Pff.. just give every class the option to put a revealed debuff to target for like 10 sec (not just 4 like sic’em – it should be more ), or make the stealth as in every other game .. move speed significantly slowed while in stealth & stealth removed if getting hit / dealing damage
I don’t see other (more successful MMOs) having problem with that concept.

Stealth is a tricky thing, but it’s not the main issue.
When the thief stealths, he is not attacking you. When the mesmer stealths, his phantasms and clones are still attacking and damaging you and those hurt a lot.
When both a thief or a mesmer stealth, I can deal damage to them with aoe effects, but because of Prismatic Understanding, the mesmer is gaining protection, aegis or regeneration every second. My damage is either blocked, healed over or significantly negated. It’s nearly impossible to take their life down unless you greatly outnumber the mesmer. I’ve seen PU mesmers fight 1v5 and win or reach a stalemate when the oposing players would have good survivability.
Now try dueling an average thief or an average PU mesmer. I can fight and beat even good thieves. But I talk to the most skilled players I know and they have zero chance against a PU mesmer unless they are running one themselves. I know WvW is not balanced on 1v1s, but PU mesmers can take greater numbers quite well and also chase if you run.

PU Mesmers are good for WvW roaming and nothing else. They have zero chasing ability and their burst (ie. Illusionary Counter and confusion) depends on you attacking them. Just ignore them. I don’t see much point in balancing around a troll build that’s essentially useless in every aspect of the game other than roaming.
The fact that they have 0 chasing ability is wrong.
Most PU use Traveler rune (which is extremely good for them, as both the boon duration and conditions duration are really nice). Plus they have blink, an immob from sword or another blink from staff.They are actually quite good at chasing. They are not like thieves or warriors or gs rangers, but they definitely don’t lack out of combat mobility.
That blink from staff you are referring to actually blinks you away from your target – defensive blink

& the sad part is no mod/dev is going to reply because they are scared … & they seem to be very incompetent at balancing – fixing, that i don’t really count on this game to make it 1 more year from now.
It has already begun in twitch.tv it’s not even in the 15 top games …
I think maybe a support skill that stealths for like 5 second on a 45 second cooldown would be fine but we don’t need anything near as what thieves or Mesmer have.
as for more damage, I actually think some of our weapons are in a good place right now compared to where they where.
on the stealth topic I actually think our class needs 1.) better movement abilities more swiftness and maybe a shadow step instead of stealth and 2.) more condition removal

no more stealth. Thieve can use bow as well. Go roll them
As mesmers go I can chain stealth with my PU mesmer for up to 17 seconds I don’t think that’s a bad escape method – they have more than 1 stealth skill you know ?
So i think since the ranger should be well aware with camouflage (if speaking irl / lore-wise ) why shouldn’t GW2 rangers have more stealth options, it’s only common sense ?
imo, rangers shouldn’t have a whole lot of stealth. the stealth added to hunter’s shot was okay, but it’s weird to put it on longbow, even though most of the time you’ll probably be keeping your distance.
I might be okay with If Hide in Plain Sight (20pt wilderness survival) was changed so you could move while camouflaged, because if you get stunned or dazed in the same spot while camouflaged, it’s almost pointless because your enemy (especially in pvp) probably knows you’re still in that same spot and will keep attacking…so, idk. that would be the very most stealth rangers should have…and ranger damage is good where it’s at, because a lot of damage comes from your pet just being with you and if u have a few BM traits here and there that give u loads of might from ur pet
It’s almost as if you have been missing the past year – have you even checked the pet situation ?
Pets miss 90% of their attacks if target moves, so no pet doesn’t give any damage since it cannot land a hit & they are utterly useless.
I think those 30% damage reduction (because of the pet) should be given back to rangers if pets cannot be fixed & remove pets entirely … it just drags the whole class back.
As for the stealth option I think there should be because it’s silly when most other classes have either good stealth &/or mobility while the ranger is crippled with almost none if caught.
Lore-wise .. it’s a ranger for christ’s sake & should be in the whole thing of not being spotted while in the open & have better mobility & options to escape at least while in open fields.
The current state is that rangers should avoid open spaces since if they get caught they are dead in most cases … a ranger … in the wild … to not feel sure in it’s native environment (and have the upper hand while in the wilds) is as if speaking of a shark being bullied by a pig while both swimming in the ocean.. honestly a pathetic situation & class development.
Conclusion – Anet should have named the class something else but definitely NOT a ranger because it might be everything BUT ranger in it’s current state.

