To kuora.5402: Speaking for the SEA & oceanic guilds in HoD – spoken language is English. Even though people get on voice chat with varying accents/slangs, we don’t seem to have a communication problem. It’s nice to have a good mix of cultures and timezones.
Also… we may have a smaller population than most servers, but we are holding our own in WvW vs two “Very High” populated servers. If that alone is possible, imagine what we could do with more players?

Our guilds that are not North American(both have about 200)
Shimmering Darkness[SD]
Charter Vanguard[CV]
I’m one of the GL’s from the Charter Vanguard, and also from SEA. We’re actually an international guild with a large NA presence, but as Linanthony mentioned, there’s a considerably large portion of the guild from GMT +8. Guild size is nearly 300 btw. SD happens to be similarly international with a large SEA presence too, and we often play WvW together, and sometimes organize larger groups. There’s a third SEA guild from HK called FARM, and they often run with us as well.
You guys would be very welcome on the Henge of Denravi server if you decide to come, especially considering we are a smaller server. If you want to make a large impact, move to a low tier server that needs more players vs the ones that are already full up, and queued.
Communities at Tier 7 are somewhat smaller, so 5-man guerilla tactics are pretty rampant. Every man counts, and every contribution makes a difference.

The T8 servers have been hoping that we’d murder HoD and send them down to T8, forcing SF up to T7. Honestly, we need to try harder. SF deserves to move up. Let’s give them the chance, k?
SF deserves to be in Tier 7 and we don’t? -_- Don’t regret getting SF if they really do move up.

AA left HoD when TA left.
And to Myro, of course I’m not asking any one person to do something about those attitudes. There’s no way any person could make an entire server civil, and I admit there are some bad eggs on HoD as well. All I’m asking is where is the old bunch of DH we fought a few weeks before? Meeting DH in the JP has always been a pleasant experience till recent weeks. I also wanted to say that I miss the earlier fights.
http://cv.englishmist.com
Have been noticing a lot of undesirable attitudes from players in DH since the transfer lockdown. Corpse dancing/jumping, whisper-taunting and name-calling. Thrice I’ve also allowed DH to pass me by peacefully in the JP, only to have them come back and try to hit me. Today was the last straw, when my entire team of five waved and bowed to a thief from DH from the [KILL] guild in the JP, allowing him passage to get his chest, only to have him go invis and attempt to down one of our guys.
What’s happened to your more civilized players, Darkhaven? I miss the early fights we had when you guys were a lot more courteous.

HoD is far from dead. Just ask our opponents GoM and DH. We’ve had queues to our BL and EB on several occasions too.
http://cv.englishmist.com
Two thumbs up for Eredon Terrace!
I’ve always liked you guys. I felt both our servers (HoD and ET) have had a lot in common, and for a while, we endured the spiral downwards together. During that time, I’d often wave to your guys on the battlefield, and your guys would wave back – so I think the sentiments are mutual. So glad to hear you’re really coming together as a server, and I wish you all the best in your efforts.
Hope to meet with you guys again sometime

DH invader corpse dancing after zerging our borderlands. I tell the guys on our server not to corpse dance on a win, I hope you guys practice that policy too.

Anet should have implemented paid transfers right at the start, but tbh I’m kinda glad HoD went thru what it did so we could mould it into what it is today. People should really just develop a sense of server pride and loyalty and work with what they have. A lot of the problems caused were directly or indirectly caused by player impatience and the view that “winning” is the only way to play the game.

Agreed. We were much more civil the first week we competed. Hope that can continue. Am pretty sure no cross server alliances have happened. Even tho population has made this match less balanced. But it’s nowhere close to some of the imbalances we’ve had other matchups. Plus you may not all agree but I still believe our three servers have much better manners and less cheats/hacks than some. Let’s take pride in that and our own conduct. Even tho GoM has fallen behind a bit, I wouldn’t be surprised if you surpassed us thru the week. Don’t give up yet. And to my home server of HoD, big thumbs up! Love ya guys.
http://cv.englishmist.com
Been meeting lots of new people and guilds lately. Just wanna wish you all a very warm welcome, and thank you for choosing our server
http://cv.englishmist.com
Welcome to HoD Grimm!
And I agree with Eve about alliances. I’m glad that the entire server has come together as one unit instead of being split into several alliances, or getting ruled by a dominant party. I like that every guild chips in without needing to be told. I guess we all really feel our stake in this server.
http://cv.englishmist.com
HoD is at tier7 but you may find lower tiers to be less zergy and population is relatively stable at the moment. Community is great too.
http://cv.englishmist.com
that is how you can avoid the next hit….cus you will get another if you rise again……this time be rdy for it;)
Let’s hope paid transfers will minimize any more of such imbalances.

