I don’t know if you’re complaining about confusion or glamour. Glamour is a very specific spec and sacrifices a lot of survivability by offensively tossing utilities that can potentially do zero damage.

I keep seeing condition mesmers confused for glamour and they’re completely different.

I believe OP was posting specifically about “glamour mesmers running pure confusion builds.” Most likely referring to traits that blind/confuse on placement and confuse when foes enter/exit glamor fields.

Maybe you shouldn’t be taking your ranger to group wvw? But I thought this was a thread about how OP confusion mes’s were in group wvw, not how bad rangers were in them. (Which, I think is a serious issue. And I’m not saying rangers suck across the board, they definitely have their place)

To the topic at hand, good confusion spreads with epidemic require both passive build and active team coordination; Thus, oddly enough, dealing with it requires the same. Adapt to the meta, pack more condi removal, and bring null field mesmers and well necros of your own to deal with it.

They actually can get exotic gear from wvw with karma orr gear and/or turning in badges. It just takes longer.

Point was that it did not take “endless hours” in pve, only two weeks, and that includes levelling 0-80, which you could do in wvw, just takes longer. Compared to other games, this seems to be a laughably low amount of effort on your part.

Yup thats correct, FOO were on the server even before BWE1 I think, possibly even before the server was actually turned on, they are that good.

Wrong, FOO was on ET (they were part of Ascencion Alliance) however when ET collapse they choose to bandwagoning to the current #1 server at that time which is JQ

How do you NOT detect sarcasm in a statement including “before the server was actually turned on” ?

And we weren’t #1 until the week after all the “bandwagoning” ended…

Shame it isn`t like Guild Wars.
If something was needed patching, you got a message saying it would patch the next time you started the game.
Fairly sure pre-release they said it`d be the same for gw2 /shrugs
Understandable if it was something urgent, but otherwise…

GW1 was instanced; In GW2 instances, this is exactly what happens.

Have fun getting a Rabid light armor chest. That alone was around 18g on the trader the other day.

Rabid stats can start being earned at lvl 55 by farming TA. I stand by my claim that you can get full rabid gear, while levelling 0-80, in under two weeks through a combination of TA farm and Karma Orr gear.

Also: ascended items give 8-30% higher stats than exotics. So yeah, they are/will be mandatory when more slots are available.

Like I said, a can o wurms I’d rather not discuss. I don’t like that ascended gear even exists but Anet has to appease the pve scrubs whining about gear progression somehow.

The good news is you can earn it by spending less than 20mins a day completing dailies/monthlies, and Anet has indicated it will be acquirable through wvw eventually.

I’d also point out that Anet went ~5 years into gw1 without really providing any benefits whatsoever for gvg except kitten size. So, frankly, I’m glad to get any sort of rewards.

I don’t think people want rewards so much as they want to compete / fight on an even playing field. I would wager large sums of money that the over whelming majority of people playing WvW could care less about any rewards they may get and only ask for the " rewards " so they can be equally geared with every one else and not have to waste countless hours in PvE.

You can level and gear a character from 0-80 in full exotic gear in <2 weeks in this game, assuming you’re not power levelling with crafting. This seems unparralledly easy to me.

They only thing that can take “countless hours” would be ascended gear (which i assert is unnecessary but thats a whole nother can o wurms), but you can get those from dailies now (which takes ~20min a day, often earned easily in wvw), and Anet has indicated will eventually be able to be earned from wvw.

Just remember that server updates causing wvw to shut down is clear proof that Anet secretly favors [Insert hated WvW opponent here].

The real question is, what do you propose to do about it? New updates have to happen, and it’s not like WvW can magically continue to function without it?

And what would a warning accomplish except to prolong the amount of time you’re given to whine about it?

The point was not that every server in t1 always has full queues on all maps during primetime. The point was that they had the potential numbers there: the assertion that SoS or SoR are hopelessly outmanned by JQ during NA prime time is either false, or now true due to people giving up (i.e. lacking tenacity).

Patronizing armchair general is a waste of time.

I was waiting for this argument; This discussion was about how SoR should be behaving when they are seeking fights, which is NA primetime (since it’s been well established that they have 0 people on at any other time QQ for them, life’s so unfair, etc. etc.)

No server gets to t1 NA without queues on NA primetime, this argument is irrelevant to this particular discussion. If you lack numbers on primetime that’s a problem with your server’s tenacity, and you don’t belong here.

I apologize for lumping all of SoR into that claim, certainly just because I’ve never seen a choo or TW commander leading anything but a ton of other choo or TW + accompanied (PC Term) “militia,” doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen: anecdotal evidence is rarely relevant.

The point was that if SoR wants even fights, they needed to learn to split single guilds into multiple BL’s, to match their opponents movements, instead of just whining about their opponents not wanting to fight. They’ll get their fights, and they might actually get some PPT too.

Speaking for myself, I think its more fun to have even, challenging fight than to fight doors. Points dont matter cause you dont win anything. Having more points than someone is not entertaining. FIghting them for an hour to defend a tower is.

Then SoR should be adapting, splitting up into smaller groups when the fight calls for it, and fighting the enemy where they go, having your even fights in smaller groups. Not simply complaining when some of your enemy disappears and calling them cowards. I’ve seen single JQ guilds do this multiple times, leaving a main force of 20-30 on one map, and sending 10 to organize pugs on another. I’ve yet to see Choo, TW, or any other SoR guild employ this kind of flexibility.

Well obviously it’s going to depend on a lot of factors. With a paper tower/keep you’re not going to be able to stray very far. If the enemy has a large force and been messing with you a lot, you’re not gonna want to stray very far, etc. etc. On the other hand, on a map without much enemy presence or with fully fortified stuff you’ve got a bit more leeway.

