I am on one of the servers that farms this event (or attempts to) and in the guild that is usually responsible for starting it. I realize that for a lot of people it seems unfair that we ask them not to kill the giant, which in turn delays the opening of the Arah dungeon, but you need to take a minute to look at it from our perspective as well.
We’re a huge PvE guild that focuses on group activities. We were a large part of the other significant farm locations (Union, etc). Time and time again we’ve seen every viable farm location nerfed into the ground, leaving only CoF and CoE as steady sources of gold farming. And really, who wants to run one of those dungeons for the thousandth time?
So what do we do? We look for events such as this one that have high amounts of mobs to kill which drop good loot (bags, t6, rares, etc). When we find one we get our entire guild together, run the event through its pre-event chain, and start farming.
Unfortunately this event shows up on the gw2stuff world boss list for the High Wizard. So what happens is our guild puts a good hour into the pre events to start the farming, then as soon as it appears on the site tons of randoms show up to get their daily loot chest. They start auto attacking the giant and we kindly ask them to stop and farm with us for awhile or simply hop to another server if they’re looking to do Arah. But no, they instead tell us to kitten off and continue killing the giant.
So it goes both ways. We realize that this event more than likely isn’t meant to be farmed and that people want to complete it. But at the same time we’re the ones putting all the work into setting it up for us and others who want to farm. The giant will die in time from the NPCs attacking it, stray AOEs, and so on. Just give us our hour or two of farming before that happens
I came here expecting something exciting. I guess the aliens got him o_O
What? Your kudzu shoots baby kudzus? Madness.
I only know Christmas music
I do think off hand weapons should get a cosmetic boost though, why are they the same grind but half of the result?
Some of the one-handed weapons look quite nice though. I’m a huge fan of Quip but do not use pistol on any of my toons.
We have had this thread dozens of times.
Things won’t get changed unless we constantly remind Anet of what we want though
tl;dr is at the bottom but I encourage you to take the time to read my and what I know to be many other peoples’ story.
After an incredibly lucky forging of 4 random rares, tons of event farming and CoF p1 runs, millions of karma spent and world boss farming every night I am finally drawing near to the crafting of Frostfang. I’ve never really wanted to make a legendary, but when the forge gave me a precursor I wasn’t even trying for I figured why not. Now that I am less than 200g away in mats from crafting Frostfang I can’t ignore this melancholy feeling that is growing inside me. I’ve put so much work into this “Legendary” weapon and have had help and encouragement from so many people, yet I know that as soon as I equip it, if i equip it, I will be let down. Why, you might ask? Because I’ve previewed Frostfang and have seen it in enough videos to know that it is visually lacking compared to some of the other, more impressive-looking weapons such as the greatswords, pistol, shortbow, and dagger.
Don’t get me wrong, the weapon itself looks fine and all… but it’s effects. Or lack of effects, rather. Currently Frostfang has the following effects: icy hand (only in main hand and only when drawn), the “mouth” on the axe opens and closes (hardly noticeable) and breathes a few ice particles, enemies killed by Frostfang have ice death animations, and the wielder leaves behind icy footsteps. Apart from the footsteps, I personally don’t think Frostfang can be justified as an “epic BiS legendary hellgrind weapon.” People would seriously be better off just going and buying the corrupted axe. The weapons and particles themselves look nearly the same.
And I’m not just saying all of this because it’s the legendary I’m personally going for. Look at the other legendaries. There are clearly ones that have received much more love and design work than others. How can legendaries such as the Minstrel even be called “legendary” when compared to weapons such as Twilight, Juggernaut, or even Predator. Let’s take a look at some of the “better” legendaries:
Twilight – amazing skin, body glow, noticeable footsteps, light blast when drawn, attack swing paint, sparkle particles, and whatever else I can’t remember of the top of my head.
