Problems with Engineers and Legendaries

Anyone else notice how lately it seems that Arena Net is trying to cash in on the engineer’s lack of visual identity? I mean the first two truly theme appropriate armor sets we get are locked in the gem store, and one of the only two weapon sets is buried deep in the depths of RNG-hell. Kind of upsetting, and almost enough to make me not buy the new magi-tech armor….its just….so…..cool….

I was lucky to get a ticket buying only 7 BL keys. I was in shock. I got the pistol right away as I’m going for Flameseeker. IMO it’s the best looking pistol in the game, and beats out Quip by a long shot… Wouldn’t have sold or traded it for the world.

I went about trying to get this done today. My guildies quickly discouraged, almost laughed at me for thinking I can do it as an engineer. I know some others have done it, but I wanted the challenge.

We are the MacGyvers of Guild Wars 2. We take a challenge, and we make it work with what we have.

Going to be honest here, I absolutely hate this game. I’m sick of worthless mini games with tie in achievements being released every update. They are meaningless to the overall plot of Guild Wars 2. I want more Aetherblade Retreats! I want compelling story lines! I don’t want achievements that I can’t even finish due to constantly being screwed over by the server and game itself!

So I figured I’d try soloing Aetherblade retreat on my thief. I’ve made it all the way to Mai Trin and Horrik, but because the damage from Mai Trin’s shadow shot can’t be dodged, I keep dying. As a thief, the only projectile blocker I have is smoke screen, but I have 17 seconds in between cd’s. I can dodge the shadow shot just fine, but I still get the damage anyway- pretty lame if you ask me. What’s the point of using dodge on this fight if you still get punished anyway? Has anyone been able to do this? Maybe a guardian?

I did it last night on an Engineer.

Human male is voiced by Nolan North, who also does the main character in Uncharted, as well as the Jedi Consular male voice in SWTOR (it was awkward having my 2 characters sound the same). Side note: North Nolan Hatchery is named after him.

Jennifer Hale is the voice of Queen Jennah as well as the Sylvari Female. She has done countless works of voice acting it’s hard to keep track. She did the voice of Bastilla Shan, Satele Shan as well as the female trooper voice in SWTOR. She also is Fem Shep for mass effect.

Catherine Taber is the voice actor for Countess Anise. She is very prominent in Star Wars, more notable her roles in Clone Wars animated series as well as Mission in Knights of the Old Republic.

Troy Baker who does Logan has been in countless things it’s hard to say, much like Jennifer Hale and Steve Blum.

As people already mentioned Felcia Day is Zojja, as well as Steve Blum is Rytlock.

But yeah, honestly, don’t listen to anyone except 20-25-0-10-15 folks. Going otherwise in the first line can be marginally more useful for CoF farming, but why bother.

-I’m an engineer because I was interested in getting a flamethrower and a tool kit.
-Then I’ve been stuck with it because it’s somewhat efficient more or less everywhere. -And I still continue with it just to not look like those mindless greatsword-spinning simpletons, to hell with their stuck-up comments on which we’re useless, if they don’t want to know everything they’re missing it’s not my kitten problem.
-I get the chance to own a HUGE variety of different builds and combinations.
-It also gives me the ability to calm those snotty wannabe pr0 assassin Thieves 1v15 rather radically in PvP.
-Oh, although now it’s not much, I played Engi before it was cool.

Haha awesome! I made a warrior, but I run around with a Rifle because it feels close to home. I also vow to never Greatsword and use Dual Axes

I’ve played one since beta. I fell in love with everything it had to offer. I felt so flexible, I felt so awesome, I felt like I had the world in my hands.

Then I discovered the facts. We are one of, if not, the least played profession in the game. We are often criticized for not being on par with other classes as far as design and functionality goes. But I don’t care.

If anything, I feel comforted by the fact that I’m a proud underdog. I would have it no other way.

What’s your story!? Why are you sticking with your Engineer!

Turret Recommendations

This is very cleary from a PVE opinion. Turrets counter play in spvp is that ae hits them, i had another suggestion that probably wont be popular but figure i’ll throw it out.

To start turrets have increased stats and attack rate and scale appropriately off all stats (like gaurdian pets do).

Now, heres the catch. They are on duration. You drop them, they will not stay forever, infact everytime they attack they lose health. HOWEVER you can keep them out longer (or indefinitly) through using the tool kit to heal them.

