It’s worth noting, while they said we’re not working on new versions of the home maps currently, they didn’t say anything about new maps in general…..
Also I’ll throw out that the work our WvW guys are doing on culling and progression systems are extremely large, these are feature systems unto themselves. For example a lot of the culling work requires re-building almost entirely the way our game compiles, loads, and handles assets in general. For many companies, this task could literally years, we’re trying to pull it off in a matter of months, these guys are rock stars.
I know some of you got the impression there isn’t much development going on here, but I was to clarify you couldn’t be more wrong. There is a boat load of very serious WvW being done, much of it they discussed in this interview. Major features require many month long projects, our hope is you’ll start seeing the major fruits of those labors starting in our February update.
You’ll hear more details from our WvW team once stuff gets closer to finalized and tested, but we think you’re going to be thrilled with the stuff that’s coming. As an old DAoC fan, I’m freaking stoked about what these guys are doing.
I’m sorry, but I can’t quite accept how you try to reduce all the problems that where adressed to the huge problem you have with the culling system. I understand that reprogramming a whole engine is a huge problem, but you developed a system where you had hundreds of players fight each other and a. didn’t saw the problem in the beta or in other tests you made? or b. didn’t think that invisible enemys would be a problem? But not only did you ignore this huge problem, you don’t want to solve the other problems the gamemode wvw has despite that those other problems have absolutly nothing to do with the culling problem? You have a completed game which took years to develop, so changing the majority of mentioned problems shouldn’t be that big of a deal for your team. It takes time, I know and accept that but clearly you don’t take the whole situation to serious given the fact that you still make silly holiday events instead of fixing the game. And please don’t try to wish this away with meaningless comments we where given in the past like “this is another team working on this and that”. I myself work in a company where developing software and taking care of IT-Stuff plays a major role and there is no way a programmer can’t fulfill other roles and program modules for wvw if you give him a specific explicit task. You just don’t seem to care. And thats really sad because WvW is a gamemode that created GIANT Communitys, who even made shiftplans, ranks, orga-teams, websites, forums, and endless more things I can’t add them all here. In a world where everyone cares only about themselves this is HUGE. That you are not willing to focus on that great microcosmos you created is a real shame. I’m sure everyone involved in bringing updates to wvw are working their hardest to improve the game, it’s the attitude of the people who are managing the development we are disappointed in.

Here I was enjoying the harmony and company of my family at christmas, but wait what is that delicious taste? cookies? cake? but wait NO! The taste of superb golden tears, flowing from your cheeks like the streams to the oceans of this world. Even though I really do hate the phrase “It’s only a game”, you have taken this way to far once again in the forums. Every single one of you has to deal with reality at the end of the day, this is also applying to the game. I know it’s wrong to try and remind you that writing all this crap here doesn’t change reality but for kittens sake guys really? I mean really? “nternet here I troll” is a phrase for emotionally crippled kids, and the whole lot of ya sure ain’t that kind of people. So Just stop and play the game, please.
Very nice fights this evening again, this time on DB. Our only concern is that DB and AB are like Bears, sleeping over the winter just to come back after Christmas with massive forces
Have to agree, tonight has been amazing fun on AS borderland. The fights we’ve had in SH were epic – Elona zerg slaughtered only to find an Arborstone one behind it, about 20 times in a row xD
Really fun times lets keep it up

Nice fights tonight, fast paced battles with many wins and loses on all three sides. Arborstone could have evaded a lot of trouble though if they would have left the hills alone tonight.
Unfortunatly I never played GW1, but from what I heard from my fellow guild guys n’ girls you had large areas for pvp in gw1 right? I would love to have larger areas AND siege to be able to use more advanced strategys and tactics to outsmart the enemy (or get beaten and learn from it). That would be a huge postivie change, borderline epic even :P
WvW is the gamemode with the most dedicated gamers, the mode with the most people that socialize and come together to play (even if there aren’t so much goals besides rising in the server ranking), and it certainly creates the most epic battles and moments. So why don’t focus on that to build a more vivid and “full of life” kind of world. If we can get rid of some minor technical issues there is no reason why this idea won’t be a huge success.
After hundreds of hours of gaming, the pve areas are pretty empty and starting to feel artificial. It would be a huge waste to ignore this gigantic areas you build, just because there is nothing left to do there.
We want GW to feel ALIVE, even more BREATHTAKING and you can reach that goal by adding more stuff to do in the PVE areas like mini games, but foremost: Include the WHOLE world of GW2 into the battles where we leave our blood ,sweat, tears and joy!

Yes. Let’s create player limits at “night” that prevents the majority playing at that time to not out number the minority.
Instead of player limits — which will shut people out — it would be better to just have a dynamic scoring system. If there are fewer enemy players in WvW as a whole, then the total points available each tick should be lowered. This seems fair since you should get less credit for holding a keep against an empty map than you should for holding it against a full map of enemies. And it will have the consequence that primetimes count more towards the score total than overnight/daytime.
If some kind of dynamic scoring were implemented, then one nightcapping server could not make too much headway overnight while the opposing teams are sleeping. In all other ways, however — karma, money, badges — the experience overnight would be unaltered.
I think thats a pretty good Idea, I was thinking about closing one or more of the 4 maps when the overall player count is low, but this would bring some problems with it like the overall points compared to other brackets or manipulations if many players leave wvw before they lose a keep. Also the overall population on the 3 matchup servers would be a problem.
You got some heavy beatings last night from ER, don’t try to deny it
If you have the videomaterial from the fights around the blue tower and the hill it would be very nice if you could sent it to me CatQueen. Or is there another guild with tr in their name on your server? You fought with osc later on right?
- Real War is a full time job, WvW isn’t
- I would be 100 % bored to cap empty castles, and spawn camp the rest of the night at the enemys spawn
- Daytime won’t be close to a fair fight because the nightcap partys always build T3 Gates and Walls, so getting everything back is far more harder. And this happens every night.
- The coming update won’t help at all because: 1. The NPC event will be crushed by some siegeweapons or 2. The Towers at the spawn will be left for the 2 other partys on the map, that means 6 towers in total, 3 for each party. So only around 470 Points each tic instead of 500. Why would anyone care for that 30 points for each party.
