I would love to see the crying when an expansion comes (that allows us to level up to 90 for example), and that +15 bow that took millions to upgrade is now obsolete… Oh, and there would be crying. In epic proportions…

I still dislike he idea of the system. I still stick with the previous reasons as well that it is bad idea to give extra power to some people (that have more time or money), even if it’s a slight power upgrade.

I’m all for character advancement, just not in more powerful gear.

first of all, if you implement the upgrade system the way i proposed with 50% success rate and diminishing returns…

The odds of getting something to +15 is 0.003% chance.

The stats for going to +14 to + 15 would be less benefit then going from +13 to +14.

Catch my drift?

Your analogy of the game expansion going to level 90 with new weapons would make ALL CURRENT WEAPONS obsolete.

Your argument is invalid.

The whole point of playing an MMO is that you put a lot of time and effort into your character (to improve the character level and gear).

I don’t understand why all gear should be the same and everyone be exactly the same stats.

That would make the game more like a first-person shooter… like a Halo MMO, or Counter Strike MMO.

The more ability to customize our characters the better.

ArenaNet needs to get creative and strike a balance between skill and gear.

They had this in Mu Online…. it was an okay system… but this brings the game back to going after the gear. Guild Wars 2 is not and MMORPG about the GEAR it is about player SKILL. I want to play a game because I am good at PLAYING it, not because I am good at sitting there for hours on end getting the best gear and then going and upgrading it.

Everyone incorrectly keeps saying this game is about “skill” and not “gear”

Then why even have gear?

This game is about BOTH skill and gear.

ArenaNet needs to strike a balance between the two.

We should be able to upgrade our weapons, but make it a risky proposition with diminishing returns.

I like the idea of starting with 3 “lives”.

If you do a WvW Dynamic Event (such as defending a keep) and you earn a GOLD Medal… you also earn +1 “lives”

So the more active people get more “lives”.

I think this is a good compromise.

The only people that will get booted is players who don’t help and just keep dying over and over…

Personally though; I say set the cycle to 24 Hours. In WoW usually just before I log out for the night (or if me and my girl were bored since we had to suffer through long distance at times) I/we would go to my favourite city and just wonder about and enjoy the city at night for about 15-30 minutes.

A 24 Hour cycle adds a major and relaxing immersion factor that really turns a game world from just another virtual space, to a home away from home.

I totally agree with this. Unfortunately, most people don’t. I tested the water by suggesting this before, and got shot down by the majority, who complained they’d never see the day.

Never!

Well not snowfall in queensdale, lol. The weather would be for zones thats appropriate for them. So shiverpeaks would see snow queensdale more tornados and rain. Possibly lightning but like I said, hard to add something that just zaps players all around without being annoying.

Random weather is random bro.

Rounder.6703

Rounder,

I think it’s because ANet feels that to implement a proper night cycle would mean that they risk pissing off players who just want to rush though the game. Think about it for a moment. Currently, night mode is basically just eye candy. It really serves no real purpose.

NPC’s are out doing what they do, animals and birds go about their business, and the same creatures plaster the landscape at all times a day. This means that players never have to wait, nor do they have to deal with the environment.

It means that everything is available all the time. This is great for those who want to rush through the game, but disappointing for those who want a long lasting, immersive environment that creates depth and mood.

Personally, I have no issues at all waiting for night to fall so I can set out, torch I. Hand to hunt down creatures lumbering around in the dark. I have no problem diving into near pitch black waters, with only the glow of a waterproof lantern to illuminate my surroundings as I track down creatures that only come out at night.

I personally love the idea of feeling nervous about being caught in the dark where the undead or ghosts come out. And the thought of my guild, torches in hand, slowly navigating our way in the snow to a cave where a huge nocturnal troll lives to be super exciting.

This MMO has the potential to do such great things if the just take some chances.

Very well written my friend.

I hope ArenaNet sees your post and understands the possibility of immersion this game could offer.

Thanks.

Let the NPC’s go to bed. Let the lights and fire create depth an mood. Let the fuzzy animals go to bed and the creepy, night predators roam the landscape.

