.

When I made that post I was running the 306.02 beta drivers. I jsut downloaded the 306.23 drivers today and will test the client tomorrow when I egt home from work.
Aside from the randomly disappearing geometry, which was probably due to having ambient occlusion enabled, I had no other problems. I will make sure I disable that when I test.
Aside from that, I get a consistent 55-110 FPS depending at almost max settings, no AA, supersampling on, shadows high.
I did a clean install of this build last week, and the only issue I ran into is transparent geometry every so often. Seemed pretty random, no idea what caused the problem.
I rolled back to the latest WHQL certified drivers and this reduced the problem greatly.
I would have to agree 100% on this post. I just hit 53 on my ranger, and am now playing alts. I understand that the game will change over time and I am not discouraged to keep playing, I jsut wish i could find a class I like to play 100%.
i have so far tried Guardian (33), necro (14), and thief (11), and so far I dont know which one I want to take to 80 first. I liek them all, and i dislike them all.
I LOVE GW2. I love its innovation, and all the features about the game. I love how exploration is encouraged and rewarded, and I look forward to incredible fun in WvW.
I just wish I could figure out how to hit 80 on any particular class. Perhaps I should group more instead of solo as it feels to me that his game was not made to solo, which has always been one of my rpeferred ways of playing (only because Pugs usually suck so bad, and my play times make it difficult to join a guild and play with them.)
They did not nerf farming, Anet has made it clear that they would prevent farming by making drops stop after a certain amount of time. Its a way to fight botting and the like.
I would suggest that you go from map to map of the appropriate level to get the mats you need, and thus avoid this problem.
Again, this is a design decision, not a nerf.
You actually want a good match between CPu and GPU, having a $600 GPU doesnt do you any good if your running a dual core CPU. My suggestion:
CPU: Core I5
GPU: Nvidia 580 or ATI Radeon 7xxx series (I stick with Nvidia personally)
Ram: 8 GB DDR3 @1600
Rest is up to you, but those are the main components you will want to runthe game smoothly at high settings.
Thats my 2 cents
If you own an nVidia GPU. GW2 is not the game for you

I will start with basic machine specs:
CPU: Core I7 3770k overclocked @4 GHZ
Ram: G Skill Ripjaw 32 GB DDR3 1600
GPU: Nvidia Gforce 580 (stock settings) 3072 MB
HDD: OS and game on 2 SSD 240 GB Raid 0
PS: (dont remember brand) 750w
MB: Gigabyte Z77x-UD5H (blows, considering changing as it has an unspecified random freezing problem)
On absolute max settings and with supersampling on I get 60-120 FPS everywhere including WvWvW (although ive done very little WvWvW). I never crash with the exception of 2 times that were completely random and that is due to a MB glitch I have). I can run GW2 for like 10 hours straight with no crashes.
I upgraded to the 306 beta drivers, and it ran great, no crashing. However, I noticed blinking geomtry that it disappears then reappers if depending on the camera angle.
Rolling back to the 305 official drivers (dont remember exact numbers, at work atm)
has anyone else had this issue?
Edit: I actually still have this issue on the officially supported drivers, but it is much less frequent

I finally found 1 character to stick with until 80, which is Ranger.
That being said I pretty much plan on playing every class to 80 eventually hehe. I also plan on lvling all the crafting disciplines to cap.
Sounds like User Account control to me, however, if you hit yes the installation should continue, not stop, so if it is UAC then that shouldnt be what is killing your installation.
Check your windows application event logs and see if there is anything there about GW2 installation. That will give you information that you can then use to identify the problem.
(right click my computer and select manage. On the screen that opens click the arrow next to Event viewer → arrow next to Windows Logs → then left click on application.)
Im only lvl 37 at the moment, but under those circumstances I have never had that issue. In any event I was part of start to finish and actively participated in I got credit. Hopefully its just a one off glitch and not a symptom of a bigger problem.
PC/Laptop: PC
CPU: i7 3770k @4ghz
GPU: Nvidia GT580 3072 GB
RAM: 32GB DDR3 1600
HD: 2 240GB SSD in Raid 0 (OS + GW@ client)
HD1: 1 2TB 7200 RPM (storage + media + everything else)
FPS: 55-110
Al settings at max with supersampling and shadows on ultra

crud that didnt post as I had hoped, guess I should preview next time.
The top part is a quote from earlier post if it isnt obvious.
Since I can’t transfer to any servers where my friends are since they’re all permanently full and Anet doesn’t seem to care, not a whole bunch. I have no motivation to play. I sort of wish this game had a monthly fee so when I quit when they lock transfers and am still stuck alone it would mean something to them, but they already have my $60, they couldn’t care less.
You really believe that? Anet cares so much about their customers that they stopped sales of their game so that they can get the time they need to get more servers online. I jsut read today that they are doing that and should have them online soon to compensate for the large population. I havent seen ANY MMO company (Including the giant) care as much about their players as Anet does.
And since lvling is so easy, why didnt you switch to your friends servers day one and not have this problem?
for a ranger lvling up pve, I have been stacking power, precision, and condition damage, but I think the condition damage is a waste on Rangers.
I am specced marksmanship / skirmish mainly, with leftover points in nature magic as well. I dont currently have any problems PvE, I am able to take 2-3 mobs 2-3 lvls higher than me at once and survive.
I am wondering though for AC and other dungeons if I need to give up some precision or power for toughness.
Any advice?
Guardian was my first toon past 30, and although I loved that character, I got sick of having nearly no ranged ability at all.
So i then rolled a ranger, and havent touched my guardian since. I absolutely love being ranged and tearing things up WAY faster than my guardian ever could.
So for me, ranger so far. Eventually I will play all classes to cap though ;p