Well I think OP has a point BUT only to make dodge moves more responsive instead of the waiting for the attack animation to finish (which is silly) a dodge not in the right time is a useless dodge.
I don’t know why the guys think that when a thief kills me on my ranger I ( or any other ranger ) have/s no skill
& then the same thief i wtf stomp with my mesmer… i don’t think the problem is in the skill level though.
In the same manner thieves say most rangers are noobs (because thieves are op actually) should i claim the same – thieves are noobs – when i kitten them with my mesmer ? People are so stupid these days
Please don’t call a game where turning off growl and dismissing the pet before a jump within an instance are the only management that a pet needs, as an example to follow. Sure you have some other abilities, i even have fond memories of eyes of the beast, or having to feed the pet but please, pets in that game are shoot and forget.
Welcome to GW2! Where managing a pet truly matters, where there’s reward/punishment on timing returns and swap pets, where choosing the right pet matter.
when was the last time you brought a ranged pet to fight and walked to a certain spot and “placed” your pet to act as a pewpew turret? Do you use “guard” at all? Shame on you, because the ranger as a whole even though not perfect, is awesome! They even buffed the HP to dumb it down, which i totally was against it and still there’s complaint.
Get that in your head: you came from a “stay out of the poo” and “don’t mess your rotation” game to ACTIVE COMBAT. The business here is dodge or die and since business is booming, why on earth would the pet management be less active?

You are so wrong and it’s painfully obvious, while other classes dont have such a drawback – rangers limp handicapped in hint sight, ofc NOT only because the pet is utter crap but for tons of other reasons too ie. traits skills & weapons (which i assume is everything a class usually has[except for visual effects lol])
Rangers are hopeless as it seems, so I’m sticking to my ez mode mesmer to kitten ez mode thieves.

I simply don’t understand why thieves get everything for free – very good damage, very high mobility & TONS of stealth – so basically everything a pvp player needs & ranger get nothing ?
This balancing drives me insane, in a balanced game everyone should have equal chances.
& dont tell me thieves suck in zergs cuz rangers suck in zergs too.
You have some points but id say unless pet AI is being remade (or even the whole ranger class) the situation will stay the same – namely utterly crappy useless class that nobody wants in party / zerg .
People need to start asking themselves other questions. Sure you may be doing well in sPvP, PvE, or even WvW. The question is are you providing anything meaningful to the group? Are you doing better than any other class out there? Are you even on the same page as other classes out there?
If your answer to any of those questions is no, the class isn’t doing well. Now we can all sit here and disagree on just how much work is left to get this class on the same page as other classes all day long, but if you are ever sitting there saying ‘well the class is alright, and only needs X’ that means the class isn’t ok and coming into threads like this pretending the class is perfect and is on the same page as Thieves, Warriors, and Guardians AT ANYTHING is a disservice to the player community.

Duh i another example was when in wvw the other day the commander was making a profession check
- 1st he called all guardinas
- 2nd he called all warriors
- 3rd he called all elementalists
- 4th he called all necros
- 5th – mesmers – thieves
& after that he asked did i forget anyone – probably no….
jesus kittening christ I’m in T1 server & commanders aren’t even considering rangers for a valid profession, i leave the conclusions to you.
(ofc i expect some biased ppl to get to the wrong conclusions again, naturally deluded that we are “ok”.
It is as if you are handicapped in a wheelchair – there is the doctor who can make you walk again but you keep insisting "I’m totaly fine doctor, just gonna race your porsche with my wheelchair).
I’m inclined to agree with Durzlla here. We have roles we can play. Can others do those roles better? Probably. Is it a noticeable improvement? I think the answer is subjective. Bottom line, know your class in and out. Know that Rapid fire only puts out 1.3k + 38% scaling. Also know that 1H Sword not only provides DPS, but lock down as well, for you and your opponent. Finally, don’t forget your pet. Yeah they don’t listen half the time, but they’re there and are damage/utility is factored into them.
Don’t be offended please but while i know my class in and out a thief that that barely knows his wtf stomps me & that’s because of the broken stealth in this game.
He is so much more rewarded playing thief while i get punished for playing ranger sorry but i don’t call this balance.
You can never win with a LB against a half decent thief in wvw hes just gonna melt you,
also gw2 is soooooo far from balanced pvp that my dead grand ma can even see it, no self respecting pvp oriented game has a perma stealth IN COMBAT & the video i posted previously shows why.
Man you are totally right … that’s kittening pathetic, it’s as if the devs themselves have abandoned this game already.
I have come the conclusion " GW2 developers are butchering their own child and feed it’s flesh to their other children" that’s how i feel when i see the “gw2’s family” attitude towards ranger.

