Precursors and WvW

I know this has probably been discussed before but I would love to see a Dev response to clear it up (if that has already happened them I apologize and would love to see a link to such a response). My question(s) are A) can precursors drop in WvW from what things would they drop from ( so players? Guards? Lords?) C) is the drop rate, while already very low, even lower in WvW than in PvE?

I wish everyone would stop making such all-consuming accusations about each other in here…A few observational notes from an outside PoV since I’m simply here scouting T6 for Kaineng:

1) DR IS bigger than both AR and NSP, denying this is absurd and deserving of recriminations as it is painfully obvious from watching.

2) DR also has many skilled Players, that includes PRO, GASM, Bsty, etc…some more skilled at actually winning/helping the Server than others.

3) NSP is sadly lacking in communication skills, I personally do not believe that even if they had equal numbers to DR they would win. The fight would be -better-, but I still give the edge to DR due to them actually working as a unit.

4) AR and NSP are falling into the annoying cycle of attacking each other while ignoring the monster in the middle. If 2nd and 3rd place would stop attacking each other and start fighting against DR then they would both do much much better. (Neither side can claim innocence, I’ve seen lots of red in NSP BL and lots of blue in ARBL.)

5) Being a part of a Server allows you a lot of surprising insight! I’ve gotta say that NSP’s greatest strength is actually several small groups of Ninjas who take keeps and such. Won’t mention Guild names since it seems they’re still unknown to DR or others, but I will suggest DR be more careful! These Ninja are VERY good.

As much as it pains me to say this…props to you PRO guys this morning. Had some great fights with you (many we didn’t walk away from). Keep it up, was refreshing to fight some really tough opponents!

Also to the big guy with Twilight, you have officially been dubbed captain legendary by my guild….aka the first target we set

How do any of you guys telling us that Zergs are just as important as a 5 man justify when our 5 man gets 3x the “Zergs” kills every night? Ur answer going to be because you take keeps an occupy attention?

Well take 5-8 camps kill 20 dolyaks 5 sentrys, ninja a keep on the opposite side of the map and kill 30-50 players while you stand with 20 people and fight over one keep for an hour…thanks for all your serious support.

my [pro] 5 man has successfully taken 3 garrys, 6 hills, 4 bays, 3 towers, countless camps and yaks, multiple clutch defenses, and wiped a [PAXA] 5 man.

we have seen your group out and we typically go around it because your in a pointless spot like ruins(i mean seriously atleast set up siege or something in a camp to make it look like your doing something useful).

also im willing to bet those 20 people you mentioned managed to get FARRRRRRRRRR more then 50 kills

usually i do fight to fight videos and i didnt know about the 15min limit youtube has(was lazy this week), so i just picked the visual interesting fights instead of doing win/loss commentary.

So…just to clarify once again. That video shows you (not sure if any of your other guild members) killing 2 of us, me (the thief) and our Mesmer. Now, in order to do this (and I could be wrong), you needed 6 players on the ground, one by the gate, and at least 2 arrow carts shooting us from the walls. Furthermore, this group you had was not all PRO (at least from what I could tell) but rather you participating in a keep Zerg defense…making you “5 man” comment earlier pretty invalid.

Now, obviously there are things I could have got wrong there…but from what I can tell you posted a video of you dropping 2 of us with 5 buddies and 2 arrow carts. ….I fail to see the impressive side of this? Please clarify?

Good to see more of NSP gangs running around in small gangs! Love the strike squads keep it going boys! Btw PRO is good but have always seen you in Zerg. Gasm on the other hand have seen run around by themselves and were quite skilled and tactful…by if you guys remember I was the asura engineer that tailed you guys behind NSP EB keep other day and killed a few of ya

We here at PAXA we believe that most important/fun thing to do in WvW is to kill other players, no matter the situation or cost.

Far be it from me to tell others how they should have fun in a video game, but that sounds a lot to me like hitting a tree with a bat while the rest of your team is trying to play baseball. I would have thought that sPvP or arenas would have been a better outlet for that style of play. I’m at least thankful that the majority of players in NSP play WvW smarter than that, though, since it makes the game way more interesting for those of us in DR.

Without the small groups that do the whole killing other player thing with the camp and the ocasional tower claiming, zergs would have a much harder time taking keeps and whatnot. I for one really wish we ran across more small 5ish man groups from your server. I’m sure they’re there, just haven’t seen it yet. Or maybe you guys are just “smarter than that.”

Please reread my comment. I never said anything against small groups not being eminently useful. I took issue with his statement that his group liked to more or less randomly kill other players “no matter the situation or the cost”. That’s not useful to anyone. I run with small pug groups a lot, but almost always for the purpose of taking a supply camp, killing enemy roamers that are attacking important yaks, defending against other small groups of enemies trying to take one of our camps, creating crossed sword diversions on the enemy map, making an enemy waypoint contested, etc. And yeah, I think that’s a lot smarter than assassin teams looking for random kills.

Just to clear this up, my comment about “no matter the situation” was under the assumption that killing any other enemy player, no matter their location or activity, would be a benefit to the “realm” at large. Every player dead is one less person getting in the way of your Zerg and, as an added bonus, is an extra badge in my pocket.

Over all we are pretty indiscriminate, if your red you will soon be dead

We dont need to organize a bunch of non-killing oriented people. We run a 5 man every night and get 3-4x the “Zergs” kills. I dont care about gathering “forces”, I care about how many kills PAXA’s 5 man gets a night. The server is meaningless to us unless you are in our vent every night.

