I am sorry to say this but “Short and sweet: If you think inflation is a major issue in Guild Wars 2, you should do more research on MMO economies and general economics.” is more like an insult rather than an actual attempt to explain his opinion on the matter (and this is not his first post in this manner). This sentence is on the level of the arguments of children. If this is the kind of answer and manner one can expect from an ANet employee than why do forum posters are reminded every time by ANet that we should give constructive feedback and be respectful. There is even a posting guideline for us. I can adhere to the guideline but in exchange I expect the same treatment from ANet towards me. Without mutual respect there cannot be good communication between the company and its customers.

Short and sweet:
If you think inflation is a major issue in Guild Wars 2, you should do more research on MMO economies and general economics.

And here is one of the largest problems: do you really think the majority of the GW2 population actually has an interest in economics and would find this fun?

I’d think (and of course I could be wrong) most people in the game want a fun game to play and earn items through playing content (better, shinier items through challenging content), not this random money grind that’s been set up.

Unfortunately, you are really spot on what this game revolves around and John Smith does his job in light of this. I guess; from ANet’s point of view, he probably does a really good job. The whole TP system with the RNG in the game encourages you to farm gold or if you find it really tedious just grab your credit card and buy some gems then convert them to ingame gold. Inflation is rather good for this system actually since those who play very casually and can’t keep up with the prices will be more inclined to buy gems. Therefore, you won’t see any drastical changes from ANet regarding the current state of the economy of this game.

Dear John Smith

I don’t have to be an economist to see this. Anyone with a little thinking and a little playtime in this game can see through this system. I also don’t think that an ANet employee should answer posts in a manner you usually do. Since you often recommend us that we should learn economics, I’d like to give you a personal advice: Maybe you should learn community realitions to avoid insulting customers.

Well you can admire Barefoot Jennah on 3 characters Don’t lose hope, this year we might get a mini Logan to get a matching couple

I experienced this in Cursed Shore, too. It is rather unfortunate, because you have to have some statue’s power disabled to get the skillpoint; for example, in the case of Melandru statues where those vines start to cripple and bleed you interrupting your channeling.

Orr Temples

Posted by: Seraphina.6859

Seraphina.6859

“You can complete the traits by doing the defend event and killing the mentioned boss (as in, don’t have to be the full-blown assault event chain).”

In the case of the Temple of Lyssa this is not true. You have to defeat the corrupted high priestess of Lyssa for the trait who only spawns during the attack event.

Orr Temples

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seraphina.6859

Seraphina.6859

I sympathize with people from low population servers; however, what some people from low population servers haven’t noticed yet is that the megaserver system put every player (from low, medium and high population servers) in a disadvantage:

1)You can’t see from other maps whether a temple is contested or not because of always contested WPs. Therefore you always have to zone into the specific Orr map to check the temple status. Basically, this leads you to babysitting specific temples or giving up on them completely. Furthermore, because of contested WPs the players can’t coordinate a full temple run since they can’t see the temple status on Cursed Shore from Malchor’s Leap and there is a high chance that you’ll end up in different overflows.

2) The temples are almost always open because of the increased number of players. Players more often do the defense events which is a problem because you not just get more but also more meaningful loot from doing the attack event. Also, the attack event is required for some of the new grandmaster traits that people failed to realize in game, let alone the griefers who deliberately defended temples to block people from aquiring their new traits. And don’t tell me that you could just try to communicate with these people and they would stop doing the defense. NO. Believe it or not, it doesn’t work always even if you explain them why they should stop. They either don’t pay attention to their surrounding or they are doing it deliberately.

3) Insane number of players are participating in these events now completely trivializing the event or in the case of the Temple of Grenth scaling it up to unproportionate difficulties (e.g. one shotting shades).

I just leave this here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqVHpyu72Is

The video shows what a complete mess a temple event is with the megaserver. The player who recorded the video can hardly see anything on his screen from the fight. It also shows how certain mechanics of the fight are completely unnoticed by him (he is lvl 76 and I guess he has never done this event before): that he should turn away from the priestess at certain times.

