I started to write a long point list of improvements however two stand out as absolutely necessary to either remove altogether or reduce cost.
1. Armor repairs – Ok many from mostly korean mmo’s are used to this. From Gw1 and Arenanet no we’re not. Some say they can make the money up easy. Not so easy for more casual players.
2. Travel costs…It’s a disinsentive to help players in different areas. Many world events I won’t even bother going as l am not covering travel expenses. What’s the point.

Please Arenanet, many of my friends and myself are concerned that Gw2 has/is taking too many game concepts from Korean mmo’s. Don’t go any further down the path of the likes of Aion.

Orr gameplay is awful

They want to incentive for people to spread out in orr? get rid of the ridiculous respawn timers. Get rid of the knockdowns, stuns, and the like that get chain spammed by numerous mobs. Spread the actual mobs out some.

Reduce mobs in certain areas. Being a necro repeatedly pulled back into mobs by numerous spectral grasps is insane. The mob pile just kept growing.
Other times l’ve managed to solo around there, but last night….
Was with my guardian friend too, we just get sick of it. Sick of risen, sick of the same mobs over and over. Sick of crap drops from Arah event, Dragon events.
Anyway, after a couple of hours in Orr last night. He logged, l went and played alt. It’s just too much, too boring.
New areas and content won’t improve it.

Its easy.

Get in the room, spread out, kill the adds in priority over the boss.

That way the aoe is spread out, the adds are dead so the really lethal aoe does not occur and not everyone gets hit my the bosses fire lines.

Boss actually has pretty low health, its just you have to clear adds to allow you time to dps rahter than constantly dodging aoe.

A really good fight where proper execution means its fun and doable, but messing round on the bridge and ignorign adds results in a wipefest. We need more of these boses not less.

(and use dodge, and cds to get past bridge if people are stackign there)

IMO cameirus is right

everyone stops right after the bridge and starts dealing dmg
BUT this always ends up with the whole grp whiping right @the bridge…

go inside, spread out and kill the adds first! thats how it works
if your getting to much dmg and you heal is on CD than walk back over the bridge and wait till you can heal yourself, that way you wont die…
IF everyone is using the same tactics there wont be anyone on the bridge, so there wont be any AOE spam…

this way its pretty EASY do kill him
there is actually no need to make this boss easier IMO

it only needs one or two people to tell the “raid” what they have to do

Have to wonder what class you’re playing. I’ve heard this tactic from legionmates, tried it and still near one shot. Mostly players would be downed and dead at bridge bottleneck and not able to make it into room.
Really, it’s a level 1-15 zone….
World events and Dungeons like AC should be accessible for the level of area.
There’s supposed to be changes to event with 15th November update. I sure hope so for new players.

“The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.’

Are they joking or have they not implemented this properly yet….
Participated in numerous world events, champion kills since patch…the usual blue and green rubbish if that. Or more porous bones from Orr. Why bother?
I was actually thinking it was worth continuing to bother going to some events again after reading above quote in patch notes…seems not.
So back to levelling alts, the occasional run around Orr for ori and wood and hope to hell this game improves sooner than later.
One has to wonder the direction devs seem to be taking though. I just hope they don’t continue to follow NcSoft’s example with the Gem Store and thinking new content is going to ‘fix’ the numbers that have already left.

Made a thread about this also. Many players on US servers are Oceanic. Times don’t work here either.
Seems to me that since there’s EU servers, US and Oceanic times could have worked much more favourably for all had they made it a few hours later. Events start at 6am Sat. here. It’s difficult for devs to make times to suit all yet it seems a little more thought could have balanced times better for all concerned. Of course not everyone can be pleased by one off events. Seems to me it would be even better if they at least repeated the events a few times during the day.
MIssed out on all Halloween events here too as did other Australians. We just lose interest.

