I didn’t say anything about letting anything slide. Objective opinions are encouraged but do you ever read your own posts? You use words like angry, deceit, and drop f bombs like they’re going out of style. This is a video game…gain some perspective. As soon as anger becomes part of the equation you might want to re-think your choice of hobbies.

Please point out anywhere, just once where i dropped the “f bomb”…even just once will do.

Also if someone says something, or this case markets a product a certain way, then actually produces a different product after you’ve paid for it…that is deceit, and yes im a touch angry about it…failing to see your point, did you have one ?

Q……Anet lied, or at the very best totally misled its customers…does Anet plan on continuing down this path of deceit, or can we expect some integrity from Anet in the future ?

Oh this is especially adorable – you tried to load your question, so cute – almost like a real trap…

What do you expect – a public and streamed confession of deceipt followed up by a ritual sword dive, or for them to just ignore your asanine and unproductive question?

No, how about one of them justs mans up and says “we know what we said in the manifesto, and how we marketed the game…but that was untenable and we couldn’t see much future in it…sorry guys but this is the new direction of the game and we hope you stick with us”.

Anything would be better than silence, or more ambiguous PR nonsense.

Respect is earned, not given…they completely misled their customers, and their apparent lack of concern over players real concerns isnt helping….they deserve neither my respect nor my money.

Dude, everything will be okay. This is a game…no one is dying…seriously. Half of your posts could fit in with day time soaps. It’s cool to note gameplay issues but it might be good to go grab a beer and relax a bit.

Id prefer the game and Anet to sort their kitten out and actually survive beyond next year….they should know how players are affected and their opinion of them, thats how changes get made…im pretty angry at getting sold a false promise…but yea, thats take your advice and sit back and relax and just let it slide…lets see how far that gets us.

Well , thats what you get by going dor the most expensive item first . Why didn’t you start on the easy stuff and by the time you would be done , it was cheaper .

Like in any other rare item , the more it drops over time the cheaper it gets . So it’s kibda your fault to have spent that amount in the first place .

Also people complaining about the precursor drops have to keep in mind that hundreds of players were at the event , and on the overflow i was in i didn’t saw more than 5/6 being pinged .

5 or 6 is hardly a “giveaway” as some of you state. And even if it the chance was higher than this , thats not your issue , the real problem is that some couldn’t attend an event that had a scheduled time . I woul like to remind that it’s impossible to have every player on at the same time .

The problem here is envy , nothing else . If you want you can go for Jormag , the chest also drops precirsors and happens every 3 hours or so .

What a ridiculous load of nonsense…so you are saying its the players fault for playing the game how they wanted, which was how the game was marketed, and then have the rug pulled out from under them, and its still the players fault ?

Even worse you stupidly accuse everyone whos rightfully angry of envy, when most of the worst affected players are the ones who actually earned them…personally i dont care, i have no interest in skins…but what i do care about is ridiculous outside market manipulation by developers at the drop of a hat and with little to no warning for players.

Precursor prices continue rising and players implore Anet to do something about it. When Anet does something about it players complain Anet is cheapening Precursors.

I realise it’s not necessarily the same group of people making those complaints, but I hope you see my point: Anet cannot please everybody.

The fact of the matter is, Precursor prices had to be brought down: if they continue to rise they will only become more and more unreachable by new players, a group that will continue to increase throughout the game’s life. It is much wiser to do something now instead of say a year later, when much more players have been frustrated by the ever-increasing price of Precursors.

While I can understand why you’re upset, it is for the greater good.

The fact is that Anet screwed up again in spectacular fashion…..you do NOT go handing out expensive rare items like that…you increase the drop rate for the materials to craft one, or decrease the needed materials to craft one……seriously pretty much everything Anet is doing lately is straight out of the MMO guide of “how to kill your game quickly”.

So what we can take from the OP is that hes just extremely selfish…and as long as he gets to have fun, screw anyone else….tell you what, lets keep the one time events and make them so they only appear at 3.00am Monday morning for you, ok ?
They will not rotate time slots, they will happen only when devs are available to monitor them, that is why they are a bad idea, the same people are gonna get shafted time and time again.

As i said in another thread, one time events are ancient nonsense that other MMO’s gave up ages ago because all they do is divide the community…who wants to be part of a game that actively excludes you from content just on the basis of where you live.

I am not saying that it is not in some case broken, I did say that it MIGHT not be broken.

Indeed, and every other MMO tend to have huge amount of spamming about gold-selling and other silly things in their big areas.
I for one prefer this “old” method.

I dont know what MMO’s you’re playing ,but the 5 or 6 that i play regularly have a report button and they are banned almost immediately……even FTP games like LOTRO and DDO dont have gold spammers any more.

Why fix something that might not be broken?