4) DCing from a temple event occurs more frequently and when you log back to the map you realize that you are in a different overflow where the event is not active or you manage to log back to the same map to see the event finished because everything dies so fast.

5) The statues are a completely useless mechanic now. They were indicators of temple status and obstacles to overcome. However, the megaserver can’t handle overarching mechanics like the statues whose effect crossed map boundaries.

The issues with the orrian temples really show how the megaserver is in conflict with the original design of temple events and I dare say with dynamic events in general.

I play on Piken Square. Before the megaservers I could do temple events more frequently. People from low population servers could at least guest to other servers and do events there. It wasn’t a perfect system I agree but at least you had a plan B, a choice. I don’t have a choice now, I can’t choose an overflow.

Solo-able content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seraphina.6859

Seraphina.6859

OP, I think you will eventually see some solo instances designed. For example, Lord of the Rings Online had almost exactly what you are referring to. Basically they created about 6 mini-dungeons that were designed for solo (although they also had a “single” henchman you could take with you). At any rate, I think you will see it, because despite the “multi-player” part of MMO, a huge percentage of MMO players are primarily solo players, so I doubt they will ignore that demographic for too long.

I think you are referring to skirmishes (correct me if I’m wrong). Skirmishes in Lotro; however, are far mor adjustable and I would argue that they were designed for solo play only since you can adjust the party size (solo, duo, small fellowship that is 3 men, fellowship that is 6 men and raid group size). You can also determine the difficulty. I really loved doing skirmishes in Lotro (sometimes solo and sometimes with my friend). There were a lot more skirmishes than 6 in the game. It would be great if Guild Wars 2 had short instances like the skirmishes in Lotro. I also liked the solo dungeons that were introduced in Aion, though they are less flexible than Lotro skirmishes.

Well, Dondarrion, they certainly won’t have to fear that new zones will be underpopulated. Instead; they will be overpopulated, that is no way better from my point of view. It will be a nightmare to do anything especially if they follow the zerg style contents of previous living story chapters in season 2.

The megaserver system was supposed to be introduced slowly, yet the whole world map got megaservered under a week. So much for fine tuning…

And won’t expect new patches until they are finished with the China release and everything runs smoothly there.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Seraphina.6859

Seraphina.6859

@Seraphina: My point there was that for people that want to play the high level content (WvW and dungeon runs, etc) they are more or less being forced to research the meta, grind/zerg for the gold and SP to unlock those traits for the meta, then not playing their toon in any other way. i like to explore and all, but i have one of every class and of every race with some dupes in there as well all at level 80. I’ve seen the world Anet has provided so far. Numerous times. Now they are telling me I HAVE to do it all over again on alts that i might make just to unlock a few traits and do content I never enjoyed doing before to unlock other traits. That’s just goofy.

I completely understand your point, but why do you address this to me? I just expressed my feelings about the new trait acquisition system; that it is a very bad implementation of a good idea. The way trait aquisition works now encourages the playstyle you and others have described: rush to lvl 80 and get only the meta traits, thus throwing build diversity and experimenting out of the window.

My issues with the trait system in more detail:

I.
I have explored the world of Tyria numerous times, I have 10 gift of explorations in my bank…. I like exploring maps, but the idea to attach traits to them is horrible for several reasons: 1. you may need that trait to help explore the map , 2. many traits are assigned to areas way above the appropriate level (Fireheart Rise, Frostgorge Sound), though it can be addressed easily 3. exploring maps is not everyone’s cup of tea… it becomes tedious for the 2nd or 3rd time, so the process becomes extremely repetitive with alts after a while.

II.
Anet, again, tries to “encourage” players to go and play WvW despite the fact that whenever the living story made players go to WvW maps, there was a negative outcry from the playerbase on the forums. Also, there were numerous threads about questioning why world completion is tied to WvW until they blatantly said that it was for driving more pve players to WvW hoping they will love it and return. While that time you could say that you don’t need that achievement point or the little star beside your name, it is not necessary to play the game; this time you have to go there for some of your traits. Traits are essential for character development and shouldn’t be tied to one game mode. I understand the opposite side, too. Players who just want to pvp and WvW should have their own modes of acquiring traits in WvW and pvp maps. Many pve players don’t like to go to WvW because they don’t like playing against other players, and are being afraid of ganking and griefing (which can happen a lot in Obsidian Sanctum where you get your falling damage reduction trait now).

