Allow me to outline a few strategic, mechanical, and logical reasons as to why your suggestion does nothing but harm WvW and increase Que times.

Strategy:
1) Zerging – Yes I know a poor strategy, but it’s a strategy as old as war itself. Charge a fort with as many men as you can muster and hope to overwhelm the defenders with sheer numbers. More often than at least half your army is viewed as cannon fodder in these rushes.

2) Scouting – While the goal is to send a scout in and get out alive, this type of tactic frequently results in death. Often referred to as suicide missions, run in scout as much information on enemy territory and defenses as you can before they kill you. The information gained from these missions lead to more developed strategies.

3) Disrupt and Harass – Often viewed as similar to zerging, this strategy relies on attacking strategic points with mass numbers to weaken an enemy position in preparation for a main assault or as a distraction to create a weakness at another more vital location.

Given your system these strategies would be eliminated, the only “strategy” that would remain is cowardice, Hit-n-run tactics… Do you really want WvW do degrade into that?

Mechanical:
With the current system, even though you may wait in a queue for hours once your in, that’s it your in. You can play your fill then leave at your leisure. While this system may favor those who have the time to wait it is a far superior system than a system that requires frequent re-queuing. More often than not, the players who can’t be bothered to wait a few hours will be even more aggravated by being kicked constantly. When someone waits in a queue, not matter how short it may be they feel a sense of entitlement to play once they get in. Being kicked shortly after entering serves to do nothing but aggravate the players.

Logical:
1) Re-queue – If 1000 people are in queue and there are only 500 slots, clearly they will be a long queue. Now on average someone will die in PvP every 30 seconds. On a Kick on death system that will open one slot every 30 seconds. This may sound good but you the queue won’t ever really change. Instead of waiting for one lump period to play your wait is stretched over multiple periods and your play time will likely not reflect your time waiting in queue. You could easily spend a total of 7 hours in queue and only play for 3, whereas before you could have spent 3 hours in queue and played for 7.

2) Artificial Queue – While this suggestion may create a fast moving queue on high population servers it will simultaneously create an artificial queue on low population servers. Since if only 400 people queue on the server for those 500 slots, those 400 get in with 100 slots remaining, every death will then lock someone out for a period artificially replicating a queue where one never existed.

I pose to you this:

Player A has no wife/no kids and doesn’t mind waiting 2 hours in queue for unlimited play.

Player B has wife/ and kids and doesn’t have 2 hours to wait in queue… (THIS GAMER CANT EVEN PLAY IN WvWvW)

How is it FUN or FAIR that the long queue time exludes players COMPLETELY from WvW…

A fast-moving queue is the solution.

My proposal is the best solution to allow everyone a fair shot at WvW.

1 vs 1 Arena / 1 vs 1 Tournaments (Lion Arch Stadium)

It would be fun to have an open area in Lion’s Arch you can go watch real players participate in a 1 vs 1 Arena (like a stadium).

Also like 2x a day you could have a 1 vs 1 Tournament in that area, where X number of players sign up and they participate in a series of matches to determine the overall 1vs1 champion of the day.

Have you ever played WvW? Whether or not you are a “good” or “strong” player there matters very little. Everyone who actually fights dies. The only ones who don’t die are the ones who hang in owned keeps doing nothing but hanging around, admiring the landscape or waiting for someone to shoot with a ballista from the top of the wall. Your system favors them over people who actually engage in combat. In fact, it may actually be the case that queues may be shorter, as many people wouldn’t even bother with WvW due to the fact that you’d spend more time on loading screens than actually playing.

Moreover, this completely ruins any long term strategy you may be building up. All of the time you’d lose track of your platoon and have to ask in the chat for information on what happened or what changed since you got kicked. Getting kicked is not fun.

I think you are mad because you are a kitten who dies a lot. Therefore your argument is invalid.

I still think it’s a good idea, just not map wide, but squad wide. Yes, you said only guild leaders can do it, and must have 10 guildies on. But when you get 3-4 commanders like that (which would not be difficult) giving orders in a single map, then it can get confusing.

“Watch it behind us!”
me: hum, nothing behind us, must be on the other side.
“They moved to the left, kill the ballista!”
me: eh, no ballista, must be the other guy
“they are flanking us!! run!”
me: probaly the other gro… ‘you are dead’… wth???

