From a point distribution point of view, I would definitely choose the ruby over the emerald. 25+15+15 points in the emerald versus 25+15+3% points in the ruby. This means that 5 points for 1% crit damage. If you look anywhere else, you sacrifice A LOT MORE than 5 points for 1% crit damage.

For an example, an exotic breastplate that gives 5% crit damage has an alternate version which gives 72 points of something else instead. This means you sacrifice 14.4 points for 1% crit damage. However, in the ruby jewel you are sacrificing only 5 points for 1% crit dmg.

Guild Wars 2 Guardian Might Stacking 2.5

Tinboy.7954

I’ve been doing this since September. This build works really well at PvE farming with tons of trash mobs but it blows in PvP and in dungeons. I combine it with the extra damage on burning targets with extra damage for every boon traits (without the block granting might trait). I find that I’m usually at around 20 might anyways so it is a waste of a trait. The downside of this build is that you die really easily so you need to actually be really good at dodging and using shelter.

Guild wars 2 ruined all other mmo's

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tinboy.7954

Pretty sure PlanetSide2 is doing fabulously.

The best part of GW2 is the dodge mechanic. I can’t play any other MMO that doesn’t let me dodge or evade attacks coming at me — and I’m not talking about using LoS like in WoW. I wish every game got rid of “hit chance”, and just let you either dodge it or not.

If you like it that much, you should give TERA a try. They just went Free2Play.

It’s actually an action MMO (unlike GW2 which just added Dodge), where you can dodge everything once you’re good enough at it. All attacks are skill-shots and hitboxes are more relevant in combat.

Lol, I tried it 2 months ago. I love PvP and I love how TERA is based around PvP. However, once you get to max level, NO ONE PvPs!!! It’s a good game ruined by a bad community. Also, due to the fact that you can player kill without any consequences is the dumbest idea ever.

Back onto topic though, GW2 did not offer me anything special. However, neither did GW1 when it first came out. So I am definitely expecting some major improvements like they did on GW1. One thing I don’t like about this game is that there is no world PvP. World PvP is amazing and always keeps you on alert. But seeing how loot is not based on who does the most damage, world PvP would probably be a bit dull since you are not fighting for bosses or anything.

Triforge Pendant (ascended)

in Guardian

Posted by: Tinboy.7954

Tinboy.7954

I was actually tempted at first; however, if you actually think about it and do the math, it is really not worth it. Right now I have more than half the materials to craft triforge but I think I might just sell all my mats or still try to get triforge but resell it.

The amount of total points triforge gives is nice but 50 of it goes into healing and 50 goes into condition damage. In my eyes, these two attributes are really useless cause their effects as opposed to power/precision/critdmg/toughness/vit are minimal (unless you are one of those people that go all out on healing, imo not necessary). Also, the 4% magic find is nice but you need to decide whether this is your farming or fighting amulet. Personally, I plan to have 2 amulets in which one is dedicated to farming with full MF and the other dedicated to damage/survivability.

If you take out these 3 stats, you would be better off with the amulets with concentrated stats.

tl;dr
If you plan to have a MF set and a fighting armor set, do not get triforge.
If you plan to have one set of armor, triforge might just be for you but I wouldn’t recommend it cause it’s 200g+. Rather just wait a month and get the same reward AND not use my gold.

What's the buzz on new professions?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tinboy.7954

possable also you could have a heavy armor spellcaster (Guards dont fit that role)

Yes, they really do. They use sceptres, foci, tridents and staves. They have spellbooks as elite skills.

… except for the fact that scepters, staves, tridents and spellbooks are all pretty much useless. I am a guardian and I only use a scepter because I am FORCED to use it for a ranged weapon. The auto attack is sooooooo slow and easily evadable. The staff is ‘ok’ but some skills are downright useless which makes me rather use a scepter and a foci instead. Tridents are completely useless other than the root skill. And spellbooks are a complete waste of time; super long CD and they aren’t even that amazing. I’d rather just summon a companion which will help me tank AND do damage. Or even use renewed focus and have a couple seconds of invulnerability. Spellbooks look good on paper but they are complete garbage in PvP and PvE.