Sure, it is quite annoying to be effected by the system, but I would rather have that then seeing constant spamming about gold-selling and such.

Seriously, are you even playing the same game ?

I linked a waypoint in map chat for an event, then said SE of waypoint, someone asked what SE was…i tried to respond found found myself chat banned……meanwhile yesterday in Lions Arch the same gold spammer somehow manged to spam his advert for gold sales every few seconds for at least the 30 or 40 minutes that i was there, multiple people said they had reported a while ago, i reported him myself…he continued.

Message suppressing is the most backward, last decade nonsense i have ever seen, i really am astounded by Anet who profess to have created an innovative game, yet have mechanics that every other MMO gave up years ago….it would be hilarious if it wasnt so pathetic.

Anet has done an about-face after abandoning “the manifesto” and blatantly lying to its customers, introduced the first stages of its gear-treadmill, they have already confirmed that more is on its way.

They have also done a great job of segregating large portions of the player base with silly archaic one time events which punish players for not turning up at 3.00am on a Monday….and heavily rewarding those players lucky enough to live in a time zone compatible with the event.

Most players are now locked into Lions Arch spamming LFG FoTM lvl1 over and over in map chat, while older content is now irrelevant except for “the fun factor”.

Oh, they have also introduced DR, which means diminishing returns…which in essence means the more you play the less you get rewarded…basically the more you work for the things you want in the game, the less likely you are to get them.

Have fun….

You dev alts should stop posting these threads, you’re just embarrassing yourselves now.

No, the only truly embarrassing thing in this thread is that you actually believe that the only people who liked this weekend event are the devs, and that they’re creating alts purely to fight back against your perceived “threat”.

Let’s get real for a moment, if indeed you are right and the vast majority of people hated this event, why would ANet bother making fake accounts to water down the negative feedback? The only rational choices that a dev team would make are:

1) Acknowledge the vastly negative feedback and improve for next time.
2) Ignore it and continue on your current path, refusing to admit fault.

To create fake accounts just to water down public dissention requires time and effort that any sane dev team would never invest. If they’re as evil as you want to imply, then why bother watering down public opinion when they can just ignore it? Saves time and money that way.

Honestly, folks like yourself should just take a break from the game. And maybe grow up a little, too. It’s a game, you really need to relax and express yourself a bit more calmly.

Its was just in jest, and more directed at the moronic fanboi who yesterday accused WoW developers of starting alts and coming here to post negativity on the forums to discredit GW2.

Its more than just clothes…they need a proper wardrobe re-design, like LOTRO has…who the hell wants to buy clothes for one outfit that cant be changed and is lost if you upgrade your armour/clothes…….Turbine tried that with DDO and it was a massive failure.

With the wardrobe you get 3 or 4 free slots per character, 20 account wide slots for clothing, extra space for both character and account can be bought from the gem store.
Honestly, why havent you Anet guys done your own research and why dont you have this done already……clothing options are the biggest sellers behind actual content in MMO’s……its blindly obvious that behind the pretty graphics you havent put much effort into this game at all.

Robbyx.1284

What you are talking about is “the vocal minority”…which has been proven time and time again to be false.
Just recently EVE onlines producers CCP very nearly paid the price for assuming the vocal minority was just that, a minority.
After ignoring the “whining” on the forums and stating they believed that the vocal minority didnt speak for the majority of players, they pushed ahead with their plans….almost over night they lost a reported 20%-25%, with some speculating that the numbers were much higher, the numbers of canceled subscriptions grew throughout the week…so much so that CCP were forced to make a very public and humble apology, they also threw out all the work they had done and completely changed the direction of the game, this was greeted with a surge of re-subscriptions almost immediately…this is a multi-million dollar company that almost over night went bust by assuming the vocal minority on the forums didnt speak for the majority, they do.
The point is that you ignore the vocal minority at your peril, you can bet that they do speak for a very sizeable portion of your player base.

The people that picked up the game blindly without researching it at all want gear progression. Whatever will tide them over until the next WoW patch or FF14 or whatever comes out next.

The GW1 fans and the crowd of people that don’t want to play another version of WoW (people who have been following the game for years) did not want this. And we would have been way more vocal earlier if we had -any- reason to expect that this could possibly get dropped on us out of the blue.

Wrong !!!! nobody specifically said they wanted a gear grind, they just wanted something meaningful to do once they reached level cap, instead of farming plinx over and over……and Anet in its panicked, unimaginative state, and all the while hemorrhaging players, decided what we have now was the answer.

You are also wrong about GW1 players, they were some of the most vocal looking for change…they largely felt that in GW1 you could happily play at any level and still be doing something meaningful, unlike GW2…..its just that Anets answer was way of the mark.

