I was a running a Shortbow Ranger since a week after release, and compared to most other condition stacking builds, we have it easy. Super easy. Elementalists AAs are their most consistent condition stacking skills, but they tend to be slow, so it’s hard to maintain any sort of stack. Then their big stacker, Churning Earth, has a 4 second channel time. Try playing a condition Ele, then come back and say that Rangers don’t have it easy with their bleed stacks. The problems is not with Crossfire itself, but with Crossfire compared to other bleed-stacking skills.

I pack a ton of condition removal on my Elementalist, for instance, but Rangers still give me a little bit of trouble. I’ve yet to lose 1v1, but their ease in stacking those bleeds makes condition removal lackluster. Between Cleansing Fire, two traits to remove conditions on attunement swaps, and the condition removal on Phoenix, Rangers still have an easy time maintaining a stack of 8 bleeds. I’m not saying Crossfire is OP on it’s own, but that it’s far better than most condition builds in terms of maintaining stacks.

To insinuate that anything isn’t OP because only a few people used it before, and no one noticed doesn’t mean it isn’t OP now. And I don’t just mean Crossfire (as I said, it’s not OP), I mean anything. Pistol Whip didn’t become popular until a couple of weeks in, but then suddenly it exploded and now that people understand how powerful it is (though I’m not sure I can admit it’s OP) doesn’t mean that it wasn’t powerful before. Get it, yet?

And Rangers -do- just spam 1 to stack bleeds. Sorry. It requires little effort otherwise. Most of a SB Ranger’s effort is put into kiting, not bleed stacking, as that is entirely automated and efficient. You don’t setup Crossfire, you keep yourself alive while Crossfire does it’s work. I know, I play the kittening build, too, but at least I can admit it’s significantly better than most other condition builds.

actually stacking one condition 20 times is less efficient than stacking 3-4 different conditions. necromancers played well can do this far better. besides if you really are only using crossfire then you are missing out on alot of other really good ways to kill people i am sorry you havent found anythign to fit your playstyle better but if you want to stack conditions or use a condition build at least swap between shortbow and ax/torch so you can have more than one condition that way you cna at least hope they dont remove all your bleeds if all you are doing is staking bleeds then you will not be very successful against anyone with condi removal(most of the community)

actually i use my shortbow as a a utility weapon most of the time my main form of damage comes from my sword, if i am getting trashed by a super high burst class then i pop protect me and dodge if its high conditions i pop my signet that puts my conditions on my pet i use the poison dodge cripple and stun from my shortbow and use crossfire till weapon swap comes off of cooldown then back to the sword its more reliable damage and has dodges built in saving endurance for crucial dodges. warhorn has hunters call which is really really good damage and i have might fury and swiftness on demand with 5 warhorn

can use either serkers amulet or soldiers depending on if you want more survival or more crit either way its a good build

if you are getting killed by xfire you are blind, slow , or …nevermind remember to dodge anything that is doing alot of damage to you you will find that OP specs are alot fewer than you think they are

telling me thata necro who can efectively drop 3different kinds of conditions extrememly fast (and i am understating this) and ranges only effective condition is bleeds, makes me laugh as you mention condition removal, if you let me as a ranger stack 10+stacks of bleeds on you and do not use condition removal to revove all 20 stacks of bleeds you are wrong…as a matter of fact i prefer condition builds in most classes i play but find them too easily countered by condition removal.

I have switched from conditions to power based play and while i still can stack those bleeds on you if you dont dodge or simply turn and face me then one ability that removes 1 condition completely removes ALL of them not jsut 5 stacks not jsut 10 stacks but all of the bleeds that i have placed on you…

therefore claiming crossfire is somehow overpowered because i can use quickness and stack one type of condition on you thats just silly, even power based stacking for pure glass cannon damage with no survivability crossfire spam cannot hit the burst warriors or thieves can and it is easily removed(conditions) or mitigated(toughness/dodging)

i do not have a stun or immobilze to use with that ability to force you to eat the entire burst such as bull rush or immobilize poisons i have a 1.25 sec daze if i am flanking you that basically counts for 1 seconds since of travel time of the projectiles.

if all a ranger is doing is spamming that ability then that is because you are letting him..a bad ranger will still keep spamming it a good ranger will use the rest of his shortbow abilities and then swap to axe or sword to really put the hurt on you.

if rangers did not have quickness we would have no burst nor viable option to be support/bunker so we would be below elementalists and necros in terms of support and below everything in terms of killing power.

because i have a pet most of my ability damage is below average compared to everything else, due to crappy pet AI and surivability and broken f2 ability usage coupled with uselessness of spirits, a ranger has to rely on abilities like quickening zephyr to make up for this lack of burst.