With some favorable factors I don’t see how a scout can’t effectively do his job while doing simply things like flipping a sentry or quaggle. You’ll still get white swords, at which time the scout can run back and likely get there before any real damage has been done to defenses.

Well if we leave it’s either

1. we’ve already won the match and are just running XP/Karma trains
or
2. SoR’s concentrated all of its forces on one borderland in one giant amorphous blob, and since we care about PPT AND fights, one of the groups on the border splits out to another one to cap all your kitten.

This is called “strategy.” We routinely laugh our kitten off as your giant blob fails to cap anything more on this map while losing everything else your server owns. You may claim that your victories in your one big group mean you’re more skilled players, but some people may think that the ability to divide forces into smaller groups and cap more objectives is another indicator of server skill. Crazy, I know.

Dunno who you been fighting against, but when I fight with PRX, SF, or AoS, we don’t hide in keeps.

Unless we’re holed up in someones garry on another borderlands and they keep throwing themselves at us, we don’t really have the option of leaving at that point. Not that we’d want to, what with all the bags and all.

As already pointed out, i feel sorry for the additional number of people who have to scout because of this change.

That being said, it’s still a good change because it encourages teamwork and cooperation (i.e. skill) over the game holding your hand.

And there are plenty of things to do as a scout besides just standing there, you can scout out towers/keeps while flipping camps, ganking dolyaks/sentries, flipping quaggles, and so on. It’s not the most interesting stuff in the world, but you’re not simply “standing watch”

The sweet irony of anyone on SoS complaining about JQ’s SEA coverage. Can’t count the the number of times I logged on the next day to see any progress my group had made wiped aside by SoS’s Oceanics.

Beating a dead horse: Coverage is part of WvW. Superior coverage gets you fortified keeps. What I don’t get is if SoR really only cares about the fights like they’re so insistent on claiming, why such constant whining about PPT and coverage? Less QQ, moar pew pew.

For now it’s enough if you can show how to beat that thief with any other class than elementalist or thief itself.

All classes can handle killing thieves the same way, CC’s. A shatter mesmer can beat a p/d thief the same as any other class, be good enough to hit with F3 (daze AKA CC) + F1 and he pops like a zit.

That being said, mesmers are the worst class for condi removal so that’s probably the only mes build that can handle p/d thief, excluding running moa.

Hammer guardian can lock the thief in a ring of doom and then he’s pretty much boned, not to mention a guardian can easily shrug off the condi’s a p/d thief can inflict and outlast him

Warrior with good immob’s, knockdowns and so on can take advantage of those cc’s to get enough dps to take down a p/d thief, assuming the war has good condi removal like and wvw war should

Engi ult and other cc’s provides plenty of time to stack on dps/condis

etc. etc.

Necros and Mesmers, with their wells and null fields respectively, are great for group condition management.

Not to mention confusion mesmers and well necros are equally essential in group fights for their unparralleled aoe boon stripping

Also in protracted fights the commander should be taking a break every now and then to regroup, throw down some water fields and other heals, before buffing and reentering combat

I wouldn’t worry about it, the cries of “only the weekend matters” are usually from people who can’t accept that WvW is a 7 day long contest, not a 2 day long.

No one said “only the weekend matters”, everyone knows the match is 7 days long, the victor has the most points at the end of the week. People seem to be pointing out the best of WvW matches are on the weekend, which is true.

What they were saying was that the weekends should be given more weight because its fairer. And I was pointing out that they are not necessarily fairer because weekends introduce many more casuals than normal, and create difficult queues for stacked servers. I know not only JQ suffers from long queues on the weekends, which create serious organization difficulties.

I would argue prime times for each server is just as fair, if not more so, because shorter queues allow for better coordination and for organized guilds to get full numbers into the right maps. I know for a fact SoS and SoR are fully capable of producing full queues during NA prime time, so the PPT differentials during those times are going to be reflective of server skill and tenacity, not merely coverage.

Frankly all this talk about weekends being the end all be all of wvw is bullkitten. Weekends invite more casual pugs to play than normal, making queueing rough and preventing guilds from moving across borders to ones that need organization. Point is, weekends have their fair share of problems, especially for an overpopulated server like JQ.

Everyone has their prime time during the weekdays when their coverage is good. Man up, take your losses during your downtime (like JQ has done for 18 weeks or so before we got better coverage), and fight like hell when you can. I can only imagine the kittening from SoS and SoR if they had been in t1 against HoD. You guys really have no idea.

The fact of the matter is, an organized group can take on and defeat zergs twice their size with little difficulty, often using these very strategies that you argue favor zergs (coordinated buffing, stacking to mitigate aoe, not stopping to finish downed players, reviving their own quickly). Disorganized masses of people don’t use these strategies, and if they are, then they’re using teamwork and skill, and should absolutely be beating groups smaller than them. If you’re getting rolled by groups larger than you, you’re not doing it right, or they’re just good. end of story.

That being said, I will say that might stacks on fire fields is excessive, mostly when comparing it to other fields (3 stacks of might for 20 seconds vs. 3 seconds of retaliation on a retaliation field).

Anyone see themselves participate in the video, or recognize any participants? If so, may I have an opinion on what it’s like fighting this build?

Ask TW. One of their thieves has been running that build contesting SoR hills for the past two days. It has caused a fair bit of anger.

I also recall a lot of QQ’ing in EB a short while ago about a thief running that build ganking all our yaks. Fighting that build is nothing short of infuriating.
