I think I found a post in Game Bugs that addresses this issue, this thread can be closed. Thank you.
I should add that this issue is specific to GW2, no other programs have this issue on my PC.
Ambient Occlusion is not enabled in Driver settings, and ive played with all of them and nothing I change, whether its in game or in the driver settings makes any kind of difference.
Hello folks,
I had this problem a while back, and I dont remember how i fixed it. I just had to replace some memory that had gone bad, and after rebuilding my system (Everything is up to date) In certain places in the world the geometry, NPC’s, and players disappear.
I am not sure if its the newest Nvidia driver, or a setting in there somewhere (Ive been playing with them one at a time, but nothing seems to fix it)
CPU: Intel Core I7 3770 (Not overclocked) 3.5 – 3.9ghz
Memory: Gskill 2×8GB Dual Channel
GPU: EVGA GTX580 3GB (factory settings)
Disk: Corsair F120GB SSD 2 Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM 3.0 GB/S | 1 Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM 6.0 GB/S
Any help is much appreciated!
Yes, the manifesto worked indeed.
Do you really think most people who bought the game bought it on the strength of the manifesto? Really? lmao
You’re a bit fixated on that manifesto. Strangely I saw the manifesto, bought the game at least partly on it and I’m not disappointed at all.
To each his own.
Considering how many people bought the game and subsequently left, I think it is safe to say that the ideas behind the manifesto permeated the rumors about this game and once people realized it was another WoW clone, they left with the same distrust in MMO hype as all the others.
The only thing that gave this chance a shot at actually living up to the hype is that GW1 did break the mold. GW2, however, did not.
You actually called GW2 a wow clone? you do know the definition of clone right? this game has NOTHING that wow has. Aside from an auction house (Trading Post) I cant think of anything that is even close. Ok, you could argue that they have dungeons, yea. but there are so very few similarities that it blew my mind that you made a wow clone reference. And if your trolling, you definitely got me.
This is a troll post, nothing of value in here
Or maybe I suck at interpretation, and continue to assume stuff even though it constantly bites me in the bum hehe
Not only did I not get the humor, I missed everything lol. Sorry bout that.
I certainly can understand needing a break and whatnot, I made a couple assumptions based off the text, and got it wrong.
I love good humor, too bad I missed it this time.
I dont see that machine playing the game, but why would you choose to play at school instead of learn? That makes no sense.
That laptop packs a lot of punch – if all you have is a Vic 20, otherwise that laptop is worthless as a gaming rig. And I mean completely worthless.
It’s an MMO that I can mostly play solo, that makes it the only good MMO in my opinion:)
So you play MMO’s because you like to play solo….
Can I introduce you to some fantastic solo player games that will blow this one out of the water?
Whats wrong with someone who wants to play the game solo, yet have people to chat with while doing it? Thats still partaking in ‘Multiplayer’ gameplay to an extent.
Your comment insinuates that one should never play an online game solo. Or at least thats how I read it.
I get tired of playing with people who want to do speed runs in dungeons. I prefer to go slow. I most specifically do NOT play to be competitive. I dont care what other people can do, I am only interested in what I do.
I like being able to choose when I group and do stuff and when I want to go solo stuff. I get up a lot from my desk while playing, and dont want to burden down other players with my gameplay habits.
For that matter I hate Pvp. I hear people complain all the time about how computer NPC’s are too easy. All I can say is let me program that game, I GUARANTEE you will NOT say that, no matter how hardcore you are, once I was done with it. I dont play for bragging rihts. I play to unwind after work and enjoy myself.
TL;DR There is nothing wrong with playing an MMO solo. Its just some folkspreferred method of gameplay.
So ban the IP. If its a known hacker with a provable history then ban his IP. and for every one of these people that you find that you can prove that they are known for hacking and RMT, again keep banning these IP’s.
Or better yet, simply block access to china. In perpetuity. No more Chinese RMT hackers.
I had a similar problem, except that I cannot remember or find any of my GW1 account info. I have the discs lol, but no manual, and the email account associated is long gone.
Actually, I would think from a coding standpoint that making a race change potion should be easy as pie IF you assign a value to every storyline quest for that character, then after the change you give the newly changed toon completion for x number of quests finished. As far as choices made in there, perhaps have a window pop up that gives you the choices. I really dont think it would be very hard at all. Im not even a programmer and can already think of how to do it.
