I’m still fuzzy on how outfits are supposed to work. Can they be used in battle? Can they be left on and worn forever? I ask this because frankly if I’m going to spend $20 so my Sylvari can finally have a new pretty flower dress (Seriously? I only get 4 whole armors to pick from??), I want to make sure I can wear it during standard gameplay.
I love Guild Wars 2 because of the art direction.
But Honestly? what I’m most excited about is that after 3 years of playing the game I can quest for my precursor and finally complete my Bifrost staff.
Even 10 gold an hour works out at slave labour..
Oh my gods. This. So much this.
I have a question about the new system for getting a precursor. Namely, is it going to require completion/progress of the story in Heart of Thorns? I would really like to be able to actually enjoy using a legendary (Bifrost) during the new story content rather than have to wait until it is finished before the precursor quest(s) open up. So I need to plan accordingly.
I hope this isn’t too much of a spoiler to ask, but can someone please let me know if this can be completed without doing more than a negligible amount of HoT story mode?
What burned you out last time? That might impact suggestions.
I will take to heart your suggestions, and did want to reply to your opening question:
What burned me out was literally the grind for money. I was playing during the height of the farm nerfs and diminishing returns sillyness, so it felt like there was this big hammer that would flatten me every time I found something doable. And by doable I mean not an entirely soul-crushing emotional and mental drain as I slowly eke out money and/or materials. In the end my quest ended with 135 Gold in bank, 125 or so Ecto, and about 100 of every Tier 6 material. All other gifts/shards/clovers/etc done. And no precursor.
I still want to shoot Rainbows. I really, really do. But it got to the point where I was logging in just to grind. So needed to step away from that.
Only get Mawdrey if you have gold to burn and want that ascended backpiece. Eating dust will get you mostly random junk and the occasional green. I wouldn’t get it for that reason.
Gemstore wise for QOL purchases, it’s generally recommended you buy the copper fed salvage. If they ever sell the Royal Terrace pass again, I recommend that.
Look into getting Princess if you don’t have it already and the Star of Gratitude if they bring that back next Wintersday.
I actually do have a Star of gratitude! It was an odd bit of “FINE! I’ll play, but I’m only going to do wintersday stuff!!” ;3
I’ll look into getting a Princess, thanks
I just want more Sylvari themed outfits. Everyone should wear more flowers!
If they are Sylvari. :p
You haven’t lived until you’ve seen a Female Charr in a baby blue colored Light Twilight Arbor armor skin.
Don’t do anything you don’t think is fun!
It sort of comes from my intense desire to fling rainbows at people, and such led into my oft-failed quest to build a Bifrost.
Mawdrey looks like it’s mostly LW2 completion with a bit of RNG. Is there anything I need to look out for?
Any recommendations for getting back into the game? I burned out while trying to build a legendary and it started to feel more like work than a game for me to farm. (Seriously, I’ve played on/off since launch. RNG apparently hates me. Whatever).
So I’m trying to get back into the game. I’ve bought the living world packs and I’m working my way through those currently. Any quality of life/sanity suggestions? Things I should work towards to get more out of my game? For one, I think I need to start towards a Mawdrey since I have 5k in dust.

As a player who struggles to get things done, I can see the appeal to this. It’s an easy out for X piece of content that could finally be put behind me and I can move on to other things and stay interested in the game.
But! As a player who struggles to get things done, I can also see the PROBLEMS with this. It puts a dent in the experienced playerbase willing to do PUG. After all, say I’m awesome at content X why do a PUG when I could get PAID for it? Why aren’t you paying me? 15g?? 15g isn’t enough. I have stuff to buy! I need 20g. Etc.. etc. And any time there’s gold being slung around, that inflation creep sets in. I look at 15 gold and my eyes nearly pop out of my head. I’ve never seen that much money at one time. But for some players? That’s pocket change. There are players reading this right now who have 150G in their “walking around money” etc etc..
Now that fractals are in place, there seems to be more “Hard” content. Content that you need “dedicated” players on as the difficulty ramps. That’s awesome. Hopefully with that in place, they can do the reverse for dungeons, and figure out a way to do some sort of selectable or sliding-scale difficulty for them. Who knows. Where was I going with this? Oh yea.
TL/DR: I can see both sides of the argument on this.
Also? 15g? Holy crap. Someone PM me how to legitimately make more than 1-2g a day o_o;;
I think as long as the payment for services is using in-game currency then it is not Bannable. The moment where it’s in the real life money or stuff territory it’s against the rules. Don’t ever talk about, or accept IRL bribes or payment and I think you should be fine.