I understand your idea of getting orders through, and more organization, but having too many leaders screaming over messages on the screen to everyone would get confusing.

So yeah, get nice big visible messages, but make them squad only. Maybe add an easier way to join squads. If the map could list available squads that we can right-click + join, then we could get organized quicker.

ok perhaps you will only hear the commander shouts if you are within 2000 yards or so of the commander

I think they could fix it by making a variable population cap by which the largest side can only be ~20% bigger than the smallest side….but the dragon idea is definitely a more hands-on approach lol

They could put NPC soldiers to walk along the walls and knock over ladders… so you would need a good 20+ people with ladders to take a tower

@Rounder- love the image of Anet controlling the Dragon lol!

I agree that the Dragon should be a challenge.

One idea came to mind is that the Main Dragon attacks the center Castle Keep in Eternal Battle grounds since it splits up the map a bit. This Dragon if now killed will Fly off after a X number of minutes and then appear to land near a Fort/tower and move to cause destruction.

There needs to be a timer so the Dragon is not spending hours tearing up everything. Lets say after an hour the Dragon leaves unless its killed. The Dragon will reappear if the X factor is still present for the 1 Server Dominance .

Dragon could have stages where if HP pool drops to X level it flies off and return later to allow the Dragon to cause issues and tension. If the X factor in the 1 Server dominance is broken even if the Dragon is not killed then the Dragon just does not return till X number of hours/ ex 48 hours.

If the Dragon dies then there is a time X before it could come back even if the Server 1 still have a dominance of WvWvW.

I do like Jokael’s idea that the 1 Server control needs to be for a certain period of time like 72 hrs or what ever feels correct by the Devs.

As for Rounder’s idea on Mutiny, one issue i just thought about is,..what happens if there are no one on at night or very few?
Ex. A Server could go around and cut off supplies and end up actually triggering Mutiny all over the other server ?
Or players can cause a mutiny on purpose if the NPCs can hold control and the Server will take it back and get exp, gold and Karma—leading to Farming mutiny on their own locations. I personally say Mutiny Feature has to many ways a faction of players could end up exploiting and farm.

The dragon idea is so awesomely epic.

I think the dragon shouldn’t be automated… it should be controlled by a GM only when 1 side is completely dominating a 2 week match

The GM could go and even the odds by controlling the dragon.

Absolutely agree. Very immersion breaking.

Question is Anet going to put in the programming hours necessary to make such a huge change to the game.

Adding realistic nighttime with a different set of mobs/dynamic events would require NEW content on every single map… essentially DOUBLING the content of the current game.

All the current content took years to make… adding day/night would probably end up being years of programming.

You know exactly what I am talking about. You get exotic level 80 gear and you are set. There is no progression beyond that beyond that of aesthetics, as it should be. This is the game philosophy.

The real purpose of walls and doors is to slow people down and give defenders a chance to respond. It’s boring sitting in a tower for 2 hours waiting for an attack, so sieges are meant to take a little bit of time, even against an empty tower, in order to give the defending team a chance to notice and come do something.

Ladders would allow anyone to capture pretty much anything in about 30 seconds, unless a strong defender presence was stationed there 24/7.

The NPC’s could be programmed to automatically attempt to knock over ladders of a smallish-attack squad.

So perhaps NPC’s could hold out on 4-5 ladders.

Adding an upgrade system is the only way the trading post is ever going to be a meaningful way to make money.

Currently all i do is sell my blues/greens to the NPC and net more money than the trading post.

Imagine if you could attempt to upgrade some of the blues and greens that you would normally just NPC.

This would create a whole new item market to strengthen the Gw2 in-game economy.

Currently the Gw2 economy is a complete joke.

When immersion gets in the way of fun, something has to give. I’d rather lose a little immersion, and be able to do the things I want to do. I play video games for light-hearted fun and enjoyment.

Waiting until daytime to go through Kithicor Forest with a low level character was a nightmare. I’d rather not see that sort of thing again.

It would be way more fun to have the difficulty increase during the nighttime by requiring use of a torch (or have a friend who carries a torch).

New mobs that come out at night, new dynamic events at night.

The average person can easily see how all this would do is IMPROVE the fun and excitement factor (as well as the realism immersion).