Thanks (almost) everyone for the kind words. We have decided on Henge of Denravi and will be transferring there in the near future. I really appreciate the time everyone took to give me their perspective on things. The thoughts and opinions posted in this thread were quite helpful!
Catch you all on the flip side….
Hooray! All of HoD welcomes you with cheers and confetti
http://cv.englishmist.com
Thank you for all the kind comments! I hope HoD’s tale can be a beacon for all servers who’ve recently suffered massive losses and are going thru some dark times. Loyalty pays and your server will recover like ours did. Just keep plugging at it and don’t let anything get you down

Looking for a casual server with a great community? Join HoD before the cut off date.
We’ve grown very much since surviving GW2’s very first mass exodus, and are now sitting comfortably at tier 7. The community itself has banded together through the hard times, and you will find us a very close knit group. Together, we have weekly shared events across a few timezones, a server mumble and community forums.
Visit the site at the link above to talk to us, and survey the guilds available on this server. We hope to see you soon!

Over the Betas, a number of casual, community based guilds gathered at the site, hengeofdenravi.com with the intent of establishing it as a server with a close-knit population, that would consist of guilds sharing events, and weekly runs. The plan seemed solid, and a tentative chain was built between these guilds, some as old as the betas of Guild Wars 1.
Unfortunately, even the best laid plans can dampened. Unexpectedly, the Titan Alliance, a hardcore WvW alliance of 17 guilds (at the time), moved to HoD and quickly filled up the server not just with their numbers, but also masses who wanted to take advantage of the server buffs, and WvW wins.
In a matter of time, HoD quickly became the server to beat, with WvW queues up to 5hours. And as much as it felt like we ought to be celebrating with every win, most of the other guilds that had moved to HoD took little to no part in WvW because of the atrocious waiting times. Over time, we just collectively decided to avoid WvW all together, and stay in PvE.
Then without any notice, and just within a week, the lead guild of TA quit the alliance, and all the guilds scattered. With the scattering of TA guilds, so did anyone else who had joined the server for the bonuses. Quite suddenly, the community of HoD found ourselves alone, and completely untrained for WvW, especially when facing other tier 1 guilds. Many entered WvW for the first time, at such a late stage in the game, and were mostly frightened away by how brutal it was on our meagre numbers.
For months, HoD suffered an excruciating fall, finding ourselves outnumbered constantly, and zerged at our spawn. And over this time, map chat remained bleak and pessimistic with talk about transfers. Yet amidst HoD’s dark days, some members of the community began fighting back, slowly and steadily. Learning to play WvW the hard way against huge numbers and well developed high-tier strategy.
Before long, the kitten-fights gathered popularity among some of the community, and a WvW core team was established. We lost and died often, but by that time, HoD had become so accustomed to losses, it had built some form of immunity to any disappointments. The chat on map also steered towards the positive, probably because the people who only intended for victories had departed, leaving only the seasoned and incredibly loyal members of the community. It also lured in members of other servers who were looking for an underdog-type situation of beating-the-odds.
The original chain of guilds gradually increased with more and more guilds banding together to work towards a better HoD. And finally the dream of HoD being a community based server with shared events, and a tight-knit population was realised following several server meetings, and continued relations between the leaders of guilds and more outspoken members of the community.
HoD’s descent has finally ended in recent times, and we have found ourselves comfortable and competitive at Tier 7, opposite other great servers such as Gate of Madness and Darkhaven – enough to take a win last week.
Small team tactics are in place on a daily basis, and our prior experience from defending against much larger servers do come into play every now and then. We have also grown a wonderful team of commanders, who run WvW lessons and battle-mentoring every so often. Our community runs quite evenly through international timezones, as well as our coverage in WvW. And our server-wide weekly events cover different zones.
From time to time, HoD has some fun in WvW; like forming a line of naked-dancing norn in a tower being bombarded by the enemy, and having its commanders line up at the top of a vista while invaders swarm below. The community mumble is also always rife not only with tactical discussion, but also jokes and other fun-chat.
Today, HoD is evidence that there is life after an exodus, having finally found its place and the community it strived so long and hard to achieve.
*If you would like to find out more about us, simply visit the community page at http://hengeofdenravi.com. *
We welcome all able-bodies, from beginner to veteran, young to the old, casual to the hardcore. And be assured that we are a casual server, and no schedules or patrol charts will be imposed upon you. Play as you like, be it WvW or PvE, and we understand when real life comes first. The community matters more than gathering a win.
With that being said, we hope that we will see some of you in the coming week, and all the best in your final choice for a server!

