I’m taking 20k damage from 2 attacks; because thieves are such an unbalanced class that hundreds of thousands of players have quit pvp, and quit gw2 in general.
A lot of those counter play options don’t come into effect if your character is out of combat. A thief can kill you before your client can register it is in combat. I wish this where not the case, but it has happened to me enough times, that I’m done with all of it.

I couldn’t agree with you more Cover girl.
It only took 3 responses but I knew it was coming. Someone trying to blame all the problems with the thief that everyone keeps writing about day after day, on one person and their armor, and or trait set up. It never fails.
No! I’m not ever playing wow again, both games suck.
I was really hoping to love this game. I bought into all the hype about how much better than WoW it is.
After reaching level 80 I found that in GW2 you have almost no content left, despite buying into the idea that the whole world is end game. We all know that just isn’t true, the rewards are almost worthless from lower level zones, and that is why they are abandoned.
It took only 3 months for nearly half your player base to decide to quit. Look at the roster in your guild, see how many people are inactive?
When you do reach level 80 you can farm the events in cursed shore or you can go to wvw, or fotm. The cursed shore is only one zone though, that is right 1 zone for all the level 80 players.
Fotm is one of the most poorly designed dungeons I have ever seen in any mmorpg. The fact that group members who get DCed can’t resume with the group, and the group is forced to leave the dungeon to look for a new member is just sad. The way you set it up with multiple difficulty scales like that is horrible. You have one guy standing next to another guy, one is shouting LFM fotm lvl 8, the other guy is shouting LFM fotm lvl 7. Its just mind boggling how poorly this dungeon was implemented.
Then in WvW you have the thief. I hate WvW now. The thief can hit for 8k with steal, and then for 13k with back stab. That is two instant moves, that the thief is stealth for, two moves that take about 1 second to execute. Just two attacks and your health bar is gone. It looks like your heath bar just vanishes instantly in one second, you where not even being attacked. Then you see another one of those ugly midgets the asura behind you. Well that is it for me, Stitch is not instant killing me anymore. What is so lame about it is, I have a few traits set up to prevent this from happening. Such as an elixir that is supposed to trigger at 25% hp and make me invulnerable for 3 seconds, or a trait that gives my character 5 seconds of retaliation after receiving a critical shot, or 3 seconds of protection after being disabled, stuned etc. To bad that with just two attacks it doesn’t even give the game time to register you are in combat, thus your automatic defense traits never trigger.
What really drives the nail further in the coffin are the holiday events. Its like A net said well rather than make real content. Rather than creating more areas for level 80 players. We would rather base the content on what you can buy in the gem shop. Lets just have something you can play for a few days, who really cares it only takes a couple days to get people’s money anyway. Then after those few days we want the content to just sit there. Those few days when new content is available are often so laggy and buggy, that its not even worth trying to play through an event, or dungeon you know will be bugged.

These forums are a hard place to visit. I’m so very glad they do exist though, so you are all not out in the real world where you might do some real damage to other people. Its good that there is a place to contain people like you.
Good bye.
backpedaling is this:
topic title: “this is unfair”. no indication of joking in first post
later in topic after everyone calls him out: “oh it was just a joke”
Called the guy out? Considering that I wrote the analogy I have the right to call it a joke. In WvW though it is not a joke, and thousands more players will quite, because of stealth.
These forums are like a bunch of kids in a locker room they don’t care who fights they just want someone to fight about anything.
Looks like I looked up the wrong definition for a word. I know this is what you guys live for, to be right about anything regardless of how mundane it is.
“Lets just imagine this hypothetical situation.” Its right there at the top, no back pedaling involved.
(edited by Ron.4920)
Its not an Argument Rottaran, I clearly stated its a hypothetical situation. More of a joke really, some people get it, some people don’t.
Don’t label me as a troll okay. You will be sitting here long after I am.
Well you probably shouldn’t haven’t started it then Zilm. Don’t be the victim.
Loading, It is a boxing match so both fighters are in the same weight class, and around the same skill.
Sorry Kurow, but the deconstruction argument style is not one I enjoy engaging in.