you talk about a lack of effort involved in using my autoattack, then you are not seeing the rest of my abilities that i use on a regular basis for every person i fight. that means they hit so low as to avoid your notice or i actually killed you using only crossfire, and ill be honest here if you just stand there and let me hit you with it i am sure as heck going to do it.

if you remove quickness from all classes you will find that no one will bring rangers to tournaments and hardly anyone will run rangers at all (of course from what i see thats already the case) where as warriors and thieves will be invited because they dont need quickness to burst anyone, it just makes it easier.

this is very disheartening, the one mechanic in this game that encourages point defense as opposed to zerging, i will tell you that underwater combat is fluid and smooth, if you understand your abilitys, alot of times the abilities you have are different than what you actually spec for (hundredblades,backstab,) but if you cna actually learn to play this game in all aspects and use all of your abilities except 2,2,2,2 then underwater combat becomes so much better. the sharks are not a huge challenge they are very squishy and take next to nothing to kill

if you have to take the point from a defender+sharks you are going to have to grab that point with more than one guy, bring 3 guys and you will usually win…no matter how many sharks are there…this is a learn to play issue as much as i hate to say it …learn your class learn your abilities and dont go up against 4 sharks and a player by yourself, that is just silly

in regards to paid tourneys, i consider my self a very serious pvper, but i am not going to pay to pvp, not only is that ridiculous in my opinion but half the time i cant afford those little extras …its one of the reasons i am enjoying GW2 (it being subscription free)

the other side being i want to play with my friends in sPVP i want to help build strategies and practice so i dont look like a huge noob when i go into tourneys, and with streaming being very easy to do nowadays i would rather have my stuff together before i go against one of these streamers and have my unpreparedness broadcast for all to see.

there should definitely be a way for guilds to practice together outside of just jumping into tourneys.

if they had a practice tourney selection that was free and garnered no rewards in regards to rank, glory, or rating then i personally would be happy that way i could get my guildies to join and work on strategies without the experienced players crushing us. of course those would not be as challenging as “real tourneys” but it would give us the opportunity to practice our strats. so when we do venture into the tourneys we will at least have some level of preparedness.

highest crit by anyone else in one swing is at most 4-6k if thiefs backstab or any other ability were limited to that i would have no problem, i dont mind high burst but anytime you can hit harder than everything else means its not balanced a ranger and engineer both have the same survivability as a thief and no matter how you spec them niether of them can hit for 10-17k in one sing/shot, no matter how they build or sacrifice survivability for burst, it jsut isnt possible.

Are there counters to it…yes but the fact remains its not balanced and its very very broken. there is a simple fix remove the amount of +% and add a simple additive modifierso from stealth they get +200 damage instead of +200% i cna beat most glass cannon thieves, but that is if i am 100% perfect with everything i do and all my cooldowns are up.

pistol whip is fine hundred blades is fine backstab for that much burst in one swing is broken. no matter how you counter, backstab is broken and needs to be fixed

i dont htink its the map chat that is the issue here, sure farming glory by trading nodes is a more effective way to farm glory…I DO NOT CARE ABOUT THAT!…i personally want to go in and play a game and not have to deal with hey man we are jsut dueling in here go somewhere else. or the node flippers, this actually pisses me off far more than losing a fair well played match because at least that is fun.

i dont even care about glory gear i will always wear the gear that shows off my guild symbol since that is what is cool to me .

please do something about this and please allow dueling in the mists because not having it is silly and basically forces us to use empty maps to duel in to test specs out or other reasons people have for dueling..

to be honest i have been thinking about this myself, i won many many games today as well as lost a few, and it is far more profitable “glory” wise that you jsut need to zerg and farm kills…for some of us we are waiting on guildies to get it together and jump into tourneys so until then for people like me that prefer structured pvp this rewarding of zerging is annoying if not down right insulting.

my suggestion is to offer points to those holding nodes as well, my buddy cna hold a node for awhile against another tema long enough for help to arrrive, but since he is on the point the whole time and not specced to dish oout tons of burst. rarely does he get alot of points via kills, and if the node never gets challenged he is stuck with 10+win bonus compared to a zerg team that can get 200+glory for a loss, since you get so many points for the kill.

while getting points for killing is cool you need to be rewarded for winning…playing objectives defending points. i am sure there is a spec my friend can use so that he has some killing power but he just doesnt want to do that he wants to be tough and extremely durable, hes not into huge numbers or lots of conditions.

and because of that he gets last place on points on almost every game even though he is probably the most valuable player on the team!

i can only say hey man its all good you won the match for us so many times before i out rank him by 5-7 ranks because i am specced for damage and he is specced for durability…we understand the trade off, but rewarding the zerg over point control is not what SPVP is supposed to be about.