At the very least, have a day/night cycle that feels somewhat based in reality. Use that fancy game engine and throw some long shadows and some great sunset/sun rises in there.

I agree, why hasn’t ArenaNet done this?

The jumping puzzles that have pure darkness are awesome! I wish that type of gameplay can be transitioned to all PvE and PvP enviroments.

I would not allow it map-wide though. Sure, there are a few commanders now, but in a few months, there will be more and more, and even guilds with lots of influence, so it could become a major spam fest :S

So yes to big, visible messages from the commanders, but squad only.

Thats why i said Guild LEADERS only can be commanders, and their guild must have like 10+ people online at the time (in the current map).

This would mean only a few commanders at a time

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea.

Death means literally nothing in this game, both in PvE and PvP, this solution would at least makes it mean something in PvP.

It would mean WvW would be full of people who stay away from combat while the productive ones wait on the queue.

Wrong.

It would mean better players would stay in WvW

Weaker players who die more often will be will have 5 minute penalty and be back in the action before they know it

And what is wrong with the less experienced players being in WvW? Plus there is the non-fun factor. I still see more problems then it solves.

since when is dying fun?

why is it Anet’s responsibility to make everything fun… you even want dying to be fun?

seriously?

WE NEED TO SOLVE THE 1 HOUR QUEUE TIME.

I don’t care if someone gets their feelings hurt because they die and get booted from WvW.

We need to reduce the queue time, and my suggestion will do just that.

With my solution the queue time will be reduced to just a 2-3 minutes. With hundreds of people playing on a map the deaths are likely to happen quite often so the queue will be very short.

Intead getting your armor broken, you’ll get an effect that stacks with itself whenever you are defeated. It’ll go down every time you complete an event, repair structures, build siege weaponry, etc.
Get defeated too much without helping, and you get kicked out.

Thats a good idea. I like it.

- Remove repair costs.
- 5 deaths gets you booted for 5 minutes from WvW
- Go AFK for 5 minutes in the spawn area you get booted

Another idea to add upon the Mystic Forge already in place.

When you put 4 items of the exact same type… there could be a slight chance that you get same item but at +2 upgrade.

This would prevent you from losing your item because you will always get a better item out of the mystic forge…

so why not add the opportunity for the mystic forge to give out a +2 upgrade of the 4 same items you put in the mystic forge.

I kind of like the upgrading idea. But, 50% chance to break the item?? Unless I had like 50 of them, yeah no. But I good change to that would be if you needed a special component to upgrade items. And those components would be rare. When used, the first upgrade would have a 0% chance to fail, but 2nd would be 10%, 3rd 20%, 4th 30%, and so on. But the percent would be only to fail (meaning lose that rare/expensive upgrade component), but item wouldn`t break. [and also, the upgrades shouldn’t effect the gear too much, being that this game isn’t heavily gear based]
/opinion

The problem with the tiered system is that it would be too easy to get your item up to +8 or so with little risk

The upgrade system should be the same % chance every upgrade for every item.

The bonuses to the item should be diminishing returns.

so the best stats you would get is from +1 to +2…

The benefit to the player of getting to +5 is they can show off their glowy weapon, and it would be rare (only 3% of the time would you get to +5)

going beyond +5 to +6 or +7 would give less and less stats and still incur the 50% chance of failure…

So you would hardly ever see any items higher than +5… and even if someone was crazy to go higher than +5 the bonuses wouldn’t be that much greater anyway so who cares

if someone wants to upgrade it and take the chance, let them… it wouldn’t be any imabalance to the game

Nobody wants a cookie-cutter character, this will allow the player to stand out and achieve a glowing weapon at +5…

Then why not offer the glow only, without the stats? It does not matter if the bonus only increases 0.1% of your stats. It’s still an increase, and makes the items of player A, more powerful than the items of the player B. That is not a good direction to go… And eventually, someone will get a weapon to +100, increasing all stats by 6-7% or something, and that will really mess the game.