(edited by Ron.4920)
In every video game where invisibility is involved, the invisible player will have an unfair advantage.
Lets just imagine this hypothetical situation. You are pretty low on money at the moment, and you have to gamble to make ends meet. There is a gym right near where you live that has boxing matches on the weekends. There is a guy who sits at a table in the back room, you can place bets with him. You go up to place your very first bet, it is your last few dollars. You know nothing about either fighters at the moment, so you say to the bookie. Can you tell me about the fighters? The bookie says well one of the fighters is invisible. Which do you choose the visible fighter, or the invisible one?
People do not like being jumped by invisible players who are capable of burning down their health bars in less than 5 seconds even with 2k toughness and 20k hp. What is so horrible about those 5 seconds is it is possible to be stun locked the entire time, even with stun break/condition removal utilities. Invisibility has been a broken mechanic ever since some lazy developer said “hey I don’t have to actually make the sprites, I can just say this monster is invisible”.
World versus world was cool at one time. Now though it is just the same servers week after week.
Yak’s bend keeps recruiting more people, even though they have a big enough lead already. All they do with those extra numbers is camp the portal spawns with siege, and type /dance, or /laugh. Really fun matchs, its so fun to be killed and made fun of at the same time, and it really makes you want to keep coming back for more. Half the players in any given match take it very seriously. The other half don’t say anything for fear of a serious WvWer bashing them.
Yak’s bend has pretty much ruined this tier for the last 2 weeks, with their 24 hour zerg, and their relentless night capping. I just can’t believe the game would allow 30 people to siege a base of 5 in the middle of the night. But GW2 does; which is probably why myself and many many others have decided to simply log out.
The WvW matches now feel like the matches in wow, where the other team has your team pinned in your graveyard. Except in WvW the match is like this 24/7 and it never restarts. No one on your team can leave this small confined area, anyone who tries to venture out is immediately mobbed by half a dozen rival team members. How exactly can the previous sentence be considered a fun time in a video game? Because that is what Arena net has turned the matchs in this tier into.
WvW was a great concept to bad though the developers overlooked something as simple as having one team out number another team. I mean you take any given sport any one, and does one team ever out number the other team? No it never happens. Why do you think that is?

It is funny how almost non of the sigils actually work with kits, and they nerfed the damage of the grenade kit, and said it was because of sigils.
“Real question is, why are you so determined to kill the thieves?”
Answer: Because the only reason you are seeing that thief in the first place is he/she stealthed in on you, back stabbed you, and was trying to kill you. Now you want him to go away. You know that if he/she just stealths and runs away, he/she will be back in 1 minute. If you manage to kill him/her, he/she won’t come back to stalk you for at least 5 minutes. And after the thief has been killed by a particular player it will probably look for easier prey.
The first thing I would like to say is, WvW is not a war. It may be a video game designed to have a medieval war between different servers built into it, but that still does not make it a war. If WvW were a war, then the loosing side would be completely assimilated by means of law. The winners would completely loot the homesteads and businesses of the loosing side. New leaders on the loosing side would be elected. Leaders put in place to keep the peace, so to speak. The loosing countries would have to be rebuilt for decades. In wvw when a match is over everyone just goes to Lion’s arch and chit chats for 5 minutes while the match resets for the next week.
“The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” Spock. When the bots were around you took the dolyak escort reward away. You also took the reward for defending a camp/tower/keep/ or castle that is not under siege away. Now on 12/12/2012 you said that you are finding less than 20 bot accounts each month. Still though the rewards for doing these two very important tasks in wvw are still gone.
The only reward that players receive in wvw is the jumping puzzle, zerging camps/towers/keeps/castles, killing enemy invading or defending players, and occupying enemy sentry points. This reward system is the biggest determinant in how wvw matchs are played.
You see players zerg a base, then just walk away from it. The other team zergs it back, and then our team zergs it back. Its all for the 4 silver after you kill the tower champion. You never really see people defend a base, unless the base’s defenders have enough siege, and enough man power to hold off the enemy zerg. This is because the only way you will see a reward from defending a base is to kill enemy players, or for the reward timer to count down to 0. If the defenders don’t have the man power they just warp back to the spawn point. That way hopefully in an hour they can zerg it back for the 4 silver from the tower champion.