Or, force the character to replay the storyline missions from the first one. I would be willing to do that and bring my 80 charr ranger back out of retirement (I cannot STAND ANY of the charr gear for rangers. A charr in any kind of top hat and coat is just plain stupid)

The beauty of GW2 is that they designed it so that you can do whatever you want, in nearly whatever order you want, and gain decent exp while doing it.
My suggestion would be to build a tank build for running dungeons, at least until you are comfortable with them and know the encounters. Too many times have I had difficulties in dungeons because the rest of my group dies and I am left trying to solo a boss (You cant, ive tried ;p)
Now I certainly am not the most gifted player in GW2 (I stay away from pvp cause I suck so bad ;p) but I can usually hold my own. I liek the survivability of the necro in my current tank build (from Nemesis’s videos) that even though I dont kill stuff as fast, I can have 5-8 cursed shore mobs (any mobs, doesnt matter) and never go below 50% helth (usually dont even get to 75% health). I dont even dodge, I jsut tank n spank since I am nearly invulnerable hehe.
I dont have the PVT gear either, so champions are hit and miss which ones I can solo, but ive soloed a couple mid lvl champs so far with relative ease.
Anyhow, sorry about the long post. Give it a try, only one way to find out.
Personally, I am telling folks who are new to GW2 and runnig dungeons for the first time to go with a tank build until they learn the dungeon, then try what you want. I think people would have more fun at that point and less frustrated.
I wasn’t in a PUG, I was in a guild group.I just used that as a powerful example to get a point across. I am still new to this guild, so I don’t know if these folks are experienced GW2 players, new people, or what. I myself have only been playing GW2 for 3 months (took a break between November – March approximately)
I would say that its your opinion that glass cannon is best. i’ve been in way too many groups, pugs and guild groups, in several different dungeons (AC, SE, Arah, CM) and have yet to see a glass cannon spec outlive me in a dungeon. Not saying they cant, just saying that I haven’t seen it.
I would amend your statement to read: Glass cannons can perform very well in dungeons
I would still very heartily disagree on the ‘best option’ bit. IMO most people should run dungeons in tank spec as your average person doesn’t have the knowledge or skills, or both, to survive in a dungeon (in EM, not story mode)
what is it about GW2 balance specifically that is making you say that?
I find the classes to be VERY well balanced, along with the mobs AI in the game. Its not perfect, but its better than most MMO’s on the market today.
Oh and I will be the first to admit that I am not the most talented player around, yet the other day I was soloing a champion mob in (Same zone as Maw, I forget name atm) on my guardian (lvl 80, exotics, no ascended gear) in a glass cannon spec and after I killed him I had 3 people standing there saying how impressed they were with the encounter, so I must not be a complete doorstop.

Try jumping and dodging at the same time
I second this! rewards nowadays are all about gear or minipets. I want something different as a reward.
I am sorry if this came off as an angry post, because it isnt, merely an opinion that was not meant to inflame or insult.
At this point it has nothing to do with balance, I suppose they just want the game to be boring.
Just look at the state of GW2, can you tell me it’s balance in either pvp or pve? We faceroll all content, glass cannon is the best option thanks to the insanely high HP pools with lame or non existent mechanics mobs have and conditions are just way too limited to be viable.
Pvp is either glass cannon or bunker. Meta’s don’t change, the game has been in the same stale state since launch.
Why? Because there is no shift in balance, not enough skills or builds to even change the meta if you wanted to. We have tried, and failed. If they can’t even balance what incredibly small options we have now, then they may as well let us have some fun and add in variety.
I’ve lost any hope I had of e-sports, this game isn’t GW1 pvp and it never will be. It won’t even come close to that level, ever. I’ve come to terms, so why can’t ANet?
I couldnt disagree more. Go run a Pug dungeon group full of glass canons and see how much fun that is. I ran SE last night with a group, and since I was a tank setup I was the one who carried the group through the dungeon. I constantly had to keep rezzing people, which led to me asking the group what their builds were. Low and behold, they were al glass cannons!
I find GW2 to be pretty well balanced, I cant speak to pvp as I dont do that and wont. I dont care about competition, I dont care about esports, I simply want to have fun, which I do right now
And are you saying that a glass cannon guardian has a high HP pool?
ahh ok, thats what I thought. (darn it ;p). Thanks!
Did I hear wrong and he said that you can actually transmute light armor skins on to heavy armor and then have a heavy armor character wear that gear? I would love to have some of the medium ranger gear on my Necro lol. (Or heavy plate ;p)
Well, I must be awful lucky then cause I get at least 1 ecto every other salvage attempt with a good 60% of the time being 3 ectos per rare. Ima go buy a lottery ticket!
