Agree with how good the fractals are. Some of the bosses need you to use the enviroment to beat them, there’s some fun (but easy when you take a step back to look) puzzles, and the enemies, so far, do not have 20 billion hp. The visuals are also very nice, some great design work.
I got dc’d on the third fractal though, and there was literally no way to get back to my party. They couldn’t 4 man it, and so that was that. Bit dissapointed by that.
I’ll say this. I had planned to take the entire weekend to play GW2, do the one off events, and explore the new zone. After tonight, I’m not planning on logging in again until Monday. Completely dissapointed with the frankly unplayable mess tonight. I can’t even begin to imagine how much worse the Sunday event is going to be…hours of that? No thanks.
Love the game in general, but this event was soul crushing.
Same. Just got DC’d, came back on outside the instance, no way to get back in. Pretty bad oversight, as I can’t believe they were intentionally designed this way.
@Xpiher, because quote broke.
That, as it happens, is just about how long I’m willing to wait. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve played so far, and am quite content to see what is coming next. If it’s broken, I’ll move on. But I’m not inclined to wild speculation beforehand.

Which is one stance, sure.
However, I would argue that if what they are working is a design departure from years of public statements, press releases, interviews, and precedent, then they absolutely should be open and transparent of that process.
The important word there is ‘if’. IF this is the start of a real gear treadmill, I’ll also be pretty kittened. I’m willing to wait and see what they’re actually doing before I start demanding ritual sacrfice, though.
I understand that some posts may seem like it, but we are simply going off of clear statements by devs that directly indicate a key design direction of the game is radically changing.
We aren’t raging, we are simply:
A. Voicing the direction we feel is best for the game and why.
B. Asking for a clear, non-pr speak, explanation of what is coming, and why.
So far, there have been no official statements that present evidence to indicate that this isn’t a departure from the previously touted horizontal end game. Raising the stat ceiling above exotic absolutely brings in additional (and to many of us, unwanted) vertical progression.
So to re-cap, we aren’t frothing, we are rational dissecting public statements by Anet devs and voicing our thoughts on those statements.
Some of you are being very reasonable in your opinions, I agree. For the calm people who don’t think my post should be directed at them, it probably wasn’t.
Yes because they are adding gear treadmills. Even if its craftable, if anet intends to add more gear later or use the current gear as a key to content then its treadmill.
Are they? Again, we’ve had such limited info that assuming -anything- is a fool’s game. The question of whether or they should have just given straight answers is a different discusison completely, but I don’t think ANet should be forced to reveal everything they’re working on whenever the forum gets up-in-arms about something. They’d have to have an equivelant to the bat phone to even begin to answer the flood of questions and demands.
Are you people serious? You’ve been playing this game for God knows how many hours, and you’re all spitting your pacifiers out based on a few paragraphs of PR speak?
I have a couple of suggestions. First, stop with the talk of quitting, because I fully expect to see everyone here complaining the same way the next time some new content is added. The few of you who really will leave over this, well, good job for sticking to your word, but really…try seeing how the new stuff pans out before you go and slit your wrists?
As I said, you’ve all seen, what, a few lines of text and a screenshot of a ring? What if ANet make the new stuff craftable in a month or two? What if ALL of the Ascended stuff, as it’s obviously intended for grinding the new dungeon, has Magic Find as one of it’s stats, and the slight increase on the others are intended to balance it a little?
You’ve seriously taken all the content in the game so far (which I’ve really enjoyed, personally), balanced it against one press release, and decided to form a lynch mob? Yeesh!
I don’t think you should change your guide at all. It’s fine as it is. I didn’t intend to critisize or argue.
I may have read too much into you saying there was only a ‘slim chance’ people would find a use for it.
No, no. I don’t dispute your numbers. I was working with memory only, and can freely admit I was probably incorrect.
I do still hold though (and this is only my opinion, I’m not interested in saying people are wrong) that it can be very useful depending on the build/situation. All I suggest is that people give it a go and decide for themselves.
