Vick, did you bother to read my post or just the title?

Never mind that your comment is plainly false. If you were correct then more people would play in Orr.
They don’t. Orr is dead.
If you were correct more people would play in any of the end game zones.
They don’t. End game zones are deserted.

My request is valid and Anet should tell us what they are going to do about bringing some life and activity to end game zones?

I propose they either make players more durable so that we can solo events or more likely, and more easily balanced, they improve the way scaling works in events so that they can be enjoyed and completed by players that solo.

Hey Anet,

I dunno if you have noticed but the overworld is pretty much dead.
All most players do is stand around in Lions Arch measuring their legendary kittens or farm lvl 1-10 zones for champs and monthly achieve.

How about you make the rest of the world soloable for those of us who actually want to go out and experience it? Many of the late game zones – hell, many zones and most events, period, are unplayable without a zerg. This just screams to me of poor game design and poor tuning of the supposed scaling that events are supposed to have.

You created this massive, beautiful world. Its about time you gave it some attention.

Please fix the scaling / difficulty for solo players.

Just found a post by someone else that does a fantastic job of not only highlighting my own frustrations with GW2 but goes further and explores the core of the things that I find frustrating. They also explain it all so much better than I do.

Title sums it up.

It is far past time that anet released mounts for this game.
So the game has waypoints, so what! They are not mutually exclusive concepts. You can have mounts AND waypoints just fine. Besides anet loves to give people the legendary carrots to chase, so they can make legendary mount skins.

im tired of slow running everywhere. Give us mounts!

Combo, walk up w e, rinse and repeat
Best used in WvW gank squads, I can kill just about everything in a second or less. Grab the quickness utility skill and the one that adds 15% damage for the next 5 attacks. If you want a more PvE oriented build, I suggest you look at s/p.

You shouldn’t try to go Toughness + Healing with S/D. It’s a weapon set that excels best with Precision + Stealth specialization. This creates a glass-cannon stealth Thief with a constant output of Dazes and superior mobility (via Infiltrator’s Strike).

Against a single target:

  • Infiltrator’s Strike > Cloak & Dagger > Tactical Strike > Auto-attacks.

Against two are three targets (like an enemy reviving a downed enemy):

  • Dancing Dagger x 3 + Auto-attacks.

Remember, in PvP a Thief depends heavily on Stealth and DPS to avoid damage. It’s hard to hit something you cannot see, and a panicked enemy is more likely to reach for his heals and escape skills rather than attack you (which your Dazes will interrupt).

Thanks for the reply Iohanna, but this IS what I have been doing. The Stealth talent line IS the Toughness / Healing line by the way. The issue I have seems to be that I don’t do enough damage to kill the target before I get 2 shot (everywhere), my blind / daze / immobilize / cripple never seems to land (in pvp / wvw), my stealth seems to constantly fail / be ignored (everywhere) and I am wearing paper for armor.

Now I say everywhere, but I’m ok when fighting 1 mob and only one mob. Unless I am in a under 40 zone I can usually take out 2-5 mobs without too much trouble. In zones 40+ I get smoked if I get 2 mobs on me. I just cannot seem to put out the damage required to kill them and I dont have the durability to tank them. No im not standing still. Yes I circle strafe and dodge. I have tried a Power and Stealth build, I have tried a power, precision build, as I think about it, i have tried every 2 line combo except power and trickery.
None seem to give me a good balance of damage and durability with the S/D… well, no durability at all even with 30 points Stealth (Toughness / healing) with a full Toughness gear set… im still wearing wet paper. : /

And this is why you should start on dungeons early! Most people have gone through the die-rez-die-rez thing but usually at level 30 when doing Asacalon Catacombs in story mode. It’s a learning process like almost everything else. Once you learn, you can do the dungeons on auto-pilot.

We WERE doing story mode. : /

Thats no excuse at all for a zerg of 20 mobs each with more HP that your group combined and the only way to get passed them is rez – zerg…. THAT is bullkitten design. Sorry but it just is. That is only one example out of countless.

GW 2 dungeons are definitely the worst of any MMO I can remember. I think it boils down to a few things really.

1) Long term hardcore WoW raider experience was utilized to create the dungeons. So the AOEs, the boss attacks are all like end game raid mechanics. They one shot you or disolve your HP bar in a second. Just did TA explore and boy did the worm boss just suck. It is not that the content is not doable, it is just that its cheap and totally unfun. Having a plant spawn and do AOE poison puff that kills me in a second is garbage. And the pure volume of these AOE clouds and boss red circles make the game more about staring at the ground then strategizing your next round of attacks.

2) They removed the tank, DPS, support from the game. Probably the stupidest move I have ever seen happen. The game plays like WoW without a tank or healer, mobs just run all over the place and people are kiting for their lives. Utter chaos and it removes so much strategy and planning from the game. Its a mindless zergfest now. Having those intricate class roles and creating a viable team was a lot of what makes MMOs engrossing when grouping. Its like a football team with nothing but running backs, and no playbooks, and no designated player positions.

3) And I guess more of an offshoot of number 2, the dungeons are still copying the WoW model or typical MMO dungeon design. But in those games you have support, tank, and DPS roles. So we are playing dungeons that feel like we ought to have designated roles but we don’t. So its a lot of dying, a lot of annoying kiting, and the dungeons are tuned down just enough to make it viable. But the gameplay is horrible, no one wants to run around and kite as a melee character.

The more I read, the more I learn about the game, my class and how to “do better” the less interested I become in even bothering with any of it. I came here (to GW2) to be a casual player. I did the full time WoW raid thing. I don’t have the time or desire to be “hard core” again.
I came here because the advertisements said this game was designed to allow me to play the way I want to play and enjoy myself…. what a crock of bullkitten! I should have known.
You want to play a S/D Thief? AAAAAHAHAHAHAAHA well you better get used to being useless at everything in the game, cuz we (Anet) havn’t bothered to make melee viable for thieves beyond D/D burst in sPvP and…. oh yeah, thats it. Sorry.

Want to try to melee the boss? Nope! Want to try to melee ANYTHING in a dungeon?
Cant do that either! Pretty happy you leveled your Thief now and not a ranged class (cuz shortbow is so strong and Pistols have such great AoE) right?

I’m really hating my thief. I want to play Sword and Dagger but I cannot seem to find a build that complements those weapons well. I have crap for damage, I die in 3 hits. I’m virtually useless in dungeons, WvW, sPvP… well, everything.
WTF!
Why even give me weapons and tell me that this game is all about playing the way I want to play, and then having terrible and mostly useless choices for traits?

The abilities of S/D are really nice.. on paper. Its too bad there are no traits that really complement them and its too bad that even a Toughness / Healing build is about as durable as soggy paper.

From some searching on the forum tonight, it appears that no one bother with S/D, and apparently for good reason.

Anet… how about you address this while you are busy working on the Thief.. you know, nerfing the couple things that the thief actually can do… maybe you could make Thief viable in other situations and roles instead of nerfing the crap out of the one or two possible pvp builds.

I’m really sorry I wasted my time with the agonizing grind to 80. S/D Thief is a pointless main. : /

I had heard that GW2 dungeons were difficult so I put off running them until I got my character to 80.

These dungeons aren’t difficult, they are trash.

Die-rez-die-rez until you win is not a feature or a mechanic, it is a terribly tuned and sloppily designed dungeon.

I am really disappointed at how poorly designed these dungeons are. I am amazed anyone even bothers with them.