Guardians are more of a ‘tank’ class than a heavy spellcaster. If Anet intended this class to be a heavy spellcaster, then they failed pretty badly cause it doesn’t feel that way at all. If they want us playing with the burning condition damage thus fitting the role of a “spellcaster”, then they should make burning stackable. 300 damage a tick is not exactly my cup of tea.

The "Inspect Gear" Discussion.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tinboy.7954

Personally, I would not like this feature implemented. It would cause the gear check drama for dungeons; I don’t do dungeons in this game but for other MMOs where there was the inspect gear feature, it was insanely hard to get in a group.

Furthermore, if someone finds a really good looking piece of gear and wants to show it off. That person should have the option of telling the other players what gear it actually is. This makes these ‘specialty’ items actually unique. Also, having inspect gear would also show your stats and some people do not like that. GW2 is not a good example since it does not have much build variety; however, in most MMOs people like to keep their own builds to themselves.

Tinboy.7954

There are always groups in MMOs that like an aspect of the game but not the other and vice versa. Usually these are split between PvE vs PvP players and casual vs non-casual players. You can’t satisfy everyone and there are reasonable and non-reasonable requests. Anet needs to make their own decision and pick only the good requests suggested by players.

For an example, SWTOR and bioware. I swear, they literally listened to every crying post on the forums and look where it lead them. They actually nerfed the least played class multiple times which makes absolutely no sense and they had game breaking changes like every patch as well.

Personally, I thought the ascended gear is a good and bad idea. You need something to do ingame and have ascended gear fulfills that but Anet needs to keep in mind that there are PvP and PvE players. Also, the fact that WvW (pvp) uses PvE gear and having ascended gear acquired through PvE only makes no sense.

Solutions to the complaints on the forum

in Suggestions

Posted by: Tinboy.7954

Tinboy.7954

After playing this game since launch and searching through the forums for a week now, many people including me seem to have the same issues with this game. These issues include:

1. PvP content is lacking.
2. PvP mechanics are lacking.
3. Ascended gear is a boring grind treadmill.
4. No sense of community.
5. The diminishing returns on loot in this game is too much.

How to fix them

1) Clearly, there are a lot of ways to improve this so I think it is kind of pointless for me to describe it. Just look at GW1.

2) It feels like I’m at an arcade spamming buttons right now. Some ways to improve the mechanics easily is to :

- add more skill slots or skills
- completely revamp the combo system, the effects are very minimal for people to bother with it right now.
- allow classes to wield more weapons, it creates more variety of builds.

3) Personally, I wouldn’t have added an extra tier of gear just because it is GW philosophy to not grind to compete; however, it is kinda late to take it back. Most people have a problem with the ascended gear because earning those daily/monthly achievements do not coincide with what they usually do in-game. This makes a difference because many feel the need to farm them but they cannot play the game they want to such as PvE as opposed to PvP.

Ways to fix this:
- Add a variety of ways to earn the daily/monthly achievement such as have a list of to-do lists and the player has to complete only 5 out of X amount of activities.

- Have a PvP daily/monthly that also gives laurels BUT the laurels goes ONLY to the achievement earned first. For an example, if I completed the PvE daily, I cannot get laurel from the PvP daily for that day. If I completed the PvP daily, I cannot get laurel from the PvE daily for that day.

4) The GW2 world feels very segregated atm because many maps are empty. I feel that Anet has been slowly noticing this issue thus that is why that added loot at lower levels that matches your level recently. However, there is another easily implementable feature that can help this issue.

Add a global chat for the server. If it cannot hold that many people, have separate global chat channels. There are so many benefits with global chat. It creates a sense of community especially for the lower levels who have no choice but to solo level. Also, for an example if Jormag is up, someone can call it and everyone will flock to the area.

5) Diminishing returns is there to prevent farming in one area too long which prevents botting. To efficiently farm, we can’t farm in one area too long; however, why is there a cost to travel to waypoints…? The price to travel from WP to WP should be removed. You want us to explore the GW2 world yet we get ‘punished’ for exploring new areas to farm. By removing this travel fee, more players have an incentive to explore. This travel fee does not have much of a purpose anyways. It is a money sink; however, there is already a bigger money sink out there which is the TP. Also, adding a global chat will also help this cause since people will generally tell others on global which event chains are up and running. This will get people to move from area to area.

Given that the point I could have read the news and known about the server transfer had already been made, what point is he making then?

