Can we assume that there is no way they’d release the next chapter of living story while the game client is still broken for all mac users? None of us would be able to participate in the climax of the living story, so I don’t think they’d do that, would they? Any update, Gaille?
I don’t think the other players would appreciate that all that much.
So, the best plan is to release the climax of the living story when they know that 6 to 8 percent of the players cannot play it? That makes no sense and would certainly erode the goodwill the mac users have had till now. Delaying release by a week so they can have all of the customer base be able to enjoy the product is not a large issue. Software releases are delayed all of the time. I used to manage the QA department for a small software company and, while delays aren’t wanted, releasing a broken product knowing full well it is broken is even less desirable. But, maybe they have a fix going in. Would be nice to know, hence people requesting an update.

Any update with the fix for mac users? It has been a week since the mac beta client was broken. I assume you aren’t planning on releasing another chapter of Living Story while this is still broken.

On the topic of the problem, I am not sure, but the evening (eu time) the patch came out, my husband and I did the Megadestroyer event before the first update to the patch was released. we did not notice any fps issues then. However, later that night after the first update, I tried wvw and had the issue we’re all describing. And, the day after, I did the Megadestroyer event again with my husband and we both had very poor fps. There were perhaps less people the second time we were there as well. It could be that something in the first update was a problem or this could just be useless and anecdotal, so take it for what it’s worth.
Hi. I’m having a problem deciding which armour and rune sets to buy and would like some help if someone has time, please.
I like to do wvw support type stuff- follow the commander around and heal a bit, buff a bit, tag people for loot, raise the downed in sketchy situations and maybe do a little damage sometimes. I see the build with magi and clerics with soldier runes in this thread, but every guide for this same type of build has something different. Some full soldier’s. Some mixed. At the moment, I am not one to want to go frontline face melting, but I would like a shot at being able to kill something sometimes. Should I just do the full healing set like in this thread or something in between?
Also regarding runes… I really am tempted to take Traveler runes. I am so tired of getting a little behind the group and then just losing ground because there are no speed buffs and I am soooooo slow. I currently put Retreat! on my bar a lot because of that even though it’s not the best choice. Is there a down side to Traveler or another way to get the speed that I am missing?
For weapons, I have cleric’s staff and knight’s great sword equipped usually. I also have a soldier’s hammer, berserker’s sword and berserker’s focus in my bags.
Oh, and trinkets… I see some people suggest celestial, some suggest soldier or clerics or magi… you name it. Pretty much everything is suggested. Before I spend my guild tokens and laurels, I want to be sure I am buying the right thing.
Advice would be really welcome. I’ve been dithering on this choice for a couple of weeks now since it costs so much and I don’t want to buy all the wrong stuff and then put skins on them only to realise I made a huge mistake (like the first time I hit 80 and spent all my karma on rare quality items from vendors not knowing there were exotics for karma, too). I have read various builds, of course, but they all suggest something different so it is hard to know which have good advice and which don’t.
Thanks for the update, Gaile. If you can’t fix this in the next couple of days, wouldn’t it be good to roll back the changes so you could fix them at your leisure? Right now, mac users cannot participate in any of the group stuff for living story. It would not be nice to have to miss all the events (current and future) because it takes a long time to fix things. Then, after you have fixed the issues and tested it (even on the mac client which obviously wasn’t in the QA process for this patch), you can roll it back out.
As to why people post in multiple places, you answered that yourself- silence. Perception is reality and people perceive that the company does not care about the mac beta client. Just look at the ‘is the mac client feasible’ post: a person comes here and says she is concerned about buying a mac because she knows that the mac beta client is no longer officially supported. That’s how people see it. However, this could be easily fixed by communicating more if there really is work on the client. If there is not, then communicating about that would be equally helpful.
Everyone, try deleting your “~/Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2” directory. It will be recreated next time you launch the client.
Support told me to try that and it appears to have helped. I’m in EotM right now getting up to 50-75 FPS again on my normal settings. It is dipping down to 10-20 with a lot of people around but it is actually playable now.
Tried that, but it is not fixed unfortunately.
Seems this is all mac related, Why not move this post over to the Mac Forums?
Linux users should also Follow, even if using Wine/Cedega.HAHAHAHA we came over here from the Mac forums because staff stopped reading that board MONTHS ago. Until this issue gets addressed officially us Mac users are desperately trying to get attention to it as the game is unplayable.
Have you considered the Bug Forum?
the Mac Client is still in Beta, AFAIK, Short of Calling their support or reporting to the Bug Forum there isnt much else you can expect :-)Its obviously an Engineering issue with the software update on OSX. However, just like your mac Forum, we dont get much Anet responses here either.
I think the difference here is that they actually broke the mac beta client with this patch. It is now unplayable in group content. You would expect them to at least acknowledge it.
I’ve seen quotes that say mac users are estimated to be about 6 to 8% of the people who play MMOs. If that holds true for GW2, then they broke the game for 6 to 8% of the player base and have yet to say a word about it.
One would think that they would just roll back the changes and work on a new implementation that doesn’t break the mac beta and then roll it out again when it is stable. They couldn’t have possibly done any real testing on a mac beta client since the results are so obvious and dramatic.
And, I agree that communication is a problem across the board.
To follow up, the client optimizations that I mentioned before went out with the build today. Let me know if you saw improvements. Feel free to list your specs too!