Please stop with your silly “WoW” generalisation, it just makes you look silly and uninformed….most players came here from WoW, rift, DDO, LOTRO, LoL etc because they were looking for what Anet promised…and failed to deliver.

DDO (dungeons and dragons online) FTP, Its all about PVE, no pvp except minor tavern brawls….extremely gear based, but in a good way, has one of the best chat and LFM systems there is…dungeons range from easy casual, to mentally hard requiring extreme teamwork, but with the LFM system is really not hard to get a group for any quest you want.
A great game for hardcore MMO’ers and gear grinders, with the TR (true resurrection) system you can play the same character for years and never “max” it out.

LOTRO (lord of the rings online) FTP, Simply an amazing world, massive in size with some zones boasting 200-300 quests…also has the epic story line quests which follow the actual fellowship, met Frodo etc.
Has the best cosmetics system of any game, legendary system is just awesome and works very well, crafting system is perfectly balanced with all professions worthwhile and beneficial to players.
Just an amazing game, stunning scenery, amazing music…i have leveled 5 characters to cap and still not seen and done everything in the game…very good community, very helpful players…..it does have pvp limited t oone zone, but gives you the chance to fight for the free peoples or the bad guys, orcs, wargs etc.

EVE online , subscription only…..Simply the king cheese of MMO’s…they do not come any bigger or better…it is a cold, hard brutal universe, with stealing, scamming and griefing all being legitimate career paths, you just have to be smart enough not to get suckered.
It is the thinking persons MMO, it boasts the biggest pvp battles of all time, personally i took part in a fight that lasted just over a week and involved more than 5,000 people.
PVP drives this game, but you can become rich and famous without ever firing a shot, industry, exploration, market manipulation are just as important as pvp as everything is made and destroyed by the players themselves.

EVE is a very tough game, it has the steepest learning curve of any game, ever, without a doubt, it will frustrate you and sometimes kick your butt, but you will never be more rewarded for hard work and determination as you will in EVE.

Just a few of the other MMO’s i play, feel free to ask questions…

Well this is what you get once you start catering to the WoW babies.
I guess its time for a server merge. Which wouldnt be a bad thing considering sharding the servers into worlds was a stupid idea to begin with anyway.

Stupid generalization is stupid….it has nothing to do with “WoW babies” at all…it has everything to do with developers who have been out of the loop for to long, have no idea how to implement end game while catering to casual players at the same time, which by the way is happening in other games as we speak….it has everything to do with forcing through untested, unasked for game changing mechanics which simply do not work…it has everything to do with not asking your player base what they actually want.
Players simply stated they wanted something to do once they reached level cap, which is fair enough…..Anets response was just….bad.

Constantly imply this game is free?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Robbyx.1284

Subscription fees are (hopefully) going the way of the dinosaur and that’s how it should be imo.

I sincerely hope not….EVE online is simply the best MMO out there…largely due to its subscription only format…it has constant maintenance, constant free expansions, constant customer care, its monitored 24 hours a day, it is free of hackers, its graphics are updated to keep up with modern standards….the threat of canceled subscriptions keep the game fresh and the developers ever vigilant for the needs of its player base.

BTP is a bane for online players…once you buy you have little say, they already have your money and can laugh at you as you threaten whatever you want, what do they care, they already have your money…..this is plainly evidenced by Anets horrendous communication “skills”, or lack there of.

FTP at least gives you the option of trying before you buy or subscribe…its a win/win for players.

I seriously doubt i will ever go BTP again….Anet has simply put me of that option…the customer has no recourse at all, that is never good.

As an older more mature player I’m writing this letter to Anet on behalf of the majority.

With all the news of recent patches and new content there has been a bit of whining and complaining, mostly because you swore the recent changes you implemented would never happen in this game…you lied.
Usually i have a decent amount of respect and loyalty for a game and its company, even small, struggling games…but with Anet this isnt happening, in fact i wouldnt care one bit if Anet and this game went bust tomorrow, i wouldnt laugh, i wouldnt cry, i wouldnt even give you a second thought, you could pass into oblivion and i wouldnt even raise an eyebrow.
Lots of things can be forgiven, hell i still play LOTRO after 5 years, even though i despise Turbine as a company, but lying to your customers cannot be forgiven, ever.
You swore, you even had it in your manifesto that the gear grind/power creep would not be in this game, ever….but here it is.

Im sure the legions of rabid fanbois will forgive you as they level yet another alt to 80 in your mostly shallow, vapid and horrendously over repeated world, on their way to a non existent end game while still being dazzled by the shinies…but those of us with actual MMO experience have seen this before, and know where it is headed, and its not good.

In the mean time ill play, while it still amuses me, but i will NEVER buy anything from your store, i will tell anyone who listens that this game is not worth a purchase…..i will however watch with anticipation and hope any future MMO’s take a lesson from GW2 on how to have a great idea, then crap all over it.