1. Stop complaining cause Anet gave out a fair warning.
2. Get help from friends if you need it. The server transfer fee is not that much anyways.

To be honest, I don’t know why they don’t add a global chat for the server. They could at least have several channels if it’s too many people at the same time. Every MMO that I have played has always been more fun with that feature. The map chat I find is not too helpful since usually only a couple of people will reply to you if at all.

I mean, wouldn’t it be fun if people call out if Jormag is up etc on global chat? Now that is a sense of community since everyone would be pretty organized. 8-)

If they were such good friends, how did you disappear for a month, and not get informed of the server switch?

They are GW2 buddies. I don’t generally give out my contact information to anyone in games unless I have some other RL reason for wanting to be in contact with them. While not in the game, they had no way to contact me.

It’s kinda amusing that you are trying to argue a case for noone missing me in game. Is that really an argument you think is worth pursuing with a complete stranger? You’ve got no idea how many in game friends I have or what my relationship with them is, so any argument you will make will be based on no knowledge at all. I’ll be interested to see if you nevertheless barrel ahead with it.

I do not see why you quoted them as friends then. Some people I game with I still contact with them and I do not contact them in RL. We never said give them your phone numbers or anything, there is so many ways to contact through the internet without your contact information. Just a few ones I use are:

Steam
Skype
Teamspeak
Ventrilo

I did PvP in GW1 every so often. When I did, it was pretty boring. GW1 game play just can’t compare to how action-orientated this game is. So PvP is a lot more fun, imo.

Battles in pvp were always predicable in gw1. You pretty much knew if you were going to win within the first 10s of a match. If one player died on someone’s team, that was a clear single that the other team had the advantage and would win.

With GW2 there’s actually more variation to how one can overcome their foe. So even though someone went down during a match, that doesn’t mean the other team is going to win. It’s awesome to how it works now.

… battles were predictable in GW1….? Lol… what?

Um… You want me to take you seriously? “Tread” and/or “treat” has a completely different meaning than “thread”.

And back to my normal self.

There is a big difference between leveling in WoW and GW2. In WoW, you run through the levels as fast as you can to get to end game. All the content between is pretty much the same (with the exception of some of the dungeons and raids). In GW2, leveling is a main part of the experience. You aren’t meant to rush through it. When dealing with leveling, WoW is beer and GW2 is fine wine. With beer, you want to hurry up and get drunk. Wine you want to savor and enjoy.

Should GW2 have more to offer in the end game? Yes, I think it should. Do I expect it to happen instantly or even within the next few weeks? No. From what I understand, Anet is concentrating on the PvP aspect right now. Those players have been a bit neglected. Personally I can’t stand PvP, but I know there are plenty who love it.

There are just a few who like sPvP.

… just a few….? You mean like most of the GW1 player base? lol.

Another great post that will soon be lost with all the other great posts.

@ Wookalar, WoW didn’t invent all the rich features it has, it took features and made them better, or added to them. When WoW had /lfg people wanted a group finder, it took them a long time to actually put it in, but they did eventually do it.

People wanted LFG/D/R – No one wants to jump on with 2 hours to play and spend an hour of that finding a group.

Information about monster abilities was made by Blizzard? Strange, I remember this way back with pnp, hell even Poke mon has something like this I think.

I am not 100% sure on this, but I think WoW is also going to use scaling pvp and perhaps jumping puzzles? Does that make WoW GW2? If so then all those features would be a great addition to this game, again.

Dude he never said anything about adopting features = a bad thing. It’s the gear grind idea that is a turn off cause that goes completely against the GW philosophy. Every game needs to have some kind of uniqueness attached to it and the GW franchise has always been “no gear grind”.

If you want the game to be more like WoW, I think you know what game you should be playing.

Hint: it’s WoW

GW2 isn’t WoW and I shouldn’t adopt its gear grinds. GW2 is its own game.

GW2 ~100.000 players at its daily peak after 5 months (I am guessing)
WoW ~ 2.000.000 players at its daily peak after 8 years (guessing)

Even though I am guessing, I think it’s pretty accurate. So someone is doing it wrong…right?

….. and at the end of the day, GW2 is still GW2 and WoW is still WoW. The GW franchise is oriented towards PvP while WoW is oriented towards PvE, the gear treadmill is completely unnecessary. However, in the PvP content aspect, you are correct. There is hardly anything for PvP and this is supposed to be centered around PvP.

