Change daily achievements to weekly achievements

Do you know what the reward is for completing the daily?

It is some experience points and 1 mystic coin. That coin is worth 2 silver right now, and as time goes on they will probably get cheaper.

You can trivially earn the 12 silver in a single weekend play session to “make up for” the 6 mystic coins you missed out on. They aren’t soulbound. The experience points? I’d make an argument that if you don’t have the time to play the game, you didn’t earn that small experience point boost. You’ll only level at a slightly slower rate than people who are playing daily, from an XP per hour basis.

The other rewards from the daily are random and they can be bought in the gem store.

In short, the daily rewards are not very big, and they really don’t merit a nerf to week-long achievements. You aren’t missing out on anything that takes more than a few minutes of gameplay to gain.

Let me dye more things

I really like the wide variety of dyes to collect. I want more things to use them on!

In GW1, we could dye our bags. Perhaps, in that same spirit, you could offer us the option to dye other elements of the game besides our clothes and armor.

I think the weapons should be off-limits for dyes, as they really aren’t designed with dying in mind and they already look amazing.

However, perhaps we could have the ability to dye our UI. This could include our bags, our hero window, and so on. Perhaps, in a much more ambitious project, this could also include dying objects in “home” instances. Certain pets might be amenable to custom dye jobs.

I would pay money (gems) for the ability to use more of my dyes on nearly any plausible thing.

The Curse of Gatherless Professions.

It’s a drop rate issue, not a mechanics issue. There’s plenty of leather around and it’s got the same gathering mechanism. They just need to tweak the drop rates and drop tables a bit.

How hard is it to get jute from faction right now? I haven’t checked it since the release day, when there was no TP for a serious price comparison and you could still salvage without an intermediate trip to the forge.

Overwhelming Threat Issues

in Guardian

Why shouldn’t I be able to roll a greatsword dps?

You have a weapon swap button for a reason. You are intended to use it, frequently, in combat. In a dungeon, either drop back to range until your next greatsword leap of faith cooldown is up, or swap to a defensive build until your greatsword whirling wrath & leap of faith cooldowns are up.

Your other group mates are also weapon-swapping too, if they’re doing it right. The classes without weapon swap are swapping other things – engineers are kit swapping, elementals are attunement swapping.

If you’re not weapon swapping in a dungeon, you’re probably doing it wrong – no matter what profession you are.

What you shouldn’t have to do is flail around in your bags frequently for a 3rd or 4th weapon combination. I think many guardian weapon combos are good enough to be your 2nd choice in a dungeon, so I don’t really see a problem there with a lack of options.

Can you please buff the scepter?

in Guardian

Posted by: Sparkie.3465

Sparkie.3465

I feel like the scepter auto-attack could use some pizazz, because it does take forever to solo something with it compared to the greatsword. Maybe a condition application (maybe every 2nd or 3rd hit so we’re not getting out of hand) would help.

My biggest weapon beef is actually with the torch & sword. I assume you’re intended to pair them together for some sort of DPS, since the torch doesn’t pair well with anything else. I love the idea of a flaming, wrathful guardian but the abilities just don’t seem very good. The sword+ torch is lackluster compared to other options for damage output, for applying conditions, for PVP. It doesn’t have any real group play bonus (that torch cleanse thing? Cone effects are terrible for healing abilities, it will only ever hit allies on accident). What was this weapon supposed to be for, exactly? Showing off our fire-breathing animation at the trading post?

Maybe a change to the torch could end up being an indirect buff to the scepter. Make it something ranged, something that is PVP viable. Long cooldown fire AoE, molotov-kittentail style on button 5. Gap-widener on button 4, maybe a flaming knockback effect (charrzooka style, #2 or #4, but obviously much less powerful damage and limited or no AoE).

Guild capacity

They may have caps on the guild size because they plan to implement guild-based competitions, and they want to keep it somewhat competitive. GW1 had areas you could claim for your guild. GW2 has areas in WvW that you can claim already, and I expect they may add more. They probably want to keep your enormous guild from being able to claim every neat thing on the server. At minimum, the separate branches of your guild will need to vie with each other to claim dominance.

Jump puzzles are amazing

Just watch out for the gate puzzle in Metrica Province. I nearly pulled out my hair in frustration because of it.

I liked that one, too. Died several times on roots, and it took me quite a while to figure out that blowing air is bad, but it was fun and I was able to repeat it without any deaths the next day. I was happy to find the owner of the floating lab qualifies as a boss event at the end (someone had already killed him the first time I completed the puzzle).

Once, I fell onto the Inquest lab’s roof instead of landing back at the start of the puzzle. I’m not quite sure how that happened, or why I survived the fall, but it was interesting to explore the translucent bridges up there.

Why I think that crafting is broken

in Crafting

Sparkie.3465

So most professions have something other than the very obvious items that you can also discover. For artifice, it’s the potions – a cheap way to level. For the armor-related crafts, it’s the sigils. Jewelcrafting is pure straightforward, once you realize you can replace gems with jewels in any recipe. Looks like weaponsmithing and huntsman also have sigils and one or two buff items that they can make.

