New map skill vs. Old map skill.

Clearly I do not understand so I am asking the community. A lot of people say the new maps (Temple, Spirit Watch, Sky Hammer) take no skill while the old maps (Foefire, Forest, Kyhlo) do. It seems to me thakittens pretty “skilled” to CC someone at the top buff on temple, at the orb to then cap it or delay the runner, and to CC people off the ledges on skyhammer. Seems like one would have to wait out their stability and dodge their CC in the meantime. However, skill for the old maps seems to be dropping aoe on point, dodging high damage abilities, and focusing fire so that the enemy cannot use his “skill” to survive because there is just too much damage. Seems to me both things are pretty viable and would require the same amount of “skill” to be successful at. Sadly, most say that the new maps require no “skill” and I don’t understand that. If one is “skilled” then why did they get knocked off the edge? Were they not good enough to dodge the enemy’s CC? Were they not good enough to stay alive while their enemy had stability? These seems like an example of the dead players lacking “skill” not the living players lacking “skill”. So where does the argument that maps like these require no “skill” come from?

Seems to me that you either win or lose fights depending on 2 things: skill or superior builds regardless of how its done.

Lowest skill map is Legacy of Foefire > Zerg Mid ask the pro player to stay on close. Then Forest. The Kyhlo (because the map is too smal for any good strategy instead of zerging 2 points).

But then come Temple it is the child of Forest and Kyhlo = small map with aoes and extra control points.(AoE fest with some pulling/timiings).

Then come spirit watch(too bad bugged) – the map that propose us the 4 poiints spliting – But wait! We need different builds for this map – screw it! None want to roll new build. Everyone want to play wow-style-1hero-life.

And now we have Skyhammer! The map that loves spliting, loves fast paced movements/jumping etc,loves CC and heavy timings. But again i need another build. Not AOE fest that i played yesterday at Legacy. How to solve? > go to forum whine and ask to remove from tourney rotation, so we can have 4 maps that we don’t need to change anything.

Rly? thats what you want from this game? My grandma is more flexible. She has some diversity from year to year when making her garden.

map is great for competetive game. Big,Open.Lots of movement and strategy involved.

for highladderpeople: competetive game=i take 1 build i play only it.
It is not WoW. Be flexible. Make builds for maps and have fun.

@Trooper: first of all it is pretty hard to understand what do you mean. “Fixing Weapon Skills”<- are they not responsing or not working? Didn’t see that issue in game. If you mean that they should be redesign’d and rebalanced , then it is part of balancing. If you play all classes, then i have to agree that you aint carring for one class specifically. Still some of as are.
I know that perfect balance in this kind of game is very hard (still not so hard as in gw1), but it is still possible. Well atleast I would like to see, when every class would be need’d in tpvp.

Not rebalance. Redesign – it is completly different.
Balance in the words that you mean – is nerfing/pumping abilities.

All people do now is crying for nerfed on “op” stuff. None crying about “up” stuff.

@if you think that it is immposible to carry on multiply classes then i am pitty for you,wow boy.

Warrior’s problem is that you are forced to take sertain utilities.

w/o balanced stances – you are cc-d till death and can’t land a hit.
w/o frenzy you are too slow and can’t excute fast dmg that difficult to be evaded
w/o bull’s charge you can’t execute well combo properly or even if you can it won’t be enough w/o it
w/o endure pain you would die to any opponent trying to tunnel you.

Please give more love to weapon skills first > then utilites + traits.

And after that starts balancing what you’ve done.

What about powercreep the current stats ? (increase the Vitality-Toughtness and the other stats in each amulets) ? (thiefs with berseker amulet = 20k HP)

a) U dont have to nerf everything . Keep the playerbase happy for now
b) U protect the new players for the time beeing , instead of throwing them in the lions
c) U give the developers time , to rethink about old specs that have been destroyed
d) temafights dont get a dps race

not a great idea. It will only make the bunker and condition meta be even more stronger and bursters like thief/warrior will be un available at all. You would die from retaliation/conditions before you do enough dmg.

