Needed time to craft a legendary now

Thanks again, nowitsawns calculation is roughly what I got to initially, excluding inflation. sostronk has a point that you can potentially make money faster in T/P as you can somewhat scale it better than grinding through Orr.
Btw i never had a run that gave me 10-15g, my friends always did. I used to get 3-4g over 5 hours while they’d get 12-14 a day for couple of weeks, so I dropped doing that. maybe my DR curse is off now and i should try it again. That’s another thread’s topic though.

RNG, Cursor, the "F" key

Even when cursor appears, it’s hard to see in the middle of the battle. Can we have options for cursor appearance maybe in combat?
One of my alts is grenadier and I lose the cursor at times, waving my mouse around for a good 2-3 seconds to find the bugger. That’s 2-3 seconds of daze I ate in the middle of the battle for no reason but my incompetence, but it can be avoided with a simple pointer skin.

Many thanks for the responses. I do feel things have gotten more difficult, especially with DR and the inflation. Having few people to help you I guess mitigates DR issue as you have more man-hours before DR and there will be less chance for a cursed/permaDR account, which I had for about 3 weeks in Jan.

Also, if you’re going to have bunch of people helping you, it seems it’s more efficient&fun to have 6-10 people play the game with a bigger emphasis on earning gold and them just donating the gold to you.

I guess I’ll leave the venture aside. It would have been worth a little more if the items were account bound, as I do like having alts. Game is a lot of fun without the legendary, and I can live with not being able to experience 100% of this massive game.

It also seems like even if I triple the 700 hours I put into the game so far, with the inflation and all, if I play it the way I like, which is all aspects of the game at random times, I wont get there.

Reporting "Kick player" abuse (fotm/dungeons)

honestly, ban kicking after 10 mins in the dungeon, have a voted “jail” option to jail/release malicious/bad players. Bad players will leave the party on jail, instead of sitting for 30 mins, unless you are maliciously jailing him. Malicious players can already hurt you in the current set up by setting up the instance and then making life miserable for you or leaving the party, but in a more fun way without sitting in a jail. If you can’t 4 man the dungeon, sorry you shouldn’t kick players anyways.
If you’re doing a speedrun and need 5 people, you will know to kick the guy out in the first 10 mins.

Assumptions
- You just bought the game so you don’t have money, and have a lvl 1 main
- T/P is as is, i.e. a lot more efficient than when it started
- There’s no rich ori node to take advantaged of or other exploits that are fixed so far
- There’s the DR that potentially has a chance to put a curse on your character
- Precursors are valued over 600g + 75g/month conservative assumption on inflation
- You do not care about anything else in the game but to craft your legendary
- You play 5 hours per day
- You don’t have the top way of earning money, if it’s over 20% faster than the second way, as it will be nerfed probably before you can craft your legendary.

And please try to be as fair as possible, maybe I do have a slight negative tone. I do not suggest legendaries should be easy to get, but I do feel whoever got them so far has endured less of a torture than whoever is looking to get by a considerable amount. I am not looking to craft one myself unless the fair looking time period turns out to be reasonable here, for my own playing style and hours.

What's the game like for a total MMO Noob?

Here’s a tip, the game is a lot more fun with others. Take the leap of faith and join a guild if you don’t have a close friend playing. You’ll see you’ll get a lot more out of the game. If the guild is too hardcore for you, switch to another one.
Another tip, be upfront when you start doing dungeons that you may not be the most experienced player out there. More people will help you out, you’ll learn a lot more. If a person or a group doesn’t like it, leave the group.
My girlfriend is a newbie not only to MMOs but to computer games. She’s hooked up on this game to the point she put 300 hours into it. It’s a great game.

Maybe it’s not going to be too helpful but I tried to switch toons in the middle of the dungeon run (AC Exp 2), got a crash into desktop. I then relaunched the game, I was still in the party. I couln’t however enter the dungeon, the game kept on giving some error along the lines of “cannot reach login server”. I think code started with 9: as opposed to the 7: one. Did this happen to anyone else?
Subsequently, another guy got a crash without leaving dungeon.
We had to kill the dungeon run.
I then tried to look at the new merchant in LA, I pressed F to see his merchandise, another crash.

