NA pvp team looking for a few more

Hey guys. I am currently part of a two-man team that consists of a dragonhunter and a thief / ele. The both of us have developed synergy, know how the other plays, and we have seen remarkable improvement between the two of us, despite only being a team for two weeks. When the season started, I will admit, we began thinking that we would never make it out of sapphire. We kept going, we counted on each other, and, as of yesterday, we are both now diamond.
We are currently looking for a few more players who are committed to the idea that, with enough practice, we WILL reach the top. The requirements are as follows:

-Rank 80 pvp players, just for verification you know how to play and have spent some time in pvp

-Know their class well enough to play effectively in a 1v1, or at least contest a point long enough for help to arrive

-Able to use teamspeak to communicate, or some other third party voip program.

-Easy to get along with. We can’t stand players that say “You’re bad noob go back to pve”, or something along those lines. We do, however, accept and welcome constructive criticism. Things along the lines of “Well something that you should try out is ….” is the preferred way to say things. Rudeness will not be welcome.

-Players who know that they aren’t pvp gods. This means you are willing to improve and know the areas that you can improve in.

-Are committed to building a team and sticking with it, even if we have to lose a couple to get where we want to be

-Most importantly, willing to accept a loss, as long as a lesson is learned from it.

We are usually active most nights from 8pm – 2 am cst.

Too skill based? Isn’t that the point? If everyone had the same skill level then what would the fun be? Even though build diversity is down the drain (which is one of the REAL reasons pvp is awful) if the game wasn’t skill based every game would be the EXACT SAME because your pug engi would be on the same skill level as someone like Five Gauge. The one of the only reasons I stay around is so I can improve my skill level, take that away and the player base goes with it.

I would definitely agree with this. If I were to play 4000 games on my main ( I am nowhere near that many) but I would rather not be grouped in the same category as a champion x. This would also give players another goal to work towards and make the game last longer

Your top 5 priorities for WvW-Overhaul

First off, thank you Gaile for being on the forums quite a bit lately. I seem to notice your signature everywhere as of late.

Now to the actual content. I feel wvw isn’t rewarding enough, pre-HoT I loved wvw because I felt I was accomplishing something. I don’t get that same feeling post-HoT.

1) Give us the option to vote on which bl we want for the week. This would give more options to the players (and players like having more options, not less), and allow for some collaborative strategy based on what your server wants. It doesn’t have to be every bl that week, just the one for your home team.

2) Re-instate the old upgrade system. I know that some people enjoy the current one, and the old one cost gold to use, but I pre-HoT I would solo the entire bottom half of a bl and upgrade it to full. It made me feel like I did something a bit ….. extraordinary. Now, if I take a camp I don’t get the same satisfaction of seeing it progress and thinking “I did this, I made a difference”.

3) Add more placeable traps to wvw. This would allow for more strategic play. For instance, if you could place a trap that made the player drop their supply or cause an AoE stun for a little bit (not long, but enough to be annoying) then the players would have even more options as to how they play.

4) Add destructible environments. You know that keep bridge in the southwest part of eb? See how there are enemies all over it? What to do…. I know! Blow it up! This would make defending objectives even more satisfying by forcing the attackers to focus on specific points of the objective. Or even better, give the attackers the ability to repair the bridges to allow more strategic play. Of course, some negative effect would have to be added to prevent the objective from staying down permanently. Perhaps make the supply come in slower.

5) Add a legendary or some other reward to wvw that you can only get by wvw. I know this would be tough because of the populations of some servers, but it would be something to look forward to, something that won’t be reset at the end of the week.

Anyways, that is what I would like to see in wvw, and I know that these changes would certainly make it more satisfying (for me, at least) to hop back into from time to time.

The point of having something legendary in pvp is to get more people into the pvp scene. The point of having the new legendary weapons (H.O.P.E., Nevermore, and Astralaria) are only obtainable by pve methods. If the wings were to be made accessible through pve, then the pve weapons should be made obtainable by pvp or other means. As much fun as doing Dragon’s Stand 1000 times is, I shouldn’t be forced to pve if you guys aren’t forced to pvp

To be honest, if you don’t know you probably aren’t ready, especially if you can’t see the utility in Rev. If I were deciding a team comp, then it would probably be rev, ele, necro, scrapper, and your free choice.

scrapper & tempest bunker meta needs to die!

Tempest alone makes matches bunker meta 2.0 , even if others are pure dps. It increases survival of others too much.

I hate to say it, but if they nerfed the team support then ele would definitely be unplayable. You don’t see them winning many 1v1’s and if you have them in a team fight you instantly win because of all the condi clear and heals. As much as I can’t stand to fight against one, what more do they bring to the table than team support? Nerfing it to the ground would make ele unplayable alongside thief / war, which would further imbalance the game

Traited obsidian flash is at about 30secs… 33 I think.

Then again though, why is stability a thing?

