Think about it from a new player’s perspective. They won’t be as skilled as experienced players. They’ll die more easily regardless of what they’re doing. It’s fine and dandy to say: “In PvE, you choose when you die.” Well yeah, for us, it’s not going to happen that often. But for a new player, it’s going to be quite a common thing.

You can die repeatedly in any game-mode. It’s just something that’s going to happen regardless of what you’re actually doing. But maybe you’d stick around if you were having fun outside of getting killed, rather than feeling so bored due to a grind that you would rather quit anyway and the dying just makes it easier to switch off?

So, I don’t know if everyone is actually aware of this, because it seems like a lot of people aren’t but levelling in EoTM isn’t worth doing due to the reward track and participation system. So… why did this have to change?

No, seriously… why? Didn’t it work fine before? What was wrong with introducing new players into WvW whilst levelling? Surely that should be the purpose of EoTM now. It was either used as a farming area for 80’s or a levelling method for those interested in PvP in the vein of WvW. By changing the way you level, it just removes the enjoyment of going in to learn more about the end-game, which should be the job of content on the way to the end. Some see EoTM as the sort of Unranked version of WvW, which I know that’s the intention of… why try to stop people from enjoying the levelling process in a way that many did before?

Personally, I used EoTM -a lot- to level my characters, and it was much better than the other methods, not because it may have given a lot of XP, but because it actually increased the MMO aspect of the game. With all of the other forms of levelling, you don’t really -have- to group up unless you’re doing world bosses or events, but most of the time you’ll either do hearts, map completion or crafting, or PvP if you can bear climbing through reward tracks for tomes. For a new player who wants to get into WvW, why cut off the enjoyment for something that could improve WvW populations at end-game? Why do we need 2 different types of WvW for end-game. Just keep the Borderlands as the end-game, and EoTM as the levelling option.

Yes, this would mean removing reward tracks in EoTM, but it feels better to see an XP bar going up than filling up a participation bar and waiting for a timer to ding to earn one reward. Maybe make participation gain harder for a bit more bonus XP along the way with items like chests of loot and currency included so players who are capturing points could gain physical XP instead.

I just can’t be bothered going to EoTM while levelling, and now I’m stuck in the grind, and many others are feeling this way. And if new players feel this way, they aren’t going to stick around for very long if they were excited for the end-game, but discover the grind of levelling that new players have experienced in the past. If you want to fix WvW, don’t remove the interest before it’s even begun. Fix EoTM, then you’ll see an increase in WvW population.