Yea I also VERY rarely crash (maybe once in the last 2 months). The sound thing (which is the crash that I had) is more than likely due to cheap onboard crappy sound cards (I have yet to see a Mobo with an actual decent sound card, and just because it says creative xifi doesnt mean its good)
I since picked up an Asus Xonar essence STX and havent had the sound thing happen once.
Your right. I read the title, which said PVE (not dungeons, not fractals) and then formulated a response based on the title. Now that I read your post fully, I find that I have nothing to add. Didnt mean to de-rail your post.
Thank you Nemesis for this build! I just switched to it last night, and even without the right kind of gear (Im all condition gear) I still have ridiculous survivability. Ran COF last night and I never went down once, a first for me!
THANK YOU! (Anet, Nemesis, and everyone responsible for my pure joy in this perfect game for me)
I dont run fractals much yet (working on 100% world completion, and I must suck as its been a month and dont even have 40% yet lol), however, I just switched from a conditionmancer spec to a well / tank spec. I dont even have PVT gear, I have Power VItality and Condition gear, and I still can solo Champion mobs (at least one for certain ;p)
I cant wait until I get a full set of PVT gear (I dont run dungeons much yet, my time is limited and chaotic) and see how this build rocks.
In my current build I can solo lvl 77 champion mobs without even have to worry about dodging or fancy tricks.
I have an 80 Ranger, Elementalist, and guardian, and out of them all the Necro has the most survivability, easily. And I mean like 10x the survivability even. I haven’t tried an all out tank build on my guardian, so its possible that the guardian can match my Necro, but right now Necro is just too much fun.
I was taking on 4 to 5 people in Wvw at once and holding my own (at least untl their friends showed up and put me in the ground hehe)
How many classes can have 32k HP, the ability to regenerate 25k HP every 25 seconds with decent aoe dmg and 3.5k power 3.1k armor, and a second health pool that I can refill within seconds.
This is something that nearly every MMO I have ever played, seen, or read about doesn’t do. Instead of gear being the reward at cap, why not have new and special emotes (or animations) that are unique and stand out?
Personally, it would be cool to have one of the only toon son a server that can actually jump up and hi five NPC’s, or other players with that emote, or whatever our imaginations can dream up.
Rewards dont always have to be coin or gear.
Just an idea.
As the title says, i wonder if Anet will eve come out with a race change potion. I have an 80 Charr ranger that I just don’t like the looks of, no matter what gear I have. I would love to be able to switch to a different race, as I cant seem to make myself play the character since I hate the look of him.
honestly, its almost this fact alone that keeps me from playing GW2 a lot more. I rarely log in more than once a week now because I don’t want to start any new characters, I want to stay on this character.
Did not know that. So if I dont pvp (I wvw a little) then there is no way I can get 100% map completion is there?
Is it possible to guest on a server that has control of that map?
I just finished lvling my Ele to 80. I don’t pvp, I am pve exclusively. I have all exotic gear and runes.
I am not the most skilled player, however, I can hold my own. After trying many builds and gear setups in the mists, I have come to the conclusion that anyone who CLAIMS to be able to solo a champ is outright lying or hacking.
It IS NOT possible to solo champs. Don’t even begin to think you can. You will NOT have the survivability, no matter what anyone says. Go ahead and give it a try and see how quickly the champ beats you down.
Now if there are champ mobs out there I don’t know about that are very weak (basically vets with a champ symbol around their name) then I don’t know about them and haven’t tried to solo them.
But any Champ that I have tried to solo couldn’t be done. Again, go ahead and flame me for saying this, but I know what the truth is.
Stick with the Mesmer, it sounds like what your looking for
@wolf I may not be able to, but again why would I want to? the GS does SO MUCH dmg, and still has mobility, that I would rather use that than the glyph.
I would like to see if thee is any way I can play an Ele that is specced to use the weapons. Not concerned with top DPS (average DPS is jsut fine, I pve, I do NOT pvp at all), I am not into bragging about how much dmg I do, or how many champion mobs I can solo. I just want to have fun and relax, as this is my escape after work.
I asked this question in another foum but it didnt get answered.
I do not like glyph of elementlas (elite). I think the greatsword is FAR superior. You get two, one equipped and one for anyone else to use, or yourself once the first one runs out, does tons of dmg and has decent mobility. How does this not trump the glyph of elementals?