Hi Ski, I’m a representative from Henge of Denravi, and will answer any of your questions should you have any.
As mentioned, even though we took a long fall for a while, we’ve finally stabilized at tier 7. Small team tactical play is rampant at this tier, and at times the WvW maps are relatively peaceful – which is a good time for map chat, or trying the jump puzzle. Other times, it can be pretty nail biting, because of how balanced we are with the other servers in this tier, so one can never tell who’s going to win till the end of the week, and every member’s effort counts – even to the simple sentry flipping, or dolyak killing.
Will have to say GoM and DH has larger zergs than ours, though they tend to come in spurts. HoD, on the other hand, is possibly the most spread out in timezones out of the three. We’ve got a decent NA early evening and late night crew, as well as Oceanics, Asians and Euros, all working hand in hand over the span of the day. We also have a server mumble that gets used on a daily basis, and server-wide WvW lessons.

Wah Lao eh, this thread should have been up months ago. Now a lot of us are scatter all over the server and getting comfortable in our respective server.
But if we have a centralized guild or server for Singaporean , I would no doubt consider a transfer .
CD is probably the server you’re looking for. I followed my long time gw1 guild into HoD and we like mixing around with international crowds, for the cultural exchange. So no regrets or intent to switch.
http://cv.englishmist.com
I never understood " server pride". U do realise its only a name for a piece of hardware right?
To be fair, states are really only chunks of land which certain groups of people have claimed as their own through nothing more than brute force; furthermore, your homeland is determined mostly by chance, while your home server is entire up to you.
As for server transfers, I agree with what someone mentioned above. Just let the bandwagoners finish their trek to the top, and merge the remaining servers.
I doubt many low tier servers want to be merged. As unbelievable as it is, some of us prefer being in a smaller, well bonded community where wvw is more kitten like minus the constant massive zergs and siege deadlock.
Most of us would also put community first above winning. There is much to be said about server loyalty, working together against the odds to achieve something beyond victory – That being of brotherhood and comradeship.
http://cv.englishmist.com
Sitting happy in tier 7, Henge of Denravi. Whole bunch of Singaporeans and Malaysians here, spread over a few guilds. We do cross-guild cooperative WvW most nights, some temple runs and such. Being on a smaller server, everyone is pretty familiar with each other, and even some of the ang mohs are speaking Singlish :P

Good job HoD… you’re making me want to start my own golem apocalypse.
Watch it in video :P
Looking forward to next week.
ADD-ON
I posted this here, and someone from HoD cautioned that the video might be received in offense by those in DH, as though we were trying to rub victory in your faces.
What actually happened was when our borderland crew was besieged by a large group of DH at our EH keep. They came armed with a golem, and took us quite by surprise. Would have won as well, if a bunch of others from EB did not show up at the last minute.
So the borderlands crew came up with a zany plan to spin that golem trick back on DH. And quickly, one golem turned into two, and ended up at four. We were half expecting to get stopped, and our golems killed, but our hit on DH’s rather empty hills keep came without a hitch. And people began building more golems, while others flocked to the map to join in the zerg. So we decided to hit garrison, then the bay keep, and eventually the rest of the towers, all without so much as one or two defenders each time sneaking past us and doing little to stop the mob.
So the golem apocalypse was unplanned, but somehow it worked – admittedly, we were surprised ourselves. Maybe because of the hour it was launched. And last I checked (before I logged) was that there was intent to have none of the towers/keeps upgraded so that you guys would not have a problem reclaiming them, and in the process, getting yourselves some xp too.
Hope that clears matters up, and that no offense was taken. We would certainly like to keep up the good relations we’ve had all week. DH has quickly become one of our favourite servers to compete against, and we are really glad to be matched with you guys again. Hope you feel the same way.