SPVP is supposed to be about objectives and smart play as well as killing when it needs to be done.

please reward bunkers and support players as much as high burst glass cannons.

i was talking about karma per time spent…or effort put forth its alot easier to get small amount of karma very fast then a larger amount for a longer and more difficult time. either way this seems like a cheesy way to gear out alts

not really a zerg per se about 8 of us and half the time we all were ADD and running around different directions but yeah it doesnt feel that over powered mean it still takes a bit to kill some of these big baddies and the regular trash stuff doesnt drop in miliseconds but id does die fast but that is probably because it was a decent size group not because we have some overpowered gear. hehe and yeah gotta eat your veggies:)

this seems to be something of a personal issue not a game wide issue. the other day i had our lowest level guildy pick a map where they were leveling and we had an entire guild group run through and play along with them, i didnt feel over powered in these zones except the rare instances where i was actually 2 lvls above the area…but it seemed fine to me .

also i believe this is a nasty habit of some gamers to look at the carrot and not the grass everywhere around them which is just as healthy and sometimes tastier…ok i lost a little on that analogy but what i am getting at is:

play for fun enjoy the content who cares about exotics and such who cares if it takes you till next decade, enjoy using your abilities to kill things. challenge yourself by trying to solo champions or trying to find new areas in maps you never went too. i see the carrot but i also see the grass and ill get the carrot eventually maybe even by accident while i am gobbling up all this tasty grass.

this seems like a weak idea, this does not sound like it would be fun at all so a person who plays an alt to say ten deletes it and does it again which to me seemed like the fastest karma gain would not make things very fun …add that on top of the ease at which you can bot at the low level areas and then you would have an INCREASE in low level botting and a decrease in high level players actually doing high level content…

this should not happen and should not be supported

i dont notice this happening maybe a tech issue or a driver issue, i seem to have no issue at all rendering everything, now people killing things as fast as they spawn that is a problem and the scaling needs to be increased in some events for sure, as i am sure this is how they get bugged in the first place

I know that condition damage directly increases the damage of bleeds burns and poisons. I also know that condition duration affects how long they last as well as how long chills stuns confuses etc. last as well. what i am wondering and what i am struggling with is how to balance the two. for example: x bleed does 80 pts of damage per tick for 5 ticks, if i up my condition damage it will jump to 100 pts of damage. if i instead up the duration will it then add another tick or more ticks in general?

so if i get 5 ticks of 80=400 5 ticks of 100 is obviously better equaling 500 but if i can stack my duration to get 2 extra ticks then 7 ticks of 80 is more than 5 ticks of 100: 560>500

what are people genearlly doing? are they going for more bursty conditions or longer conditions for more damage overall?

perhaps longer duration is more for pve and higher condition damage is for pvp…any ideas or thoughts would be welcome.

also if you have a condition damage build as well as other conditions such as confuse does condition damage(the stat) increase the damage per attack the opponent uses or does it not apply(making condition duration more appealing fora confuse based build.

again any thoughts or ideas would be welcome!

are you guys serious, a game with dodge mechanics and swiftness, this game was built for getting into trouble and getting the heck out of it, its part of the fun its what makes me enjoyi it so much is the randomness of it all. i am going to take the extreme on this and say please train more often, this is not some sort of faux internet etiqutte failure this is someone is running away or going from point a to b. this is not a me first thing this is a oh crap im about to die im outta here thing…

is this really that hurtful? its like watching the train coming and a guy screaming his head off running in front of it and you just stand there…you could always attack the mobs he is running from to help that player out if you just stand there while i run by and that to me is the bigger problem than the training it self…if you stand there and get killed that means you didnt try and help or you didnt try and run either… you talk about this being all about selfishness on the part of the “train-er” but i feel its selfish for you to rage at your screen while i am getting chased by 20 mobs and you just stand there mining your orichalcum.

and to be honest when viewed from my perspective its almost justice or karma that you get caught up with the returning mobs, you could have helped but you couldnt be bothered and now that train is rolling back and you get hit by it wondering who can help you.