I think I am out of the curse for the last few days. After weeks of literally horrible drop rates in mats/rares, I’m getting some acceptable drops. I am not posting here to suggest that there’s no issue, I really think there is. For whatever reason, the curse is not there for me for the last few days. I am seriously not looking forward to getting it back, and putting things into perspective, this is not a perceived problem. I had it for weeks, and now I am showing my rares where others are unable to get them.
I got a 3g+ worth exotic yesterday, I was about to cry in joy. It used to take me 8-10 hours to get that value a week or so ago.
Best luck again to you all until Anet comes up with a less buggy way of fixing things.

Server: Henge of Denravi, and I don’t think I got anything of note from any dragon. I must’ve killed them over dozen times. I just don’t do them anymore.

A wrong click can instantly quit the game, which destroyed a fractal run of a friend last night. Will you put in a simple ‘are you sure?’ prompt? I suspect most players won’t be worried about extra second they lose on quitting, but the people who press it by mistake might appreciate it.

So, went into fractals today to see if that was any better … I only made about 40 silver per level … so after doing lvl8 and 9, I was only about 80s ahead

ah, was worth a try. i think my curse has been lifted for a few days now, not sure how and why. I got 4 rares in an hour today in Orr. probably got 6-7 all day. fingers crossed. wish you all the same.

This is my second mmo and the first one was wow, with tons of community issues. I just hated the players there. I liked this game a lot for that reason, I was even going to suggest people to support developers with real $ by buying stuff off T/P, sort of like a donation. Now, I feel the opposite. People want to provide data, Anet asked for it in extremely unclear ways, but it’s not working as there’s no communication. It’s very easy to see why frustrations build up, it’s like getting stuck in an airplane on the runway for 12 hours with no explanation. Maybe it’s less costly to lose us than try to fix the problem and we’re the lost cause.

FWIW, I did have major issues in dungeons as well, I would do 10 runs and would gather maybe 1 gold of total loot. I was pointing out what someone else said awhile back in this forum, that there’s a chance fractals may undo the DR bug or whatever that is. I am not suggesting this is the solution and we should close this forum. I hate the DR as much as the next guy and if the solution to botting comes at even the massive frustration of just 5% of the population, that should not be the solution. I want to have the confidence that if I farm in Orr, I will be treated equally with everyone else. Current system does punish certain players and we dont even know why we’re that subset at the moment. Easy fix is to remove the DR, do something else, rewrite it, … I don’t know.
I was merely suggesting that while anet is ignoring our plea that there’s something massively wrong in low lvl and high lvl drops, fractals might be the key to the problem of 5% of the 5%. I am not sure if it was my problem but hey I had no drops from dungeons/wvwvw/DEs for a long time and last two fractal runs were pretty good so sharing that.

Maybe because of yesterday’s patch, maybe because I did fractals couple of days ago or maybe because I gave a two day’s break, I actually got 4-5g worth of loot from fractals lvl 3 in an hour or so. One was an exotic worth 3.5g which I hadn’t seen in weeks. And I did this with my cursed character. I know some of you frequent fractals but if you havent recently, maybe give it a shot. Maybe it’ll unlock your DR as well.
Crossing fingers that I no longer have the curse. I will run few dungeons before returning to farming to see whether that’s the issue.

Most of the people here can clear dungeons just fine on masterwork gear let alone exotic, so this is not about the times you run through the dungeon in say 35 minutes running full MF gear.
1) If you’re skillful, you can finish the same dungeon probably in 30 mins with berserker gear, saving time for everyone else as well
2) All other stats are shared among the team in one way or the other except MF (though I’ve heard people say otherwise)
3) There will be one instance where you will not be yourself and die early because you didnt have enough dps/vit whatever.

The discussion of whether MF hurts the team or not has a clear answer. It does, unless loot is shared. However people play around with suboptimal test builds e.t.c so the aim is not to optimize to everyone’s benefit, it’s to enjoy the game. Some choices will be a bit more selfish as long as people realize that they are. MF is one of them.