I’m ok with offering other cosmetic options (glows, etc), but never power. Even small increases in power are not a good idea in the end.

What’s the difference if you are up against someone with Legendary items?

The whole point of MMO’s is character progression.

At level 80 you still want to feel like you are progressing your character… even if by a slight margin

GW2 isn’t heavily gear based. Gear is important, but not THAT important.

Did you not read my post above.

Most other games give huge bonuses to upgraded items.

I would suggest doing only a minor upgrade system with diminishing returns.

People with +1 gear would still do just fine against people in all +5 or greater gear

You are probably saying that because you gambled on an upgrade and failed.

The risk / reward dynamic is what adds a whole new dimension to the item market.

Currently in Gw2 if you have the same item as someone else, it is exactly the same…

Adding upgrading capabilities will allow players to stand out… add their own status and gamble with upgrading those stats.

I don’t see anything wrong in letting people attempt an upgrade if they have the balls to do so.

It also gives the game TONS of replayability… people will want to craft NUMEROUS legendary items to attempt to get +2 … or possibly +5… who knows how much gamble they have in their blood!!!

I was excited to see the Mystic Forge… and ArenaNet could easily modify the Mystic Forge to allow this type of Item Upgrade capability for Weapons/Armor/Runes/Sigils… etc

NO. Just no.

An enchanting upgrade system like the one you describe is literally one of the most grindy things ever implemented in an MMO. ArenaNet was trying to do away with stupid, needless grinding.

Getting gear upgrades in Aion wasn’t even fun, because instead of getting a new chest piece and saying “Awesome, this is much better than my old one!” it was “Great, now I have to try and upgrade it without blowing all of my money.” Not fun AT ALL.

Just because a different game implemented a BAD upgrade system, doesn’t mean Arenanet can’t use a GOOD upgrade system.

Players shouldn’t feel like they must upgrade. Upgrading should actually be a very risky proposition and only for players who have the guts to do so… or if they have extra items that are worthless and they are willing to take a risk to upgrade them.

Currently the Gw2 item trading post is broken….

I make more money selling my items to NPC’s then i do selling on the trading post.

If we had upgrade system i might take a chance to get those boots to +5 and sell them on the trading post to actually be able to make a profit…

currently its impossible to make a decent profit off the trading house with random greens and blues.

I understand what the OP wants, which is some sort of advancement when at max lvl and gear. However, that upgrade option is not a good idea.

Say someone does get a weapon and set of armor to +10. That person will be more powerful than a person with a +1 set. That will skew the balance of the game, and make people with more money/time more powerful than the rest… That would put us back into the track of giving more power to the people with more money/time. Something that Anet is trying to avoid.

So it would not be a good idea. I think we should have lots of things we can do at 80, and they can be very time consuming, but they should not reward extra power.

What I am proposing is minor upgrades that would only give a slight boost to stats.

It would not be huge stat increases.

For example.

Weapon at +1:
200 – 320 attack power
+15 power
+10 precision

Same weapon at +2
201 – 321 attack power
+15 power
+10 precision
+ 1 to a random bonus stat

Same weapon at +3
201 – 322
+15 power
+ 10 precision
+ 1 to a random bonus stat
+ 0.5% condition duration

Same weapon at +4
202 – 323
+ 16 power
+ 11 precision
+ 1 to a random bonus stat
+ 0.5% condition duration

Same weapon at +5
203-325
+ 16 power
+ 11 precision
+ 2 to random bonus stat
+ 1% condition duration
(ADDS glowing effect to any weapon at +5)

  • USING THE ABOVE SCALE, with 50% success rate on each step… = 3% chance of successful upgrade to +5 *

So the bonus status will only happen roughly 3% of the time to +5….

These bonus status are not going to imbalance the game…

They are merely there to give someone the idea in the back of their head that they are increasing the capability of their characters. This is to encourage replayability.

Nobody wants a cookie-cutter character, this will allow the player to stand out and achieve a glowing weapon at +5…

There is no other way to solve the 1 hour queue times besides swapping users…

there are 3 options.