It’s dependent upon playstyle. It would improve the fun for someone who has a playstyle similar to yours. It would reduce the fun for someone who has a playstyle similar to mine.

Do you not realize that other people have different opinions.

And you cannot speak for the “average person” (what does that mean anyway?) .. All I’m hearing here is: “If you don’t agree with me, you must be weird.”

The problem here is you are pandering to your own interest, and I am pandering to the majority of people.

The majority of people want VARIETY in a game.

Having the same content, same weather, same everything is not variety.

Guild Wars 2 prides itself on “Dynamic Events”… yet it can’t even accomlish day/night and dynamic weather?

Guild Wars 2 in its current state is really lacking in the Dynamics that the developers promised us.

While i appreciate that you enjoy the game in its current state, this is more than an argument about what I like and what you like.

This forum is about suggesting ways to IMPROVE the game… not to stiffle the innovation because you want your fluffy bunnys to be able to roam freely 24/7 without nighttime or rain.

If server is completely dominating. Have random towers/keep’s Mutiny to the opposing sides if there are zero players defending it.

The problem with Mutiny is, what are the control mechanics to determine one should arise?

You could use Zero Supplies in the the Castle/Fort? or getting no supplies from camps for a period of time with a combination of a low supply number in the Fort/castle.

The major issues with this is that the players can sabotage their server to help another one,..stuff you see in EVE Online.

Most Cases will be:
Players will simply either AFAK at fort as to keep this mutiny event from triggering or you will have shout matches where players will argue who should stay and blame each other if a mutiny happens. Or you will have EVE like tactics where the player say they will stay and then on purpose leave to make a mutiny happen just so their Guild on the other server can take advantage of the chaos.

The purpose of the Dragon-
The Dragon is something that players can’t control and the environment is being used as a form of check and balance. The Dragon is the dungeon master from D&D who says OK, going to shake things up and keep the players on their toes.

I like the idea of a big dragon boss attacking a keep if there is a server imbalance, and mutiny’s happening at towers with zero supply and zero defenders (after 1 hour with zero supply OR zero defenders).

It would be fun to have a sPVP map where there is an amazing weapon 1 person can wield that kills people in 1 hit

To win the match, the opposing team’s goal would be to kill the person wielding the Amazing Weapon.

There will be a 10 minute timer. If you don’t kill the player with the Amazing weapon then the other team wins.

Considering the odds of even making a +5 would be only 3%, i highly doubt you would see any +8 legendary’s

There needs to be an upgrade system where each item starts out at +1 and you can upgrade the stats by upgrading the item to +2 or +3, etc…

Each upgrade comes with a 50% chance of failure which would destroy the item.

This would add a whole new dynamic to the trading post and the in-game market.

Imagine Legendary items at +10.

Perhaps each time you upgrade the item it shines more or has more elemental effect to make the item looks cooler.

Re-read my proposal. The benefits of upgrading would have a diminishing return.

There wouldn’t be people who are overpowered because the system would be designed in such a way that the stats benefits are minimal.

I think the people who are saying that this isn’t a good idea and that they would spend more time waiting in a queue, haven’t spent 4.5 hours in the queue. It’s an aggravating wait

(my answer is not exactly aimed at you, I just hijacked your quote)

Then, please people, do the math.

With the OP’s idea, you (the average player) would NOT spend less time in the queue, since there still would be the same amount of spots left on the WvW maps. If the demand stays the same, people will (in total) spent exactly the same time in queues, only that the waiting time will now be stretched over play-wait-play-wait-etc intervals.

The only “benefit” this approach would have is that it could potentially alienate a number of people who would no longer queue up for WvW after beeing kicked for the n-th time. This isn’t exactly what I would call good game design.

I still claim: The only solutions to full queues would be additional maps to raise the number of open WvW slots (with all the possible problems of such a move). But this isn’t something ANet will simple implement over a weekend.

So get used to it, or switch to a server with empty queues.

What do you think about the new compromise proposale of staring with 3 “lives” and being able to aquire more “Lives” for participating in WvW dynamic events.

This will prevent the alienation of players that CONTRIBUTE to WvW.

The only players who will be alienated with this proposal are players who don’t contribute and who constantly die.

I really like the idea of a boot + 5 minute rejoin penalty for someone who dies 3x and does not contribute in WvW.