I tried it all, I admit trapper is best BUT when he sees hes getting low just stealths & runs & that’s it …
I’ve been through the forums for quite a while & I’ve seen some very interesting ideas like: adding a passive stealth detection to pets (at least to some pets) in 1500 radius & when the pet is killed the ranger looses this ability to see through stealth.
This way he could have a chance vs thieves & can also be countered by getting his pet killed.
Or engineers to have a turret that detects stealth & such things.

ofc there are people that are going to say: his opponents aren’t organised bla bla well i don’t see the need to be organised for 5 man to kill 1 guy – it’s not a huge PvE raid boss or something.
I get jealous why shouldn’t ranger be able to do such feats (or any other class for example)
If you place a ranger in the same situation everyone knows what the answer is going to be.
No other class can face 5 opponents AT THE SAME TIME and win (excluding mesmer probably) and that saddens me even more, it’s so obvious balance issue that it hurts when watching

Well Ottolette, I agree with you on your points but why shouldn’t we be able to win a match 1v1 vs a thief, i mean whole meaning of the word “balance” is everyone to have fair chance, at least that’s what i thought when beginning to play gw2 (from release).
Everyone should be able to counter everyone (ofc i know that’s difficult to be accomplished).
But there are some quite obvious flaws in ranger’s class as a whole – pet being almost worthless & further reducing the player’s damage, as well as most traits & skills – which developers refuse to fix from the beginning & the worst is they keep nerfing the class.
(I cannot think of the reason to do so when you see 80% of the rangers have either rerolled to another class or quit the game straight of [as 2 of my friends already])
As expected, & rangers no we are not in a good state in WvW.. we r crap & as far as wvw roaming goes thieves kitten u & hard, no matter what build u have a good thief will wear you down or simply run away, you cant kill him simple as that.
(But if you wish you could delude yourself you’re in a good state when a thief laughs at your corpse in wvw next time)
Also the community doesn’t need “in denial of the truth players” & the truth is the class needs an overhauling a GRAND one.
Was simply asking if there is going to be one soon & i guess there probably isn’t goint be any.
Also do u know why gw2 is losing players every day ? You might have a hint – it’s because of poor balance.
Just go on www.twitch.tv & you are definitely NOT going to see gw2 anywhere near the top streams because apparently majority of the people have abandoned the game already.
It’s simply no fun anymore & it’s heading down from the start with every passing “patch”.

Soooo I’m asking when are devs gonna fix rangers because i don’t enjoy playing other professions (have guardian, warrior, engi, mesmer …etc) but i enjoy my ranger the most.
I want to know the answer so i can make my schedule either to continue playing gw2 or to go back to wow or something else.
The current state or ranger is plain crap!
(oh & by the way in the mean time could you post some good mmos [ with balanced pvp] cuz from watching where the ranger’s state is heading to im most probably going to have to choose another game soon, much appreciated)

there are two counters to PU mesmers:
1. condi warr (macebow) – they have enough reflection, condition removal, and condition out-put to be able to beat them. I played condi warr for a very long time and always been able to beat PU mesmers though not with ease.
2. s/d thieves – they counter and beat everything…obviously it’s NOT ok when a build so easy to play and almost entirely passive is so strong that there are only 2 specific specs that counter it…
I don’t know why ANet promotes passive play…

as a ranger i dont find pu mesmers difficult but to play thieves is plain ez-mode
by the way saw a post of the above stating some friends of yours ditched gw2 as a game because of how imbalanced & OP thieves are & how Anet doesnt do naything to balance them (namely remove combat stealth) so i have to share also several of my friends (2) left cuz of the exact same reason…
i think we all get the point where gw2 is heading to losing popularity & player base cuz of poor balance

just take a look thief 1v5 – win
no matter how bad the opponents are no other class placed in such situation can win – place a guardian, ranger necro or whatever other than thief & it will melt in 1v5
conclusion thief op … but ofc i expect from thief players daggers to be thrown at me because when thief gets nerfed they are gonna have to use normal player skills thus resulting in showing how bad they really are.