Without stab it would just be a contest to see who can spam the most cc, and believe me, we have enough of that flying around as is.

Search and Rescue

I had a feeling when I opened this thread that there would be some druid main defending the point.

The problem is it isn’t all that telegraphed when the everything else is going on around you. If I am focusing a reaper for instance, I am looking for shroud 5 or Chilled to the bone to happen, not some bristleback running to the downed player.

If you are playing s/d then your defense isn’t dodges or evades, it is your distance from the enemy. For example, if you are fighting a rev and he has his Glint heal up, your objective should be to get as far away as possible (but still be able to come back after the heal is done) because he will be on full offensive mode and if you’re lucky, he will waste some cooldowns on empty air. Use Dagger 4 when you are a distance, but don’t waste all of the initiative. When you are close, don’t spam 3, use it mostly for survival in the form of evades.

If you are playing d/p, your objective is to blind the other person and use stealth to your best ability. Using our rev example, while his heal is up go invisible and backstab him when the heal comes down. If he uses his reveal move on Dragon stance try to get him in a blinding field.

I would recommend Basalisk venom instead of Impact strike. Impact strike does have its moments, but Venom is a lot more useful for getting those first hits in (impact strike has a 2 second daze, which allows them to dodge, while Venom is stun, which prevents all actions with a cast time).

That is the tricky part of it, people were complaining about the long que times, so Anet had to make the que times shorter. But, as you pointed out, the players had to be less quality to achieve those lower que times. That is the price of having more games, and hopefully it will be better after ranked comes back

I will agree that thief dagger is a bit silly now, and it pushes s/d out on terms of dps. D/P already has the utility that S/D doesn’t have, such as headshot (1/4 second interrupt), Blinding powder (pulses blind) and the HeartSeeker stealth combo. I guess a small damage reduction to dagger auto could be okay, but not to the degree before the january patch

Mesmer balanced? lol?

They are pretty dead after the last patch.

paper says scissors op, rock fine.

this guy only plays the class that has countered mesmer for years.

Sorry, but I can have a tough time with mesmers, even as a thief. The support they offer in the form of cc is still useful. Many times I have tried to res / stomp and a mesmer comes along and hits Grav well, Greatsword 5, or shield 5 and interrupted it. The condi mesmers are still a viable counter to a thief through blinds and other conditions. On the rare occasion that I do play mes I feel I have a pretty decent chance against a thief despite me not knowing the class. What do you think needs to be done to make them balanced?

Warrior-

Overall pretty balanced, requires a bit of skill to pull off. One thing that I think could take a hit is HeadButt (beserker elite). The base damage (according to the wiki) says that it does about 1.9k damage. That is on a 20 second cd that breaks stun, fills adrenaline to the max, and stuns for 3 seconds. That is a bit too much imo. I think it could take either a damage nerf, increase the cd, or reduce the stun. It is a bit too much.

Another thing is Gunflame. I have many times run into a battle, been hit by a 13k gunflame, which really takes the fun out of the fight. I think it could use a slight damage nerf.

Other than those two things war seems pretty okay.

Seriously? I believe you need actually play warrior if you think the only thing it needs is nerfs.

Awesome, I wouldn’t know because I don’t play war, but how would you like warrior to be buffed without it becoming too overpowered?

So I was told that ranked was disabled for a month, for balancing purposes. Here is a list of thing that I feel need to be changed. Feel free to add on to the list. (So you guys know I am not opinionated, I only play thief)

Ele-

I feel the class is pretty well balanced right now, and is doing okay despite the removal of the cele amulet. However, I think that overloads should provide one stack of stability while channeling. This would make it more likely that they would actually complete the overload without making one trait mandatory. The boon provided by Harmonious Conduit could be something like protection to make up for it. Because they would have a better chance of channeling it, I think that the Air and Water overload (I don’t see the power in earth / fire overload) could do less. Air could do less damage and water could do less healing.

Mesmer-

This class seems to be okay, same old shatter burst combo. It still takes a good bit of skill to pull off, and I don’t think there are any “broken” mechanics in it right now. They took a big hit this last patch, but I think they are more balanced than they were before. If there is something notably broken about this class then feel free to share.

Necro-

Lets be honest, Necro is the new “cheese” of the season. I copied the build straight from metabattle, plugged it in, and killed people I don’t remember hitting. That is a problem. The base chill damage is a bit much, and should be taken down to about 75% of its current damage, at least.

Because the third auto on scepter corrupts a boon, I think that the third auto should have a slightly longer casting time, by about .25 seconds.

Engi-

Engi is another one of those “cheese” classes at the moment. Hammer has a bit too much offensive capability and defensive capability in one move. For example, Hammer 2 has a reflect and damage, hammer 3 has a damage and an evade, and hammer 4 has a block and damage. These skills need either a damage nerf, or a reduction in defensive uptime. Seeing a scrapper being able to 2v1 isn’t uncommon because of these 3 skills.