Although aware that it must be difficult for developers to make times that suit all US and Oceanic players for such events, it seems 12pm PST is an odd time. Not only would many west coast US players still be at work/school for starting event, for us here in Aus without DST, it’s 6am…..then final event is Monday. Just a suggestion that later PST would still be reasonable for US players and better for Oceanic players also.
Missed Halloween events for same reason. Please consider for future events.

The post may be a little naive, yet touches on a serious issue with the current trend of Mmos.
People will spend real money to buy gems for items. Gw2 would seem to be using a model based on the current trend of ‘F2P’ games that are actually P2P.
Hence now the massive problem with bots and Rmt’s. It’s a shame.
Of course they need to pay staff, upkeep servers and so on, yet the current systems used do not work. I do not pretend to know what the answer is to solve the issue of maintaining income, keeping the loyal player base that Gw1 had, and deterring RMTS.
I certainly don’t mind spending a reasonable amount per month, in some ways prefer the subscription model, yet prices do seem inflated.
Already many loyal Gw1 friends have stopped playing, and my interest is waning for a number of reasons. The real money trading being a major deterent. Guild Wars 1 was unique and special. Those days have sadly gone it seems.
Point being in relation to topic though is that I will not buy keys either to open chests.
I find it offensive to have chests continually drop yet forced to buy keys from a store to open them.
Just happened apon this thread so sharing my thoughts. Not interested in troll or fanboy replies and fyi will most likely not look at this thread again.

Issue: Step 3 ‘Defend the Gate’ not updating

Fight mobs outside fort on camp side, not at fort entrance.

This demonstrated how easily a quest will not update.
It’s possible such similar simple issues are occurring for others that also prevent updates.

It is particularly frustrating because the completion of this quest then opens Asura gates to cut already excessive travel expenses [imo at least while so many bugs still exist in game: 1. The gate should be open, 2. Travel costs should be drastically reduced or…suspend them altogether]

Oops, meant to post last night that two of us managed to complete it.

What we did differently:
Stayed on camp side of mobs, rather than running to fort ramp and fighting from there as ‘defend fort gate’ would indicate, also attempting to solo, being at gate allowed me to run inside when overwhelmed by too many mobs as a light armor class.
Anyway, that seemed to be the problem.

The quest then updated correctly.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear enough as l was rushing to go out.
This is a bug report. I’ve edited it so hopefully it is clearer.
The purpose of this thread is the personal storyline would not currently progress past step 3: ‘Defend the Gate’.

Completed this storyline quest previously on another character with 3 players.
Today after patch, on second character spent over an hour and two attempts.

BUG in Personal Storyline – The Battle of Fort Trinity
Storyline does not progress past 3rd step: ‘Defend the Gate’
1st attempt:
Was in party with another not in instance.
First two steps completed.
Third step ‘Defend the Gate’
Killed first group of risen then no more popped. Went had lunch, came back, ran all around zone to see if something would trigger. Nothing.

Logged out back to char selection screen

2nd attempt.
Dropped party as I thought perhaps this was bugging storyline progression.
First two steps completed.
Third step ‘Defend the Gate’
Risen attacked, NPC’s die. I kill foe to rezz NPC inc. Traherne, they kill a few more risen, more risen pop, NPC’s die, rinse and repeat 3 times. Had to go out so logged.

They have always been slow for me yet noticed the increase too. Just then logged into game, character selection screen loads instantly then to load into LA took over a minute. Changing zones is similar and becoming increasingly annoying.
Gw2 is running on a 7200rpm HD/C drive, which is regularly defragged and has plenty of free space.
There are no problems with other games, video editing or 3D.
Do they really expect everyone to be running SSD’s and Nvidia 6 series cards to play this game?

Apparently Gw2 shaders and atmospheric effects e.g. smoke, rely heavily on DX11. This is why Nvidia pre Series 600 cards are struggling as only 600+ are optimised for DX11.