Quip – unique sound effects and attack animation, confetti when drawn, body glow, footsteps, alters skill animations (engi for example)
Juggernaut – metal body coating, silver spills from weapon, footsteps, silver in weapon moves around, etc
Now some of the legendaries that I and others believe are lacking:
Minstrel – occasionally.. occasionally music notes are heard and seen around it. The skin looks like crap. That is all. Why anybody would make or buy this I do not know.
Meteorlogicus – the weapon itself looks great and has a nice glow to it. However, no footsteps, no body glow, no altered skill animations
Rodgort – basically the same as what I described for Frostfang but with fire rather than ice.
I realize this post is getting rather long so I’ll get to the point. Anet, PLEASE put some more work into the legendaries. What you did for the Greatswords, pistol, and a few others in the update a month or so ago was great for anyone with those weapons, but the ones you neglected are in some serious need of love as well. It doesn’t take much: a nice body glow here, a few footsteps or particles there. When I finally equip my first legendary I want to FEEL like I’m a legend, like I can display all those hours and hard work I put into it simply by whipping out my weapon for others to see. Until then, poor little Frostfang will either sit in my bank collecting dust or go to the highest bidder. Maybe I’ll look into an exotic such as Mjolnir or Infinite Light which costs half as much money and takes half the time to make yet currently looks better than the majority of legendary weapons.
Discuss.
it’s technically not out of bounds. there is a path you can take to get there. you can swim right up to them easily enough. it’s not like you’re glitching to get out of the map.
The part I saw was open water. How did you find a path in open water? Did you just swim along the boundary until you found a hole in it?
it’s still in open water. i just swam until the current didnt push me back. theres quite a few spots you can swim through. if you put 10 minutes into it you can find a path pretty easily.
The difference is, this area is out of bounds and totally unintended.

You can still get there.
So my necro just hit level 80 and I’m in love with it. Unfortunately I crafted about 30 of those levels so I lost a pretty good chunk of play/learning time. My question is this: what are some good armor stats to get for necros? With so many different good build types it seems so hard to pick something versatile. I don’t want to be the guy with 3 different exotic armor sets for different builds. My thoughts so far:
Power/Toughness/Vit – Rather beefy with good amount of direct damage. Good for wells and d/d I’d assume
Power/Condition damage/Toughness – Bit more versatility between direct damage and condition damage and still some added armor in there.
Condition Damage/Condition duration/(Power/Toughness) – Since most necro skills, even those that deal direct damage, normally have some sort of condition on them, why not capitalize on that? Assuming this would be good for “conditionmancers”
Honestly almost any armor set I can name would have its pros and cons for a necro. Just having difficulty figuring out what would be best. What armor sets do you guys run on your necros?
Also, what are some common build for necros in dungeons? People normally just run wellomancer or conditionmancer? Or more survivability/support? Thanks.
Is the only real reason people even go for precision is to capitalize on the traits that proc conditions on crits?
Hmm I guess I never thought about going power/condition damage in the same set. That seems like it would be really versatile. Then just add something like toughness or vitality if a set like that exists.
I just hit 80 on my necro and I’m trying to decide what armor set/stats I want to get for my first set of exotics. I’ve tried various necro builds such as MM, conditions, wells, etc. so I have a good idea of the versatility. My goal is to not have to make 3 or 4 different exotic sets for each build I run, I’d really just like 1 or 2 that are pretty versatile.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about power/toughness/vitality, and some of the better necros I know say that berserker’s power/precision/crit dmg is surprisingly good especially in wvw.
I’ll mainly be doing dungeons and wvw in this gear. Just want to hear your guys’ input
Any way to talk 1 on 1 with an Anet mod? I accidentally found a major bug involving the clock tower jump puzzle. I filed an in game report but I’m not sure how fast those get processed. I don’t want to post it because it could be exploited.

Just my personal opinions of the Halloween event up to Act 3. Not trying to hate/praise Anet, rant, or piss anyone off. Just my personal opinions. Feel free to comment
Pros:
-Love the scavenger hunts. Instead of using a guide I recommend doing them solely based on the clues. Very fun and the two books are a cool idea for back piece skins.