Fair enough.

i am saying : why not to use brain instead of whining about OP classes.

You see enemy team have bunker ranger? Log on Power-pet master necro and shut-down this ranger.

I don’t like the way A-Net choose. There are so many not working-useless traits and weapon skills that nerfing working and good designed is ruining gameplay and build diversity at all. In beta we had good ranger’s GS. Now it is completly useless(unless bunker bm but 4-1-nders is still better). We had great axe on ranger – again nerf. We had good pistol on thief(but got nerfed projectile speed). But what you get when some1 got nerfed – nothing.

There was a good trait of warrior for while increased hammer dmg by 50% at cc’d targets. Hammer did so many dmg,but only if he had frenzy. Then they nerfed trait to 20%. It became ok, but after that they nerfed quickness to 50%. and the whole dmg combination felt don’t to 5% instead of 20%. Because you couldn’t execute combo.

Please give more love to weapon skills first > then utilites + traits.

And after that starts balancing what you’ve done.

Ranger
GS : All skills are good designed but you need to increase it dmg scaling with attack attributes(power/crit dmg and etc). Now it is not doing any dmg even with full zerk.
Longbow: Skill 1 – Slightly increase dmg in all ranges except close.
Skill 2 – Reduce activation time to 4 seconds.( look at warriors valley. It is doing practically same dmg but twice faster)
Skill 3 is great
Skill 4 – Add cripple effect from 2-5 seconds(depends on how long the character is knockbacked)
Skill 5 – Is ok.
Shortbow is good designed and need no tweaks. May a slightly better scaling with attack(power)
Axe all skills but 3. Increase scaling with Attack(power) attribute( now all skills do too low dmg with high power)
Other ranger weapon skills are ok.
Necromancer need more way to fulfill his life force.
Staff – is ok
Axe MH – skill – 1 slightly increase dmg/increase vurnability duration from 7c to 10. Add 1% of life force per attack.
Skill – 2 Increase life force gain to 16% from 8%
Skill – 3 Reduce cast time to ¾. Retaliation receive not only necromancer but 5 allies within 600 range.
Dagger MH – make auto attack cleave(like warriors)
Skill 2 – increase healing per pulse 3 time more that it is now.
Skill 3 – reduce cast time to ¾.
Scepter MH – Skill 1 and 2 are ok.
Skill 3 – give 2% of life force for each condition applied on target.
OH Dagger is ok.
OH focus Skill 4 – gain 3 % life force for every bounce that hit enemy.
OH warhorn – skill 4 – increase the angle in which this skill hit.
Skill 5 – Give 2% life force everytime you hit when surrounded by swarm.

Guardian. I suppose that guardian’s weapons skill are great designed.
Except Scepter skill 2 = Make it symbol
OH Toarch – skill 4 – Remove 1 condition from yourself when activated
Skill 5 – Increase the range and angle to 600.
Thief
I see problem only in Duel Pistol thief. Overall increase projectile speed for his pistol attacks.
Skill 2 – reduce cast time to 1/4 . Increase vurnability duration to 8 seconds.
Skill 3 (unload) – make it 100% physical projectile(like illusionary duelist)

Engineer
Nothing to speak about shield and pistols. They are fine and shield is great.
Riffle Skill -1 Significantly increase dmg.
Skill -2 is ok, but add a bit dmg.
Skill – 3 increase range to 600. Increase dmg from both close and far combat.
Skill – 4 is ok.
Skill – 5 increase vurnability to 5 stacks and slightly increase dmg.
Then I think high time to speak about kits.
Grenades/Bombs are fine. Flamethrower is fine too giving a lot utility.
Tool kit. Skill 1 – Reduce cast time to ¼ – ¼ – ½
Skill 2 – increase range to 360 , increase duration to 6 seconds.
Skill 3 – Decrees casting time to ¼
Skill 4 and 5 are fine.
Elixir Gun. Skill 1 – is fine
Skill 2 – is fine
Skill 3 – increase range to 600. Increase poison and vurnability duration to 1 pulse – 2 seconds.
Skill 4 – Apply 3 stacks of bleed for 6 seconds. Apply poison and chill for 3 seconds.
Skill 5 – greatly increase a healing scale with healing attribute. Change combo field to water.

