Necro Trait Synergy, Damage, Builds, Tradeoffs and Greatsword (PVP perspective)

I played a necro for a few hours within the first few days of release. At low levels it seemed great, but after reading the forums and talking to people in-game, I can see that necro has its problems. I clicked on the link because I saw greatsword in the title lol. I agree. I usually play a melee hybrid in my games. In FFXI I was a Dark Knight, Shadow Knight in EQ1/2, The Elder Scrolls a greatsword using/dark magic casting machine, GW1 I was a Dervish/Necro, and later a Necro/Dervish (It works, I promise.) While I thought the Guardian would cover my hybrid gameplay, I was mistaken, and now I have an 80 Guardian that I probably won’t use for much aside from farming Orichalcum. Personally, I think every class should have a wide range of weapon choices to open up much more variety in playstyles. And Necro Greatsword would be used by me instantly, even if it is mediocre damage.
The rune of speed? Is it broken as well? That proc on hit is pretty hot. Especially given our plentiful sources of swiftness….. >.<
Out of curiousity, what runes do you all use? I’ll be using 6x Superior Runes of the Pack as soon as the bugs are fixed with 3 and 4 piece bonuses. Now I’m looking for something else to use in the meantime.
I’ve been putting portals underneath them and putting the exit somewhere out of the way. Works like a charm.
Are you making one of every type? (berserker, ravaging, etc) or are you getting enough to make a full set of armor? (Once again, 48+ of the mat)
I’ve found it easier not to single out crafting materials but instead find higher yield money making drops and then buying the crafting materials from the TP. YMMV.
Yeah. I’ve found a few spots where I can farm blood, venom, scales, fangs, and claws at the same time with multiple mob types. Each mat sells for nearly the same, so all I need to do is sell what I’m not going to use and it will even out. Not to mention, the anti-farming code won’t kick in as quick. That is only good for one tier though unfortunately until I find another spot for the next tier, and so on.
To make matters worse, the mats sell for more than the final product does unless you’re making level 80 rares/exotics. The highest buy orders match the kitten vendor prices. And when that happens, I vendor it, unless I know it will sell for a higher sale price.
We have no problem getting drops while wandering through zones. What we are having a problem with is amassing the 48+ blood/fangs/etc for ONE set of mastercraft armor for each tier. 90 for one set of rare armor. Don’t even get me started on powerful blood.
Has anyone noticed a trend going on? The first few weeks everyone has been kittening about GS Warriors being OP. Then Guardians. Then Heartseeking Thieves. Then Cooldown/Backstab Thieves. Now Mesmers. I can’t wait for the wave of criers that claim Engineer’s Juggernaut is overpowered, or better yet, supply drop. Bad players will be bad I suppose. I can’t wait for the 25th. No, I’m not going to touch the abomination, I just can’t wait for a decent sized chunk of the GW2 populace to mass exodus. (Provided they can pay for the thing with their allowance.) It’ll be a great day when /map isn’t loaded with trolls and whiners.
P.S. I’ve reached the point where I just type out kitten… and I’m okay with it.
It wouldn’t be so bad if we didn’t need so much of the monster dropped mats per tier of crafted goods. I would be very content if they upped the required metal/cloth/leather/wood and dropped the required monster dropped loot for non-rare/exotic recipes.
I believe the code you’re referring to is the diminishing return/anti speed clear stuff added a couple of days ago? If so, these issues may turn out to be moot as they are now saying the changes are not working as intended.

No. What the OP is referring to is the anti-farm code that is similar to the one used in GW1. After farming a certain mob type for a set amount of time, the drop rate becomes abysmal. IMHO it is a terrible idea, even if it is trying to root out gold farmers and bots. It hurts the normal players the hardest. Some of us enjoy farming.
People are talking about the good nature of people… meh. An Asuran fell to his death from a vista the other day and landed a few feet from me. My character said, “How did that feel? Excruciating?” I’ve never loved a character like I do now.
Im not even talking about the instance nerf. im talking about the hearts to low levels nerf. Have you tried to level a new toon because i can only play my toon for about 45min before my heart rewards hits 20/3
Umm… When were hearts nerfed?
^ option 2 sounds like a kitten move… And I love it.
The only thing that I don’t like about steal is… Healing Seed. I die a little inside every time this turns up.
^ Whirling Axe is pretty rough. Axe/Shield is pretty nuts as well if they pop their blocks right when I’m about to burst them. Greatsword warriors though… might as well be a free kill. I tried it out just to see what all the rage was about and hated it, so I changed over to sword/warhorn shout based healing/condition removal/condition damage. Great group support, amazing survivability, pretty decent offense. I’ll stick with thief though.
Warriors are easy targets if they are wearing power/precision/crit damage gear. Warriors have a 5 second invulnerable clicky btw. And the toughness/vitality that you get from traits isn’t enough to be “tanky.”
What is the name of the armor the thief wears at class selection screen?

Duelist if i remember correctly.
Wow. People complaining about a melee build in WvW. If all of these complaints about X class beating Y class were answered by Anet, we would be simplified into a class-less system, 100 health, and the only thing we can do is throw rocks at each other just to satisfy your demands to be like everyone else. Every class is different and has different ROLES. Know your role and quit kittening, or gtfo. There are more important things to be complained about besides, “Omg that class with kitten predictable stealth just 3-5 shot me, but I forgot that I can dodge or pop a survival cooldown.” If you are getting 1-2 shot, here’s a tip… Stop speccing/building to be a glass cannon.
Are there any plans on giving Guardians non-caster ranged weapons?

A simple revamp of the scepter abilities could solve this problem. A revamp of spirit bow would be cool too, but since Elementalists already have Conjure Frost Bow, it would kind of take away that uniqueness. It also doesn’t help that Ray of Judgement doesn’t do what one would expect it to do. In GW1, it was THE Monk nuke. And awesome eye candy to boot. Please ANet, give me my moonbeam back.

Guardians are a hybrid. I like the concept of the scepter, but the implementation of how it works is just god awful. The snare is wonderful, smite isn’t too shabby itself, but the auto attack… my god what went wrong here?
