The command line -cuda was tested on another thread with no apparent improvements to framrates.

You shouldn’t have too much of a problem if you are running latest i7 and video cards, the i7s I’ve mentioned above are the first generation chips.

I have tried 3D, but the performance impact as well as incorrect depth perception really makes the experience null.

But honestly, with all the current problems in framerate lags, I don’t think 3D is on the top of any company’s to do lists.

I think the problem might be with cpu-gpu sync, the game doesn’t compensate any lack of raw cpu power. If you are running an older generation processor, i.e. core 2 duo, core 2 quad, first gen i7 (920s and 700s) that isn’t heavily OCed, you may see significant bottlenecking despite having the latest graphics cards.

With that said, people with high end systems by today’s standards are also not having the greatest framerates. It is rather odd that identical hardware can produce such massive difference in fps e.g. a guildy with same setup is getting constant 100+ fps while I only get 70 at the same location with same settings.

I am just not sure how much Nvidia drivers can fix in the future as gpu usage both core and memory are quite low. The problem is that it’s much easier to upgrade gpu, where as a cpu upgrade would be much more expensive.

I think Anet might have made a slight blunder with the game files, if it were a normal file system (with ini, exe and cfg files) instead of one big compiled file; the players could have helped them in solving the problem. There might be ways to decompile the main data file, but there really isn’t any incentives to do so.

I’ve already made a post regarding the new drivers, tests have confirmed no significant improvements in overall guild wars 2 gameplay, only some minor improvements with particular scenes/graphics properties.

I am been testing the new drivers and old ones for about 2 hours now. Here is what I’ve noticed. Tested on i5-3570k @ 4.4GHz, 8GB RAM and a GTX670 @ 1155/1588

1. There are some improvements with reflected surfaces/maps i.e. water pounds and puddles, I personally noticed a ~ 8-10fps increase.

2. There are no improvements in crowded areas like cities/banks/WvW, I guess those are more cpu dependent, so will have to wait for Anet to optimise their engine.

3. AA still has no effects on performance.

4. Remember to reset your 3D profiles to prefer max performance after clean reinstall.

I guess the majority of the player who are facing problems are to do with the CPU side of the game.

This actually came out a few hours ago, it’s not the “306.02 Beta” drivers, this is the final release.

I read through the blog post by Nvidia, they have officially included SLI and 3D vision support for GW2. Not sure how this will affect normal gameplay.

NOTE- this is not the 306.02 beta drivers, it’s the final release.

^Make sure you download “306.23” if your gpu supports it.

Nvidia did not include any stated performance increases with Guild Wars 2, but like the previous drivers (which also did not include GW2), we may expect some more framerates?

Please post here regarding your performance changes with the new drivers.

Remember when installing, check the “Clean Install” option.

How will control panel help with framerates?

I know a few guildies who claim they run at 100+ even in WvW, running i5 2500k @ around 4.2 and 600 series cards. I am running 3570k @ 4.5 and heavily OCed 670, and not getting nearly as high as that. Hovering around 60-70 ish. 50 in WvW.

Go through the low fps thread, top 3 causes for low performance on high end pc are, video card stuck at 2D mode; cpu or gpu overheating and directx not up to date.

If it’s a clean format, make sure you have installed latest audio, graphics and chipset drivers, you can find them on the manufacturers website for your motherboard.

Also install the latest DX11 AS WELL as the DX9 runtime files. Disable system restore for all your drives.

Just to clarify, the % bar displays how many files you have left to download – not the total % of the client. So whenever you ‘resume’ your download it will go back to 0%.

Actually, non-MS signed drivers often cause problems with rivatuner.

The game is not properly optimised, let’s just hope they will fix it soon. A prime example of a high end game that is well coded is Max Payne 3, but then again, Rockstar has a much higher budget.

The entire data file is around 16GB. The files you were downloading when the system crashes might have been corrupted or the files are being downloaded in fragments, much like a torrent.

140 is not particularly great as a budget, but if you are desperate, this is probably your best choice.

It’s the fastest card out of the 7770 series, and the aftermarket cooler on it is always a bonus. But with that said, an extra 70 dollars will get you something that is 2-3 times faster.

It sounds like an overheating issue, run GPU-Z and see what temperatures you are getting. The 306.02 beta drivers are not particularly optimised for GW2, but Nvidia’s driver release schedule is worse than Blizzard’s game releases.

Technically the ‘beta’ drivers are stable, the only reason why it’s dubbed beta, is because they haven’t send it to Microsoft to be digitally signed.

Personally I would go for zonealarm and an AV program (Avira, AVG etc). Although Norton has come a long way in terms of performances/lag, it still does some stupid stuff in the background.

Those cards are not designed for gaming, I would suggest 7850 or above. Although GW2 is not a GPU dependent game, the cards you mentioned are not equipped to deal with modern day graphics.

As for 1GB or 2GB, it depends on your screen resolution, if you play at 1920×1080 or above, I would suggest 2GB versions of the card.

Check task manager, are all the cores running at 100%? There might be a lot of background programs using CPU power.

Yes, right click the top bit of GPU-Z (the window part), and select “always on top”, then play the game while having gpuz on top of the game screen.

Check GPU usage, core clock speeds, memory controller load etc.

As I said, download GPU-Z, go to the sensor tab, monitor your gpu usage and clocks while playing (don’t alt tab, check ‘while’ playing).

If you use Nvidia, go to your global 3D settings, switch > power management mode > prefer maximum performance. > apply.

If your card is quite old, 9xxx or gtx2xx series, I wouldn’t recommend running background 3D/video programs, as it will actually slow your performance.

Download GPU-Z and monitor your clock speeds/temperatures instead. Your card shouldn’t get stuck at 2D mode, unless your driver is bugged. Reinstalling might help (clean reinstall), but I would suggest a complete system format if you face a lot of graphics driver crashes.

Crashing

My Specs are,

i5 2500k @ 4GHz
8GB RAM
GTX 670 OC
On 306.02 Drivers

At high settings with medium LOD and shadows, can only get around 40-50fps in high density/graphic areas (with no players). Low density areas get around 70ish. WvW is just a cluster bomb and lag feast, unplayable if you want to be competitive.

It does feel like a memory leak/poor cpu optimisation, because when I pan 360 degrees, the already loaded textures requires more loading, even in doors. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the game is just 1 big file.

IMO, GW2 is not as demanding as Tera. If I can run Tera on max with stable 60fps+, I do think it’s something wrong with the game itself.

Haven’t been playing much, since I go for WvW most of the time, and it’s simply unplayable.
