And they are the best roamer profession, making them ideal scouts.
I really don’t get why people rarely realise this. Having a permastealth build with lots of toughness and vitality is the best possible build in WvW, because it means you can spy on any and everyone, and will probably not get downed by the first necro mark or meteor storm. Having one thief shadow every enemy group that’s decently sized would be such a gigantic advantage in WvW, yet I rarely see people do it. I expect thieves to camp dolyaks, kill stragglers, and, most improtantly, provide intel on enemy movements.
When you have near-instant intel on what your enemy is doing, you can fight every fight at a chokepoint, gank and sandwich zergs even when fighting outnumbered 2:1 and so on.
Of course, just scouting like this will not get you badges. Which is something that needs to be fixed. Currently playing support in WvW means you lose out on most of the reward, whether it’s playing a combo field staff ele, refreshing siege or just scouting about. If this gets fixed, I expect a lot more thieves doing the useful jobs, rather than ganking solo people who are just running towards a mithril node.
Err, killing stragglers is a valid and excellent tactic. Especially during big fights, when people are respawning to rejoin, and you get to kill them like lemmings as they trickle one by one.
Play FotM lvl 48 and you will beg for those rings. Also for them being infused.
Ah, but nobody’s forcing you to play FotM at level 48.
So you don’t need infusions for FotM, you want them to be more effective. Just like you don’t need them in wvw, but you want them to be more effective.
Funny, I played some FOTM and never needed those things.
Ed: Also, if you needed something from the dungeon to complete the dungeon, nobody would have finished it, ever.
This would have to be client-side (because tracing rays is expensive CPU work) and thus would be easily hackable.
No.
As for the OP, names need to stay. In a lot of cases I can only see the name, and not the model, when things get zergy.
yeah lol i stopped playing my R120main because
1) legend boss rank bronze invader is wtd
2) not worth now since will delay rewards even more
You don’t delay anything whatsoever. Ranks are 5000wxp per rank, getting more ranks now just means you’ll be getting 2 chests longer.
I just have to point out that reading “ticking” as “tickling” makes this thread more fun. That should be the official term, “tick” is boring.
Those games are competitive and either a) were/are e-sports or b) have decent amounts of rl money involved.
Quake had neither. It only became an “e-sport” with rl money involved AFTER it proved itself, after years of people playing it competitively, and the third game has been released. And if you have a quick look at quake live, you’ll see that same third game still being played by some ridiculously good players.
First must come the game, then it has to prove itself to become an e-sport. WAR failed, allegedly. I don’t know why, I haven’t played it. GW2 has all the chances, and it’s up to us, the players, to make it happen. ANet can only supply us the game, it’s up to us to play it. And easy mode hoppers that leave when 1% of the player base catches up to their level+gear+skill surely aren’t the ones that will help make it into a well known game, are they.
How about this. The last blueprint you used that got built doesn’t have a despawn timer. Keep despawn timers on build sites and extra siege, but keep that last one you built stand until it gets destroyed.
Srsly though, guys. Even if all changes aren’t well received, it’s really great to see WvW getting some love lately. Keep up the great work.
It was pretty much ignored for 10 months… in which a very high % of hardcore pvpers left the game… hopefully this is not a case of too little too late.
The game has only been out for 8 months. They’ve actively been making changes to it for two months now, which means they’ve been working on those changes for a lot longer than that.
A high percentage of hardcore pvpers change games every few months anyway. Look at prx as an example. Pretty sure they never play a game for more than 6-8 months.
Sounds like hardcore easymode hoppers to me. Hardcore pvpers stay for years. Look at games like quake, CS (shudder), eve, and so on. People have played these for 10+ years, and the competition is still as strong as ever, if not stronger.
At the begining of a game’s lifetime, everyone is still learning. At that point in time, it’s very easy to kill the majority of the player base. I know, I’ve been there many times. You join a server, and just go 30:1 kill/death ratio. It even happened in GW2 spvp when it launched.