-I really like the Mad King’s clock tower jump puzzle. I understand that it frustrates many people who either physically cannot do it due to age/medical reasons or because their computers are lacking in speed and graphics. My FPS, however, is not that high even when on the lowest graphics settings and I still managed to complete it after about 2 hours of trying. I really enjoy a good challenge and it’s very rewarding when you finally accomplish something so hard.
-I like some of the Halloween weapon skins. Especially the shield with its particle effects. The greatsaw greatsword is okay but not really worth the price. I would also LOVE the scythe if it weren’t so plain and didn’t cause two scythe blades when being used on a necro staff.
-The Mad King emerging from the LA statue was pretty cool, and the dungeon that followed is fun and appropriate for all levels. I cleared it maybe 10-15 times. Even managed to solo it once.
-The costume brawl has been really fun for me. That being said I own the Mad King costume which, I’ll admit, is a little OP, but fun nevertheless.
Cons:
-Right off the bat I did not like the whole getting unique halloween skins from the chests idea. From the spending real money on keys to the disappointing chances of actually getting a skin, I was just disappointed with the whole thing. I understand Anet needs to make money but I’m sure they made more than enough through people buying costumes and whatnot. Just a bit unfair that all the cool skins people actually want are so expensive. I managed to save up for a shield, which I bought, and am now saving for a scythe, but I basically had to spend all the money I’ve been saving for t3 cultural armor as well as sell tons of mats I was going to use for crafting.
-I did not like the lack of explanation on the halloween achievements/challenges. I was often very confused as to what was currently available and what was yet to be released. I’m the type of person who has to achieve everything as soon as it’s released, so that just bugged me a bit.
-I’m disappointed that the “one time event” was a 30 second cutscene that I could have watched on youtube rather than having to leave work early for. I was even more disappointed that we didn’t receive some sort of special item for being there, which was basically why I left early to get there. The Mad King instance made up for this a bit, but the reward was rather lacking. I was expecting to get some sort of cool crown or armor skin from the chest after killing him and only got a 10 slot bag. To make it worse, I did it on my main character who already has 15 slot bags. I put it in my bank to transfer it to a different character who could actually use it only to find it was soulbound. Seriously? What a waste of a reward item.
-Like I said, I completed and enjoyed the clock tower JP, but feel really bad for the people who won’t get the achievement for it just because their computers are not good enough or they don’t have the skill/capability to complete it. And as others have said, it would have been much better as a solo or party only instance so you can actually see where you’re jumping half the time.
-I do not like that the second part of the scavenger hunt is in higher-level places such as sparkfly den. I realize people have been doing this successfully on characters as low as level 5 or 6, but it takes a lot of time and group effort to do this. And when 5/6 of my characters are under level 15, it’s a pain to try and do it on all of them.
That’s about all I got for now guys. Ended up a bit longer than I would have liked but I really wanted to express my opinions. Feel free to share yours as well.
TL;DR: Shut up and read a few of my points and comment :P
The achievement is in the community section
I’m aware of that. I’m saying when I first looked under the community achievements tab and saw the King of the Costume Brawl challenge I could have sworn that it awarded a title for maxing it out (tier 12/12). Yet when I completed it I didn’t get a title and when I went back to see what was up it wasn’t there anymore, as though it magically disappeared. I don’t know maybe I was just seeing things.
Maybe I’m going crazy but early this morning when the event first started I could have sworn the achievement “King of the Costume Brawl” had a crown in the little box to the right of it as though you earn a title for achieving the max rank (500 streaks). This was the main reason I bought the Mad King Thorn outfit and spent hours and hours brawling to achieve. Once I hit 500 streaks I was shocked to see that I didn’t earn a title, or even any progress towards the Emissary of the Mad King title. Is it just me or was there a title for the brawling during the first hour or two of the event?
