So earlier today my friend said that he randomly got disconnected from the game and couldn’t re-log, so I figured it was a client side issue. Well just a moment ago, I got the same issue. I have 34mb/s download and a 8.14 mb/s upload, so I don’t think this is a client side problem.

If Anet reverts some of the things that they have implemented in the last year or so, then we might have a shot. Leaderboards were actually a legitimate way to gauge a person’s skill level (compared to leagues, anyways) and leagues are just a grind with no presitge.

Oh yeah, I think everyone does. That last patch (where wars got the adrenal health buff), everyone was freaking out like “Oh what got nerfed / buffed?” and the patch notes were unaccessible because everyone was trying to see. To me, it was more exciting than when HoT came out

Balance is not so bad actually, the big problem is the static meta. 3 Seasons in a row with the same builds (except for the RiP bunker mesmer), same weapon etc make PvP boring.
The meta is static since Arenanet does not want to break the PvE balance because of PvP, and we all know balance in MMO is there to create unbalance and healthy movement in the meta.
Balance is fine right now (except for dragonhunter, but even that isn’t too far behind). I definitely agree with your analysis of the “static” meta, but the powercreep in the game has pushed build diversity out of the picture. I was watching the WTS in Beijing the other day, and I noticed that OE ran pistol / shield and Five G ran rifle. Shield got pushed out of the meta because it had a reflect on a 30s cd (hammer has that on 6s and does damage) and a single target stun on a 40s cd. If powercreep weren’t a thing, we would see more engis running shield.
Another thing I noticed watching the WTS is that they both used supply crate (120s cd) and the elementalists ran FGS, a 180 second cd. Now if a skill has a cd over 50-60s it probably won’t see any gameplay, which should never be the case. Most skills in the game need to see some play for the game to be healthy, but that can’t happen if Thunderclap (scrapper hammer 5) does the same thing supply crate did but on a 30s cd.

All I want is less spammable boons & condis. It is pretty crazy right now. especially on top of all the passive.
Part of the power creep. I mean, part of the reason we never see shout guards anymore is because tempest can do that and heal for 2k with one button, and rev can do everything shout guards can (and more) just by standing there. None of this promotes skilled gameplay and is unhealthy in the long term.

Well i’m pretty sure that if they don’t do something about it next season then the pvp playerbase will completely disappear (because grinding to legendary 4 times will not keep players playing the game). Anet needs to keep in mind that people play for fun, and sure, balance is a part of that, but if a person who’s played 1000 games on a class is as good as a person who’s played 100 because the spec carries, then there is a problem.
Why am I saying this? Because this meta is the most stable we have had since HoT release and I don’t think Anet has the balls to risk breaking it, even if this meant making the game more fun by reducing powercreep.
Good point. The problem with them getting to a balanced meta is that they only patch once every 3 months or so. They could easily get to a fair meta within a month or two if they abandoned this policy of actually doing something every 3 months and patched every 2 weeks or so.

Changing the trait system on June 23rd. It drastically lowered build diversity and creativity, which is part of the reason we see everyone running the same builds.

Or just anything in general instead of memorizing every square inch of HoTM. Really, if people could duel while they wait, people would understand the mechanics and enjoy the game more. Especially those pve players who find it pointless to stand around for 10+ minutes when they could have made tons of gold in that time.

As much as I would love to see more skillful play involving conditions, that would do zero to help with build diversity. So you get a catch 22, kind of. Reduce the condition output of classes, and you reduce build diversity, but you get more active play. Do nothing, and players continue to get condi bombed. Pretty sure there is a happy medium in there somewhere.

For example, all modern armies run the same AR-something build and nobody complains.If somebody wanted to make a different build nobody forbade them yes?
But removal of cele had wrecked my hybrid mes so it actually lowered build diversity for me. Elementals are still crying to this day.

Agreed, they had this back in the day (and I don’t know why they took it out) but they said they cant because when people changed maps they would have to step out of que then re-que after. Honestly, I would have zero problem with this, and that would help get all of those pve players more into pvp. I really hope they do, it is obvious that the player base wants this as a feature.

Yup, it’s a real problem.
Even with the small handful of people who are still active in-guild and from my contacts list, they rarely want to play together, due to how the pip system encourages segregation between differently skilled players.
I haven’t even played much lately to be honest.
Hell it’s been almost a week since I logged in.
All these compounded effects on the S3 community are getting to me as well.

Not to burst a bubble, but your mmr decays over time if you don’t play any matches. That is probably why you went on a win streak as big as you did (it matched you up against easier opponents)

The reason that he is saying that is because a rev has almost as many blocks / evades as scrapper does, and still does a ton of damage. The only thing a scrapper has on it is condi clear (which doesn’t matter if the engi is using the meta build). Play either class for a little bit and the difference should be a bit more clear

I agree that something is needed, but a nerf to health / having one dodge / no down state would be the wrong answer, because that would also harm core engi…
What would need to happen is to bring some of the defensive hammer skills down a bit. A reflect on a 6s cd, an evade on a 12, and a block on a 20. Note that all of these also do damage, so the damage can get a bit ridiculous.

