Hey guys, I do qualify as “older” with 51y of age. Do you still accept members? And having said that….. Since old age comes with memory loss and I’ve recently restarted playing GW2 prepare for some silly questions….
Yes, that will qualify you. Though, I will say you won’t be the oldest in the guild by a long bit if you choose to join us. Just post an application on the forum as that serves as a social introduction and we will send you an invite.
Guess what? We’re still recruiting older adults who want to tell the the kids to get off their lawn.
Summer time is here and we’re still recruiting old people! Join us in complaining about the heat!
Our first ever Name That Tune game is on 10 June. Asura polo is still a staple in the guild.
Asura Mini Golf is back by popular demand, or so I am told. If you’re an older type and want to have fun in a casual social environment, consider joining us.
Also, after a long guild discussion, we determined that people named Cornelius should be particularly encouraged to apply.
We’re still looking for more ye olden times people to join us. This monday the 24th, we have our Dangerous Deeds and Unbelievable Screeds event.

The Art Collective contest has occurred! Many berets were tilted at a jaunty angle, platitudes were spoken, and aesthetic derision offered. Here are the results http://vl.enjin.com/home/m/43378915/article/4178067
Never fear, though, new contests are pending. Join us now and take part in the absurdity.
Conjure your inner artist! Join us for Oups! I made an Art… on 10 April.

It’s not too late to join us for the next round of Where’s Eduardo and His Inexplicably French Sister, Suzette. Happening on 3 April.
Thanks for fixing the airship. That hiss was headache inducing.
27 March is our big Asura Mini Golf Tournament. We’re having an asura who is a professional mini golfer come by and show us a few swings. Just kidding. We’re going to club an asura around a mini golf course in our arena.
We’re still looking for new members.
20th March, we are presenting Skaggy’s Big Adventure. It will be a game hosted by our very own Underdark. This doesn’t sound like something you can resist.
Updated to our new guild site. (the old one was behind a pay wall that we were tired of paying for)
We’re still recruiting and looking for people to join us.
I want pistols for a mid-range spell slinger.
I don’t like the snowball packs – when you open them the snowballs fly out in a circle from your character making impossible for me to use more than 3 of them before they disappear. I could possibly use 4 by throwing faster, but I already miss enough times.
Its like a bad carnival game tricking me out of my money.
If you don’t want a solution, that’s fine; just don’t do the daily. If you want to do it, this is an easy and fairly quick method and the gift you get from completing it more than covers the cost of the snowballs, let alone the daily reward. The snowball packs are slightly over 2 silver each and you don’t need more than three.
I did a screenshot of the exact place I stand for this. Works easily without getting aggro. Hope it helps.
(edited by ananda.5946)
This is an easy daily if you don’t try to throw snowballs at the dolyak gift event. Instead:
buy two or three packs of snowballs,
enter Tixx’s Infinarium solo,
wait a minute or two for the skritt to settle down (some groups will just stand in place),
Use snowball pack outside aggro range of skritt,
Throw snowballs at skritt x10 from outside their aggro range (if you do aggro, just run away and they reset).
One note: the skritt don’t get knocked down by the snowballs, but it still counts.
Hope that helps some frustrated people.
Disaster averted; the guild hall still stands despite the errant torch. Fortunately, the guild hall was made of stone and thus didn’t burn. We had a few nice, new people join lately and are still looking for more. Just introduce yourself on our forums for an invite.
I’ve added the times for the guild events in the original post since people have been messaging with questions about it. We’ve gotten a few new members lately and are still looking for more fun, friendly older gamers.
Hi, Moto. Our casual guild is mainly comprised of older players (min age is 20s, but the most active people are mostly in the 30s, 40s with the ceiling going up to 60s, I think.
You can join with a quick introduction here:
http://www.vanishing-legacy.com/gw2
We are pretty active and have social activity nights on sundays and mondays, though we will do stuff other nights if people feel like it. Some of us are on Piken, but, with mega servers, it only matters for wvw (which I also do a lot of). The only thing our guild asks is that our members be older and friendly.
Had to chuckle at the recruit message. Adult and mature but min 21 years old,
I consider mature as in old cheese so a lot older.Lee
Heh, yeah. I am in my late 40s, so maybe I am a bit biased toward the age demographic I hope we attract. We are looking for older, mature adult types, though, if you are interested. Many of us are older gamers with fond memories of the 60s, 70s, 80s, et cetera.
Vanishing Legacy is an established guild for older players who want a fun, casual social environment. We have two scheduled social activities each week (Guild Missions and a free form group event) that people can attend if they feel so inclined.
We also have a friendly, lighthearted atmosphere in the guild chat and use Discord for voice coms where many bad jokes are ventured. All new members are encouraged to participate in the guild chat and to get on Discord and join in the fun.
Our current guild events are on mondays and sundays at 20 gmt/21 gmt +1.
What we ask from potential members:
Mid 20s and up
Be easy going and friendly
Additionally, PVE representation is appreciated but not required. It is our hope that the guild atmosphere will be such that you will want to represent. What we do ask is that, even if you don’t always represent the guild, that you remain socially active.
To apply for the guild, we ask for a quick introduction posted here:

How are you guys still selling the Mac version? You know it barely functions and you know you can’t fix any of the many critical issues.
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28147936-Guild-Wars-2-Mac-Edition
I appreciate the position you were in with Transgaming, but that situation occurred a long time ago now and, with no solution in place for over a year, it is not honest to continue advertising GW2 as working in OS X. It’s not like people who are deceived by this won’t notice. You could change the Mac support page to suggest Bootcamp for now with the hope of a native client potentially being released at some unknown future date. But, to keep up a description of a Mac beta client that isn’t even supported anymore is highly dishonest and not the way to endear the company to OS X users.
I am curious; is this native client effort a serious one with a dedicated team or a sort of side project when people aren’t busy doing other things? I am so sick of using Windows. It truly is a terrible OS as compared to OS X. And, I really, really miss my magic trackpad functionality.

It is not just that it doesn’t direct properly, but the personal story is never suppressed even if you have chosen to suppress it or to turn the content guide off completely.
Also, any chapter you are playing in the Living World gets displayed after a relog, even if you Quit This Episide. It becomes re-enabled each time you come back.
If you mean that info about your next Personal Story step that shows up above Achievement section, that one isn’t affected by Content Guide and will never go away until you finish PS and LS. What the Content Guide affects is that area with a compass and the option about Personal Story is if it should point you the direction where the green star (PS marker) is at or not.
More about it: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Graphical_user_interface#Content_guide
I’m talking about the Living World season 2. I can Quit this Chapter and the directions will disappear. Then, when I come back, it is there again as though I never quit that chapter. I have to go to Story tab on the Hero window and quit the chaper all over again every time. I have finished both the personal story and living world season 2. You can check out, but you can never leave.
Perhaps this is not part of the Content Guide, but it is still buggy none the less. Maybe it should be a new thread if it is something separate?

One strange thing with the PC these days is that mine will yell something like, ‘That will leave a mark!’ or ’That’s got to hurt!’ as if to taunt the NPCs she just hit, but it happens when they hit me! Is my character taunting herself now? I don’t remember this happening before.
I really don’t like this change. It takes up even more screen real estate now and there is a permanent scrollbar on the side. An option for the layout of preference would have been a much better solution.
Add some hairstyles for naturally curly hair. There isn’t really much choice right now.

Scaling is one of the best things about GW2. Every time my husband tries a new game, one of the first questions I ask is if they have scaling. He always says no and I always say that they should learn from GW2.
The human female swing looks like she’s doing some anatomically impossible move when the sword whips in a fun circle behind her back. It is as if her elbow or wrist is on a swivel. To understand what I’m saying, pick up any object in your hand and swing like the animation. You will find your wrist does not allow such a movement when the sword goes behind you, rather, it would slice you in half.