Since the only way to see loot in wvw is to kill enemy players, enemy npcs, and or the jumping puzzle. You find a lot of players in front of stone mist castle, they are essentially camping the spawn points for the enemie’s castle guards.
The reward system could really encourage and teach players how to play in an effective way that helps your team. Right now though the reward system is rewarding players to gather up in front of a castle and camp enemy npc guards.
The current rewards for zerging a base could be increased. The rewards for defending a base that is not under siege could be reinstated. As well as the reward for escorting a dolyak. The reward for zerging bases may need an increase just incase to many people decide to defend, and matchs turn into zergless turtles.
The tactics of night capping are completely draining people’s desire to enter wvw. Especially when you have the same servers week after week night capping maps to a single color every single night. Basically night capping comes about because a bunch of people from different parts of the world choose a U.S. server. Most of them say the same thing when asked, " U.S. servers have better latency". For this better latency these people are willing to basically live in exile, until they find a few more people that also choose to do the same thing for this better latency. A dozen or so of these players get together, and just run over empty uncontested maps at night. Because of night capping you see a lot of bases not being upgraded. That is a whole huge game mechanic that is not being used by the loosing side; because they know it will be gone in less than an hour, or when they go to sleep that night.
To stop night capping, and to keep the thousands of players that will no doubt quit because of it. Here are two possible fixes to night capping. You could restrict players to their own region. It would mean a few hundred players from each server would have to transfer, but it would also mean night capping would be mostly solved. Another possible fix could be to allow npc guards to use siege. If you could make it to where the guard has to be standing next to the siege to use it, and if the guard dies the siege most stop working it might also help to fix this night capping problem.
The strange thing about night capping is, it seems that if the reward structure that was mentioned above were tweaked it could also reduce the impact of night capping. If half of the night team was not standing in front of SM camping npc spawn points then there might be less of a chance that there bases will be night capped. Those players will not leave those spawn points in front of SM until they have a better reward for defending bases that are not under siege.

Nourishment(2 m): +10% damage vs undead
-10% damage from undead
+10 Experience from kills
The duration is supposed to read (2 h). When consuming a potion the duration of the buff has also been reduced. They last for one hour, pretty sure last patch they where lasting for 2 hours.
There could be a problem with all the extended potions of slaying, but I only checked this one.
Double-click to consume.
Nourishment (30m): Gain power [sic] equal to 6% of your toughness
Gain power [sic] equal to 4% of your vitality
+10 Experience from kills.
It actually gives you a bonus to precision instead of power. Hopefully this is just a typo and it is really meant to be precision. Since sharpening stones already grant the exact same bonus to power.
Everyone loves snipers they can’t find in video games.
So the TL;DR version is
Night capping is pointless because it makes the same things happen week after week?
I hate to break it to you but even if no one did night capping the same thing would happen: you’d be “wasting” silver just to have WvW repeat itself again and again.
No sir that is not what I was saying at all. We won’t be able to understand one another so I’m leaving it at that.
That would be awesome if that was true. It would make everything completely fair wouldn’t it?
So a month or so ago Arena net gave an official answer to night capping. Arena net said it was an effective strategy for war, and all is fair in war. Well guess what, its not a war its a video game.
Night capping is an effective strategy to get players to stop caring or playing in WvWvW. Regardless of what time zone you live in, if you spend gold/time on upgrades, and when you wake up the next morning you find that one server has come in and wiped all the maps to a single color. How many more times will you waste your money/time during that week to see the same results over and over? What happens if you’re against the same servers that night capped you all last week, will you then come in and play knowing it will turn out exactly the same as last week?
It is Saturday the servers were reset yesterday, you would expect there to be some serious representation for your server in WvWvW today. What you see though is a big turn out for the server in first place, the people on the other servers have either found other things to do, or have transferred to the winning server.