III.

Leveling a character is even more boring now that until lvl 30 you don’t get trait points and after that there is a long hiatus between new trait points.

IV.

I can’t go and hunt for my level appropriate traits since most of them are way above my level.

That is why I said this new system is a chore for me: I can’t get most of my traits so the best solution would be to just powerlevel to 80 and bother with traits after that. Where is the fun in that? (and no way I will buy them, they are too expensive and again where is the fun in that?)

I’ve already stated my feelings about the megaserver in another thread (Guild-World-Events-Megaservers-WvW) but I like to point out some issues here, too. It is too late for a system like this to be introduced to a game that had its server communities for more than a year. Also, many elements of Guild Wars 2 was not created with megaservers in mind (waypoints, the guild system, hearts and dynamic events, the new ascended material aquisition system). I feel that the megaserver is just too counterproductive to this game.

The megaserver is detrimental to both server and guild communities. You need these communities for the game to live on. Megaservers and megazergs will not be enough.

The new trait aquisition sytem is in conflict with everything they wanted to achieve with it: providing new players with a more simple and transparent system, encouraging experimenting, giving players a better feeling of achievement.

Personally, it enourages me to never create new alts. The whole system is a chore and needs to be fully revamped.

Game Updates: Guild World Events, Megaservers, WvW

Seraphina.6859

The megaserver simply removed the fun in open world content for me. Megaserver basically broke their game (contested WPs, trivialized open world encounters, broken server communties, guild issues, more copetition for mob tagging even for hearts now). Maps are way too overcrowded. At this point, I’d really appreciate if they just revert the game back to the old system. They can tune the megaserver technology and maybe alleviate some issues, but they can’t change the fact that this system destroys server communities in pve which is really detrimental for European servers.

Reminder: Personal Story is horrible

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seraphina.6859

My point is that Trahearne is entrusted with EVERYTHING, while the player is told to help him out. Again, a usurpation of the quest the player has been working toward the entire storyline up until Trahearne came along.

What quest would that be?

There wasn’t one (Unless Sylvari where your wyld hunt is to go after the dragons). Before that point, you went from being another person, to joining the order and helping them and other races out.

There wasn’t a clear epic quest going on, not until the Pact formed and it was clear that we would march on Orr.

I’d like to disagree. The players join the orders with one clear reason: to help fight the elder dragons. From lvl 22 the personal story directly deals with the threat of Zhaitan. Basically, your “epic quest” starts from here, from lvl 22.

SPOILERS From the wiki for reference :

Part III — Levels 22-28

The character is introduced by their mentor to the three orders and made aware of the true threat of the Elder Dragons. At the end of this chapter, the character is persuaded to permanently join an order to aid in the fight against the dragons (end of mission level 26).

Asura characters work with the orders to rescue a researcher who has discovered that the dragons consume magic, whose research is being covered up by the Arcane Eye.
Charr characters work with the orders to find and destroy a dragon crystal that raises the dead and consumes the land.
Human characters start with The Orders of Tyria. The three orders suggest different methods to deal with the increasingly problematic Risen. With the aid of the orders, the character discovers the identity of the seraph who is behind all of this.
Norn characters discover that the dredge are targeting Durmand Priory and scriptures of powerful technology hidden in their archives.
Sylvari characters work with the orders to recover the legendary blade Caladbolg from the squire Waine and then confront Mazdak the Accursed, the lich responsible for the death of the firstborn Riannoc.

And come on… it wasn’t really a secret from the marketing of the game that you will face Zhaitan, it will be your mission to fight him.

Shoulders – Seer
Top – Phoenix
Gloves – Ascended
Pants – Zodiac
Shoes – Zodiac

2nd set:
