Sounds like a power delivery issue. Does it happen with other games? Particularly ones that stress your CPU/GPU? If you haven’t tried, you can use a stress test… e.g. run Prime 95 and Furmark simultaneously.
Most likely culprit is your PSU… either because it’s old, or you recently upgraded your components and it cannot handle the new load.
It only happens with Guild Wars 2, oddly enough. I’ve not heard of Prime 95 or Furmark before.

I’m currently at a loss. Even after updating all of my drivers, Guild Wars 2 completely shuts off my computer at random. No error messages pop up. No disc recovery/improper shutdown warnings on reboot. I am at a complete loss as what to do now.
No matter how I approach the mission, no matter how long or short I take, I am disconnected from server at a random part during this story mission. I can play the game for hours and never get a disconnection, but in this mission? Disconnects.
I’m on my 7th? Attempt now. I would very much like to be able to continue the story.
You really expected to get the precursor for only doing challenges and not investing gold by mats ? O.o
The devs already said before releasing it they dont want to crash precursors/forge and thats the right/good way!
The devs were exceedingly vague about it for a while. And during that period several of us bought into the lie. Heck originally the whole thing was supposed to be account-bound. And it was only later revealed that the /new/ ones were account bound.
I’ve not finished a collection yet, but from the sound of it, it’s more like “here’s a scavenger hunt (the crust of the pie) and beneath that crust… voila! More of the stuff you said you didn’t want.”
Yep. I wish I hadn’t spent mastery points on the first two lines before discovering this. Now not only do I have an aborted attempt at a Precursor craft, I also get to bear the weight of having less Mastery Points to work with.
There are more points available than things to spend it on.
Some of them are a pain to get though, depending on what you completed prior to HoT. Some of are even bugged, from what I am told.
Yup! Some of them just aren’t awarding. If I didn’t go the Legendary route, I would have had exact change to complete Pact Leader & Fractals.
Have you traveled back in time recently?
I’ve not finished a collection yet, but from the sound of it, it’s more like “here’s a scavenger hunt (the crust of the pie) and beneath that crust… voila! More of the stuff you said you didn’t want.”
Yep. I wish I hadn’t spent mastery points on the first two lines before discovering this. Now not only do I have an aborted attempt at a Precursor craft, I also get to bear the weight of having less Mastery Points to work with.
And here lies the dilemma with Legendary item crafting: It’s such a long, tiring, grindy experience, so much so that it’s off-putting.
This is why I’m going to save money and outright buy Eternity (or any other Legendary/Precursor/Hard-to-get item for that matter) off the TP.
“But then it won’t feel like an adventure, and the hard work, and yadda, yadda, yadda…”
Oh, there’ll be hard work. In the form of my job and having the paychecks roll in. It’s a goal I have, and I’ll work for it. Simple.
Why all this? Cause one thing is a month or two of reasonable, yet understandably challenging tasks, and another is several months/upwards of a year of excruciating grinding and time-consumption. If I had the time to play GW2 all day, then I probably would’ve taken on the challenge, but I don’t.
I’m not asking for a Legendary/(insert rare item here) today. But I don’t want it five months from now, either.
When does waiting becomes waiting for too long? That’s the question. There’s a boundary where the whole experience becomes off-putting. If players do not enjoy something, or rather, if an activity does not provide pleasure, then people will simply shy away from it. I’m not asking for 100% enjoyment, but rather 70% or 60%. What’s sad is that the percentage is far, far lower than that.
OMG So much this. +1000

It has been out for less than a week. Did people really expect to just be able to bang out Dusk in five days?
speed is only one factor of many in this equation. I dont think OP was thinking he could do it in less then 5 days. I think he is refering more to the fact it costs alot more to make then to buy, that coupled with gated mats etc… It isnt always just about speed here.
But what if you just set it aside as a longer term goal and just play? Salvage drops, mine here and there, make the ingots when you can…every day you get a little closer. Which was, after all, the goal of the precursor crafting- to provide a known path that allows tangible progress beyond simply amassing gold. Prices fluctuate and sure, it may be more expensive right now with everyone rushing, but if you are willing to wait you might find that your normal play has gotten you 75% of the way there and prices for the rest of the things that you need have come down a bit. In the meantime you have enjoyed your playtime, instead of feeling like you’re stuck doing the highest gold/hr thing over and over. It isn’t always just about cost here.