Since you could be making yourself 5-10 sigils for each set of gear, plausibly, I think you could actually level with only things you use (or very few wasted items).

Y’all know that you can salvage the crap stuff you make to get part of your materials back, too, right?

I just did Weyandt’s Revenge jump puzzle in Lion’s Arch, and it was amazing fun. I never thought that I would enjoy goofy jump puzzles in an MMO, but I was so wrong. Cheers and mad props to the folks who designed these.

I also picked up a pirate sword at the end off the vendor, just for a piece of puzzle memorabilia.

Legendary weapons, Mystic Clover and 2 million karma

It sounds to me like you had better go convince your guild mates to craft clovers for you, as long as they aren’t soul bound or account bound. You do know that this is a social game, right? It’s an MMO, not a single player endeavor. Have them make clovers with you until you have enough. It should go much faster that way. Especially with guild karma banners. As if they planned it this way all along.

Yes, the grind would suck, if you had no friends.

Make gathering tools account-bound

in Suggestions

Posted by: Sparkie.3465

Sparkie.3465

It seems to me that if salvage kits are account-bound, gathering tools should be as well. It’s rather annoying to have a half-used copper axe when you’re headed out to the zones that need iron tools. I’d really like to just put the copper tool in my bank and take it out on any character that happens to be heading to a newbie zone. Instead, it’s souldbound to the specific character that bought it. I understand you don’t want to create a market for the gathering tools, but having them be account-bound would satisfy that concern and be slightly more pleasant for players. I’m not sure what downsides there really are for this other than that it would free up a small bit of storage space.

This is especially annoying with the tools that come out of black lion chests. Those are nice tools, so I don’t want to accidentally soul-bind them to my alt who won’t be using them for quite a long time when my main could use them immediately, so I end up swapping characters to my main whenever I get a black lion key. I know that this problem is somewhat ameliorated by being able to use the high-end tools on alts in WvW, but I’m pretty sure you don’t really want me to bring my not-even-slightly-PVP-oriented alt into WvW just to use some black lion gathering tools and then leave. That behavior isn’t particularly helpful toward the WvW PVP efforts and it’s annoying for me as well.

Is Gambling Allowed?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sparkie.3465

Sparkie.3465

Look, there are laws about gambling. Very detailed, heavily enforced laws in most of the US. That’s because there is tremendous money to be made in gambling.

Other countries also have laws about gambling. The thing is, with an MMO, the MMO has to honor the gambling rules of every single country it runs in. Usually, the easiest way to do that is to disallow gambling explicitly. If they don’t have a specific rule, then that is probably due to their inability to imagine a way for you to gamble in the game (I admit, I’m scratching my head too and I can’t imagine what you have in mind).

If you just want to get your gamble on, head over to the cattlepult in Diessa Plateau. You can bet some money on where the cows will land. Otherwise, please go gamble elsewhere., somewhere that supports it and where it is unlikely to have unexpected negative consequences.

Can't find Chili Peppers/Vanilla since cooking change

I get dramatically more chilis now. I have tons of chilis off gathering nodes. I’m primarily in level 15-25 zones. I think they’re coming of the “herb” nodes but I admit I don’t fully remember. Never saw them at all before that patch.

I also got vanilla beans as a rare drop for the first time. That was most certainly off a herb node, as I did a double-take when I saw the new (to me) cooking ingredient.

All of these were with iron tool harvests. Think I got some of the chilis in the area right outside Lion’s Arch too, but I’m not 100% positive.

Maybe the just moved the chilis and vanillas to low-level places away from high-level places?

Do Mesmers get any better?

in Mesmer

Sparkie.3465

I think the class has serious issues at lower levels. I decided to try it up to level 10 after playing a guardian, elementalist, and thief a fair amount (levels 38, 21, and 12 right now).

I didn’t make it to level 10. I may not ever make it to level 10.

It’s much rougher at the low levels than the other classes. Maybe the abilities scale poorly at the start (that was my main feeling). Maybe the abilities just take too long on the learning curve. Maybe it is too squishy and ought to get a different armor class. Maybe the default heal just isn’t scaled right or designed well.

Before even touching this class, I managed to get acceptable at kiting with the elementalist and the rogue. The guardian taught me the importance of dodging. I even went out of my way to try to read up on how to play mesmers before I touched them, so I have a decent idea of the shatter mechanic.

Playing around in the Norn starter zone was terrible. I made an effort to unlock everything, and I never expected that to go smoothly. I did the full elemental on all the attunements, so I’m used to unlocking weapon abilities and having that be a bit sub-par. But past that? I still have no idea how to reasonably play the class in PVE. Double swords seems to kill things the best in the starter area, and requires no special finesse but also lacks compared to other classes I’ve played. The greatsword damage output was so low that I don’t understand the point of the weapon at all (I’m sure someone thought it was cute to make it distance-dependent – it’s not). I’m fond of the pistol but I don’t know what to pair it with, I suppose it requires a scepter pairing. I hate the scepter. My view may be colored by the initial starter scepter being especially weak, but having it take ages to kill a level 2 while I’m unlocking abilities was just stupid. The staff is fun, for sure, but it doesn’t seem to have a reliable snare.