Does MF add to the enjoyment of the game? Does it make your dungeon run more fun or shorter so you can do more of it? Or are you trying to fix some drop rate table at the cost of more quality time in the game, which again is broken for various people with or without MF?

Without MF, I really believe the game will be better. With MF, I just dont think we can discriminate against the wearers of these sets as it’s just a game and we all have potentially selfish choices, and let’s be honest, I rather have a team oriented guy with MF than a selfish DPS warrior in a pug who keeps on spamming wtf because people wont res him the 4th time around in the middle of red circles.

I have few lvl80s and I use regular gear/trinkets and MF runes on one of them and now I am thinking about just using regular ones. Leaving the permanent DR curse that quite a few of us are having aside, will I be happier without a MF in the game? yes because I can try different runes without feeling I am left behind some other guys who’re running the inflation up the ceiling.

I don’t get the “I am so skillful, I can do equally good with MF gear and better than the next guy” argument. Should Anet remove all stats since you really dont care about +vit or +tough or +pow and it’s all about skill? Or do you think you should have the choice to nerf yourself for better loot cause the next less skillful guy is freeriding on your skills (due to no choice of his own).

The point of the topic is will the overall community be happier without MF? From what I can tell, people who are ok with MF gear aren’t claiming it makes the gaming experience a lot better, and the ones who aren’t OK are saying it’s bad. Then there are all the bugs/DR that make the experience a lot worse. So shouldn’t the conclusion be that MF should be removed? I side with the people that if a whole dungeon team is on MF gear, that dungeon will be more difficult, so if one is doing it, it’s freeriding on choice. It’s not the end of the world, the least skillful player by definition is always freeriding, but at least it’s not by choice.

If you want to get rewarded for taking on challenges and being more skillful than others, Anet should create different difficulty tiers in dungeons. Fractals sort of achieve that. I am sorry but running DEs to farm stuff with 100 others in ORR is hardly challenging so you shouldn’t be rewarded extra for MF gear, or just being one of the lucky ones that keep on getting rares/lodestones when the guy next to you is getting nothing with same gear due to complexity of the system that Anet can’t seem to decipher themselves for 2-3 months despite numerous complaints.

So someone mentioned getting into fractals might help with the curse problem. After seeing my gf take loot that’s worth 5-6x mine for the 30th day, I decided to give it a shot with my most cursed character. We both ran all 4 subsections of fractal lvl 2 with a pug in overflow, and guess what, I got two rares and an exot amulet, she got three rares and some nice mats. The amulet was a chest find and couldn’t be sold for some reason so I salvaged it into 0 ecto. It still was nice to see though. It’s not like I haven’t done fractal runs before but somehow this one gave me more rares than I would see in a week, 5+ hours/day play.
At the end of yesterday, her loot was worth about 12g, without a single homerun item, mine was 4-5g, thanks to the fractal run. I got 2-3x more bones and other useless stuff than her, but still, I felt less frustrated.
PS: as a reminder for those who haven’t seen my other posts, I do everything from JP to wvwvw to regular dungeons, just not spvp, and change farming areas once in a while. and at least once a day.

I have been running fractals constantly since they’ve come out and noticed a severely reduced drop rate recently, and drastic differences in the drops in the first place. I’ve run a level 20 and gotten 6 rares 2 exotics 3 high level rare crafting materials and numerous greens where as the run I did yesterday netted me 1 blue 2 greens and the relics from each of the chests, except the jade maw where it also gave me a pile of vile essence in addition to the 1 blue and 2 greens.

I have also spent some time in the cursed shore trying to farm Charged Lodestones from the level 80 sparks on my character, while my girlfriend, who is right next to me, finds 10 times as many as I do. Now this is not an exaggeration. She has literally found 10 times as many as I have, 20 to 2. This was over several days but about 2 hours during each session, where she would find 3-4 and I would find 0-1. Wearing magic find did not seem to increase or diminish either of our drop rates either, as I would always wear full magic find and still only find 0-1 where she would find 3-4 regardless of what gear she was in.