Just…play? I’ve been trying for THREE YEARS to complete a Bifrost. Just “playing the game” doesn’t net you the goods. Right now I have everything except the kitten ed precursor. And the entire second rank of the precursor is a big “screw you” to me who has no where near the remaining materials nor money to buy all the Spiritwood and other mats I need.
Ok, fine, RP-ing in DR will not get you the goods. Virtually anything else will. Even 35 spiritwood is only 250 gold at the currently high prices. If you can amass ~800g worth of mats pre-HoT to make the gift of fortune, you can handle 35 spiritwood. Or just go gather stuff and let it come to you.
Yeah.. you know what? The actual price of crafting The Legend is higher than just the 250+/- gold for the 35 planks. I was just noting the speedbump that annoyed me the most, especially since it’s requiring ascended materials. The actual crafting cost of the Biftost is ~higher~ than the average TP price for the thing, once you’ve added all the gold together. “A Legendary Journey” my butt.
I’ve done it, and will do it again. There’s no loot, I have to burn through boosts, and it’s mind-numbingly unfun. But I can’t play in HoT zones, or Mad King’s because that bar won’t fill. So… yeah. If you won’t let me play the content I WANT to play to fill the bar, when I’m going to go where it’s the easiest.
Just…play? I’ve been trying for THREE YEARS to complete a Bifrost. Just “playing the game” doesn’t net you the goods. Right now I have everything except the kitten ed precursor. Took me one year to save up enough money to buy Juggernaut. They don’t just mean “play the game and it’ll magically come to you”. They mean “Play the game with a goal but don’t chase after it obsessively.”
All I did was play the market. Checked up on it 3-4 times a week when I needed to. Fairly effortless honestly. Then I had a friend who busted her butt and got it in 3 months. I think that’s fair.
Okay, for one let’s discard the notion that I have somehow NOT been playing the game with a GOAL to get my legendary. Because I have. I’ve done every. single. bit. of PVE content prior to HOT and some of it many, many times over THREE YEARS. “All I did was play the Market” yeah? well that’s not “playing the game” that’s “playing the market” yes, GET RICH NOW, SIX EASY STEPS, bla bla bla. Promises that somehow are vague and yet unrepeatable. I do not doubt your success but if it were as easy to repeat, somehow everyone would sprout legendaries out of their butts, no? I doubt there’s anyone out there saying “Aaaah, no. I’d much rather not be carrying that much gold around. I’m allergic to wealth.”
(edited by Superfrick.1536)
For the record, I expected a long list of tasks. What I did not expect were those tasks to include materials a) needed for other items, and b) obtainable on the auction house. The whole justification of “Preserve the cost” is insulting. Especially with all of the stealth-nerfs to the rate of getting a kitten ed precursor via RNG since launch.

YOU CAN farm that all you want and take your time. BUT IT WILL ALWAYS be cheaper to get it on the tp. by selling the materials you get for your pre.
Who cares?
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine who likes to gamble at the forge had a streak and pulled out several “the legend” in a moderately short timespan. He didn’t intend to craft the Bifrost himself and was getting tired of putting them on the tp, so he offered one of them to me as a gift, knowing that I was thinking about crafting it.
I declined, just like I never considered getting one off the trading post, even if I’ve got enough resources to buy one out-right. Yet I’m very much considering doing the Bifrost precursor collections once I’ve gone through some of the other HoT content, simply because it looks like a fun way to occupy my time.
Getting in-game shinies is nice, but over three years of casual play I’ve collected enough shinies to get a heap of gold should I care to liquidate my assets, yet I don’t do it. Just as I don’t spend my time wondering about the “gold worth” of the activities I do in-game.
I’m a grown up with family and job that keep me occupied a lot. This game is my hobby, the time I spend to relax and enjoy myself. I don’t care to farm materials just to put them on the TP and exchange them for random gold. I don’t care to spend gold on shinies just to have a status symbol. I do care to spend my time playing stuff that amuses me, and precursor crafting looks just like the kind of stuff I’d enjoy, slowly gathering what I need during my play-time.
