Just an idea for the design crew.
WvW themed finishers would perhaps make nice rewards/gem store items for WvWers.
Salt Finisher: Salt shaker shakes a few sprinkles of salt, then lid falls off and salt gets dumped in a pile.
Siege Finisher: Random Guild Siege (with guild emblem) that bursts into fire before disappearing.
Giggling Catmander: Larger version of Catmander tag that laughs before floating off.
A group of us came up with these in TS the other day.. add your idea.. maybe Anet will get smart and design some to fund WvW :p
Gliding in wvw is an excellent improvement. It changes mobility, makes it more efficient and.. it’s fun.. cos.. you know.. we are playing a game! I also like gliding in combat.. you can be shot out of the sky, you can’t use your own skills when gliding.. where is the problem?
You can get to many camps faster to defend if attacked.. thus increases the chance of an actual skirmish occurring.
Yes, some tweaks need to be made, but overall, gliding has increased enjoyment of wvw. We’ve had many laughs and lots of fun.
~ Very long term and consistent wvw player and wvw guild leader. (My guildies all love it too!)
Also having same problem in WvW on Piken Square. Major lag spikes not due to my location, have checked tracerts etc. Spikes up to 3800ms that occur when engaging in any kind of group fight, big or small. Game is unplayable at the moment for me.
It’s a fair point you make Goatjugsoup, however WvW is the mode I like to play and I have limited playtime. Last thing I want to have to do on top of dailies, pact supplies and running 2 WvW guilds is saunter over to PVE and farm for flax fibres. I’d be happy to buy them in stacks if they would not send the guilds broke.
Anet, please look at this situation. I’m sure it would not take a lot of effort to fix. It’s killing the upgrade system and giving advantage in a PTW way.
Look at supply and demand, (and I can guarantee you that demand is underestimated), as most people probably just look at the price and decide “nope”.
This is NOT an elite material to build anything that people can sell and profit from, it’s a basic need for the WvW community to support their guilds and servers.
Another possible idea would be to have a recipe that allows us to create flax fibers from flax seeds.
Another good idea. MF promotion of flax seeds FTW!
Another idea..
Perhaps ANet could consider a guild flax fibre node, exclusive to guild halls as an upgrade item?
Just trying to think of some solutions.
I still reckon a skirmish event that opens a WP in the middle of the oasis for the winner would be fun.. and useful
Yo Anet team, just curious if there are any plans to change the availability of flax fibres. As the guild leader of a WvW guild, it’s getting seriously expensive to fund the scribing upgrades.
Current TP price is ~14 silver EACH.
So.. some ideas:
Reward track end chest with 100 flax fibres as an option to select from?
Increase the drop rate from WvW synthesizers?
Any other ideas people? And.. do you support this notion?
I think the following would be a huge improvement to tactivators.
Emergency WP – if used while keep is not contested, player who uses it gets booted out of WvW for 2 hours, and lands in some contested cathedral in Orr.
That is all
Love the idea of a log on tactivators.
Click Bait got me :p
I’d love to see crafting stations in guild halls. It would help consolidate the enormous amount of time and effort people put in to upgrading them, and making them a really viable place for guilds to hang out and do “stuff”.
If Anet decide to do this, I’d also like to see it as auto upgrade at a certain level (maybe it goes with “Further Exploration” upgrade, not another huge material sink.
Agree with OP, but not remove player limit for all.
Sentry cap, camp cap, and dolyak escort should def be single player requirement.
With repeatable access for guildies who have not completed, this gives a way for single/duo’s in guild to get their commendations at their own pace, esp if they do not have regular “prime” playtimes.
The current system punishes off-peakers and small guilds.
Hey guys, below is a list of upcoming polls you are likely to see, in roughly the order you are likely to see them.
Mixed Borderlands – No, but monthly rotation would be fine, if DBL towers more strategic. In some ways I do prefer the DBL (post rework) than the current Alpine ones. I don’t know how you would mix them and keep the playing field level, they have such different qualities.
World Linking Schedule – A short enough time to discourage bandwagoning.
Deployable Mortars – Inside structures only? Maybe with special condition of outnumbered buff present? with limits on how many can be placed? .. but generally, no. It would be good to have control over where they were placed in the structure, so those massive aoe meteor showers were less effective.
Deployable Cannons – As above.
Repair Hammer – Yes, with condition of outnumbered present.
Special Mention
WvW Priorities – Really liked the squad functionality ideas posted above by Woop S.
Some investigation into blob lag would be helpful as a priority.
Dearest Anet
Do we have any plans at all to allow upgrading of siege in the Mystic Forge happen in bulk?
I can’t see that it makes any advantage to the game to be able to do this. It’s not precursor farming. It’s just a thing I have to do for my guild and upgrading siege is just a recipe combo. Currently, it takes a lot of time that I would prefer to be spent playing the game, and quite frankly and honestly, it hurts my hands. Please fix/change? Even if just for this type of forging?
Thanks for the new function that allows stuff to be bought in bulk from vendors.. it’s a step in the right direction.
Iron guards on north camps feeding 3 structures? Yes, 3G was worth it, especially when you are outnumbered during “ze nightcap”.
I’m not happy with this change either. It’s the stacked servers who have the numbers to run sniping roamers 24/7 anyway.. so nerfing this just gives them another advantage. You still had to protect it until the upgrade was available to be slotted anyway. If you got it that far, Iron Guards was a reward to the defender of camp… you know.. so they could not be locked to a camp forever.. and you know.. spread out round the map a bit more.
Deso and Vabbi are already bandwagoned.
This was my question actually….. Do 2 linked servers have potentially x 2 the population as a single server? So you have Deso which is already a big server (with loads of sleeper accounts of people taking a break from GW2) teamed up with Vabbi who I guess was basically empty pre patch. But then transferring to Vabbi is cheap so all the bandwagon people go there… so they have more than 2 x the potential population of my server (Piken)….
^^ This is my question also. For Piken right now, it feels like a bit of an unbalanced mess. Will linking changes be made and experimented with during the Beta? If not, the Beta probably needs to be re-evaluated asap. 3 months of this present state will kill the game.
Yes.. move them to the guild halls!
Of course! Lock more kitten behind HoT. Maybe it will sell better.
You can access guild halls without HoT.
Well, if you don’t belong to a guild with a guild hall, then use a capital city.. not locked behind HoT at all.
AFK/crafting on BL’s is hell with full queues and zone blobs.. those 15 people sitting there make a difference. Bank access could remain, ofc. We also now have the WvW Provisioner Item for cheap emergency food, or TP.
And yes, PVE people do use wvw crafting to avoid wp costs. No doubt about it.
I can’t think of any good reason to keep crafting stations in wvw.
No. In WvW many many people are reporting this issue, even people who live right next to the servers in EU. It seems to have arrived with the reversion to the Alpine BL’s OR the server linking that is in Beta for changing populations. Perhaps the maps just can’t handle the full zone blobs that have resulted.
It’s probably difficult to isolate the issue due to 2 large changes being made so close to each other. But its a real and ongoing issue, and needs to be investigated/ evaluated quickly.
Yes.. move them to the guild halls!
It’s not just you.. game as been almost unplayable for me.. especially in wvw. Ping spikes of around 2,700 regularly when engaging in any kind of combat.
Ah such nostalgia.. I love them.. ty Anet
I’d have to “pass out” (lol) approximately 202 individual stones to even break even. And that would be crafting the station with raw ingredients. If I paid the TP price for the station at the moment, I would have to pass out 370.
Definitely not competitively priced. Not even a little bit worth it.
Food trays on the other hand, are reasonable.
Resurrecting this.. just investigated these fort he first time.. and really anet? This item is exhorbitantly expensive to make and time-gated. Compared to trays of food, I can’t see the logic. The recipe is also very expensive to buy.
I’d like to use these to support my server in wvw.. but it feels really too expensive to be worth it. Any plans on reducing cost here or changing recipe a little?
Interesting. I play from Australia on EU wvw servers and use WTFast as a VPN. I’m keen to see if I can use this program to check that connection.. but how would I go about it?
Any instruction appreciated. Thanks
I’d prefer the old wp system back, earned through manually triggered upgrades, T3 only, and usable by whoever holds them. At least there was some Home Borderland pride and motivation in the old system. And the challenge of going to attack an enemy borderland when it was locked down well was a far more thrilling adventure that brought great fights and strategy.
Emergency wp’s would still be useful when WP’s are contested. They cost enough to unlock and scribe as to be used sparingly.
Over the past week, I have had problems with guild chat, /w, /squad chat. The odd thing is, I’ve had intermittent problems with guild chat before, but other modes have been preserved. The current problems with /w and /squad are new.
And yes, I know how to use guild chat
I too have been experiencing big problems since last patch. Skill lags and rubberbanding in wvw yesterday on the borderlands were so bad, I could not play the game. This was particularly evident when more people, both friendlies and enemies were in the vicinity.. and engage in a fight? forget it.
I use a vpn as I play from Australia, it shows no issues on my end. Even so, I cycled my router and rebooted the whole thing anyway, and it made no difference.
Ingame ping shows very different reading to my vpn. Regular readings in excess of 1.5 secs, sometimes 3.9 secs.
I thought perhaps it might be due to upcoming changes to borderlands, as other people playing from europe have reported similar issues, intermittently, over the past week.
Money earning idea..
Account wide WvW bag plx.
I’d rather see a fight for a new central temporary WP, near sth end of oasis would be great. Would be worth fighting for and advantageous for both defence and attack without making keeps a walk in affair after being won. Something like a cap and defend point… I dunno.. just an idea
Thank you for removing this Anet.. now we can play wvw better. . better still.. remove all those knockback dinos from the centre and rolly polly ones.. so we can actually run through the oasis quickly to defend a tower…..
I know the event was supposed to be helpful, but it backfired.. and helped nightcapping enormously.. we are better off without it.. forever.
It would probably be informative to set up some kind of a poll/vote (regulated by account log in) where the suggestions in the other thread are listed, and people get 5 votes each.
The other thread is just getting unwieldy and repetitive. The purpose gets lost in all the chinwagging… xD
Friday.. all the way.
My guild has the Lost Precipice. Completing the buildings definitely improves the “feel” of the guild hall. The L40 “Further Exploration” unlock completes all bridges and adds another WP to access additional areas (although, we were able to access the ‘hidden areas’ via gliding and a bit of tinkering making jumping puzzles long before that upgrade).
Shared, dedicated siege bag.. hands down.
Great News Anet, thanks for your efforts on these initial changes.
The rally mechanic change will be great, the reduced cata costs will be great, dollies needed for upgrades will def engage a lot of the old roamers again. As for rezzing downed, that will be interesting, cos it will reward the players who are on the ball and paying attention, and will penalise mindless zerging. PPK will be welcomed!
One thing.. any chance of removing those pesky enemy npc’s spawing in keeps who activate swords and the closure of wp’s? So incredibly annoying, and hopefully not a difficult fix?
Looking forward to the changes and further engagement from Anet’s WvW team.
Is Anet really reading this Archon?
I’m going to respond to your queries in terms of how each thing makes me feel, and why. Mostly people remember how something makes them feel, and right now, the feels are not good for the new WvW.
Describe a typical hour for you in the Alpine Borderlands in the past. For example, What size of group were you running in? What kind of tasks did you run? What activities did you do?
- Feeling happy, running around with a party of 5, off-peak. Mix of fights and PPT.
Compare your experience described above with a typical hour spent in Eternal Battlegrounds, if you went there at all. Does your style of play change between the 2 maps?
- Only went to EB to support off-peak when asked. EB was never my cup of tea. Too much lag generally, and blob fights aren’t fun for me.
Compare your experiences described above with an hour spent in the new borderlands.
- Hard to to rally a party of keen people, so feels like hard work, and is frustrating. I also get lost quite a bit, which erodes my confidence to tag up. If I tag up, and get lost, I feel embarrassed, so I tag down or don’t tag at all. Only been in new maps 2 weeks in between the horrendous PVE grind required for Guild Hall upgrades, even the simple basics. Heavy Supply bags?? WHAT??
Describe the nature of combat in the borderlands in the past. How have the new borderlands impacted this paradigm for you? What style or build changes might it cause? For example, knocking people off cliffs or into lava might play a more important role.
- Fight mechanics are definitely more interesting… if you can find a fight. Oasis event has burned people very quickly. Grindy with a small group, or solo. And if you can’t do it, you basically hand your BL to the enemy night blob, thus nightblobbing is worse than ever.
Feels annoying and frustrating.
In your experience, compare the time it takes take a structure or objective here, then it did in the past.
- Really difficult with a small group, esp with supply restriction (no +5) and size/complexity of maps (long runs to supply camps a lot of the time) and nerfed guild cata sup requirements. Feels.. disheartening.
How is the loot and wxp for you compared to in the past? Will it be able to sustain whatever you are doing? Did it take a hit, or was it improved? If you are planning to unlock an elite specialization, do you think you were helped or hurt in these regards?
- Loot seems slightly improved, but not the right kind of loot for wvw upgrades.. see.. heavy supply bag requirements for basic unlocks. Massive frustration there.
Do you think you could pursue any other in-game goals just by playing WvW?
- Not really, it’s actually hard to pursue wvw goals at the moment.. really feeling like wvw offers me nothing other than nostalgic times with old mates who bother to log in to it at the moment.
How will the map change impact the long sessions (multiple hours) you spend in WvW?
- The map changes have made the WvW experience feel a lot more PVE oriented. If I wanted to play PVE, I would make that my focus. But I don’t, outside the PS and basic map exploration, PVE is boring for me.
In 100 words or less, describe how the new BLs could be improved.
- Auto upgrades to T2 and T3 should take longer to reflect the amount of effort required to breach them. Would also be better if they had to be manually triggered.. the auto is lazy and unfair. Add a way to the game for WVW players to get the materials for the basic upgrades (Heavy Supply Bags.. for example), or significantly reduce the requirements. Make the Fire and Air Keep WP’s accessible by whoever owns the keep. This would significantly help with the “getting around a huge map” aspect, as it is highly problematic at the moment. Impossible to run and defend easily. No wonder people flocking to EB.
In 100 words or less, describe how the borderlands work to a new WvW player.
- New WvW players seem to consistently report feeling overwhelmed.. risk of “too hard basket” unless taken underwing by vets to explain the basics. The new complexity of path-finding and mechanics is daunting to new players. It is also not rewarding enough compared to the HoT content, Raids and Fractals.
In 100 words or less, describe how the borderlands work to a veteran WvW player that is new to the maps.
- It feels like a loooong run each time I go in, even with speed buffs.. the paths and distance between viable objectives is too far. Withe the BL empty, the fun of fights is practically gone.. maybe you find some fight in the oasis during event, but then you getting knocked down by the dinosaurs.. god.. it makes me grind my teeth in frustration.
Which map am I most likely to find you currently, if you’re on Gw2?
Right now? Verdant Brink, farming crap for my guild, so I can get back to WvW. Looks like WvW is pretty dead for me and many others for quite a while. Massive shame, as the new maps have the potential to be quite good, even superior to the old ones, with some simple changes to time efficiency (scribing, defending, running around, clearer mapping, guild hall upgrading, oasis event, .. the list goes on and on).
Please listen to your players Anet, we’ve been loyal, we understand it hard to get it right, but please listen to what people are saying, or this part of the game will die.. and you’ll lose many many people. (They are already leaving in droves from what I see). Right now, time in WVW on the BL is not time spent having fun. It’s downright frustrating.

Just wondering if there have been any changes to custom arena discussed given the impending guild hall ability to scrimm privately with other guildies.
I really want a place to practice and duel with my mates without having to spend a potentially wasteful 200G on a thing which may be redundant in the near future.