Later on, when the people that learn slower but still hit the skill level necessary for competitive play (either because they’re simply slower learners, or they simply play less, or whatever other reason), and getting a kill in pvp actually means you have to do more than spam heartseeker, these so-called “hardcore pvpers” flee for the next game.
El oh el hardcore pvpers.
Some sort of autoloot would be nice.
I’m not seeing how timer prevents people building 123412341 siege. It just makes them despawn 30 minutes later.. as if they’d last that long against players.
Without a guaranteed badge drop, what is the motivation for me to engage and kill anyone? Many times I’ll go for several kills without getting a single badge. Far more time efficient to just farm the jumping puzzles everyday isn’t it?
the motivation is……so the other world that is trying to take your keep/tower/camp fail….
But how do I personally benefit? Say because I kill someone my team gets a tower…. So what? It’s not enough motivation when you don’t really benefit in any way no?
It’s called glory or something, you get it in spvp.
Siege despawning.
Also, upgrades shouldn’t cost gold, just supplies.
TBH, I see no reason for siege despawn timers. If it’s outside or on walls, it’ll get destroyed every 10 minutes anyway, if it isn’t I see no reason why it should despawn anyway.
Not if the counter-weight is really heavy compared to the projectile.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutronium sounds plausible. :V
No comments. GW2 developers have to and deal with permanent invisibility and fix the nerf-broken elementist and engineer classes .
If you’re having problems with doing wvw as an ele you’re doing it wrong. I got online on 1st May, went to EB, throw a meteor storm on a random zerg trying to take our keep, 50 WvW kills monthly done. It’s like playing a walking treb.
Lets keep this thread alive like defending last tower in home border. Maybe many new ppl will roll to thief and ANet will have to put some action. This silence from them means a lot. But they probably don’t know what happened to eve online when they tried to fool all community.
No worries, I already rolled a norn thief. As did most of my guild. When we go roaming wvw night shift, we’ll roll all thief. :V
I’m not sure thief OP or not but I saw ~600 posts here and usually people don’t complaining for nothing. Maybe had something wrong with the thieves.
Nothing wrong with thieves, everything wrong with people playing against them. Which is why I made one.

To think all Saddam needed to win vs USAF some AoE spells…
All that’s needed to nerf the zerg is remove the 5 target aoe limitation in WvW.
And you would be suiciding with retaliation. It’s good to remove the AoE limit, but retaliation would 1shot you.
Is that a problem though? You do more damage, they do more damage.
- Stealth finisher, what’s the point of having downed skills if you can’t use them?
- Heartseeker, the damage on this is so overpowered, as of it can be used up to 5 times when at full initiative. How to kill someone as a Heartseeker spammer: 3k, 3k, 3k, 5k, 8k, -dead- if they are bunker, they will be less than 30% health.
- Cloak and Dagger, let’s see; up to 7k damage, stacks vulnerability, AND stealths you! wtf?
Any glass cannon profession hit for those big numbers.
This is correct. My meteors hit for 3k+ in berserker gear, ~5k if I go reset my traits to a glass build. That’s like having a cata/treb walking around.
What I can’t do, however, is use stealth to avoid almost any encounter. If I get caught in a glass setup, I die. That’s all the difference there is. It’s not huge but it’s there. Nerfbats have been wielded for less (think nano ships in eve).
That said, I don’t think this should get nerfed. For solo/small groups stealth and/or speed are the only things keeping them alive. And stealth and speed are lots and lots of fun. Seeing how the thief wasn’t all that awesome in actual sieges (and traps from stealth will probably get nerfed, so it’ll soon be that way again), I see no reason to nerf them. Being able to run away isn’t worth all that much.
All that’s needed to nerf the zerg is remove the 5 target aoe limitation in WvW.
They should make the yak immune similar to the determined buff until the guards are killed.
This.
I never failed to see it’s use. It’s use is cheap blueprints and badges. I did it once a day for just that reason. If I’m not eating up a spot in WvW while doing it, so much the better…
Agree with this 100%.
Now, how about a direct entrance to the JP map instead of having to queue to EB?
Indeed, this would be best.
Activating a stealth trap has very little counter to it, almost 100% of the viable glass cannon thief builds relay on stealth.
Fixed that for you.
Only a WvW player targets people with legendary weapons first because they’re an easy kill and spent too much time in pve.
I fully intend to farm the entire thing in WvW. I’m already about 1% done!
Only a WvW player keeps his trait window open 24/7 so he can swap to -50% fall damage at any time.
The people that clog the queue are the people that say in wvw for hours, not the ones that stay in there for seconds… Just sayin :P
Well you lot who failed to see it’s use got your wish. The entire JP is a massive joke now and not worth doing. Account bound chest and no more orichalcum.
I never failed to see it’s use. It’s use is cheap blueprints and badges. I did it once a day for just that reason. If I’m not eating up a spot in WvW while doing it, so much the better…
This change is the best ever from wvw point of view.
Well, whatever the gear they’re using, they can down me before I can heal up if they catch me in berserker gear, and if I’m in my shaman/cleric set, they simply don’t stand a fighting chance. Sounds like glass builds to me. Or maybe I’m just fighting bad thieves. :V
I’ll be honest: thief only has stealth in combat. It is not to help them kill you. It’s so they can run away. If anything, thieves are only good at running away.
Necros can kill thieves easily with AoE conditions. Guardians can kill them with retaliation and high defense. Rangers shouldn’t exist in WvW but if you must, I challange any thief to kill my sPvP ranger. Warriors are supposed to be the least effective against thieves yet I never lost a fight against one on mine. Engis can murder thieves even when upscaled due to tons of blocks and retaliation. My guildie solod 2 lvl80 thieves on his lvl60 engi. Eles should be able to kill thieves too. Maybe not staff eles, but then again why run solo as a staff ele? Mesmers are practically like thieves only higher health pool and illusions. I played all 8 classes doing PvP only and all I can say is the problem with thieves is that they are easy to play for beginners and hard to counter as a beginner.Thieves need a buff. More survivability, less stealth, wtf is that boon stealing meta?
You talk as if thieves had no survivability. They have plenty, they just choose to use berserker gear, because thanks to stealth, they can…
On 1 vs 1
The million dollar question in here is, why 1vs1 at all, ever? This isn’t Duel vs Mortal Kombat, this is World vs World. If your class is paper, bring a rock with you to gank scissors all day every day.
If you guys are so afraid of thieves then don’t engage them.
How can I choose not to engage something that I can’t even see and is the fastest class in the game?
Make one and learn how to beat them. Hint: Is not that hard. And stop saying they stealth permanently, they don’t, believing otherwise shows how little you know about the class..
Oh I beat thieves most of the time if they don’t catch me alone in full zerker gear. It was just such a nice flamebait I had to take it.
If you guys are so afraid of thieves then don’t engage them.
How can I choose not to engage something that I can’t even see and is the fastest class in the game?
Yes. This needs to get fixed. Same with meteor storm. Getting interrupted mid-cast should not cause the full cooldown.
I try to never use my heal signet active
This. I consider using my heal signet a failure in my play performance. If it’s at all possible, I won’t use it even at low health. Only after everything else is on cooldown (already attuned to water, dodged in water, used both heal skills in water) and I’m still (or again) low, I’ll use my signet. It really should be the very last way out.
Thieves are the biggest joke in the game right now, People really need to L2P if they can’t beat a thief 1v1 100% of the time.
Seems like 99% of Aurora Glade, Riverside, Far Shiverpeaks and Millers need to L2P because of my thief. Yet same time it seems that I need to L2P as well. Interesting!
Are you the dude I played with the other night on Gandara? :V
I’ve been playing the D/D Elementalist since beta, and still do, because it’s simply the most fun thing to play.