1) Kick players who are idle for longer than 2-5 minutes

2) Kick players who are dead

3) Kick players who are dead IF NOT rezzed in 2-5 minutes

1. Allow players to see their position in queue and estimated time
2. Allow players to queue for multiple zones, to go into the first one available
3. Allow players to see the WvW map outside of WvW to make informed decisions about where they want to zone in
4. fix the current issue where some people cut in queue line before others (this really screws up the time)
5. Increase zone player cap
6. Increase number of maps

While i can’t comment if any are feasible or will ever happen, all are things to help people ease into queues, and hopefully work to reduce them. Kicking people out and ‘ruining it’ for those that did wait is not the only way

You have a few good ideas, but problems with others. Let me respond here.

1) This would definitely be somewhat beneficial but it wont prevent people from queueing. This is more of a cosmetic convinience. If people are going to play WvWvW they are going to queue up… They are not going to see “1 hour left” and then un-queue… So this suggestion does not positively (or negatively) influence the WvWvW queue time.

2) BAD IDEA. All this will do is have 1 person take up 4 queue spots. So instead of 500 people queued up, you essentially have 2000 people queued up.

3) I don’t see how being able to see the map is anything other than a cosmetic convinience. This will not change the fact that you must queue up for a WvWvW zone just like you do now.

4) Obviously if there is a queueing bug it needs to be fixed. I am talking about game mechanics here, not game bugs. This should not have been on your list.

5) Obviously they will increase the caps if their servers can handle it, but for now we have to assume that 500 per map is MAXIMUM. We need ideas to allieviate the problems we currently have.

6) The problem with adding more maps is it may lead to the opposite of our current problem. If you add too many maps you will just have too low of a map population which could cause sporadic engagements, empty towers/keeps, and less of the over feel of being in a warzone.

In conclusion i feel like you didn’t offer any real alternative solutions, just a bunch of fluff that won’t actually give any real results in the current game situation.

There has to be a game mechanism that boots players from WvWvW who are inactive or die. It is not fair to people who don’t have all day to wait in 1 hour queues.

Some people have work and families and would like to be able to jump in the action. My solution is the best one.

The only downside to my proposal is that people who die often will end up waiting in queues longer….

BUT THAT IS GOOD THING. You don’t want people on your team who die often anyways!!!

Anytime you die you get booted from WvWvW and you have a 5 minute penalty before you rejoin the queue.

This will allow the queue to refresh much faster, giving more players the opportunity to play WvWvW. Not every player has 1 hour just to wait to get into the action.

Idea to Enhance Weapons/Armor by having [UPGRADE SYSTEM]

My suggestion is to make Weapons/Armors more dynamic and valuable with the following system.

[UPGRADE SYSTEM]

Each item starts at +0 value.

You can take your item to the Mystic Forge to attempt an upgrade.

Each upgrade has a 50% chance to go +1 or to destroy the item.

Each 1/2/+3/ etc… slightly increases random stats on the weapon by a very small margin.

Those who are willing to gamble and get +10 or more will have a very valuable weapon.

This weapon should net a slight benefit but not be ridiculous unbalanced stats.

Benefits:
- The items on the trade post will be HUGELY more varied.
- Users can choose now between all items at +X variability with whichever stats they desire.
- Can be used for PVP or PVE
- Players feel a sense of personal achievement and gratification for crafting a really high + upgrade weapon
- REPLAYABILITY… Players will want to keep coming back to play because of their weapon that they feel a person bond with because THEY UPGRADED IT

I can go on and on about how great of an idea this would be for guildwars 2.

It just needs to be implemented correctly to prevent dupes/bugs/exploits/ overpowered stats

The incremental 1/2/+3 should only give a minor upgrade to some of the status on the weapon

Just imagine someone having a Legendary sword at +0 and having the balls to go +1/ +2 / +3 each time with a 50% chance of the Legendary sword being destroyed.

A legendary item at +3 or +5, imagine how valuable that item would be.

The person could sell it on the Trade Post to net huge profit for their guild, or whatever they want
