Thanks for the clarification, Zui :-)
While we’re at this, can we please have dyes bound to the outfit like it works with actual armor instead of to the menu?
The ability to swap looks on the go is made rather pointless if I have to stop and redo my dye scheme every time. It’s made even worse when the people making the outfits seem to have no standard with how their materials work.
I have to use the darkest dyes available to make the Sniper outfit not look like a blown out neon mess. The same dyes make other outfits look so dark, details become hard to make out.
Oh, that would be nice to have them bound to outfit, hadn’t even thought of that
Fay, thief don’t apply fury to others, guard don’t cover enough, ele have better to do (just fresh air will apply not enough), Revnant can for part time, tiger is rarely over spamming, ps has better to do… So yes you can handle it in team, but redistributing from a mesmer with epic boon share is pretty cheap for the whole team role in many occasions.
You can also share protection, switness, stability, résistance, regeneration, retaliation (why not do all if u can for sometimes such cheap prices !)I don’t think you understand how boon duration works.
Using signet of inspiration copies the current duration of boons on you. It is not affected by boon duration. Only boons that you yourself apply are affected by boon duration. Since you don’t generate protection, fury, swiftness, stability, resistance, regeneration, or retaliation, your personal boon duration is completely meaningless.
Uhhh… if that’s remotely accurate, then why is everyone chasing Boon Duration at all?
This AND hiding outfit shoulder parts would make outfits AWESOME.
That too, since giant pauldrons are and instant no go for me but I would guess that would be harder to do
I agree – that seems much harder to do, and would break the convention of the outfit in the first place.
However, you can already hide the headpiece… so just let me see my armor headpiece
I don’t understand how this idea could not have come up during discussion on outfit implementation. The game designer knows that people love customization, love mix and match, love colours, yet what is implemented is an outfit system that does not allow mix and match, has no interchangeable head-piece, and has limited colour channels. Weapons can not be dyed either, even in part.
Well before GW2 was announced, the designers decided not to allow weapons to be dyed — apparently, it saved them a huge amount of coding and made it easier to modify existing skins. In essence, they are partly able to release new BL skins often because of this.
Similarly, the entire point of outfits is that they are not very customizable. Again, that’s a design decision that allows them to release a greater number of skins.
Some players feel that there is sufficient customization in being able to change outfits, while many feel as you do that mixing and matching (and dyeing) are ‘better’ options.
In the end, it’s one of those cost:benefit analyses that won’t make everyone happy.
- More options = fewer pieces, since each piece needs to be designed with that in mind.
- Fewer options = more pieces, since e.g. outfits can stand on their own.
I’m not suggesting that you have to agree that ANet mad a ‘good’ choice. I merely ask that you see the decision from their point of view, specifically that they had a good reason for non-dyeable weapons and have a good reason for releasing outfits through the gem shop.
I’m also not altogether sure how ANet can tell what the “best” mix of options would be for the community. There are clearly people passionate about more mix|match, while plenty like having more overall skins to choose from, with more frequent updates. For those who hate outfits, there is probably no good mix.
Given that you can already Hide the head portion of an outfit tells me that showing the head skin of something else should be relatively easy
mesmer is to be thought wider from start.
those discussions about not reducing mesmer’s dps to get in a way or another boon duration… are sort of kittened.1. what is your role ?
quickness / boons / grab reflects, and THEN dps… so make sure you can ensure it in any situation ! nothing’s worse than a mes not donig its role (being bumped by an add is not a valid excuse to fail 40 seconds of boon applications)2. dps, really ?
a mesmer dps is clearly less than 50% of the top dps classes of the game (I would rather say around 30% from what I saw but nvm). so optimizing 2 seconds of dps of 4 allies every 1 minut gets easily better than having 5% more dps. so think it twice when you go for a dps configuration, cause if you can prevent 3 allies to dodge, it might be just better !3. there are way more traits on mesmer that can be used and interestiong, depending on your setup. but as long as you go for boon share, you got to help sharing other important boons, either through a revnant if you cannot get them on your own (in which case you have 50% boon duration less to manage), or on your own, thanks to some build tricks that do exist, or thanks to some other classes (a guard in mesmer team would prioritize its protections and fury to the mesmer so those guard skills can be shared several times with rest of the team for instance (trap + trap + elit + hammer))
This is basically what I was thinking. Sure, there might be a rotation on paper that gets you by without needing to max personal boon duration, but we’re all human, and it seems better to have a little extra buffer to make sure that we’re doing our job:
Quickness / Boons / Pulls / Reflects
There is nothing better than 100% boon duration and perma quickness. But if reached this point, you can’t get any better.