My post has …
Again, off-topic and inaccurate assessment of reality.
The fact is that Anet offers a Mac solution for GW2. Fact two is that the solution does not work. Discussion topic is, “please, Anet, fix the Mac solution or quit knowingly selling a broken product”.
This will be the last time I’ll reply to this because you seem to be stuck in a recursive loop.
(edited by ananda.5946)
Did you even read my post or just read that one line and that’s it?
I hate it when people don’t even read a well thought out post…
I did read your entire post. Which part did you think was well thought-out and germane?
On the topic, though, I think it is obvious that Anet dearly wants to maintain the Mac user revenue stream or they’d have not knowingly sold HoT as Mac ready when they knew it no longer worked. Whether they are willing (and able) to truly dedicate the resources to the OpenGL client so they can retain the market is another matter. I’m also sceptical as to whether they are serious about it and can do it based on their track record. I will be pleasantly surprised if they do, however.
I feel I can safely most of the people e who takes PC gaming as a serious hobby are still not buying Mac products as their gaming rig …
I think it is safe to say that most people who play games are not serious gamers with a “gaming rig” in the first place. Most people have a home computer that serves several needs with gaming likely not being a priority. Yet, these same people still comprise the majority of computer users.
A typical person who plays games probably has a family, a job, and many other considerations. The gaming such a person does is probably a couple of hours on a few evenings or whatever during the week. The computer they have is most likely not optimised for gaming.
You are almost certainly right, however, that a serious game hobbiest, as you put it, has a special gaming computer. However, these people are not a majority.
Whether Anet finally decides to get serious about tapping the Mac user market is another question. I am sure they have all of the statistics about the market. And, it is obvious that they are interested (hence the so-called Mac Beta for the last couple of years). We are still yet to see, however, if they can manage to make it work. So far, it has been a poor effort, but maybe they will finally come through with a native client since the wrapper is on lifesupport. In the end, despite wanting the Mac market, they may have to let it go for lack of resources to deliver. Time, I suppose, will tell.
Fine. Then let’s stay that’s true. Let’s ignore this entirely.
The majority of Macs being produced still use integrated Intel graphics cards, which just can’t handle 3D games.
The gesture based controls of the laptops, their highest selling product and what makes laptop such an amazing tool, also doesn’t work well with traditional games.
I have GW2 installed on the MacBook Pro that I am writing this forum post from. The game runs like kitten on the lowest graphic settings.
I play turn based games and card games off my MacBook Pro, because they work really well with the gesture based touchpad.
Apple isn’t serious about gaming rigs and it’s not a great investment for a gaming company to spend resources making a client to target a line of products that is sub par for running their games, even if a lot of casual users own Macs.
Macs as gaming machines are getting there, but it’s still a long way away from being ideal.
But, none of that has anything to do with the fact that many people do have Macs and that there is a market there that Anet obviously wants to penetrate. I also have a Mac and have used them to play games on casually for the last ten years. I know they aren’t top notch for games because iMacs, for example, have mobile graphic cards and so are a sort of desktop hybrid, but they are quite fine (especially for things like MMOs which tend to have lower system requirements, WoW being an excellent example with its native OS X client).
But, the question isn’t whether Macs are an optimal gaming setup, but rather, if they are a market worth penetrating due to the number of potential customers. So far, Anet’s efforts in penetrating the market have been half measures. Soon, we’ll see if they decide to go all the way in or to give up, I think.

I dislike Macs because …
I think we are missing the point here. Liking or disliking Macs is irrelevant. The issue at hand is:
- Anet sells Guild Wars 2 as working on Macs
- Guild Wars 2 does not work on Macs (performance was pretty poor leading up to HoT and nearly unplayable since HoT (which was known before launch, but they sold it anyway))
Therefore, they need to either fix the Mac client as a priority or end support for it and compensate those who purchased for Mac use.
I hope they make a native client, but one may think they should end support rather than devote time to fixing the issue, and that is valid either way. However, opinions about whether people like Macs or not just does not matter relative to the situation and one would think, as a fellow customer, even those who don’t like Macs could get behind this situation having a resolution.
Fixing the mac client so it works should be something they dedicate resources to, I would think. They sell the game to people with OS X, so they really need to make it actually work. If you sell a product knowing it is defective, it’s called fraud. Regardless of people’s opinions about Macs, Anet sells the programme as working on OS X, therefore, it should actually work on OS X. Else, they should just stop selling it for Mac.
For those who don’t understand the difference between a Mac and a PC, here is a short video that explains it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZXY5990xZs&ab_channel=Computerphile
Having both operating systems (I have an iMac with Bootcamp), I really, really, really prefer OS X. It is just way nicer to use. Unfortunately, as FF mentioned, though developers could make games that work on both platforms, they don’t because Microsoft incentivises them to use Direct X. Therefore, if we want to game sometimes, we are left having to play one of the games that offers an OS X client or need to install Bootcamp for a Windows partition.
And, for most people, I imagine, gaming is not their number one priority when buying a computer. And, likewise, most people who play games are not dedicated gamers, but rather people who, like me, play sometimes. In our household, we choose our computer based on which is best for work and that is a Mac.
This is a really good decision, I think. The best thing GW2 had going was the frequent updates of a living story. That has been missing for a long time now and getting it back would be great, at least in my opinion. I loved living story season 1 and the way the open game world evolved and changed frequently.
Going back to a real living world and fixing the mac client would be great.
Just checking that I’ve got it right.

While I am glad to hear they are trying to do something, it is a little bizarre that they are not communicating anything on the official forums so people don’t think they just gave up. I hope it works out, but the communication really needs to improve.
We don’t have much to say about it. That’s often why we are silent. I don’t want to give you all hope of something only to take it away if it doesn’t work out.
If this were something like the old bird issue or the flickering bushes, then I’d agree. However, the Mac Client has been sold for the expansion for several months now, but it does not actually work. One would think this was a case where excellent communication would make sense. Knowingly selling a broken product and then remaining silent on the issue hardly seems like a strategy for retaining goodwill from the customer base.
It is easy to understand that the company wants to manage expectations and not promise things that won’t happen. However, the company already promised things that didn’t happen; they sold (and continue to sell) a game client that is advertised as working, but does not. It doesn’t seem like the hole could be dug any deeper by communicating. I don’t think it is unreasonable for the customer base to want more than a note a few months ago saying that ‘we know the mac client isn’t the greatest’ and then silence (although, I think we understand there is probably also a corporate strategy going on which could explain the silence).
Anyway, thanks for the reply. I hope the company can change direction and see that this is a sort of special case where the policy of no communication is no longer the best choice. And good luck on getting things to work!

