I think it depends on how, and who, you play with. I still have loads of fun in wvw.. and love exploring to find new siege spots. Small group roaming is usually more satisfying.
You could do worse than look at Piken as a server with potential for growth. Great community and lots of variety in playstyle.
i confirm this ….
these people know well how to blob !!!

Might be nice to see the “no armor damage on death” buff changed to an increase in toughness stat.
Another idea could include an increased siege weapon dmg buff whilst outnumbered, since it’s likely that a small group of people will be defending structures against a blob.
Right now, you can be quite prepared, but 4 people trying to hold garrison against a blob of 30 is usually a given outcome.
I was doing some map completion in Timberland Falls around 12 hours ago and was getting lag spikes randomly. There were few others on the map, so it couldn’t be about load, and I don’t usually experience this in PVE areas. In WvW earlier on other days this week, same issue on borderlands. In particular I notice it when trying to pick up supply, build seige, and sometimes I lag over the edge of stuff and die. Screen shows I am still on edge of a cliff or fort, but cannot be rezzed, so body is somewhere else! The other telltale is when leaving water areas, particularly in Bay for some reason, it takes quite a while for my land weapons (10 secs +) to reappear when leaving the water. I interpret this as lag.
Although these things happen from time to time, it has been worse this week. I always play in off-peak times too, so again, it can’t just be about server load.
Hope you can find a solution to this issue as it seems to be not just player end of the equation.

When I solo roam, it is for the purpose of capping camps, killing /escorting dollies, upgrading towers/keeps and scouting on the map for whoever is commanding. I will also run supply to the commanders group if needed, join them for a fight or two and then go back to roaming.
For that reason, I am often not running a purpose built roaming build, as that is useless if one is needed to help the group/zerg. As such, if I see a group of thieves, or even one thief or a PU mesmer, I will run rather than fight as I know it is unlikely I will prevail, and then have to spend a whole heap of wasted time running back from spawn. If I know there is someone coming to help, I will hang around and try to prevent capping until they get there.
I don’t play WvW for 1:1 fights. I would go to PvP if that was the gaming experience I was after. I play WvW for the team effort and for the server, which I presume it was designed for.
Extended siege timers would be excellent, one way or another. I’m also a defender and it is very disruptive to enjoyable play to keep track of siege timers. Even 2 hours would be a major improvement, but linked to a rank points (low cost) line would be awesome.
I second Piken Square. Great server, great people, scant but present coverage during off peak times (ideal for havoc squads and defense in those hours). Pretty good bunch of guilds and commanders too!
I love scouting… but I don’t do it for the time being because I miss out on a tonne of loot. Thinking of hiring myself out for 1G an hour
If I ran a guild, I would be happy to pay my scouts for their efforts… everyone wins with good scouts!

^^ See this before you decide to use an AOE Loot macro
I’m hoping the “Facilitating Friendly Play” releases might address this.
*Skill lag, rubber-banding, usually heading in to a keep or fight. Can miss the whole fight and end up “insta-dead”, while whole group has already moved on. Sometimes ends in a DC.
*Piken Square
*yes, I play from Australia – had put it down to distance, even though it is off-peak times for the server. Have been unable to fix from my end.
*If a whole party is experiencing the lag, the whole map is usually experiencing it in some way.
*No, sometimes it seems random, but often when there is an enemy zerg on the map.
*The zerg doesn’t have to be matched in numbers. It can be 5-10 of us against 20-ish of them. Problem is definitely worse with bigger zergs, although I don’t often see those at the times I play.
Thanks for looking in to this, its a BIG problem with wvw player base and really impacts on gameplay.
Typin, thank-you. You get it.
Forums are a place to give constructive feedback. Positive discussion is constructive and interesting, actually. There will always be negatives to bring up, just like life, nothing is ever perfect, nor should it be.
IMHO, the constant complaining just reflects a wider issue of a focus on first world problems.
Yes, the game is beautiful, the design is amazing… and it’s also fun to play, despite the so called “game-wrecking” issues. They don’t wreck the game for me.
GW1 evolved considerably over its time. I expect GW2 will continue to do so also. I’m really looking forward to the new feature pack. The runes and sigils changes look very promising, can’t wait to see the new trait set-ups and the possibilities in mixing the abilities.
As for my example complaint of “Rangers are OP”, that will be a future one…
Peace people, just enjoy the game despite what you perceive as flaws! It’s a game!!
8 months playing WvW, same server, under a couple of different guilds (1 defensive, 1 offensive) depending on what I feel like doing. If I get bored/annoyed with that (and it’s usually the people that annoy me, not the game), I go do something else for a while.
Some of the complaining on this forum is outrageously gratuitous.
“Warrior is OP”
“Warrior sucks”
“Ranger is OP”
“Ranger sucks”
“Thief is OP”
“Thief sucks”
“Upcoming changes suck” (before they’ve even been seen, tested or looked at in the big picture.
“Anet sucks”
It’s all so incredibly negative. Hardly any kudos to Anet for the amazing game we have the privileged lives to play. Anet actively tries to kitten players off? As if.
I think the point has been completely missed sigh
Seriously people, GW2 is a great game. It’s complex, interesting, constantly evolving.. and there’s more to do at any time than you could possibly get bored with.
I don’t understand why people are so negative all the time. Sure, give constructive feedback, but accept what is there and work with it instead of finding every tiny thing to complain about. Sure glad I don’t work for Anet and have to listen to the constant disparaging of my work.
I remember Commodore 64. Gaming has come such a long way, it’s really, truly amazing. The graphics and artwork are incredible now.
That we can even afford a computer and play a game such as this automatically puts us among the top richest people in the world. How about some gratitude and perspective?
TL;DR
Count your blessings in life and stop the QQ.
^^ I think this is correct, at least, it makes sense!
A timely reminder that behind the characters are real people, with real life challenges.
Treating others with respect and compassion are important, whether we “know” the person or not.
RIP Starscream, my heartfelt condolences to your family and friends, and honor to the process of trying to figure it all out. May you all find peace within.
Thanks to OP for this remembrance.
It would be way cool if the Twisted Watchwork Portal Device could port you to instances of past living story that were scaled for a party of 5 …