The only reason to use commanders gear is in a party with 10 people and with no Rev.
But is Leadership now better than Rune of Chronomancer, regardless of Commander stats…?
It’s possible to get ascended Commander’s Amulets, Rings, and Accessories via raid rewards. Each costs 250 Magnetite shards, meaning it’d take approximately 7 weeks of capping on shards to get all of those items (also assuming you salvage some minis/armor to make up for the additional 50 tokens you need to hit 750).
As for Sigils of Concentration, just keep it on your main hand. Having one in both offhands would just double the cost, for no additional benefit.
Only exotic trinkets give you the option for Doubloons, ya?
It seems like with the new Raid wing and the need for utilities other than wells, that Leadership Runes are becoming a better option, since you might only have 1-2 wells total, kinda making Runes of the Chronomancer a waste, especially if you opt for Seize the Moment.
I was looking at that, and it didn’t seem very accurate. It calls for Ascended Trinkets giving 314 concentration, but as far as I know, there aren’t even Commander Trinkets/Rings in the game? And even if there were, you can’t put Platinum Doubloons in Ascended Trinkets, only Agony Infusions, and there isn’t a version of those that gives Boon duration.
Is the highest personal Boon duration ~80% with Chronomancer Runes?
(100+ with Leadership Runes, but that seems like a bad sacrifice…)
17% from Commander’s Armor & Weapon
33% from Sigil of Concentration
20% from Food
10% from Bountiful Sharpening Stone
Also, is there a benefit to having 2 Sigils of Concentration? One for each off-hand? Or are people putting one just in their main-hand?

My Necro can’t wear her Demon Masque with an outfit. Her face is….. nekid.
/shudders
I absolutely love the skull facepaint mask on my Sylvari Necro. Being unable to use it with Outfits is why I don’t wear them on him. Wish I could just tattoo it to his face. XD
…or just make life easy and gimme my custom head-piece with outfits.
Just think of how many more Hats and Outfits they would sell in the Black Lion store if they fixed this issue
Other things like the hats, glasses, and ears…. oh how I wish I could pair those with outfits
ArenaNet, please look into wearing custom head skins with Outfits
Hello,
I’m looking for a static group or guild to Raid with. My main is a Chronomancer, fully ascended, and I have the Eternal title. My tanking gear is Commanders and my DPS/Support gear is Assassin/Zerk
I’m in Texas, and typically play after 8:30CST, so it would be great to find a group that Raids M-Th after 9:30EST/6:30PST or during the days on Saturday or Sunday (or even very late night Saturday)
I am more than willing to join a guild and rep it 100%, too.
If you have any extra questions, let me know!
I thought they did… Do they not work with the new ones? They need to work with all of them
They work with clones, not phantasms.
The clones carry them, but of course they don’t fire your off-hand :-(
I like the idea behind compacting your inventory, however, it needs a little more love.
Right now, it does not affect any special bags, i.e. Rarity bags or Invisible bags. Also, it only compacts in one direction.
What would be helpful, is if each bag had checkboxes, and you could state if it compacts (or not) and if it pushes to the front or backwards.
I wasn’t really thinking it through when I started making HOPE and how little of the visual pizzaz I would be getting from the awesome “bullets” that HOPE fires, since our Pistol Phantasms use their own gun with their own SFX :-(
It would be wonderful if ArenaNet would let our Phantasms use the Legendaires that we have worked so hard to obtain.
“You have joined too many parties recently. Please wait a moment before trying to join again.”
First off, a “moment” is longer than 45 minutes, it seems.
Second, how is this still a thing? I am unable to participate in any group content in the game because of this. A massive multiplayer game, and I am excluded all because I was trying to find a raid group, thus advertising LFR. My advertisement would disappear, so I would re-add it 5-10 minutes later.
Now, I am basically blocked from the LFG tool. I can’t go do HoT meta events, Fractals, Raids, etc.
Been blocked out for over 45 minutes now, even tried re-logging.