So.. will custom arena set-up change? Will it still have any advantages over the new guild system? Or will it be removed from the game?
lol xD If only that were the problem!
Over the last week, my mesmer gets “stuck” in place a few times an hour. Usually after using Blink or sometimes Mindstab. Can use blink to move around, but character is stuck in place otherwise. Using WP does not fix, and weapon swap does not fix. Only thing that fixes it is relogging WVW.
Its a very annoying bug, and I’m wondering if others have been experiencing more of this lately?
Playing in EB just now, Piken-AR-RS matchup. Worst lag I’ve ever had.. hanging skill lag and DC issues. Not even peak times. Unplayable for me.
That could work… but commanders would simply request their zerg not to hit doors.
I’m most concerned with a blob being able to melt 2 doors of a T3 structure in about 2 mins flat. They are simply going down too fast. Even if the keep is fully sieged, it can’t be saved.
Servers seem to have taken different strategies with this change. One strategy is to turn wvw into one big pvd flipping game. Get one huge zerg and just reset everything. Result? Server with highest numbers wins every single time. The defence game becomes completely pointless. The alternative strategy is to break into smaller groups and try multiple objectives at once, but what’s the point if it’s all destined to be paper forever? No need to worry about dolyaks at all, cos the only place to get supply is freshly flipped camps.. ^yawn^
I’m asking for this kind of buff, or something to mitigate the absence of white swords, otherwise, I might as well go play EotM ….. :/
Maybe WP’s need to remain open, or something.. the whole business is putting me off wanting to play wvw.
I dunno.. I see the potential in no white swords, but it’s (more) unbalanced right now imho.
(edited by Terrier.8732)
Although a lot of people have complained about removal of white swords for the “Sneak Attack” experiment, it seems to me that it has some advantages in encouraging attacking of multiple objectives, by smaller groups. Problem is, it still doesn’t disadvantage a zerg.
If Anet decide to keep this change, I suggest a further buffing to upgraded walls and doors, to ensure that keeps that have been upgraded by players spending a lot of time and effort (and coin) are harder to take by a 30+ zerg.
This would reward a server for spending effort on defence, and make it a bit harder for those door/wall melting blobs to get a foothold before a scout can call for help. At the moment.. there is simply little time to respond, even if a call goes out immediately from a scout.
@ svarty
Piken is a silver league server. We have been more organised during this season and this is what you’ve been seeing, but I think Talindra is also interested in out of season stuff, and I happen to play at the same times as Talindra. Piken gets mashed against gold league servers, we just don’t have the coverage, hence the small roaming teams that come into their own, especially at the time I play.
Hey Talindra,
I play OCX timezone too and am on Piken. We have lots of fun running small roaming groups on borderlands and there is usually a reasonable presence on EB. Feel free to whisper me ingame if you want to chat more
lulz @ fsp concerned about cheating.
Yes, the resolution would definitely be an issue. But I wonder if, when commanders tag up, as you say, they had a little dialogue box to enter details of group such as:
Open Raid
Closed Guild Raid
Havoc squad
Roaming Group
(insert class) Fun Raid
or even for Pve commanders e.g., :
Teq Group 1
+ guild logo of commander
etc.
And then, this dialogue would show up if tag was moused over on mini map or map. like a simple “pop up” similar to what is seen on the wvwintel site.
That would really increase communication on the map, allow commanders to control the kind of raid they want to run, and solve the current commander tag issues.
Hope the devs read this, as I don’t think this approach has been discussed before (but I could be wrong).
If they do eventually do this (and they might) it would be great if the tags included a guild emblem, or even, maybe.. were the guild emblem. This would solve the need for colours etc. and maybe even help with recruiting.
That would be great, but I dont think the resolution is high enough to make the guild emblems. You could have a dolly icon though, heh. A simpler solution IMO is the ability to name your commander tag (show on map, not minimap).
That way you can write short notes like “[LOL] Open raid” or [HAHA] Guild raid" or “Havoc”. You could have 5 commanders on the map and instantly see who’s who. Even if they are all the same colors and icons.
