Hello Fluffydonkeys. Yes – it most certainly is true that this game has no traditional trinity model involving Tank, Healer and various DPSes. However the part regarding the Tank is simply untrue. Which class should it be? I will surprise You – no guarding and no warrior can easily beat what i have in store when it comes to plain survavibility.
1. The Class
The choice, while surpriseing, is simple. Pick up the Engineer. It is the jack of all trades so this means that You will be able to handle many different situations, but You will not master any of it. But we do not have to master them, we simply have to survive them, right?
2. The Character Build
I currently use this one:

So let’s talk about skills and how to use them, shall we?
2.1 The Healer
Tha game have been designed around dpsing only. Thus the mobs have to deal damage which is small enough to make a team of unexperienced players survive to kill them. The general rule of thumb here is that the less HP the mobs have the higher the dps they deliver. That being said You still have to remember that these kittens have to NOT kill warriors with around 25k hp within couple of seconds. Let’s do the math.
The basic and the earliest source of hp for You will be Healing Turret. In the build i have posted in the basic passive system it heals you for 292 hps (311 hps when overcharged) + another 3k worth of hp each 15 seconds with active usage (it also cleans 2 conditions) thus making total of: 508 hps when in range of healing turret. It is already more than any other class in the game, but wait – there is more.
You can also notice the Elixir Gun kit in Your first utility skill bracket. This babe has some decent abilities up to number 5 (the whole kit replaces Your usual weapon) which provides you with aditional total of 465 hps (and heals ONE condition) the kitten thing stays in place for 10 seconds and has 20 seconds cooldown so we can round the average hps it provides to 232.
Thats 232 + 508 = 740 hit points per second. Of course there is more.
In Your traits You will notice two different Trait Lines which were finished. One of them contains Backpack Regenerator trait – providing You with aditional 189 hps IF you have weapon kit equipped (which you will have equipped at all times) the other notable mention is Elixir Infused Bombs which is a cherry on top of our murder cake. Each bomb kit explosion You cause will hill everyone in range for 363 hp. Bombs have 0.5s cast time and no cooldown (the basic ones) thus effectively doubling the hps the bombs provide making it 726 hps.
To sum it up You will have 726 hps (from bombs) + 189 hps (from BP regenerator) + 740 hps (from other aforementioned sources) = 1655 hit points per second. So You will be a decent healer giving away 1466 hps to allies. (since only one of those sources affects ONLY You.) Oh, did I mention that You can also eat up food for some passive HPS regen? You can – I do not remember exact numbers but it is around 80 so let’s just say You will heal Yourself for around 1730 hit points per second.
You will also have two other skills derived from both Your Healing skill (#6) and whichever utility slot the Elixir Gun occupies – both of them provide You with some regen (which is nice to elongate the effects of Healing Turret) but the real deal is that the first one creates water field (great for planting Big Ol’ Bomb inside to make a healing combo with) and the other is Your stunbreak.
That is a shame. I do understand the point in making short fights the key to survival – Overall that was base for my hps theory (that mobs only hit you so hard that You can survive and kill them – the quicker the better and the higher dps monsters retain). Could You truly recommend warrior as the class that is viable to solo ALL of the games content when it comes to combat situations. (i actually soloed whole AC, CoE and CoF, attempting the rest on my tankgeneers in nearby future).
Hello dear Warriors!
I came to You because after leveling 3 character (1 thief and two engineers) I came to conclusion that making thirdgineer would be a waste of time. Therefore i have searched far and wide for a class that would have a survavibility of my engineers – and a warrior was elected as one of the toughest, if not THE toughest, class to kill in pve.
My question is this: Is there any viable build that will allow me surpass my ability to heal more than 1500 hp per second (on my engineers), or is the warrior the shadow of it’s former self and I should not play with this class? I most certainly do not find zerg elitism funny, nor entertaining, nor i could care less about my dps. The only thing i ask of You: How much can warrior survive? And how well too?
