Noticed miself the excact same problem, but it is easy fixed by first do 1 auto attack arrow before the zephyr proc.

That way u are sure to be in combat and dont get the cooldown for nothing.

Best tanking PvE pets for my playstyle: Arctodus and Murrelow. I prefer them over brown bears because their F2 skill significantly adds to my dps. The Murellow actually creates a combo field for everyone around. Particularly useful during all these dynamic events, when people are hacking at same elite your are.

It’s weird though, all bears should have the same survivability, yet to me, it feels like the Arctodus survives the longest each and every time?

For PvP I agree the Brown bear is more useful. Keep it close to you, let it absorb your conditions and damage, and use its F2 ability to shake off that cripple/immobilize.

Ever tried the polar bear?
I find that one even better then the arctodus has more power but no bleed.

I’m a slave to the speed buff from the warhorn. I must have it…

Switch it out on the character screen while not in combat to get your boost Then switch back.

I use it in combat A LOT to kite or just get away from something. It’s also quite a hefty combat boost to you and your allies. A quick swap to it every 30 seconds is pretty significant for the buff.

Switching out of combat manually in my inventory is annoying anyway.

10 stacks of vulnerability with the longbows huntersshot every 12 seconds for all (even when not in range) is better then a buff every 30 seconds for 14 seconds to all (if they are in range of you) in my opinion.

what annoys me the most is not the long grind in GW2 (have them all) but that these pets are completely BS…
The stats are not good compaired to the normal juvinile pets

Since i switched back from Shortbow & axe/warhorn combo to long-/shortbow,
i use the jungle stalker and red moa only in passive mode untill they have given me the nessecary buffs to compensate the warhorns skill 5 buff.

after that petmanagement to maintain the buffs on me whenever they are out of c.d.

No problems with any of the pets F1 skills overhere ..
F2 is a different story tough

1. There are bigger issues that Anet should be focusing on instead of this.
2. Medium Armor is the best looking IMO. Look at the guild medium armor for an example.
3. Ranger does not imply in any way “ranged”. A ranger is someone who wanders about living off the land. Traditionally (LoTR for ex) rangers use greatswords and bows… I don’t understand why people think greatswords should not be used by this class…
4. My pet almost doubles my DPS, gives me around +70-350 damage per hit, and gives me 6 seconds of quickness every 60 seconds. The only reason why people don’t like pets is because they don’t understand how they work.

If your pet is doubling your dps then you are doing something wrong. I mean reaaaallly wrong. There is no way a lynx or any other pet comes close to doubling my dps. Currently the only viable use for the pets outside a 1 on 1 be it pvp or pve is a quickening buff bot.

I see lots of people complain about the complainers and say pets are good. If you think our pets in the current game are good, then you aren’t playing at the top end of the game.

Just for example, with my current build and gear, I can kill one of the giants in Orr in 7 secs. This is without the pet ever touching it.

I use frost spirit in partys all of the time.,
only downside is i have to drop them behind our lines, this means all the melee (range) classes dont benefit from their skillbuff

I would like to tame all of the corrupted and risen…
They just look awesome

Spirit skills are perfectly fine as they are now i.m.h.o.
They only need to deflect more damage !

I lvled this way, at 80 turned to condition dmg and shortbow warhorn – [insert weapon]

now in back to longbow – shortwbow and high critdmg – fury pet build “how i missed it” :P
1st mob in orr 8500+ rapid fire after getting used again with some of the uti skills i now do 11k rapid fires while using zephyr (1,5 seconds cast time)

Thanks for the reply guys but as for dungeons which type should i run? explorable? story?

In Explorable modes you get nearly 30 gear-tokens each run 45 for the first run of the day i tought.
From these tokens you can buy Exotic gear at vendors placed in lions arch nearby the pvp portals.

Tokens you need for each gearpiece cost around 200 till 300.. 1360 for a full set i tought
So … long story short, 10 explorable runs of 1 specific explorable dungeon is 1 gearpiece at no gold costs

Don’t think ranger is dead at all.,
if u play a ranger right u will do alot of dmg PVE wise and Mega Burst PVP wise…
with a lot of pet management between the jungle stalker and red moa i outdamage everyone in my guild.

At this time (lvl 80 full exotic – berserker’s stats) i run a Short-/Longbow spec with the utility skills

- frost spirit
- sharpening stone
- Quickening zephyr
- Rampage as one

At the 1500 range with longbow i get my rapid shots up to 11K dmg within 1,5 seconds while using zephyr
When enemys get closer to you just swap shortbow and start flanking them.

At this point i think Ranger only can get better since the class feels somewhat broken it is defenitly not.
When Spirits getting buffed (and believe me they will be) then the real fun begins.

Just my 2 cent’s tough…

Oh fighting a boss that two shot your pet? f4 in a new one. Oh… it was 3 shot? Ok wait out that 50 seconds left on the swap timer.

Oh swapped before it died? Ok oh no… your other pet just got 1 shot? Enjoy 15 more seconds of less damage while…. waiting to swap to a pet that will trigger a 1m swap cooldoown.

Oh we’re talking about BOSSES now, I see. A few seconds ago we were talking about the “8-9 mobs” you routinely pull, and apparently need to rez your pet during the middle of. I see now the conversation has switched to bosses. My bad.

Yeah having both pets dead in a boss fight is kind of annoying, but I’m not sure why you think taking your own DPS out of the fight instead of just waiting 20 seconds for the timer to come around is a worthwhile endeavor. Are you DPSing with a level 5 axe?

Because in this fantastical scenario you’ve presented us with in which your pet is routinely getting 1 shot before you can hotswap them out, you’re literally reviving your pet every 5-6 seconds. That’s fantastic man. I can totally see why you’d want that back.

He doesn’t. It’s an illusory scenario he’s moved on to after trying the “I routinely pull 8-9 mobs” tact and getting mocked for it. He just didn’t think it through before posting it.

I agree with alsmost everyone in this post that Metsuro.2689 need to learn ranger combat mechanics.

Roam the trade post alot, very good exotic gear to be found for bottom prices..
every new dinged lvl 80 character tryes to make al lot of money on the auction house wich is nearly impossible with our crafting skills.

so the most gear is far underpriced nowadays

1) Swap pet for speed buff throw barrage again and rapid fire the furtest mob.
2) Go to the bathroom
3) come back and loot some more

At least give the pet we swap to a different stackable buff so that when we swap back the 1st pet has his buff again.

The only one ever have a effect of my spirits is me miself and i.
As a longbow ranger i have a huge range 1500 and my pet is somwhat 100 behind me to give me the chance of +20% dmg buff.

I never can buff my party with the spirits because they have a much shorter range and when i drop my spirit in range of them, the spirit probally dies in 5 seconds or less.

This makes the spirit only HALF beneficial for me also because the use skill (chill condition) is never used .

In sPvP or WvWvW i cannot use spirits because they die almost instantly

Had to spam the “juvinile muriello” 6 – 7 times before the poison was dropped