Also since they eventually blow up anyway, there is no reason to turn the toolbelt skill into detonating your turret, this could allow the current toolbelt skills that go with each turret to always be accessible whether the turret is alive or dead.

Yea, this is for sure from a PvE perspective. I love using turrets in PVP as I find some players ignore them…

In my guild we can barely do guild missions, DURING ORGANISED TIMES, because all our members are too busy killing dragons… I honestly find that rewards aren’t worth all this madness..

I think I like overcharges the way they are. They are very situational and you choose when to use them. I like that idea.

That said though, it would be nice if the turrets survive enough to give you a lot of opportunities to choose to burst your enemies, defend yourself, heal you allies, etc… They do need a survivability buff.

We should use this thread to discuss the issues of Turrets for Engineers and maybe get the dev’s some attention to these issues so we can get some answers.

I have played an Engineer since the first ever beta event. I fell in love the day I logged on the Guild Wars 2 site to find that Charr Engineer all pretty and gold on the page. From that point on I knew that Engineers would be my thing.

I love different play styles in the game and how easy it is to switch out skills and builds. But by far my favorite play style is turrets and it’s the only build I like to run. (I love dual pistol conditioner, but I strongly hate lobbing grenades. And I don’t think you need either of these builds to be truly “viable”. Viability comes down to the player). That said I think there are a couple issues with Turrets, and scouring through the forums, we all know that Turrets feel like the elephants of our class.

Some recommendations are:

1. Turret scaling for power: I realize that they scale with condition damage, but considering we have a flame turret, overcharged rocket, and overcharged riffle turret that applies conditions, that’s 3 conditions that are included: Blind, Bleed and Burn. That’s a great addition to turrets, but judging from what I see, I think it would be beneficial that they benefit from power.

2. Turret aggro: Enemy aggro for turrets should be tuned down a lot. There’s nothing more frustrating then having an enemy (cough boss cough) be able to one shot your turret, purposely. If there are other players attacking the enemy, the boss shouldn’t charge to a poor little turret.

3. Turret cool down: I think if turrets are destroyed or picked up early, their cool down should be reduced by a percentage based on how long the turret was active for. There will still be a cool down, but it will be more beneficial and flexible.

4. Turrets and AoE: I think it should be a baseline effect that at least in PvE, turrets take 90% less damage from enemy AoE abilities. There’s nothing more frustrating then having all your turrets be destroyed instantly.

5. Turrets and the relationship with the Toolkit: I absolutely love the idea of the Toolkit. I’m actively watching my Turrets and guarding them from enemies that do attack them, all while healing them with my wrench. However I find it’s an issue with the fact that the Toolkit uses up a utility slot that can be replaced with another turret. If you are an engineer maximizing a turret build, there’s a 90% change you have that Toolkit. I think that the Engineers should have access to a new weapon: the 1h Mace. With a 1H mace, the wrench functionality can be re rolled into a Mace + Shield combo. This is not a huge issue for some people, but I know some find the Toolkit as a negative utility slot that can be replaced with a turret. I wouldn’t know the best way to go about it but I’m sure that people can come up with some sort of solution. The truth is though I love the Toolkit and would be sad to see it go at the same time.

The reality is these are some QoL changes, and also some balance changes. I think this is really important and should be addressed for players who love the turret play style and optimize their builds for that role. Part of the reasons I mentioned above are reasons why there are so many players overlooking the beauty of turrets.

So what do you guys think. Is there anything else that you can think of? Try to leave everything constructive, with reasons based on your experience and plausible solutions to make this easier for the devs, no QQ.

DPS Meters

With a game like this, there’s no place for DPS meters because theres no place for a “rotation”. You should always be playing situationally, and because of the spontaneity of combat (downs, reviving other players, constant movement/dodging, healing/buffing your allies (assume you are looking out for them right?)) it wouldn’t fit in this type of game. Besides the worst thing that will happen from this is people not paying attention to what they are doing and paying attention to their meter.

I want to bump this because I would absolutely love to see this back. It was the best parts about logging into Guild Wars 2. I would gladly skip the authentication on the crappy launcher and authenticate in the log in screen. It makes it feel more complete. I know every time I log in I just wish I can have that feeling again.