Is this because of broken active event reported in previous post?
Dialogue: ‘Please, get down there and disable that laboratory!’
Does he refer to the underwater lab through maze even though Heart is completed?

Meant to mention this ages ago with first character through Bloodtide Coast. Humpback whales animation path is not smoothed between waypoints. They jerk around in some very weird ways.
Noticed it with dolphins in this area too where they will be in a static movement path but jerking erratically.

At this event for over an hour. Had two chars attempt to help then leave.
Destroyed two generators.
This should be a ‘group’ event because can’t get close to generators without being swarmed by two to six endless Inquest technicians.
Quest does not ‘fail’ after given time period.

Character race – Asuran
Skill: Phase retreat
Bug: Bounces character under terrain.

First happened after release in Metrica province near Michoan Marsh skillpoint.
Tonight – Bloodtide Coast near Heart ‘Teach Quaggans How to raise crabs’
Both areas swamp/water.
Might be a combination of midgit sized Asura and terrain near water.
Both occurrences have involved those two variables.
Both times had to port out.

Glad to read this info. I also have an Nvidia 550 GTX ti and its been overheating on best settings which is dectected by ‘auto-detect’. I’ve had to reduce settings to best performance with noticeable loss of quality and just been doing some research on it.
The card is fine for video editing and other games, Aion and Gw1, yet with Gw2, fan is running constant 99% and just before temp was up to 80C until l lowered settings again, then instantly drops to 50-60C.
Noticed the load around smoke/particle effects. Water/reflection shaders do not seem to affect it so badly.
As for Black Citadel, it’s crunched my card since beta.

Will be interested to see if there’s a performance gain with new drivers.

@ Nels, yes, thanks for the info. I’ve just actually done some reading into the class and was going to edit or delete post. However, as Anlyon has said, weapon swapping would still be appreciated to save hard swapping. Not good in WvW to be standing around with Hero panel open trying to weap. swap.

And yes, many other priorities right now to get the game mechanics running smootly. I’m sure this would be well down the list.

1. Font change needed.
This has probably been posted, yet font used for text on BLTC is near unreadable.
At least use a Bold on the font. I have two friends who are visually handicapped. I wonder how they manage. Gives me a headache trying to read the level of something. White text is the worst offender.

2. Previews
Where are they? Right click, preview item before purchase. Common sense really.

Suprised these issues have not been fixed already.

Ok without reading all the posts in this thread, my 2c worth. Ele was great in Gw1. Now levelling an ele in Gw2 and a few points have struck me as very unworkable.
1. Weapon swapping – Need different weapons for different situations.
Staff is good for instances, large WvW battles with its AOE skills yet not for 1v1 encounters or solo running. So when running through a Pve area, there may be times when one needs AOE and others where one wants to avoid it. Even mid battle. So does one have to stop each time and manually open Hero panel to swap? Cause that’s what l find myself doing…very unsatisfactory.
So please, bring back weapon swapping!

2. Trait attributes – Traits locked to one element???
C’mon, if we can’t weapon swap then at least make traits adjustable without having to pay each time.
For example, l was just in Kessex Hills, Dominion zone. I have my few traits in fire. Mobs are Immune to Burning’. Do l have to leave, spend kinah to go to a town, respec traits, go back to do area and SP? Makes no sense.

I loved my ele in Gw1, yet atm l am thinking that this character may not go too far. Certainly in WvW ele’s seem OP, yet so far, compared to my other light armor characters, survivability is bad in fire, and swapping to another element while traits are all in fire for e.g. is not effective. Maybe it gets better at higher levels, she is only going 30 atm.

It’s commendable that Arenanet actually provides ways to report bots and RMT spammers and is actively working on the issues.
It’s a refreshing change to the platitudes offered by NcSoft Aion. They actually removed ingame ways of reporting RMT and bot activity and the game has now degenerated into an RMT/bot fest with world chat continuously spammed by them.

Seemed to be around NPC’s.