Personally, as far as gear is concerned, I stuck with explorer’s gear (Magic find gear) while lvling. Since lvl 1-70 are cake and no real challenge, I found that ANY build works just fine in PvE.
I don’t pvp at all, so I cant speak to that. Been waiting to hit 80 and learn my class before playing any pvp, of which I intend to do VERY little. (I don’t find the value in pvp like others do. nothing but bragging rights, and I could care less)
Lvl 56 Ranger
Lvl 52 Guardian (current MAin)
Lvl 14 Nec
Lvl 11 Theif
Lvl 8 Warrior
Lvl 6 mesmer
Been playing since EA.
seems like everyone except me knows where to find cool looking armor Lol. I have almsot all rare armor, and it looks like I am wearing a trench coat and feathered hat. Dumb!
I forgot, My ranger is lvl 58 now, and I havent looked at the racial armor. I probably dont have enough tokens or whatever though for it.
My level 60 Ranger
wicked! what armor is that? im at work, cant post my ranger, but heis charr, and so far all the char armor is extremely stupid looking. He basically has a trench coat and feathered hat, how dumb!
Personally, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed Toa even though most people seemed to hate it, I enjoyed it in wow for the brief time I played that, and I enjoy it in GW 2. i was hoping for an entire water only zone to adventure in, personally.
I plan on having 1 of every class (already got the characters made and slots bought) eventually. Whether or not they all make it to 80 is another story, but I have invested in GW2 for the long haul.
And the great thing is: I can take a break, and not have to worry about a sub!
Everyone is feeding the troll. Of course he isnt serious. if he thinks he is serious he is brain damaged.
funny story here -
I decided to login today even though i didnt really feel like it, and when I zoned in i was in the middle of a DE with 3 champion wolves. I assist in killing the wolves, only to have a champion Centaur boss spawn. We kill that, I grab the skill point, then a giant pair of hands spawn, and another champion boss mob. Little did I know that we arent supposed to kill the hands (better rewards I think) but we do anyways, and finish the DE. There was tons of dodging, avoiding aggro, CC, pew pewing, and it was an absolute blast!
I then realize why i was getting bored with the game and not connecting with the classes very well:
I was trying to play the game like a solo RPG. For me, this game needs to be played with a group of people to fully realize the potential of this game.
I am so thankful to Anet for putting out a game that breaks the mold, forges new territory in MMO gaming, and gives me something to play besides Skyrim ;p
Back on my way to 80! (I gained 2 levels from the DE chain events alone in like an hour, 56-58)
(edited by Notsure.7028)
I got frustrated for the first time today and had to log off, i was going for a skill point (forget the map) and I had to wade through an entire army of centaurs, and once I got to the skill point it popped 3 mobs, 1 veteran. No big deal, except that all the centaurs respawned middle fight and smashed me.
I could not go back as the respawn rate was too fast, so basically i found a skill point that I cannot solo.
Whenever I hear ‘Hardcore’ players complain about no hardcore ruleset or server I hear a bunch of Greifers who are unhappy that there are no ‘Sheep’ for them to gank.
Just like some of the posts here, nearly EVERY hardcore PVP server or game has not survived.
I dont like Pvp. Never have. I doubt I ever will. Certainly a part of it is that I am not very good at Pvp, but thats not the main reason. just like some people complain that they find no challenge to fighting a computer oponent, I find no enjoyment in fighting other people due to game mechanics and network / server lag, and targetting difficulties in a lot of games.
You can make Pve pretty hardcore and still be challenging with enough time and effort. And most people are happy with that. WvW actually does interest me a little, IF you get a good team on a voice channel that cooperates and works together. However trying to do WvW pre 80 I found to be very difficult as there is most definately a gear / level difference in GW2. So I will wait till 80 to do that, IF I can stay interested in GW2 long enough to get there.
There are lots of lvl 80 armor sets, but leveling up there are basically two armor graphics per profession. I absolutely loathe the charr leather armor, looks so stupid on my char ranger, I really regret rolling char, wont do it again. My char ranger looks like he is running around in a trench coat and top hat, really stupid.
I imagine that char heavy armor looks cool, but thats about it, I havent seen ANY charr medium armor that looks cool.
Its the fine materials you need that are extremely expensive, and not easy to get. I harvest every node i come across, I loot every mob, and I dont skip mobs when doing skill points and whatnot. yet I find myself having only just barely enough fine materials to lvl one crafting profession, let alone all the rest.
I fully agree, crafting is something best left until long after 80 and you max out every fine material.