First off, no engi down state / single dodge won’t happen (it seems like a silly suggestion)
Second, I have been playing my engi recently and I have not lost a 1v1. I have an instant cast heal that refills when I hit 25% hp, an instant cast 50% damage reduction, instant cast remove 2 condis from everyone near me, and constant reflects / evade / block through hammer skills. If things get bad I have that auto elixir s proc at 25% hp and a sneak gyro if I need to get away. Needless to say, I haven’t lost a 1v1 because the class is that easy.
Going off of “the class carries” thing, whenever I duel a warrior I win 80% of the time. It might just be the warriors I was fighting, but when asked how to counter an engi on war, I can only guess, it seems like a flat counter.

Things I saw in the video:
1) You put WAY too much emphasis on stealthing. Like at start, you tried to blast stealth for the team. That isn’t really useful at all (since spawncamping at the start of the game isn’t possible) and it can really mess up another combo field, one that could blast swiftness for example. If you absolutely have to stealth up, use pistol 5 near a wall, then use heartseeker on the wall, so you don’t have to do a 180 and waste time getting back into position (this equals more stealth and less time wasted)
2) When you were heading back to cap your home node, you stealthed up right before you went around the corner. Instead, use the whole map, not just the obvious parts (You should have gone around the back way to scout things out instead of going through the front)
3) Do not team fight, unless you can quickly pick someone off with impact strike. You will die WAY too easily from the residual AoE.
4) If someone is about to take your point and you don’t want to fight, exit their line of sight, stealth up, and when they leave stroll back on to point. On temple for example, I love hiding beneath the bridges right before you get to the side points and instantly backcapping
5) Don’t waste a large amount of time trying to land a backstab. Unfortunately, the setup isn’t worth it unless you get a crit.
Some general things that may / may not have been in the video, just a few pointers
-Don’t use Roll for Init. Sure its a stun break that gives you initiative, but it is on a 60s cd (not worth it). Bandit’s defense is a 15 (or 12 if traited) stun break and a block for a second and a half, which is a whole lot better. Since you really over-emphasize stealth, you could use blinding powder as an alternative. That way you can pistol 5 then blast that for a few extra seconds of stealth, and also blast stealth on downed allies so you can res.
-Don’t steal at the beginning of the fight, it has way too much utility. It restores endurance, heals, interrupts, and poisons your enemy (to reduce the heal if they try to use it).
-When they get low on hp, watch their animations. They will eventually try to heal, and that needs to be interrupted.
-Do not use shortbow for damage. It should be only used for mobility, AoE poison, and (in the event you own the two other points) ledging on a team fight. Note that you can blast weakness from that, using shortbow 4 then 2 (don’t activate the chain ability for 2, otherwise the blast finish goes away)
-If they have a cap and they leave it unguarded, decapping / capping it should be your top focus.

The reason for Trickster is because of the absence of mug / slight extra condi removal. I don’t take bountiful theft because of the boon removal on s/d 3 and vigor through acro.
The reason I take withdraw is because of the immob clear, and I take bound over dash for the dps. I will give impacting disruption a shot, thanks for the pointers guys

It is pretty janky but it works really well imo. It has a bit more of a learning curve (since it is s/d), but it is pretty darn fun.
Blinding powder can be replaced with a utility of your choice, depending on your playstyle.
Note that it does not run DA (which is one of the “necessary” trait lines). Before you say “Nope not going to work”, give it a shot

The build is very cheesy. I don’t think anyone with a conscience can deny that. However, there IS a break in the evades. It is hard to exploit because your cc needs to be perfect on timing. For example, a thief can easily shut down a d/d build. All you have to do is stun (basilisk) then use instant-cast cc (steal). They very easily melt after that. I really hate to say it, but it is a learn to play issue.

I have to agree with Ubik. At around 7:15, there were 3 or 4 of you guys just sitting mid, and you had the far point capped, but unguarded. In addition they were off respawn. A rotation there would have secured you the game. Also are you using water attunement for damage….?

Honestly, I don’t mind the longer que time if the matches are good / close ones (which they have been for me, anyways). If we were to reduce the que times, I can only guess that the match quality would be alot worse.

the match making is 50/50, I’ve played 12 games won 6. and that’s a win one lose on merry go round. I’ve had 2 wins in a row. there is no progression. the pip system needs to be scrapped. A points system would be better, have a preseason to see where people end up then have divisions based on points. at the end of every season, the top how ever many of each division move up, and the bottom how ever many move down. sure they’ll need to rework the achievements for it, but that way if your good you’ll move up. if your not, you can have “fun” in your division.

Honestly, I think gs 2 is a perfect example of how the game should be. It is highly telegraphed and should deal heavy damage.
The fact that it can have an instant recharge means it is spammable, which if you added an evade to it then that would be bad game design

It is like not taking alchemy for scrapper, or beastmastery for druid. That isn’t really build diversity when you are locked in to most of your choices already.

Let me rephrase that. You are not “locked in” to a trait line. However, the implication is that you will underperform compared to those that do. I don’t “have” to use deadly arts or alchemy, but if I go against someone that does, the difference should be notable (skill levels aside). So yes you are correct when you say they aren’t mandatory. Let me ask this, do you play to win or do you play to have fun? If the answer is win then the line is “highly recommended”. If you play to have fun, I can understand the position.