Refered to the topic that now people speak about balance and stuff. They don’t understand if they nerf some specs/classes and Anet didn’t fix the stuf that is not working the class would be completly destroyed.(like happened to war after beta).
Here is my list
Warrior:
GS Skill – 1 ok
Skill – 2 – Decent dmg but lets take a look at other classes skills that root that to ground and force to channel. Thief got evade with phistol whip, Mesmer got evade with blured frenzy, guardian got projectile block, even ranger got block projectile with his whirling defense. I think Hundred blades need to make lower dmg and get some sort of defense – may be reflect projectile may be a block.
Skill – 3 is great and ok
Skill – 4 Why you nerfed it so you can’t through it more then in 120 angle? Make it bad or get at least 240 otherwise it rarely hit
Skill – 5 ok
Burst skill – please make it something like a bit leap with 1-2 secs daze(like rangers hilt bash). Current one is useless. Or make it range something like bladetrail. A lot of options here.
Hammer skill – 1 make the animation a bit shorter. On 3rd skill give us a small chance(10-20%) to daze/stun opponent for ½.
Skill – 2 make it ½
Skill – 3 Great and ok
Skill – 4 Is a bit bad designed. There is 3 solution to make this skill worth to click if you play hammer. Reduce cast time to ½ or make the knockback more then 180 or make the range more than 130.
Skill – 5 Make cast time 3/4 + add cripple for 5 seconds.
Burst skill – Cut down animation. Don’t think you need to reduce activation time but just tone down animation. Or just make it ½.
Longbow skill – Skill 1 reduce cast time ½ or increase speed of projectiles
Skill 2 is ok.
Skill 3 greatly increase projectile speed
Skill 4 add daze for ¼
Skill 5 is very ok. Even too strong.
Burst : is ok
Riffle skill 1 – slightly reduce dmg but make it ½
Skill 2 – is ok
Skill 3 – Reduce cast time to 2 seconds sharp.
Skill 4 – Reduce cast time to ¾
Skill 5 – make it to hit in a more wide angle.
Burst skill : make to to hit through invurabilities(distortion/mistforms/blocks/endure pain and other skills that didn’t let you take dmg), but still be abled to dodge and projectile reflect/destroy. It is a kill shot – if it hits it kills
Axe MH – Is great. Everything is ok.
Axe OH – 4 cause dual strike to rip 2 boons if hit or stack 8 stack of vurnability. Keep fury buff.
5 make this skill to block projectiles.(same as thief’s whirling axes)
Mace MH – 3-rd hit in a chain need to be ¾ not 1. And 1-2 skill may be ½ .
Skill – 2 make counterblow an ¼ daze.( so it can interrupt action)
Skill – 3 slightly increase dmg.
Mace OH skill – 4 Make it ½ like cyclone axe.
Skill – 5 is great may be too strong.
Burst skill – make it a slight leap for 50-100 range. It usually miss if you don’t stay toy 2 toy with opponent. Add this > if person stunbreak it, he receive 1/2 -3/4 – 1 sec of Daze.
Sword MH Skill 1. First skill : Final Thrust – add + if foe lower than 50% health he receive extra dmg(hi gw1)
Skill 2 and 3 Ok.
Sword OH Skill 4 Make it to put 4 stacks of bleeding right on impact.(same s rangers crippling talon)
Sword OH skill 5 Make it to. Interrupt an enemy foe inflict ¼ daze and apply 4 stacks of bleeding.
Burst skill Add – warrior blocks all attacks while attacking realy fast.(distortion/phistol wheep etc).
There a lot bad things in utilities / traits too that’s are not working properly or at all. But main thing is reworking Warrior’s Mastery attribute. 3% dmg could be good for eviscerate or kill shot. But for other burst skills it is nothing.
As far as I see there is 2 solutions how to fix it: Give warrior 1 point in brawn 1% armor penetration.( you ever tried to hit a guy with 3.4k armor? I crited for 4k dmg with evi in full bers build.) or Give warrior extra adrenaline for each attack he do ( 10 points + 1 adrenaline), that’s would affect all warrior’s specs.