Update: It is not a matter of windows version for i have run my game in Xp sp3 mode and vista mode, but to no avail. Will try to turn off firewalls…
Doesn’t work for 7:11:3:whatever bug disconnects. I understand that You meant the memory at 000000x, but checked nonetheless. Thanks for initative though!
Hello, I’d like to put in a bit of my insight and information i gathered when it comes to what causes this sort of errors.
Fist of all: It is not caused by router options. All of the required ports are open when it comes to mine, i check that daily. However even using the -clientport 80 did not solve the problem with conectivity for me. How do i know? I brought second PC to my table, set it up for GW 2, and during time of two weeks made a marathon of playing over 12 hours daily. During that time, after initial hickup (had a minor dc, but it was lost wifi, so after that i connected it with cable), no crash occured. This way we can also exclude the wrong, or problematic ISP. Two computers, one ISP, one comp dcs, second doesn’t.
It seems that also setting certain rules, when it comes the firewall, does not help. I am certain that all of my ports are open – using the PFPortchecker. The ports: 80, 443, 6112 and 6600 are all wide open and accesible for both TCP and UDP packets.
My computer has been conected to my router both with usual Ethernet cable, and USB. Crashes occur despite of which cable or device am i using to establish connection. It is also not caused by Network Interface Controller, because i used the built-in one (the crashes occured) and bought an external part connected with PCI connector, and right now i am using simple USB cable.
Right now I am going to make a couple of tests when it comes to having my antivrus software turned on or off. I have installed the AVIRA antivirus, which is different when it comes to the other PC as far as i remember. Perhaps it has something to do with Windows firewall. I am thankfull for any and all ideas folks, so plese throw them all at me. We will figure it out eventually. Together.
The crashes occure “rarely” between 1 and two hours. Only in guild wars.
Sorry for late answer but as of level 80 I am running this build:
It is made to allow You maintain high mobility with quite few healing abilities. The general idea is to always kite using bomb kit (swapping kits every time you lose the swiftness from speedy kits). You have decent heals from Bandage Self, Healing Mist and Super Elixir + you regenerate health while you have a kit on Yourself (so constantly). You can help Yourself with healing by using the med kit (curing all conditions every 15 seconds and maintaing fury for 12 seconds every 20 seconds). You generaly have higher endurance regeneration then Thief on meth. The whole build revolves around evading everything and kiting the monsters. It allowed me to solo all of the queens champions from queen jubilee live world event and it is yet to be tested in the dungeons)
The gear of course is the dream – currently going with something sturdier – but it should allow you to pretty much get out of many sticky situations and kite (and kill) even 8 to 12 mobs at the same time (excluding champions because of their nasty habit of using skills).
The third utility skill can be swapped as You please.
Okay – thank You kindly for all the feedback and help – any of You kind men and women of GW 2 can tell me too if blind works against aoe attacks? (ergo monster casting an aoe skill is blinded).
Again – thanks for all the help!
Tank and healer – for it usually did the trick, but as far as i understood the usual tactics do not apply in this game. I thought of perhaps shout warrior as a tank (for as far as i understood he has the greatest survavibility in this game alone) combined with class that would heal him as a “health-battery” like guardian or water specced staff elementalist.
Hello, nice to meet You all.
I had a big break from GW 2 – have played engineer before – so i know some basics BUT right now i would like to come back to play this nice game WITH a new player. Let’s be hones here – I (and my partner) are traditionalists (“old geezers”) when it comes to roles in MMORPGs. As much as i remember that in GW 2 there are no roles like dps/healer/tank I would like to ask You if there is possibility to “beat” every single instance of PVE of this game by the two of us, and if so than in what setup?
For example i have been thinking of a pair made of guardian and warrior (guardian with mace and focus) who would be specced to heal (virtue of resolve traits, mace flailing and mark healing way) with shout-healing warrior. But since the blind was fixed i thought of two thieves with constant Black Powder and Smoke Screen (both of them specced to have low cooldown on deception, both something/pistol).
What would be Your ideas for a pair of new/old players trying to find their niche in the world of Guild Wars 2?