To me, a fun activity is infinitely more worth than efficient gold-gain that doesn’t amuse me. I don’t care if it’s cheaper to buy a pre than collect its pieces. Even if I got the precursor for free I’d still prefer the collection, since my fun is in collecting and crafting, not in possession.
Um… may I have a [The Legend?] because as someone living on the opposite end of the spectrum without 3 years worth of shinies to show for it. Could you at least shed some light on the difference between you and me? Is it seriously just RNG?
After spending 3 years trying to gather the materials and precursor (and failing) I expected that the new precursor was going to be:
1) Entirely based on progress, no Trading Post at all.
2) Account Bound, no Trading Post at all.
I really wish the developers were more transparent about these things, because frankly I would not have bought HoT at the $100 level. (I used those gems for gold to finish my gift of fortune).
You need 400 points to unlock the whole elite spec (this includes skins/runes. Not sure where they are in the spec). Hero Points in the new Maguuma maps all offer 10 points per completion as opposed to the one point you get for completing a Pact Tyria point.
But there are other people complaining about the piles and piles of unspendable hero points they still have left, what did I do wrong? How am I short?
No one had enough to unlock the elite spec’s when HoT came out earlier. The max Hero Points you could have before HoT’s release was 214.
Oh okay, so I was either being trolled, or they were just flat out wrong with their math.

I’m really confused why my level 80 w/ 100% GW2 map completion doesn’t have enough hero points to unlock everything.
I’m at 100% (GW2) map completion, with level 80, how did I not have enough Hero points to complete my elite mastery?
To be honest, I feel betrayed. I’ve spent the better part of 3 years gathering the materials, throwing away crafted exotics and rares into the RNG pit and such for my legendary; failing at every turn and ready to walk away from the game forever.
I came back to the game with the promise that getting a precursor would be a journey and not be something else in the game attached to the gold standard pretty much anything else is. I got the $100 version of the game and translated 4,400 gems into gold to buy the T6 mats I still needed.
I expected a bunch of quests and kill X dudes that eventually got me account bound stuff that then let me make an account bound “The Legend”. But nope, it’s more time gated crafting and expensive material sinks.
I’m sorry you learned the hard way on this one. Arenanet isn’t going to make any changes that would affect the current transaction rates and prices on the Trading Post. You can fully expect to pay just as much gold to “craft” a precursor as you currently would to just buy one off the TP.
But why should it matter what the TP cost of a precursor is? It’s already been established from 3 years of playing that I am not going to ever afford to spend the 1,300 Gold for The Legend in the Auction house. Ever. I am not a customer for that. My getting an account bound The Legend doesn’t change the TP value of a non-account bound one. I was never, ever, going to buy one.
But I am a customer who has wanted to sparkle and fling rainbows and has played the game for years in hopes of maybe some day getting to. And now I’m saddened that I’m either paying 1,300GP or forced to take part in “1,300GP worth of crafting and grinding”

I resolved this by buying 6 Identity repair kits and renaming 6 of my 8 characters to “Lahmia” with a secondary name to match the profession (and a makeover).
Aww… but I spend WAY to much time crafting the perfect name for each character (No one cares about your character names, Superfrick.1536, shut up) for me to want to toss that all away and go with your option. -But your option is effective, I’ve seen several people do it.
Heck, you could even give the Charr a tail bow. That would be adorable.
…I would totally buy a tail bow from the Gem store if it didn’t change any other part of what my character was wearing. #partoftheproblem
I was so wierded out the first time my female Asura put on a new set of heavy armor and ended up topless except for a strap. I hadn’t noticed up to this point that Asura used the male skins, I was all “Whaaaat?!”
Thank the mists for the free heritage armor skins from GW1. I wore those for a long part of her career since that moment.
I play several characters and rotate between them a lot. is there any way to just have my account name show in Guild Chat, so I don’t have to constantly explain who the heck I am every time I swap mid-conversation?
