Devs current stance on GW2 consoles?

The simple reason this is never going to happen is down to costs. Anet rarely properly beta test their patches, maybe 30% beta tested before release and leave the rest of the bugs to be reported by the players.

To bring the game to consoles they would have to FULLY beta test EVERY patch for weeks before releasing. This would mean hiring more staff and paying more overtime, something anet are not prepared to do.

Why is that so important or more important to do with consoles?

Because again cost, Sony etc charge the games for every new update they release for the games. Sony and Microsoft says the charge in so they can pre-check the patch is not a virus or not going to create conflicts with the devices etc. The charge depends on the size of the game and amount of players. But I read it would be about 5k. Doesnt sound alot at first for a game making milllions, however anet for PC alone do about two to three patches per month. And maybe another 1-2 some months which they never seem to release patch notes for (I guess they’re too small).

But even if we go for the recorded amount they have been doing (One to Two) They’re looking at an extra 10k per month to pay in fees PER different console. So an extra 20k per month to have the game on PS4 and xbox.

So thats 240k per year in costs alone and thats minimum (more patches = more costs).

Then they have to do more work on the games to make them available on those consoles. And most players will not be happy to have to rebuy the game if they already own an account, so game sales wont increase much at first.

If Sony and Microsoft didnt charge the devs to do patches/updates then maybe anet might be intested but lets face it those charges are not going anywhere. And this is why we will never see gw2 on consoles.

The idea for SAB was to have a cool mini game, BUT the main focus was to bait people back to the game, create new gold sink (good Skins). Then yank the plug on it, removing the available skins. Thus the demand remains for the skins but the number of skins available drops, then add the account bound skins to the game = 30g SAB skin goes to 300g+. If they left SAB up all the time the prices would drop fast and thats not something they want, goldsink added so they’re happy. Prob get SAB event for a week or two per year, so dont expect more than that.

Disk space - New Expansion?

yeah prob looking at a few GBs extra for it. A good idea if running low on disk space is to clear out cache/history files that are unused. A good prog is Ccleaner its free and will remove alot of unneeded OS history files, so if you dont use a cleaner go get a copy of it. I did a clean out for my sister not too long ago (shes never used a cleaner before) ccleaner saved her 6gb space on her HDD after the unneeded files were deleted.

Make Karma sellable/buyable

You can convert karma into gold indirectly. Lost Orrian Jewelboxes contain a lot of junk items you can sell, and will also frequently contain lodestones.

That method is bad and will cost you 5x more karma and result in ALOT less gold. Boxes cost too much and lodestones are rare, and even if you do get some they’re no where near the value they used to be. This wasnt the best method even when most were at 2g-3g each range now most are 80s or less. With linen convert the items cost less karma and you have a 90% chance to get linen and about 10% chance to get 1-3 cotton back. Linen one cant be beaten imo even with the current timesink of forge.

Its long over due and time to make Karma sellable like Gems are. Its already a timesink to get the karma but a VERY slow process (using forge and the linen scraps way) to convert it to gold. And again grinding for gold is a goldsink by itself so people with gold should be allowed to buy karma.

OR

Make the forge options stack like they do with crafting, so if you wish to forge four of the same items and have more items in invent the forge should give an option to forge them all automatically. This would speed up forging the karma items that will then be salvaged for linen up more. Again getting the karma then buying the items is ALREADY a hugh timesink. we dont need another timesink by having to click each karma item to put in the forge over and over like we currently are forced to do.

Atm I have about 10mill karma which would take weeks to convert to linen scraps and then sell on tp. Currently its a timesink over a timesink over a timesink, I don’t mind grinding for the karma but I do mind then grinding to convert it.

Thief broken

Okay so since the line of sight patches a number of thief skills are now broken.

Steal – Now fail’s to work even if target is in range (If the ground/map between target is not completely flat)

Shadowstep – Also now fails if the ground between caster and target is not completely flat OR it is on a bridge.

Sneak Attack – Now fails (wont cast at all) if something is in between the caster and target eg enginners turrets (wont even hit the turrets).