So no, I don’t have a crystal ball nor am I psychic. I trusted the company so many people “vouched” for, based on GW1 experiences. And it’s the last time I bought a game straight upon release. I should know better to wait for reviews and try the game myself first.

i feel sorry for you that you do not feel that any of the features you listed in gw2 are good, i personally feel the DE are amazing and i love the pvp(barring class imbalances) i have never been a huge dungeon fan but the dungeons here are enough to make me want to go back and do them over again which no other game has been able to do including WoW which was supposedly the best for dungeon crawling. so in my opinion this game has completely lived up to what it claimed you just dont like it!

i feel we need more underwater maps imho i am not trolling at all either i feel that more underwater combat will perhaps show you guys what you are doing wrong… underwater combat is diferent , but classes such as guardians and thieves have disadvantages down there.

jsut because you dont understand 3rd dimension fighting or maybe you havent read and understand your abilities underwater or maybe they dont coincide with your current fotm build, but i feel that this is truly a get used to it situation, i did and its fun as hell

hundred blades is the most obvious ability and easy to avoid, and aside from that if you dont carry a stun break or condition removal you are really doing it wrong backstab is the really annoying op ability at least you can avoid hundred blades

heartseeker isnt the problem ability although it does hit pretty hard, its the Backstab spec that is the insane damage ability if specd properly heartseeker is no different than hundred blades easily avoidable…backstab is not avoidable its from stealth and can 1 shot anyone with less than 15k hp and 2 shot anyone with less than 20k …that is broken, imbalanced and has no counter. the only redeeming factor is that it is positional …but for anyone that has any basic concepts of positioning this is a one swing kill

so if a class can hit you with one ability one time for 15k plus how is that remotely a reflection of my skill, even with perma vigor that person is going to hit me from stealth since i cannot dodge constantly, i cannot make sure i am not hitting anyone else and even if i use a ground targeted AOE/trap that goes off when he approaches he is still in stealth for along enough to use that one ability which will probably also immobilize me i can pop a cc break /condition removal which will remove the immobilze/poison then its on cd. and he is already in stealth again, my aoe is on cd so i cnat figure out where he is again, also my break is on cd. so unless i just run away with my tail between my legs(even then it may not work) i cannot counter one shot killing power.

its not like 100 blades or pistol whip where its 10 shots equal 12k.i cna dodge those its one ability that is 15k+ on ability with one swing. that is a broken ability with a broken build that is OP. there is no way you can argue that doing that much damage with one ability that you cannot dodge is not over powered or broken. most of what has been discussed here i have agreed with but:

it is well recorded that this can happen.
the most hp i have ever seen on a class its 28k this is definitely not common the average hp is between 18k and 21k

people will argue that this is fair this is balanced, thieves are very glass cannon …but i have yet to find an ability on my ranger when specd for glass cannon build that with one button press one shot from a bow or sword can i do that much damage even though i have the exact same survivability.

personally when i first was learning to play the game i didnt like this map either but after a few matches and i actually learned my underwater abilities i found that its actually the most important node in the map and its not that hard to take.
the sharks are easy as hell to kill they are minor annoyances at best.
honestly even with a defender it becomes alot more balanced if you push or lure the defender off of the node while your friend comes in behind and neutralizes the node now both sides have sharks to deal with.

this map is one of my favorites because it encourages point defense as opposed to the other maps which encourages zerg fighting.

in fact my issue with the hotjoin matches is that they do not encourage point defense since they can have more than a 5v5 battle. hence zerging becomes the most important thing.

this is why stealth mechanics shouldnt ever be in game, they arent fun…people cant accept being beaten by them and then they get nerfed to unplayability so imho just remove stealth classes and mechanics from all games especially mmos

i disagree completely and i am not sure where you are getting your information from, Ranger is actually very commonly played and i see them all the time in Spvp but i guess since you are making global statements like these you probably didnt understand the ranger class as well as basic argument tactics. i am level 80 now and still love the mechanics and abilities of the class and in Spvp i find that while thieves and mesmers can eat me up one v one i can hold my own and win most of the time against anyone as long as i dont make mistakes

i have noticed this issue with my fern dog sometimes although not as often as with my other pets i also have noticed that sometimes the f2 ability will cause the pet to attack my target even if its is only a fury buff or might buff… other times its as if the pet wont use the ability unless they are actually in combat… another thing i would like to see is IF the abilities have to be used while in combat then the aoe buffs need an increase in range so when i am 1200 away from the target i can actually get some use out of the buffs not just the pet and a few melee guys that are on the boss/player

ill be 80 today and call me slow or whatever but it took me about 20 levels to figure out pet swapping is a key ingredient to the ranger class as important as swapping attunements is to elementalist or warriors using the f1 ability…rangers are meant to swap pets during combat sometimes every 20 seconds on coooldown…i use a moa and a fern dog right now and the only time i have issues with them dying to quickly is before i react to swap them or the cd is down (20sec) is the super omg champion world bosses, and i am pretty sure that is probably intended. and even when i am killing 5-6 enemies at a time i do not ever have a time when my pet is dead(with the exception of the aforementioned omgwtf champion world bosses)

the change here has gone un-noticed for me …