Sneak gyro got hit with a cooldown nerf, which was okay, but it wasn’t substantial. I think that the function is okay, but it shouldn’t be instant cast. I have had many games where a scrapper would go in for a res and while ressing used Sneak gyro to stealth the downed body, or I would cc him like crazy then he would use that and I would lose the target. This should have about a 1/2 second cast time.

Going to pull out my thief experience real quick, but Shadow refuge has a 1/2 second cast time, a 60 second cooldown, you can be cc’ed out of it, and it doesn’t follow you wherever you go.

Ranger-

Druid got by this last patch without too many scratches, besides the daze nerf. However, “Protect Me!” and “Search and Rescue!” are a bit silly. Protect me is a group stun breaker and cc on a 24 second cd (when traited). Its base cooldown should be increased to 45 seconds at the minimum. As far as “Search and Rescue!” is concerned, the utility of this is a bit ridiculous. The range is 1200, which seems a bit ridiculous. I feel that it should take a small range hit, maybe to 800. I am sure we have all had this issue with people in downstate teleporting out of combat. It gets very frustrating when their team has 4 druids all running this skill.

Can’t bring up druid without mentioning the pet. The amount of damage is a bit extreme. I look at the damage when I die and see that 13k was from the pet, and I don’t think that a passive should do so much in the way of damage. The fun part is, while the druid is in cele avatar, the pet is still doing this crazy damage while the druid is tanking everything. The pets need a nerf, period. But to compensate I think that some extra damage should be added to the staff auto. This would add a bit less passive play to the druid playstyle and they would trade off dps for healing when in cele avatar.

Thief-

Sorry ahead of time if I miss something or am a bit one-sided.

I think thief is okay, it is fulfilling the Assassin role that it was intended to have. However, I think that the daredevil dodges are a bit too powerful. I shouldn’t be able to dodge, do 2k damage, bleed like crazy, or run like hell, while evading attacks. I think that Bound (dps dodge) should take about a 20% damage nerf, Lotus training (condi dodge), should have the condi duration reduced, and Dash (Swifness dodge) should have the base swiftness reduced to about 7 seconds to prevent perma-swiftness.

Like I said, I main thief, so if I missed anything that seems obnoxious then feel free to add to the list.

Warrior-

Guard-

First off, True Shot. While it does have a fair casting time and is pretty telegraphed, it has far too much damage on a 4s cd. It is even more effective when they have you locked in one place, through Dragons Maw or Hunter’s Ward. I feel that the damage should take a nerf or cooldown should be a bit longer.

Test of Faith, instant cast, unblockable, instant cast, and dazes (if traited). I think that the damage is okay, you can dodge through it. The one thing that I feel is a bit annoying is the instant cast daze. I think it should either have a cast time or the daze trait should be modified to produce boons instead of dazing. I have many times began to res or stomp and been interrupted while the dragonhunter was either ressing or stomping.

Rev-

I think it is pretty well balanced, in the hands of a skilled player it can be pretty efficient, but in the hands of a new person, the skill level is obvious. The only thing that I see that could be changed is Unrelenting Assault. When it is active, I either have to spend my time dodging like crazy or take considerable damage. Damage is fine, the might on hit is okay, but I feel that the evade time should be reduced. This will prevent the defending player from having to waste more than one dodge to avoid the damage.

Other than that I think rev is pretty well balanced.

Like I said at the beginning of the post, feel free to add anything that you guys think is overpowered or underpowered. This is mainly a suggestion for the devs, but I would like to see what you guys think could be fixed as well.

The best counter to reaper right now might be a thief with the dash dodge (removes chill, along with another condi if traited right).
Another answer is probably with another necro, bounce the condis back to them.

That is a valid counterpoint, but I don’t think that having only two classes that work is very healthy for the game at all. I don’t want to see everyone in the game playing something they don’t enjoy, for the reason that what they love playing doesn’t work.
Also I want (like everyone else playing ranked) to get to the next division, see where I stand, and how I can improve from there. Losing pips on a win is worse than players tanking mmr because they don’t have a choice.
It isn’t fair to those who play their hearts out, are at the top of their game, then get hit with something as irritating as a movement bug ( I know it has been an issue for quite some time, but they still haven’t fixed it)
Point being that they really need to step it up and do something before they lose all of their pvp player base.

So I recently logged into HotM and noticed how there were a lot less players waiting for matches, and I can’t blame them. People losing pips after wins, having to fight a bunker Mesmer (which NEVER should have been a possibility), and having to fight other players that are tanking their mmr.
The game is great, don’t get me wrong. But the current state of the game is almost laughable, and I think even the f2p players are regretting getting the game. The bugs are breaking the game. I mean, if I can’t stomp a player after trying 3 times then why would I still play?
Anet, I appreciate all of the work that you put into the game, but I seriously think that you need to release a patch ASAP, even if it is mid-season, or I am not sure how many people will stick it out until January.