Wow, they really stuck to ignoring this thread. RIP Mac Beta Client. They should stop advertising that it works because it’s just not true at this point. This is the worst customer service and communication I’ve ever seen.
Since installing bootcamp to be able to play GW2, my husband and I actually moved on and do other things now that we have more options. So, I don’t think it was in Anet’s best interest for people to use bootcamp because we are no longer captives to the tiny amount of choice for OS X.
I just like to say “sticks”
But “I bopped him with a stick” sounds so much less epic than “I smited him with my staff!”
What about pointed sticks?
HoT failed for me for the following reasons:
1- The Mac client was an unmitigated disaster. It absolutely doesn’t work with any group content. They released the game and sold it to Mac users fully knowing it was completely broken. Anet barely acknowledged the issue and ignores a 500+ post thread about it. So, we installed Bootcamp and bought windows (which was much more than the game) just to play it. This experience has really eroded my goodwill for the game and the company.
2- Once we could play the game, we found it only had three maps plus one meta event map. We did those a bit, finished the story, tried the raid a little. Outside of trying to get a spot in a random raid group (which was its own toxic and unpleasant eperience), there was nothing much to do but grind events for masteries. Essentially, there was nothing to do but grind the same events on the same few maps over and over to get points for mastery lines we really didn’t care about.
There were some good features, though. Gliding was fun. The enhanced challenge of the creatures around the maps was nice. The new elite for necromancer was a lot of fun if I had something to do with it besides grind.

We got windows to be able to play gw2. Ironically, we rarely play GW2 anymore since getting windows. With the direct x os, we can play and spend money on other games instead and that’s what we’re doing. It’s funny since they sort of had mac users as a captive audience since there is so little support out there for mac on fun games, but forcing us into bootcamp if we want to play has had the unintended consequence of giving us more choice and other outlets for our gaming entertainment money.
And, I hate having to boot into windows to play games. What a terrible os! Would love it if this mac client was fixed. I guess that won’t happen any time soon, though. They really should change their support page to no longer list mac as a supported platform at this point since there is no communication and no timeline for any fixes.
Small guilds lost everything they had because HOT makes it nigh on impossible for them to re-earn what they already HAD!
Exactly.
Small guilds never mind working harder and taking longer – we always have had to – but this is a lifetime commitment. Like…to gather all the mats for full restoration 2, it would take me the entire forseeable future.
What could be nice is if they added some nice customisation features to the guild headquarters instance in Lion’s Arch for small guilds. The features could be weaker versions of some of the guild hall things that are more attainable for small groups.

Anet has the worst customer service I’ve ever seen. I really enjoyed the game, but the last couple of years and now this have really put a bitter taste to it. I can’t be alone in feeling that way, either.
That comments actually not that fair. Arenanet has really great customer support and they are always quick to try and help solve people’s problems. They have awful OS X/dev support though. Customer Support staff can’t be expected to somehow solve problems that all stem from Cider being awful, CS aren’t dev’s, they’re just people with a knowledge of how to work around common problems people face or who can fix account related issues. The issues with the OS X port aren’t things they can work around. The CS do their best :/
If you want to point fingers at anyone then point them at the devs and the higher ups who make decisions based on numbers and profits that lead to a lack of a better OS X client.
I think it was quite fair. Perhaps you’re specifically referring to tech support and the ticket system as the only outlet for customer service.
The developers have no input on how this issue is handled; why would I be upset with them? They are just doing their job. The silent treatment mac customers get is obviously a decision from high up the decision making tree. These people are the ones who shape the public face of the customer service and experience. They set the policy and the policy is for poor customer service and experience if you purchased for the mac.
Also, on the topic of cider being awful, that’s not really the customer’s issue directly. Internal industry issues are not really our concern. If they couldn’t keep providing a working product, they should have chosen to not sell it. I understand you’re trying to explain why they have a problem. I think we all understand it, but, again, not our problem. They need to either find a different solution or don’t sell something that doesn’t work.
My pure speculation on this is that they made a boardroom decision with accountancy spreadsheets in hand that it was more profit long and short term to sell a non-functional product and try to ride it out with various stalling methods and vague comments as a tactic than to risk losing the mac revenue stream by (temporarily?) discontinuing service.
Anyway, it’s terrible customer service in my opinion (and, I am sure they know it). Also, the mac client still crashes every 20 minutes. Any word about this beyond ‘we know it’s not great’ yet?

Mac client still completely broken. We were knowingly sold a non-functional product and they are still selling it as though it works. How about some formal statement about the mac beta and how you plan on making amends to all the people to whom you purposely sold a non-functional product?