Are you guys aware that this patch broke the mac beta client? If so, any estimates on when you will fix it (meaning, give us at least the mediocre performance we had before)? Communication would be nice. The perception is that the mac beta client (beta for over a year!) is abandoned and the total silence on the issue two days after people said that the client was broken just feeds that perception. Would love to hear and see that the perception is wrong.

Same. This patch broke the Mac Beta Client. Did they even test the patch on a mac?
Were there any optimizations for AMD CPUs?
Theoretically everyone should see an improvement.
People using the Mac client now have unplayable frame rates in wvw and framerate is much worse everywhere else. This change had the opposite effect for Mac users than intended. Please fix it quickly as this is a game breaker.

Same. I have a new iMac- got it two weeks ago. WvW is now totally unplayable.
My husband and I find the game unplayable half the time due to the lag issue that started about a week or so ago. Would be nice to have a rep say they know about the problem and are working on it.

I hope so. The Living Story is great. The method of having the world change (temporary content) is brilliant. Most MMOs have these static environments that are just dull. You see people complaining about content not being permanent, but old content in other games just sits there- it is no longer relevant and it destroys the timeline of the game world.
I know some people say they don’t like to miss parts of the story, but, in my opinion, it is quite possible to miss some pieces, but to jump right in and participate in the latest installment. I missed a number of the updates, but I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything because there is something new to do every couple of weeks.
Zuzz, try opening Activity monitor and Force quit Guild wars from there. Also, cookied and c-something server. That helped me be able to launch the game after getting the nothing that you got.
Is it too hard? Respect the awesome work

As an older player who never did any of the mario thingies or whatever, this is just way too difficult. As it stands, I am not sure I will want to try it again. My husband and a friend and I spent a couple hours in there and afterwards my husband said, “I can’t believe I just wasted my evening on that.” That’s putting it mildly, I thought. It was incredibly frustrating and obviously not aimed at players like me, I think.
I did enjoy the last couple of living world patches. This one, though… way too difficult and frustrating to want to spend the evening ‘relaxing’ with it. And, we did do the previous SAB. I found it difficult in some parts, but nothing like this new one.
The camera or field of vision or whatnot is so close that it gives me a headache to play. I have looked at this forum and saw a topic in the windows tech forum about them fixing the fov issues and so on some months ago. I looked at the screenshots in that thread after the fix and people are zoomed out quite nicely. However, I don’t see any options to zoom out more and my camera is really close in. Is this fov or zoom fix in the mac beta? If so, how do I activate it?
I love the game, but it gives me a headache to play for very long. Any help would be appreciated.