I’ve thrown out thousands in Bloodstone dust. (I’ve only recently gotten a Mawdrey II) But it does seem like we’re getting less dust today then we used to get a year or so ago. You should be caught up in a week or so.
Also who can deny the awesomeness of a flamethrower wielding plant burning stuff to the ground. Come on, that’s epic!
See? That sort of fun is the same approach I took for my Sylvari! Except I choose Necromancy, with the nickname “Carpenter” in front of her name and eventually added the title “Master Carver”. Every once in a blue moon, someone gets the joke.
All of those auto-loops need a few more bits of dialogue. I like them all and take no offense to a little girl teasing a little boy with the threat of a kiss (That sentence added for the OP) but it is getting old. And sometimes I do respond in /say.
Sylvari Banker: “More Violets less Violence!”
Me: “Cripes lady! You and your Violets! Roses are superior! More Roses less Proses!”
Asura Banker: “One day I’ll establish my prominance”
Me: "ESTABLISH YOUR DOMINANCE!
Little Girl: “etc etc that means I have to kiss you”
Me: “RUN DUDE! She has cooties!”
Now I know these audio-loops are done client side, and therefore have different timing to everyone, which means I sound like a crazy person blurting out these things.
When I walk into the Silverwastes, I shout : “Is this an event or chest train map?” And if I get an answer, I join whichever it is. (If they say event, I do event. If they say Chest, I track down the zerg). If I don’t get a reply (rare), I open LFG and join whatever is currently open.
So i decided to start posting some sketches i’v made, i’v quick painted em even cause i can’t rlly digital paint, it’s just so the diffrent “materials” were easier to tell from one another
a Palm Tree Pony, and a Flowery Long Hair
Hope you like it :P more will come meanwhile, i rlly enjoyd drawing those
!!! These are awesome.
Level up your heroes. They’re much better than the NPC you can hire.
To be clear. If everyone tagged the event and ran. As in, no one stayed behind to clear it. Does anyone gets stacks?
Keep in mind that there would be people who tagged at a different event and then moved to the one you are talking about so it might end up being finished by taggers.
So unless someone, somewhere finished the events, NO ONE gets any reward. Yep. Enjoy the extra blooms you got from folks like myself actually finishing the events. We didn’t get as much :p
The people who finish a given event might very well be taggers.
In theory at least it is possible for all events to be completed via tagging alone.
I am not saying that I approve of such however.
Personally I took part in one invasion through full event participation. In the following invasion I tagged. I couldn’t bring myself to continue playing the invasions after that.
Let’s try this again: “HI! I finished the events when the taggers ran away. You’re welcome/not welcome.”
Or, I don’t know.. maybe add bank slots for them like materials?
Many are single item ‘souvenirs’. I don’t think they would add slots to the bank for such things.
They should at least do it for the currency items in case they use the currency again. Y’know, like the socks and tickets.
As for the OP, there are several people in this game that get the best rewards, from pre’s to really expensive skins etc, its just the way the game is made, some believe that your account is tagged on creation to either get said loot, or not, Magic Find no matter how high you push it, does not seem to change this ( even though it should ) you will never get a reply from Anet or a Dev on this topic, as its working as intended as far as they are concerned, even though RNG has caused so many hate filled topics.
I am absolutely convinced that every account has a hidden “Luck” stat based entirely on some random hash. Maybe it was supposed to be somethng that shuffled on login, or every month or something. But it ended up locked in place.
I have terrible luck, and I’ve submitted tickets in-game, showed my progress/exotic drop rate in other threads, and recently invited the devs to datamine my account to show that “No, really. When have I gotten something sweet from the BL chests?”
Unfortunately there’s little transparency on the Anet side of things. About how Magic Find REALLY works, about the ACTUAL percentage of things are. (After all, a 300% increase to .000001 is still .000004).
And I get the argument of “If everyone’s loot was epic, then no one is” sort of thing. Whatever. Account bind stuff you don’t want crashing the market. I DID recently get an exotic from the MF and it was account-bound by default. Because wow, this “Delusion” staff would crash the market if I sold it! (sarcasm).