Dear HoD and DH,
Go to bed.
Love,
GoM
Nevaaaa!!! doses off at the keyboard
Lol but seriously this has been so neck and neck it’s been incredibly hard to log off. I’m sure you know what I mean GoM. I’m sure you guys are suffering late nights now just like us.

Great matchup and wonderfully courteous opponents! Have been passing by opponents in the jp and havent seen anyone try to kill each other. Big thumbs up to DH and GoM from HoD!
http://cv.englishmist.com
I was gonna play nice and rest while doing jp, I was waiting for my box to reset at HoD borther JP. and this mesmer who was porting his guys up to chest for hours suddenly brings 5 of em up there and attacked me. Well hey, even u guys attacked me I survived and killed one of ya.
Anyways, cant we just chillax at JP tho =.,=??
You could chill at your own borderlands jp. I think it’s enough you guys took our keeps and towers. Myself and a guildie left two Kai inv (guild named United Korea) alone at the HoD bl jp while we were there and they called in 3 others to kill us. Few hours ago I heard the jp was camped by Kai. I think the chillax pill should go two ways, ESP to invaders, and less so defenders.
http://cv.englishmist.com
Kain just keeps getting more people on it every day.
All the people moving here are moving here to WvW as well, I think when it all settles down Kain will be one of the better if not the best WvWvW server in NA.
Well, “best in WvW” means nothing when it’s only temporary. And there’s a huge risk of that while free transfers are up, so I wouldn’t start getting my hopes up.
http://cv.englishmist.com
Now to those complaining about this week’s matchup – who says losing can’t also be fun?
This is what HoD does when we basically have nothing…

Btw, hope you KAINs enjoyed our dance.

Hi Feros,
I’m from the Charter Vanguard (http://cv.englishmist.com) on the Henge of Denravi server. We’re an 8 year old (since gw1) 200+ member guild with a whole bunch of parents, and teenagers who joined and grew into adults who got married and had kids.
We love chatting in-game, and meet up for ceremonies, as well as wvw, dungeons and spvp events. We also have a weekly slot for role play. We’re pretty casual so nothing is compulsory. You only need to represent us for the majority of the time, and preferably be on the server with us so we can do things together. But if you can’t get online very often because you’re busy with your family and other real life issues, that’s completely understandable. Real life does come first
CV has a long history of being beginner friendly, so if you need some advise concerning the game or your nec, feel free to consult any of us. Hope to see you around!

As someone from HOD, let me say -that respect goes both ways. Borlis Pass is deserving of the score it has right now. The nights Ive been in WvW, you guys have played both efficiently and smart.
Regarding my server (HOD), the rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated. Those who chose to stay through the past drama work well together and, more importantly, respect one another. We also have some great commanders that know leadership isnt about barking orders at random people.
Our issue is most definitely one of numbers – it is not one of heart.
Seconded. I’m also a member of HoD, and very proud of the community that was left behind by the massive exodus. Those who’ve remained fight with all their heart, even when it’s 8 fellows in an un-upgraded tower vs over 30 invaders stocked with trebs and all other kinds of siege heh… am looking at you BP. Thanks for the memories, it was all kinds of epic.
I believe the months of fighting uphill battles against the big league servers like Blackgate, Jade Quarry and Stormbluff Isles immediately after our server shrunk a third or less of its former size has certainly taught us important lessons; to shrug off all losses and try, try again. Anyone who would’ve ragequit at a death has long departed this server. In their place have come brand new transfers – people who like playing the underdogs and fighting to the death beside their comrades, before spawning back right after for more. It’s a much more positive attitude all round than the one we adopted while TA was around, when we expected the server to win 24/7. I feel much more bonded with the group we have now than ever before.
So yes, we do lack manpower over here, but we’re far from being a “dead server” as I’ve notice we get referred to every now and then. HoD does have bite… albeit a small one :P but you never know where and when it’ll hit next!