But this game and its rules are wierd sometimes. It clearly punishes players for “doing it wrong” but doesn’t do much in the way of telling players how to “do it properly” in-game. Stay smart. I guess.
Bring every single equipable weapon into a dungeon run, especially one that you or your party do not know well yet. Most weapons have some utility that may have a niche use that may save your party!
I generally try to also bring along a couple of unbound weapons, like Focus, Staff, Scepter in case a party member forgot to bring one and needs it for situational skill X.
You’re getting The Bifrost on a necro? That’s cool, didn’t think a necro would want The Bifrost.
It is pretty! It sparkes and has rainbows! It would only be better if it shot Unicorns! (any interpetation of that sentance is fine by me)
First off, If you are going for a legendary, you are not a casual player.
Hooray Semmantics. By casual I mean my playtime has dropped from 30-40 hours a week to 9-12.
Pretty much I log in, find an Arah group then log out when they /ragequit. And yes, this is all PUG. I don’t have a guild/friends willing to do Dungeons.
Lupus is fine, don’t touch him.
Counterpoint: I will send cake to any Anet programmer that nerfs that fight.
Or doughnuts! Pies? Perhaps some Pizza?
Frankly I think one time events should be not an event that is linked to a specific date and time, but a specific event that occours within a window that can be qued up for and run once successfully.
The lost shores finale was pretty neat. But it was also lag-heavy and people dropped, etc. If that was an event that people could que up for say.. Every 50,100,#### people or whatever ques up and the event runs. If you complete it great! You can’t que up for it anymore. If you need to disconnect? Come back in a couple of hours and que up again.
Apologies if this has already been suggested/rejected.
Discuss the recent patch here.
Dear Anet: I will send you a cake if you nerf the Giganticus Lupicus. Seriously. Look at the Data. How many teams get up to that point then quit? And how many HOURS do they normally invest into the dungeon before giving up?
just run path 3 it’s an absolute minimum of 60 tokens per day, more if you get the bags or run it later on with a different character.
path 3 is incredibly easy all you need to know is how to handle lupus.
Sure. And, how do you handle lupus exactly? Because I just spent another 3 hours in Arah and most of it was on Lupus until leader ragequit which reset the dungeon.
We: Stacked for phase 1. Only used ranged. No pets. At all.
Then: We ran like hell during Phase 2, doing damage occasionally until eventually we’d get picked off one by one from dodging out of a cicrle into another one, or not seeing when you’re getting ambushed etc.
Seriously. People. If Arah is SO EASY, why don’t you run me through it? Name the time and I’m there. Name your price. I can stomp ANY other dungeon with NO problem.
Take a look at all the things you are going to need for a legendary.
500 tokens, no matter how ‘unfun’ the dungeon is, will be your smallest concern.
I used to think that. But I’ve sank a crazy number of hours into this Dungeon with one actual completion. 500 tokens may as well be 5000 tokens at this rate. At this point I’m just not as interested in the game as I used to be, because of the grind/fail/repeat.
TL/DR Arah being a terrible experience is why I have immensely cut back on my GW2 playtime.
I have a Sylvari Necromancer. And because I have a staff using Sylvari Necromancer, I want her to be the prettiest princess of all of Tyria. This means that for her staff, I really should work towards the Bifrost. It’s awesome.
But then I started (trying) to run the Arah explore paths for my 500 Zaithan tokens that I’ll need to craft. Know what? That Dungeon is NOT FUN. I try to stay interested, but it’s just not happening. Why? Because fighting the same class of enemies I’ve pretty much been neck deep in since level 60, who are exceedingly hard in my experience compared to the enemies in the other dungeons. The bosses (when not bugged) are fights of attrition, and the Dungeon paths are too long compared to the rewards.
Yes, YMMV and all that. I get that you want Arah to be the super hard dungeon. So.. why have Legendary components linked to it? Or, if you want Legendary components to be linked to it, why not make ALL legendary weapons require the 500 Zaithan shards?
I’m soo tired of this dungeon. Most runs I’ve done on this dungeon fail due to either player /ragequit or whatever bug of the week. (Did they fix the immortal priestess?) I have 72 Shards. Whee!
I really would like to be able to make a Mini for each of my character slots without having to spend $$ on gems, or give up what little gold I’ve been able to scrape together in the game so far.
I’m a casual player. I was excited about the idea of running the Dungeon as a daily until I got all the stuff I needed to have each of my characters equipped with a toy. Now, it doesn’t seem like there’s any good reason for the event to last as long as it is. With no tangible reward, the replay value of the events drop and I go back to the usual grind.