Going to throw my hat in here too that this needs to be fixed much sooner than it has been :-(
Three Orr bosses now I have activated the Soul Battery and NOT received credit for it. During the fight, I even checked the timer on the “buff” that the battery gives you, and each time it has 3+ minutes remaining, and the the boss dies, I get ZERO update to the HOPE IV collection, and the Soul Battery “buff” is now missing.
Still bugged for me. Anyone else?
Still bugged for me.
Human, Female, Mesmer
Never really gone for a heavy shatter build, I usually have done Phantasm or Mantra (or some blend between).
I read today that my Ranger Runes no longer work with Illusions, so time to replace them!
So, for a shatter PvE build, I am debating between:
Pack
Scholar
Strength
*Using Travelers for my PVT gear when I WvW
I was having the same problem but than i started clicking around the white space on the gw window, it looks like the “Play” button is there but not visible, once i hit it by accident the game started, try clicking around it, at one point it even took me to the reset password page.
I can confirm this.
I clicked randomly in the white area and eventually hit the invisible button and was able to play.
I didn’t have to move any of my SweetFX files to get this to work.
Do Southsun Supply Crates still drop?
Was wondering if it’s worth it to try to go out and farm for a few.
The new rings are much better for colourblind people like me. Now I can actually see where Liadris, Bloomhungers and wurms AoEs land and actually be able to react to them in time without having to look at my characters feet all the time.
Yeah, I am colourblind as well, and I really appreciate the new circles.
There is no difference gameplay wise. The orange ones are redesigned AoE Circles for better visibility. The old red “outlines” are barely visible at some point, so they redesigned them on new or updated encounters (like Jungle Worm in Caledon Forest).
Hmm, I wonder why they didn’t just flat out replace the old red rings then?
What exactly is the gameplay difference between the newer orange/red circles that are filled in and the legacy red rings?
My guess is that the filled in ones represent single damage attacks (the occur only once at that point), and the red rings are condition fields or damage over time.
But if that’s true, it seems weird that the launch content really had no single damage attacks and is mostly DoTs?
I’m new to Elementalist, and was looking for recommendations on runes and sigils for leveling my character.
I was thinking of doing Scepter/Dagger as I heard that’s a good combo to level up with.
Thanks in advance!
I’d vote Traveler. Generic enough to work for either Ele or Mesmer, and plenty useful for a WvW Mesmer. After all, most folk use a Soldier’s set primarily for WvW business.
Although, if you don’t mind a more “focused” stat-boost with your movespeed, Superior Speed. Especially since Eles have garbage Health :P
Cool – I think I may go towards that. One of my guild leaders also suggested getting another set of Travelers to add to my new PTV set.
I’m leaning towards Divinity because of them making Ascended gear account-bound, and if I level up an Ele, it would be generic enough to help both classes.
Q: I just made my Ascended PTV armor for my Mesmer and am debating between:
- Travelers
- Divinity
- Strength
- Scholar
I plan to use the PTV armor for Tequatl, Wurm, and large WvW zergs.
Thoughts?
~~~
FWIW, I already have a Ascended Zerker set that has full Travelers on it
I got it just fine after killing the priest. This may be a silly question, but are you doing enough damage to the priest to get credit for the event? If not, that would explain why it’s not unlocking for you.
Of course, if you are getting credit for the event, it’s probably some sort of bug. It’s pretty common to have a whole host of assorted bugs with a big release like this.
Yeah, all three times I was given “Gold” for the event.
I was even hitting for over 10,000 for many of my attacks.
I’ve killed the High Priest of Grenth three times now, and haven’t unlocked the trait.
Twice was after an escort event bringing a guy to the temple, the third time was when I logged in and he spawned a few minutes later (much easier fight than the post-escort one, btw).
Um, wth?
Twice was after an escort event bringing a guy to the temple, the third time was when I logged in and he spawned a few minutes later (much easier fight than the post-escort one, btw).
Any idea why I still don’t have the trait?
The tooltip just says to kill the Priest
A large group of players just killed the Risen Priest of Grenth and many noticed that it did NOT unlock their new traits.
Hi Nezz,
I’d recommend submitting a support ticket for this particular issue as we’ll likely need to collect a bit of info from you in order to track down the cause.