How do you feel about the combat system?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Like I have said in other threads, the PvP system is too simple and feels like an arcade game. Considering what they have already implemented, they can add a layer of depth into this game easily by severely revamping the effects of combo fields. Right now, combo effects are seriously very minimal considering how much teamwork/communication is involved. They need combos to make enough of a difference to affect the outcome of a battle for an example, certain combo fields would produce say quickness. Like seriously, some of these combos are so dumb. For an example, retaliation for 3 seconds or vulnerability or might x3 for 20s. For something like a combo, these effects needs to be upped big time for people to even bother with it.

Everyone I game with has stopped playing GW2 for either one of two reasons. The PvP system is too simple and there is not much end game (grinding legendary can hardly be end game, it’s at the level where it’s so grindy that people give up before they start). There is actually some content now which is why I returned but the PvP is still lacking.

What they need to do is deepen the PvP mechanics. Right now it feels like I’m at an arcade just spamming buttons. The combo idea is very nice but the implementation of it fails hard. There are several reasons for this and one obvious one is that there is actually no tutorial telling you how it actually works (at least not when I started to play). Many people don’t even know about the combo system or even how it works. Furthermore, the advantages of the combos are so minimal that most of the times it feels like a waste of effort to even communicate with your teammates. Anet really needs to revamp the combo effects to force people into using combos thus adding depth to the PvP mechanics. Another way to deepen the PvP mechanics is to obviously add more skills and skill slots. Yes, limiting me to 3 skills forces me to think about which skill is better but during pvp, having only 3 choices of skills to use other than the main skills makes it feel very dull and boring.

what should be a daily\monthly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tinboy.7954

Tinboy.7954

It’s a problem because these daily/monthly does not coincide with what casual players usually do. I don’t know if you have noticed but dungeons (ie. monthly) are not what casual players do on a daily basis. Most casual players just log on, do some WvW and then logs off. This creates a problem because non-casuals will farm the ascended gear and you will have exotics vs ascended in WvW at some point. I say just make a WvW daily/monthly and have it linked to the PvE daily/monthly. For an example, if you finish a WvW daily, you cannot finish PvE daily for that day. This makes it fair since WvW uses PvE gear so we should be able to farm it as well doing WvW.

What is actually casual? For some, they believe 2 hours a day is casual while another person would thinks that’s hardcore.

There’s casuals out there that don’t do WvW, and just does one dungeon a night, hell there’s even casuals that don’t do anything but chat in LA\guild chat\friends for a bit than logs off. One person’s casuals is another’s hardcore and vise versa.

IMO this is not about casual vs hardcore, this is about filling everyone’s needs, and some times that’s not possible no matter how close you get it, because everyone has a different opinion on what they consider fun.

Well the main point is that you should at least try to fill everyone’s needs. Right now, they are quite far from it with the introduction of ascended gear. Usually in an MMO, there are PvP players and PvE players. Right now PvE players are satisfied but the PvP players are left hanging especially since WvW uses PvE gear.

New ways to acquire laurels

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tinboy.7954

This is somewhat frustrating. GW was focused on PvP which most people loved. However, GW2 keeps adding in PvE content when people want PvP content. I mean you can add the laurel system in WvW so easily yet they try to force us to do dungeon runs for the monthly. The dungeon runs aren’t even fun and you also need a group to do them. Dungeon runs are probably the dumbest thing ever introduced to the MMO genre. What happened to do open world pvp for boss drops -_-; the closest thing this game has that combines PvE and PvP elements is WvW. At the very least, add the laurel system in there.

How do you feel about this update?

I’d have to agree with OP. This turned into an instanced dungeon grind game which is what I hate most in a MMO. I like having extra stuff to do but limiting me to do 1 daily and 1 monthly isn’t going to work. For one, I know a lot of players including me hates dungeons so we aren’t going to do the monthly. Yet the monthly is worth 10 laurels which is quite a ridiculous amount, that is 10 dailys worth. I know you guys are gonna be like “then don’t do the monthly” BUT that isn’t my point.