Please don’t try to say I’m causing this problem, or I’m just looking at it the wrong way, or its what you make of it. Scapegoating is not really an answer to anything.
I’m not going to argue with any of you, I’ll just ignore your post’s if you come off as a narcissistic animal waiting to hunt.

Its funny when people say their putting things into perspective, but really its just their own opinion nothing more. Its also funny when people say this isn’t a trolling post. Then they proceed to imply in every sentence that there most be no other reason for my post or any post about a similar matter beyond we are bad players, and everyone else needs to be nerfed for us to compete. It just gets old, its just the same teenage response over and over again. You people plague ever forum just waiting to pounce on anyone about anything, you believe that if you can point out that someone is wrong it will somehow prove that you are intelligent, even if no one is actually wrong at all. So many people in the world see intelligence like its a game of jeopardy, where if you know the right answer you win the prize, and you’re seen as smart. In order for one person to be right, often times that person most prove another to be wrong. Is there truly a right or wrong, and if there is why can’t you prove it beyond opinion? In school we are taught that the right answer is the smart one, and we are rewarded for the right answer. Think about it for awhile.
The Absolute worst thing about pvp in GW2 is no friendly fire. I know what your saying friendly fire is stupid it was phased out in the 90s. Yeah but if we had friendly fire in GW2 let me explain to you why it would better. First siege weapons would change dramatically, all the sudden everyone is dodging the incoming artillery, instead of one team just running around inside of it finishing off the other team, its just stupid and not realistic at all the way it is now. Ranged classes that get in a group together can focus fire anyone down in seconds. It would be great to get in the middle of a group of ranged players, and have their bullets actually hit their own team. I mean they are firing right through their teammates head, and yet it does no damage, it goes through their team mate’s head and hits me in the back, come on where is the dynamic combat we heard about? I’m seeing the same thing as any other online game, a ranged group gets together, then single targets people from a distance. Except in this game there are no diminishing returns, so the person is just trapped their to be killed without much of a chance to fight back. I think having friendly fire on would make a richer, deeper, and more realistic combat system. Something that I think can never be achieved with friendly fire turned off.

I would like to mention the warrior wielding the great sword, that use the frenzy stance followed by hundred blades. Have you ever had all of your stun break moves on cool down, and been hit with this combo? A warrior with this combination can almost kill anyone even from full health in 2 seconds if that move lands. If the person uses a stun breaker then dodges, the warrior can switch to axe then devastate, and it is almost always over. The devastate can even get the tail end of the quickness buff, making it much harder to dodge. About 15%-25% of the players play this class, and combination greatsword/ axe shield, or double axe. This is another class combo people are bottle necked into playing; because its just so much more effective compared to anything else you could spec into as a warrior. Yes my percentages are my own estimations.
(edited by Ron.4920)
You have a class that is able to push one button, and run away when they are about to die. Then they are able to hide behind a little bush while they spam unload for about 12k damage in 6 seconds. The other option is they wait and heal up, then stalk you and wait for you to engage another person. Then they hit swiftness and stealth then appear behind you and spam heart seeker. If you don’t have a stun break off cool down you’re dead. Considering you only have 3 utility skills to assign, some poor people don’t even have a stun break available. My build uses 2 stun breaks, one on a 24 sec cool down, and one on a 48 second cool down. So this is not me whining, and if this turns into one of those threads were people like to troll others, for whatever reason I’ll just delete it. Close to 25%-40% of the spvp players are playing this class, with this weapon spec combination.
(edited by Ron.4920)
I have seen these same problems many times in MMORPGS. The players are bottle necked into the classes, and spec combinations that can be competitive anything else is scrapped; because honestly it sucks being killed even once in a pvp match with that slow motion stomp. Who would want that to happen 10 or more times in a match? Just search for GW2 PVP on you tube and you will see people with noncompetitive specs that die nearly every fight. You take any given team in any spvp match, and each team will more than likely have at least two thieves in it. The combination of the stealth heal move on number 6, plus double daggers, for the heart seeker spam, plus the double pistols for the unload makes the thief a class that breaks the game. Mix those 3 together and what do you have?