This seems to be life as normal in GW2 these days. Some people tend to be extremely lucky while others, in the same group even, can get decent drops at all. It should be stressed that “6 rares 2 exotics, 3 high level rare crafting mats” on a single run ANYWHERE would be considered EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY lucky. There are people here with hundreds of hours in, perhaps more, who have never had an exotic drop. Not counting the Karka chest, I think in nearly 400 hours of regular play I’ve only had 2, maybe 3, exotics drop and these days it generally would take me several weeks of casual play to get 6 rares. I don’t explicitly farm, but have NEVER had a lodestone of any kind drop…ever. I have full area completion on Orr and have spent extensive amounts of time there before giving up on the area for poor drop rates.

These days I work exclusively on world completion and jumping puzzles. I tend not to do bosses or any open world champions, again due to poor drops. The reward vs time simply is not there. The Melandru event in Orr is a good example…an irritating and time consuming event to begin with and the last time I did it…whites and blues…really? For an hour and 40 minutes? Lyssa is a better event, but a worse time sucker, requires a very large number of people to actually coordinate and be organized AND you always have those who are there farming sparks wanting the event to fail. Good event that has so many things going against it. Again, never seems to be anyone doing it and I’m guessing it’s simply due to the lack of any reward for the effort. Seems the only rares I EVER get out of boss chests these days are useless crests.

I did Thaumanova Secret Boss jumping puzzle on the weekend, which also requires you kill the fire elemental…so two bosses, two chests…blues and greens. (Remember chests are scaled to drop appropriate to your level, so rares and exotics are possible) There were only two of us for the secret boss champion, so it took a while. I was only after the jumping puzzle achievement so achieved my goal, but probably didn’t make enough coin to cover the repair costs of the elemental fight combined with the waypoint travel cost. Sad!! FotM doesn’t really interest me and I rarely have enough of a group to run dungeons, unless I random group with people I don’t know, which I have done the majority of the times I’ve run dungeons, but it presents a whole host of different issues.

I have 600 hr+ under my 3 lvl 80 toons, my gf has only 1 and probably has 200 hours tops. Last week, I had to stop playing the toon that I solely played with her, same events same zones same time, as I get one rare in maybe 30-40 hours of play time while she would get 10+, and no exotic, while she gets exotics once in a long while. I am pretty sure in 2 weeks if not less, she’s going to have more money than me as her gains have been consistently 2x+ more than mine, sometimes 5x+, through mats and other drops, for about 3 weeks now.
Here’s an improvement though, I did switch to one of my other lvl 80s about a week ago, and now I am getting 2 rares maybe every 15 hours so yay, I am frustrated slightly less. I just cant play my engineer with confidence that it’s not bugged anymore though.

I agree with the “cursed” statement. I know people with similar MF set up and one of them is “super lucky” compared to my “cursed” character, like an uncommon exotic drop every 3-4 days and few rares per day, with same # of hours and similar MF stop and event/dungeon/wvwvw combos. I almost wanted to call Anet to take a look at my character and reveal if it has a permanent DR on it.
Regardless, I am becoming one of those that’s getting bored with the game. Yeah the end goal is not getting more gold than the day before, but I am done with all the jumping puzzles dungeons e.t.c. so without the carrot of occasional excitement from an exotic or rare, or hope for a legendary, and with the frustration that guys next to me are getting rares and exots over and over again, it’s tough to keep on going back to same events.

I really believe my DR or something else got stuck. I’ve been playing on average 6 hours per day and in the last 3-4 weeks or so, I might have gotten 2-4 rares. I seriously have more than few days in a row that I don’t get a rare. I am not even mentioning exotics anymore really. I’ve done dungeons, pve, wvwvw, winterdays events, jumping puzzles easy-difficult. That should help with DR but it doesn’t. I am debating whether it’s because I have too much MF but I’ve heard other players with proper drop rates.

In Yak’s bend AC Story mode, after the party kicking out a person who left his computer but didn’t leave the party, I got out of the dungeon and found a new 5th member. After that, we couldn’t get back into the same instance and whoever got out lost the instance as well. Please fix it as playing for a dungeon over an hour just to find a bug and end up getting almost no xp for it is really a turn off.