The clones are neat, but they take forever to run into range for a shatter so I end up missing that frequently. I don’t appear to have any way to handle multiple mobs whatsoever. I’m probably screwing that up somehow, but I don’t really know what I am supposed to do for multiple-target fights other than run in circles while trying to down them one by one. I had the hardest time I have ever had in low-level story quests with this profession because I don’t understand how to handle multiple mobs with it.

I gave up at level 9 because I can’t see the class ever being better than the elementalist in PVE in any way. I’ll use the thief for PVP if I take interest in it. I really wanted to like the class when I picked it up. It beat me, I don’t understand it, and I’m putting it back down.

Help! My interest is falling :S

What’s your played time? Did you get at least as much entertainment in hours per dollars as a movie? As an average single-player game?

It’s not a subscription game, guys. It’s a free-to-play. If you’re done with it, then put it down. Come back when there’s a major content patch or an expansion. Come back if a friend picks it up and you’d like to play together for a bit. Come back if you feel like rerolling a character with a different race/personal story/profession.

You don’t have to log in every day. You aren’t supposed to have to log in every day. You’re welcome to do so if you’re enjoying it. But if you’re done, it’s okay to put it down. Just keep your login details someplace where you can access them if you change your mind later.

Heritage Armor

Just so you know, it isn’t really a PVE armor set. It’s a skin for PVE. I haven’t tried sPVP yet, but I would assume that the sPVP armor set has identical stats to normal sPVP armor, but a special skin.

Once I figured that out, I never bothered with the HOM item rewards. The mini-pets would be nice eventually, but skins don’t matter to me while I’m still leveling.

Should I invest in the 18 slot bags? D:

in Players Helping Players

Sparkie.3465

There are intermediate bag sizes that you could buy for cheap off the TP as people level their crafting professions. 8 to 18 seems like a big leap right now, especially with bags available on the TP for prices below the raw material cost.

You could also use that gold to buy gems and get more bag or bank slots.

karma vs Healing

I think it would be a smart move to consider the amount of healing done in the event zone towards the goal for events. Reviving is a form of healing, so this would help people who revive as well. My guardian has a similar problem if I shift him into a tanky build to take big hits from veterans or event bosses – I tend to get silvers if I do that.

Seems silly that for many events, I can get a bronze for walking by it and making zero contribution or a bronze for full-out supporting during the event. It should be worth at least a silver.

On my ele, I tend to stick with fire for events. If a player is downed, I swap to water long enough to drop a geyser on him and then go back to fire immediately.

Are there any viable healing professions?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sparkie.3465

Sparkie.3465

I think you should take a hard look at all of the classes. Guardians have a lot of support abilities that I personally enjoy, but there are several different types of support in this game. Some of the support abilities of the other classes don’t provide direct heals, but they do provide valuable buffs and debuffs. I’ve personally been surprised at the number of times I’ve been reliant on necros for support. They provide some light healing as well as lots of debuffs. They place traps on the ground that do crazy things. As a guardian, I always enjoy running into one because they make my life as a melee player much easier. I’m told that other professions also have neat support abilities or builds too.

hit box: inanimate objects

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Sparkie.3465

Generally, the hit boxes for inanimate objects seem to be too small (or oddly positioned). By inanimate objects, I’m referring to various barriers, barricades, doors, supplies, mining drills, siege weapons, and so on that you are supposed to destroy in PVE events or at heart objectives. To clarify, I never have any trouble hitting these with ranged abilities, but I have lots of trouble hitting them with melee abilities. Some objects are more difficult than others.

Last night I was exploring Diessa Plateau and had this difficulty repeatedly on my charr guardian with melee weapons across the whole zone. I’ve had similar problems in other zones and with other professions, but this zone & profession combo make the problem highly visible. There is an event at Bloodcliff Quarry where the bug is easily tested, where you are supposed to destroy mining drills. I was standing on the drills and running around them to try to find a point where I could hit them. There was only one narrow, unintuitive spot by the drill where I could stand and still deal damage to it. Doors and walls pose a similar problem – the hit box appears to be located too deep within the door, or too high up, so that they are very difficult (impossible?) to melee from certain sides and you have to swap to a ranged weapon in order to break them.

Please tweak the hit boxes on these to more closely match the actual object. It seems a bit silly to run around looking for one sweet spot to melee a huge inanimate object.

minor bug: colors in character creation

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Sparkie.3465

Sparkie.3465

In the character creation interface, colors are not always assigned unique names.

For example, I was picking colors for the eyes of a female Asuran (thief, if it matters). Two distinct shades of blue were both named “light blue” and two different shades of green were named “pale green.” It confused me briefly when I was trying to return to a particular color that I liked, but selected the other pale green instead.

It’s a very minor issue, but you could probably just steal color names from the wide array of dyes to fix it. I did not check to see if the issue is more widespread across character creation or just specific to this one step of female Asuran eye customization.