Thanks for listening….signed, an indifferent customer.

To be fair, GW2 was supposed to be ‘that MMO for people who don’t play MMO’s.’. I never thought I would enjoy GW2, so the fact that I did enjoy it was kind of a miracle. I came in expecting the game to be fully catered to casuals, and found a surprising amount of depth by modern mmo standards…at least at first glance.

Now I’m at endgame, I’m realising it’s not quite as deep or rewarding as I initially thought, but it still has some very interesting and well-implimented ideas, and I think it deserves praise for that.

Now if only the developers would actually communicate with the playerbase and explain their decisions more in-depth, that would help things greatly. It’s like they’re afraid that the casuals will be upset or intimidated if they try to talk about their game design and balance in any depth beyond vague outlines.

This has been my experience as well…except i really didnt like the game at first, the lack of depth in the skills etc really put me of the game…but then i left behind all pretense of staying with GW2 and having any loyalty with the game, and just started enjoying it for what it is, a simple no frills bit of fun with some shiny graphics…im having a lot more fun after coming to that realisation to be honest.

I would advise other to just “let it go” and dont expect much, just play it for fun while it lasts, go back to other games for “real” MMO action and enjoy GW2 for casual fun times…you’ll enjoy it a lot more.

This must be the first MMO you’ve ever played…this game, while mildly entertaining is far from the best at anything to be honest, no matter which way you look at it, there is nothing this game does better than any other MMO.

I think world venturing is superior to any other mmo I’ve played. The way they move you along, how they present it, how people can come together and get fair credit for a goal imo does make a real difference. I do look forward to 100% map completion. Typically I don’t like mmo world venturing, generic as can be, so it was how immersive and fun their instances were and those games are rare to. There isn’t that many good mmo’s out there imo. GW2 open world is way ahead of anything else, spawn rates really the only real nit-pick I have.

Give me GW2 Open World and DDO’s Instances and you have the giant killer everyone has talked about like the 80’s Great White Hope.

LOTRO’s world exploration is far superior in my opinion, i have never had such a sense of being alone and in danger as i have in LOTRO, GW2 feels cramped and forced compared to it….DDO’s skills, spells and character customization are second to none in my opinion.

Give me GW2s open world events, LOTRO’s world map size and exploration with DDO’s skills, spells and character customization and you would have the top fantasy MMO on the market.

This game is unbelievable...

Hats off to Arenanet for creating the best MMO to date, the forums can sometimes be negative and grumpy but that does not reflect the opinion on the majority of the playerbase, most gamers are too busy enjoying their time playing the game instead of posting, so naturally angsty players are more vocal.

Excelsior

This must be the first MMO you’ve ever played…this game, while mildly entertaining is far from the best at anything to be honest, no matter which way you look at it, there is nothing this game does better than any other MMO.

The crafting system is appallingly bad, the cosmetics are horrendous, the playable end game is non existent for anyone other than very casual players.

While Anet should be congratulated for trying something new, they seem to have steered clear of time tested MMO mechanics just because someone else already did it and it would ruin their “innovation”.

One of my guildies, who has left the game by the way, along with the 25-30 other players in my guild put it best…“this game is the kindergarten of MMO’s”.

I belong to many, many forums, and i understand the need to moderate forums, really i do, but i have to say the over moderation on these forums is appalling.

My very first post was to tell a guy who ranted about his dislike of the game that his thread would most likely get deleted, i was given an infraction for being off-topic…and the thread deleted.
Then a guy had a legitimate question about how to pay for the game without a credit card…there were 5 very helpful replies, no flaming, no one off-topic…the thread was locked.
Now i see many other threads with players questions or concerns are being deleted or locked….most of us here are adults and we do not need to be babysat or treated like children…forums are for discussions, even if some of them are mildly ranting…it should all be useful, free feedback for developers.

I would suggest you get someone who has experience moderating gaming forums and teach the current mods to ease up a bit….we need moderators, not forum police…thanks.

1…Horrible customisation, look at LOTRO to see how it should be done, and that game is over 5 years old.

2…Crafting system is seriously one of the worst i have ever seen in a MMO.

3…End game…if you are not interested in grinding for pointless skins then you have little if anything to do.

4…LFG…this game has the worst grouping mechanics of any MMO out there.

The problem is that in an effort to be “innovative”, Anet has compromised playability and long term survivability.
They seem to have steered away from things that work just because some other MMO already did it…well im sorry Anet, you are not all that innovative, you just removed the need to pick up quests is all…“dynamic” events are just soft quests, they even have the “million HP boss beat down”, which most other MMO’s are trying to steer clear of because its old and has been done to death.

If you had taken the best from other MMO’s instead of staying away from everything that made them popular, you might have had a winner