Same here, I’ve been playing Ele since beta, and I basically swap between D/D and Staff. 0/10/0/30/30 build, duh. Being down all the time is not fun, so why bother with anything else.
Excuse me, I haven’t been around in a while now… What does GC mean?
Why do they need to be exclusive to the super hard core who play 10+ hours a day 7 days a week?
Because they are legendary.
You are aware they do drop from monsters as well which is another form of RNG but you dont have to risk constantly in the mystic forge. Good things come to those who wait. Learn some patience dude and dont feel like you should be entitled to a legendary weapon.
But he doesn’t like RNG.
This is the WvW discussion all over again. Someone doesn’t like a part of the legendary grind and they demand it be removed.

^ This person is doing it right. All out glass cannon build, melt face.
Anything else is bad for wvw, since no matter what, if you get focused you die. 10k or 100k hp doesn’t matter, when 30 people focus someone (and they will if they’re good), they’ll take them down with their autoattacks, before the dude can even react.
Rodgort’s Invocation. Yeah, Dragon’s Tooth is basically the same thing, but it has that silly delay…
Balancing shouldn’t be done based on tournament players, it should be based on the average player because right now balance changes affect all aspects of the game not just tPvP.
The whole point of tPvP is that it’s balanced. If ANet makes the ele what people in this thread want it to be, you’ll not see anything at all in tPvP except eles. Unless the player is really bad. Like, really really bad.
The core of my frustration with the Ele is that in order to do anything similar to any of my other characters I have to work 10x for it. There’s a huge, GIGNORMOUS disparity between the requirements to do well with an Elementalist and any other class.
I need to hit three (3), or sometimes four skills to instantly (i.e. within 3 seconds) drop a 5 size mob in PvE at level 80, with pretty much any weapon set. Does your guardian do this with just auto-attack or something, that hitting 3-4 skills is considered GIGNORMOUS disparity in “work”?
Account is correct. Changing FoV is zooming. Scrolling the mousewheel is moving the camera back/forth. They’re two different things.
It’s optional. Entirely optional. Exotics have the same stats, the only difference is the skin. ANet thinks you need to like WvW to get it. If you want the skin, go do WvW. If you loathe WvW so much that you don’t want to do it, then don’t and quit until the next expansion. Or forever. Or go do GW1 cartographer title, you’ll be finished by about 2023 and have 20 expansions lined up.
The difference here is that PvP is a peripheral activity in a PvE game, while karma and gold are fundamental systems that the whole game rests upon. You’re trying to compare the seat covers in a Ferrari to the fuel it uses in it’s engine.
If this is true, then why are all the skills balanced around PVP and not PVE? Oh right, because this isn’t a PVE game, it has both PVE and PVP. 100% Map completion therefore also includes both. It’s really that simple.
They’re probably going to do a 180 on that with the outrage the actual post caused. So I’m going to wait a while longer before I commit myself to getting banned. :P
Maybe you shouldn’t be playing a game that was designed from the ground up, based on a system of karma and gold. A PvE system that dominates — no, completely encompasses, the vast majority of the game. The PvP that is so important to you is just peripheral content. Perhaps you should be playing something where PvP is the pie filling and not crust.
Nope. I was just using your argument against you. You feel entitled to having legendaries without doing WvW. By that same logic, why shouldn’t I be able to get them without karma, gold or both?
FYI, I have spent almost the entirety of my time in this game in PVE, and haven’t really touched PVP since august (apart from some WvW for the monthlies). But hey, you want legendaries without WvW. I’m cool with that, but I’ll opt out of karma instead. Sounds only fair to me.
I have no dificulty doing PvP.
Again as mention in my first post. I am rather good at it.
I just no longer wish to do it. It not fun.
Well, I have it on good authority that if you don’t wish to do it you won’t get the legendary. But that’s completely up to you.
I, for example, do not wish to farm karma and gold for my legendary. I “demand” my “right” to get my legendary without those.