Does this mean that the over one hundred times I’ve reported this problem using the crash report pop-up thingy does nothing? We still have to submit a ticket to get this issue looked at and fixed?
I’ve been crashing (only in WvW) and that’s what I do – hit the report button in the dialog that pops up on my desktop.
Never knew I needed to submit ANOTHER ticket to get them to pay attention this this problem >.>
…oh what I wouldn’t give for a x64 client….
Oh, one more question:
Given the changes that might be coming in for Zerk stats and any other balance, think it’s best to hold off on crafting stuff to completion for now?
I can just hoard my Damask in the mean time…
oh man im sorry but if youve got ascended clerics its not sooooo bad, tkae a pu build with signet of inspiraiton and spread that tasty regen round, its not the best but that would be better than zerk, i dont allow any of my allies to roam with zerk, if they die others will die trying to res and they will just res the enemies through the broken downed mechanic
PU build??
With the current meta, zerker is the only option. Anything else and you’d be shooting yourself in the foot.
Yes, even on fractal level 50.
Thanks, good to know. I’ve done a lot of 49, but haven’t tried 50 yet.
Thanks, I don’t know why I am asking this after making two pieced of ascended cleric armor… <cry>
I see a ton of weapon and build guides that are stickied, but no armor guide?
Is this because (given the current meta) you should be always wearing zerk gear? I’ve heard that’s true for PvE, but does that hold for WvW, too?
I have a full exotic set of Berzerkers, an a full set of Clerics (which I started converting into Ascended). But now I am hearing that my efforts in making Cleric is a complete waste? I went with Cleric because I wanted more toughness (to survive) and healing power (because I use Restorative Mantras, and cast Mantra of Pain a ton).
Build: 20/20/0/30/0
So, do I just abandon my Cleric set? (Right now its 4 pieces exotic, 2 pieces ascended)
Should I bother having two sets of armor at all? Does this all hold for WvW, or should I convert my Cleric set to a PVT set for WvW?
Okay, then I think you know what gear you want to use. Why ask us?
Anyway, check out the FAQ sticky on builds. this forum generally uses the meta build, as that states.
Have fun and may the fractals RNG be ever in your favor.
Well, it’s still nice to bounce ideas off of other people
I get that. The thing is, in higher level fractals, the one hit downed mechanics make defensive stats sort of useless, whereas getting the boss dead quicker is the best way to mitigate dead teammates and party wipes. That’s why dps is the meta.
Now, like I said, if you want to be more defensive because you don’t want to be downed (or are still learning when to dodge, that sort of thing) using a couple knights pieces, or in your case, since you are interested in healing, Zealots, that would be fine.
Just a thing to note, a lot of parties in high level fractals require zerker builds and gear. Start your own groups if you can’t find any that you qualify for, though, because there are plenty of people in both fields. (Zerk vs nonzerk)
Swifty: yeah, well, you know, play how you want. Lol.
I’m plenty good at dodging, and I’ve done more than my fair share of level 49 Fractals. I was at 49 way before the patch, probably back in spring or earlier is when I hit it.
Annnnyways,
I’m looking at being proactive to the potential nerfs to not only the Zerk sets but also to the rumored nerfs to Vigor.
OP, learn the encounters (and how to play your class) and you won’t go down as much. Healing power won’t help you stay alive at level 48 fractals.
I know the encounters, I’ve played them plenty. And few are a DPS race; if anything, the hardest ones have no time limit, and the main thing is: Don’t Die.
For this reason, Restorative Mantras (which I think OP means instead of “healing mantras”) is also close to useless.
Yes, I meant Restorative Mantras
Huh.
I guess I figured being less squishy in Fractals would be best. I’m at fractal level 48, and the times that I die (wearing my full zerk exotics), I feel bad.. thought I should be less squishy and provide that healing to the group with Healing Mantras (which I love and have been using for months now).
I’m currently making my Mesmer an ascended armor set, and I’m going with Cleric stats.
Is that a decent choice? For open world stuff, I have full zerk stuff, but for Fractals I wanted to bring in that healing power.
I thought about making the set half Cleric and half Magi, too. But at that rate, shouldn’t I just make a full Celestial set?
BTW, my phantasm build is:
20/20/0/30/0
FWIW:
Tateos -> Cleric
Hronk -> Magi
Wupwup -> Celestial