Hello! Hello! I’ve played guild wars for long time. Now I am playing guild wars 2 since release and what really kitten me is whine on forum. And the worst thing is balance whine. You will never have perfect balance it is impossible.

As far as i see the major part of guildwars 2 pvp community is ex-wow or such level and gear relevant even in pvp games. They speak about their class is underpowered , enemy class is overpowered, but none tries to out draft it with different class, none tries to out play it in strategy. All they do : I am elementalist/Mesmer/ranger/guardian/necro (instert any other class) I don’t want to roll another class at start of the match when I see opponent team comp, I will never roll another class and so on. But in fact you can out draft any enemy pick you have. You have 1:30 seconds to change classes before the game start. None forbid you to do it! This is game where you don’t need to level it. Stop whine about imba’s/op’s. Use your brain to cheese and counter it! With so many classes and builds and the opportunity to change your character “on fly” this is more build wars then guild wars 1 was.

If you don’t want to do it and think that I play 1 class and this class should be great against ANY enemy composition = you fool!
And A-Net instead of doing realy usefull things just try to fuzzy you with their balance patches, but whine will never stop because you can’t balance 8 classes with more than 50 total weapon sets.

The thing that is realy important for pvp and for new players : to fix useless weapon skills/utilities. When I first logged in gw2 I created a warrior with 2 swords with kick/stomp utilites. Because I realy liked the idea of skills and how they looked. Such a warrior fitted in my mind as a warrior(Conan barbarian and other swarznegger roles.) But what I got: skill 4 did 0 dmg, got canceled by 1 hit and didn’t do rly great benefit. Kick and stomp I rarely hit it and if I hitted It didn’t benefit at all to entire fight. And I felt a bit upset that I can’t use the skills I like even in hotjoins and etc.
To make game more friendly to new players of pvp you need to make all weapon skills works properly, and be realy usefull in any kind of fight.
Personaly I’ve made the list of weapon skills that need to be toned that i will adress in next topic.

And please stop trying to balance the things that works. Make the things that don’t work – available.
Nerfing working specs only push people out of the game.

While balancing classes now you have a big chance to break it completly.

Signet of Illusion that should give HP to illusions doesn’t affect illusion on PvP Arenas (during the match) when they are summoned. It starts giving benefit only after ~6 seconds.

But for rewards : i Think instead of giving people silver chest – add special paid tournament chest : it will consist off 5 powder – 1 sliver – 1 crystal – 1 arcane orb and 1 paid token and 2 random items.

Sorry to be mean, but “special rewards” should belong only to a small group of ppl, and not to the bright crowd. As now you see every player with paid equipment because it’s too easy to get it. It lost the “speciality” in it.

then they should remove chest for taking place 5-8 in normal paids.
Still bad people got that stuff in a week since paid got relized.

Yeah it is realy good thing. More people playing now because the price is lower. No more long quees and waiting till the late evening to start playing. No more long 1h tournament. You can play for fun.

I think they gona make the tournament system (old paids) for daily – weekly – monthly tournaments like it was in gw1. And it is very good!

But for rewards : i Think instead of giving people silver chest – add special paid tournament chest : it will consist off 5 powder – 1 sliver – 1 crystal – 1 arcane orb and 1 paid token and 2 random items.

I love the idea you added them to PvP either, but the thing that i hate is – if i want to play another character and i want my cute babby quagan be with me i have to go to LA put it to bank, log in another character go to LA take and only then i can start PvP.

Could you make special PVP locker’s item line for such an items, so people can stash it in mists like other pvp weapons and armors without being forced to go to LA.