I’ve quit the game several times. Coming back only when there’s new story to tell. And Over the course of three years I’ve tried (and failed) to get a legendary. Since day 1 all I’ve wanted was for my Necromancer (a hated class by my peers, yay) to be able to shoot rainbows.
I’ve spent money on Gems. I’ve bought cosmetic things, account upgrades, etc. I’ve done my part. Hell, I bought the super-expensive HoT pack (in hopes of precursor missions) and used those gems to finally get the remaining T6 mats I needed.
So yes, I agree with the OP and wish Anet would throw us a bone.
Or, I don’t know.. maybe add bank slots for them like materials?
I don’t like buying keys because it’s like 27g each, and I don’t think I’ve ever gotten something, even an account bound thing that ever came remotely close to the value.
It costs 27G to buy a key via gems. I invite any and all devs to detamine my account and tell me when, in all the keys I’ve ever used or bought (25+) that I’ve come close to that amount one one, heck even two of the chests. Even in account bound items.

I like the idea of the story dungeons becoming soloable at their intended level. It would make for a cleaner story experience.

I guess you haven’t gotten to the part where the Tribunes are having a cat fight over which is the best- plastic bags, cardboard boxes or laser pointers. The Iron Legion prefers laser pointers, of course. Technology and well.. lasers. The Blood Legion prefers plastic bags since they make the most noise when you attack them in the dead of night. Ash Legion prefers cardboard boxes because they make the best places to set up an ambush. You as the player must settle these differences and pick the best. I went with laser pointers. It was a tough choice though as the case for cardboard boxes was pretty compelling.
Oh man. I’ve never been able to complete that one. The questgiver NPC suddenly runs out of the room for NO APPARENT REASON.
My feedback is as follows:
There are several times where I was left behind trying to actually CLEAR the events on my own rather than tag and run. The end result is the timer would end with me at 7-9 stacks, and the taggers at 15-20 stacks. If left me with a feeling that I was being taken advantage of.
(edited by Superfrick.1536)
It’s a false exchange rate. Even though the gold to gems cost ratio has gotten higher, the gems to gold ratio has not appreciably changed.
“More Violets less Violence”
My RNG luck is so bad, this year at PAX I bought a Hallmark “I’m sorry” card, adressed it to Zomorros c/o Mayani with a note inside apologising for whatever I did to make him angry, and to please stop eatin my rares.
I gave it to one of the dev team working the Corsair Booth.
Hello. I work in the ATM industry. And a large portion of our customer base is Casinos. And many of them use a voluntary opt-in block that people sign up for that can do all sorts of things like block transactions at X:XXam, or limit the daily cash advance to $XXX. Because there is a base of people who will hit their ATM max and then do cash advances, etcetera until their money is gone. And yes it’s just a password. And you know what? Having to reach for a password is all it takes to shift those mental gears in many cases. A brief moment of lucidity that stops the train.
Implementing the system took time, but it’s absolutely the best thing to do. Morally because you’re not enabling this to happen. And Economically? A happy, recurring customer is going to stay with you a lot longer than someone who burns it all on one-go. I absolutely agree than an optional lock on the mystic forge for anything that doesn’t have a 100% recipe should be put in place.
(edited by Superfrick.1536)
any word on what they may or may not do for those who already own all the dyes? I havent been keeping track, so hoping something might get discussed here.
If you accidently picked something you already own, they can resolve in a ticket and you get a new unopened box. if you already own ALL of the dyes? I think they shrug and give you an internet high-five for buying ALL THE DYES
Any color suggestions outside of Electro Blue? My first character hit 3, and yes that’s what I picked. And I’m likely to get Electro Pink because holy crap you can see that color from orbit. But any suggestions on other colors? (I have several characters) Do any of the sets have a near-black or near-white dye in them?
I hope you´ve not really just dropped meager 6 exo drops in 3 years, most people I know drop 6 exos in a slow month.
If so, /hug ^^
Except that I kept every single exotic I came upon during gameplay and up until the point where you can unlock skins, I had 4 in my bank. I’m assuming along the way I tossed a couple of staves into the mystic forge to save on artificing in my quest for a bifrost. So 6 is a fair and honest assumption.