Let me clarify a bit what Dylic was getting at here. By no means does PAXA believe that the rest of NSP is “crap” or that they are worthless. In fact, I would argue that we are one of the biggest supporters of NSP building a bigger/better presence in WvW overall. That being said, our viewpoint on WvW can be quite different from many other guilds, especially large, “zerg” oriented ones. We here at PAXA we believe that most important/fun thing to do in WvW is to kill other players, no matter the situation or cost. However, because of this belief, we sometimes come under fire (have been called worthless) from larger guilds when we do not follow “commanders”/ stay and defend keeps where no enemy players are present.

Overall, there is room for both the small mans/large zergs in WvW…we just need to accept that our play styles/desires are different.

Now, back to the killing!

Can you imagine a forum where people could only give others credit for being skilled opponents as opposed to overcompensating by writing huge walls of texts about their own “prowess”.

Sorrow’s might be having a hard time right now but overall I have a lot of respect for you guys. My guild has been having some great 5v5/small group battles with you over the past couple of weeks and have really enjoyed it!

As to the “state of the realms”, I personally do not hold a lot of stock in those “ranking” numbers. Speaking from my entire past experience with WvW in GW2, I have never seen a match won by anything other than a server who can front a bigger zerg for the most consecutive hours…pretty much PvE raiding their way through keeps. To me, this type of “PvP” requires no skill and can be accomplished by anyone with enough bodies and catapults to overwhelm any opposition. IMO, the real skill in WvW is the small group fight that really test a players ability…especially when there isn’t a 20 man zerg behind you to back you up.

BUT, those are just my thoughts….either way its been good fighting you Sorrows and hope to see more of you out there this week!

New gear...maybe an answer?

Hey guys here’s an interesting idea I just had after reading about the new ascended armour. Having played DAoC I am personally really against the whole gear " trend" mmos have taken over the last decade and would much rather perfer a realm rank/realm rank ability system for WvW advancement. That being said, i do actually see potential for this new stuff. From what I’ve been able to gather from forms/other websites this new gear will function as sort of a one stop shop advancement vehicle…get it once and then constantly upgrade it through these “infusions” or whatever their called. Now while most only see the PvE side of this, I see a great way for ANet to add in some of those WvW specific bonuses we’ve been looking for that, most importantly, could only be obtained through WvW.

For example: let’s say you get a piece of ascended gear (say some gloves). These gloves, while better than exos, will come along with (and I’m making leaps of intuition here) some upgrade slots that will allow you to alter/better the armour through infusions. Now, lets say that if you have say…idk…600 badges (or perferably a rank system based on badges AND player kill amounts) you can get a special infusion that adds 10 toughness as well as a 2% reduction in root durations on ur character in WvW. Suddenly not only have you found a new drive for people in WvW to work/kill for, but you’ve also created a great way for both PvE/ WvWers to benefit from future updates to this apparently long term ascended system.

Now obviously many people will gripe about how this reinforces a grind/unequal playing ground I’m WvW…but personally I think this whole “equality for everyone” is crap anyway (after all…what’s the point of being the fighter if you don’t get some rewards/recognition for it?!) BUT all of that aside I believe this type of system would open up huge doors for ANet concerning WvW as well as provide them a great way to tweak WvW without having to wait for a huge pve update to do it!

November 15th Massive Update: Precursors Addressed?

Not to be rude…but you all need to stop conducting the complain train.

To rant, legendary precursors are SUPPOSED to be incredibly difficult to obtain…that is why they eventually make LEGENDARY WEAPONS. In the “old” days of MMO gaming nothing came easy…AND such things as grinding for a whole year to get something you wanted was not unheard of but COMMON. For example, in DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot) people would have to grind for THREE YEARS to even come close to realm rank 10…and not a single person threw a fit about it! Besides, if ArenaNet made it “easier” to get these weapons, then you would probably end up complaining about how “everyone has them”…accusing ArenaNet of lacking endgame/high end loot. Honestly listening to people cry about how “this item is too expensive…I’m not gonna pay that much for it! Arena Net fix it!” is like listening to a child who lost their ice cream. Grow up and realize that its okay for something to be difficult in a game because it means the eventual reward will be so much greater! In fact, I would be willing to bet ALL of the gold on my character that those who have earned their legendary the hard way (aka no gold sellers) probably feel incredibly accomplished and are proud of their achievement. No fatigue is felt on the day of victory…and instead of griping about how “unfair” the legendary system is on the forums, you could be out there working towards your weapon!

Reason for WvW?

100% agree with you Moon. Played DAoC myself and I still consider it to be the best MMO, let alone pvp game, ever created. However, while I think that adding in a Realm Rank system into GW2 would make it the next best (if not better) thing…I don’t think it will happen any time soon. For one (and these are my opinions alone), most of GW2’s playerbase is of a “younger” MMO crowd…never having experienced anything as hard/satisfying as DAoC. This being the case, introducing a system that would literally require not only years of play to “achieve”, let alone all the bonuses/power gaps that come along with it would have most of this community in an uproar. Furthermore, due to this unfortunate mindset, most of these players would probably get frustrated/quit before they really could understand just how satisfying getting to RR8 feels…leaving Arena Net in a bind for taking a risk on implementing anything really RvR like.

Overall, I would LOVE to have some kind of rank system in the game…but the fact that players are already freaking out about simple things like legendary weapons (getting to RR10 in DAoC would like be crafting 100 legendary weapons…without the ability to buy anything btw) just does not make me believe it will ever come to pass.