A great thread. I read both this and the other crithammer thread with great interest. The first thread taught me a great deal about theorycrafting on this game in general, and not just for the guardian/ah way of life.
That said, I do have an opinion on Writ of the Merciful that differs from yours. I find it -incredibly- useful, and often take it instead of Battle Presence. With just my hammer having healing power, my symbol heals for (iirc, please someone correct me if I’m wrong) around 250 a tick. It really adds to your own survivability in any situation, and works great on your melee allies as well.
It’s all relative on the rest of people’s builds of course.
I first tried AC Exp, path 2, at level 40. I was one of these guys that people are ripping on in earlier posts….all of my gear was found, some of it under my current level by quite a lot. I didn’t know enough to keep an eye on red circles, or watch the LT for his instant kill spin. I got kicked around in that dungeon like a football. Seriously. I was kittened in my kitten until I bled from my kitten. I typed kitten all 3 times there.
And to be frank, you could hardly blame me. Until that point it didn’t matter what gear I had, stuff still died quickly. Red circles were always more of an annoyance than a threat. One hit deaths? Only from the ground when I mistimed a jump.
AC was a very harsh wake up call. But wake up I did. I went and bought up to date gear, and after one more go at path 2, I had dodging and avoiding being mobbed pretty much down. Leveled up to 50 on AC, all paths, and very rarely died. Partied with a few level 80s, on their first time, and some (not all) dropped like flies.
So, do some low levels have bad gear and no skills? Well, sure, I was one of them like I said. But all that it took to fix it? Less than 60 silver and less than an hour of playtime.
Experience and skill > level.
I like it. With the blinds and vigor, seems a good build for avoiding damage. With that in mind, I have a few suggestions.
Have you considered moving those last 10 points in valor somewhere else? As Schakal said, Altruistic Healing isn’y going to be activated much in your current build, and with the blind/dodge playstyle your build supports, Might of the Protector isn’t unmissable. 5 in Virtues would be nice for the might everytime you bust out Virtue of Justice, perhaps?
Edit: This is about your first build, not the second. I’ll lok at that now.
Edit 2: Also, you could swap out 2 handed mastery for empowering might to get use out of AH.
Edit 3: Second build – Battle Presence is great, if you really, really stock up on +healing gear. If that’s what you’re going for, great.

Agree mainly, but it’s somewhat situational. AC, for instance, I very rarely get downed. I can stand taking hits from the bosses all day. What with the graveling nests and the spiders, I think you could build up your stack pretty quickly,
As you’re leveled down, the straight up 250 bonus would count for quite a lot, too.
THAT’S what I was missing. Thanks, all of these answers have been incredibly useful.
Even with just the one set of stacks, it seems that the (eventual) 250 to your stat of choice is a huge gain compared to other possible sigil choices. Especially if you can then change the weapon and keep the stacks.
I think I’m definitely going to work it in to my setup. Thanks again all.
Really? So you could have a sigil of bloodlust on a sword, a sigil of perception a torch, kill 25 mobs, switch to a hammer with a sigil of life, kill 25 mobs…and then be walking around with a near permanant +250 to healing, power and precision?
That seems like it would be awesome for pretty much any and all pve content. Too awesome, infact. Am I missing some hidden drawback?
So, I mainly do dungeons and PvE for fun with my Guardian, and as I’m using a crithammer build, I very rarely go down. I’m checking out sigils for my weapon, but I’m not sure I understand the description on the Sigil of LIfe correctly:
Sigil of Superior Life
You gain +10 healing each time you kill a foe. (max 25 stacks and ends on down or weapon change)
…there’s no time those stacks of +healing. Do they literally last until you go down/swap weapon/zone? It seems too good to be true so I’m thinking it’s a case of poor description of Anet’s part, but, I sure would love that constant +250 healing power.
Can anyone tell me if I’ve got that wrong? Also, has anyone tried it out and if so, how well is it working for you?