And a sidenote this has also broken alot of ac placements in wvw. Even though the target is in range etc I have had ‘no line of sight’ shown still.

So yet again a patch thats broken more than its fixed…

Latency/Lag for EU Players? [merged]

Does seem that the tests for this new patch and HoT on the live servers is creating this unplaying lag and random dc in the last 3-4 days. Can anet not test for bugs on different servers designed for that, testing. Instead of trying to save money and use the same servers which is CLEARLY created unplayable gaming for 1000s of people. After all this time anet still havent learn’t to keep players, the game must be PLAYABLE;

Shadow Refuge bug

I thought something was strange a while ago and put it down to maybe stealth traps etc. This time however no traps yet when I used refuge i was knocked out of it and in the second my stealth duration went from 10s to 3s of stealth.

Clearly there is a bug when you are KB out of Refuge for some reason, please fix.

That image is abit misleading tho dude. There was a EoTM loading bug all last night, where whole maps were getting kicked, client crashes and then eotm loading screen sticking followed by another dc etc. Our map last night had only 7 FR 10 BL and for over an hour only 15 OG on the whole map. But overall I’d agree the current system of pooling all last weeks winning servers into green and OG is completely unbalanced. Ofcourse they will have more active wvw players and guilds if you do that.

Personally I suspect they WANT it unbalanced for three reasons.

1. Its being used to incurage people to win their wvw match to have a chance of being OG in the next match.

2. To tempt people into buying xfer to higher tier servers.

3. To reducing the chances of people simply ktrain 24/7. Make it unbalanced and ofcourse there will be more bagfarming than ktraining = reduced loot for players = less gold = higher chance people buy gems instead of farming the gold = more profits for anet.

They could quite easy make the EoTM match up colors random if they wanted or more balanced and we’ve seen them doing in the passed in wvw systems. And I’ve heard anet are “working on a balance to eotm”. As said highly unlikely for the reasons given that anet will want to make it more balanced in eotm anytime soon, as annoying as that is we have to deal with it as best we can.

Guild Halls

I would very much like to know if we’ll be able to customize and decorate our guildhalls, much like housing in Wildstar, or is everyone gonna be stuck with same generic looking hall?

It would totally rock if it was the first case and each guild could make it’s own, original themed hall.

Doubtful they will change the way they work. In gw1 you get to pick between 4-5 diff guildhall skins (at a price), So they are highly likely to do the same in GW2. My guess they will be like EoTM areas. Desert skin, Jungle theme skin, Ice and Fire related themes also. And you’ll be likely to be able to change the skin of your guild hall for gold coin and guild influence.

In future they again are highly likely to offer diff guildhall themes on top of the ones they will offer. But they will likely be on offer in gemstore only otherwise you stick to the reg themes/skins.

Cheating Dev

Have to agree that having a anet tag on the map WILL change the way people play. If they’re not playing the game and only observing as the do then I would agree they need to stay perma stealthed while doing this. Or even better have a Observor mode when they need to check things out. Where they can watch all that is going on and be able to see chat from all sides, without taking up a slot on the map and without influencing how some play. If they are there to try and find poss exploiters do they not think having a big red anet logo might mean the poss exploiters will play fair while the tag is there, and once its gone from the map play the way they were before.

The BIGGEST issue is anet are yet to add some sort of program scanner to detect certain programs which are being using in GW2 daily (which we all know have been around since beta). The current tactic of Observing is clearly not working and needs to be addressed. The fact they removed Orbs from wvw instead of working to block the programs that some are using says it all really.

Downed state and camera

Can we have an option when downed to NOT have the camera zoom up close to toons?

Far too often the downed camera angle prevents a downed person from using any downed skills. For example mesmers cant see the target because the camera angle only shows themselves on the screen, and without a target we cant stealth away/attack or anything.

Also can we finally have a balance of downed skills when it comes to eles, far far too often have eles basically exploited the fact they can mistform back into towers/keeps if downed.

If we’re going to continue having a downed state then there needs to be better balance between them. And a set zoom level for when someones downed (in options) and a block to mistform into ports by downed eles would be a great start.