My point is you should have MULTIPLE WAYS to achieve laurels. Not everyone has fun the same way. I don’t mind taking 15 minutes to do daily but forcing me to do dungeons is kitten I’d rather be pvping and having fun while I improve my gear, not grinding inside dungeons like a chore. Imo, you should somehow incorporate earning laurels in WvWvW. PvPers gets to improve their PvE gear (since you pvp in your PvE gear in WvWvW) while they actually get to have FUN.

Any half intelligent player can see you casting and would either dodge out of it or DPS you like mad while you cast. Every time I succeed in trapping the foe in sPvP, the foe has already DPS’ed me down to at least half my health while I cast the skill. In either case, it is still a lose-lose situation when you intend to trap the foe cause the ward lasts 5 seconds and now I have to heal myself back up which takes time yet again and a potential heal. The only situations I actually benefit from this skill is when I block off foes at choke points by pre-casting; however, you can clearly see the skill is intended for both blocking/trapping like it describes in the description; the skill clearly needs some tuning if this skill is intended to trap foes as well.

When a huge portion of players uses one certain weapon, it says a lot. It is not a matter of design function, it’s more like there is a fatal flaw in almost every weapon except the greatsword. A defense/protection weapon should feel like a defense/protection weapon; when you gain minimal defense/protection by trading off a HUGE portion of your dps, there is something wrong. For an exmaple, symbol of faith on mace. Regeneration does not stack in intensity and barely heals and yet you have to restrict yourself in that radius where the symbol is to actually gain the benefits.

I understand they want different uses for different weapons but the tradeoffs are significantly biased towards greatsword by a far margin right now. For an example, hammer has been slightly improved recently but some skills are still terrible. One example would be the ring of warding, the radius is small and yet you are immobilized while casting it; it is near impossible to trap a foe in pvp like this which is supposed to be one of its purposes.

Guardians, How do you feel about the Hammer?

Imo, there are 2 major problems with the hammer after trying it out in PvP myself yesterday. The auto-attack skill is way too slow, I ended up not using this skill at all cause it’s so terrible; I just did the immobilize/burst and switched to GS. Also the ward is a great skill BUT this skill needs to be able to be used while moving. There are supposed to be 2 uses for this skill which is to TRAP enemies or BLOCK them at choke points. It is near impossible to TRAP enemies in a fight atm cause you are bound to the ground and they can just run away while you cast that longkitten skill. The only time I saw using that skill viable was to use it at choke points to defend a node when I see a zerg coming in sPvP. I can’t even use it for running away cause it binds you to the ground. This is very inferior to greatsword skills which has a lot more viability.

Hammer is still not worth it imo. Only reason I see any real reason to use a hammer is for that chill since dps is lower than GS. Furthermore, it is too much to invest in the chill compared to other options. With a scepter/focus, I can immbolize the target for half the time and still be able to use the block on the focus. Not to mention I have to invest a ton of trait points to achieve this. Definitely not worth the investment.

Well I agree that Renewed Focus is a little underpowered right now. Removing conditions/break stun isn’t that appealing. Any decent guardian would already have the trait with remove 3 conditions on virtue of resolve at the very least rendering that addition quite useless. Imo, since Renewed Focus is usually used when you’re in a pinch anyways, it should grant you something like quickness as well for say 5-10 seconds or something. If not quickness, it should give you protection for 10 seconds instead. Since you’re in a pinch, this allows you to give a short burst of damage to end it quickly before you’re dead OR slow down the damage taken until your heal finishes its CD.

If you didn’t get gift of exploration and you are at 100% -> go to hom and chantry of secretes.

For the 7th time, went to the Chantry, no change. Thanks for reading the thread before making a suggestion

Read my post. Pretty sure I said it several times already and it was the exact problem I had.

100% world completion bug?

For those who has not gotten their world completion reward at 100% even after REVISITING the Chantry of Secrets, one or more of your zone rewards have gotten bugged so you will need to revisit that zone. This zone(s) appears to be most likely one of the major cities so go to Lion’s Arch and port to every major city from the Asura gates; this will most likely trigger the remaining zone reward and thus the world completion reward. If this does not work, you most likely need to revisit the rest of the PvE and WvW zones.

I don’t exactly remember what I got but they were all below level 50 and some had copper ores. Never got anything half decent in WvW zone rewards.

… 111% is not the max. Superior Rune of Traveler set gives another +50% and you’re missing out on the accessories/rings/amulet too. Also the food can go up to +40%.
