The performance of this half assed Mac version we’ve been given is terrible really and it wont improve. I don’t know what it’s going to take for the development community to understand that the Mac platform is the only PC platform that is continuing to grow.
At least us MMO Mac gamers can look forward to Elder Scrolls online which has been confirmed to be getting a native Mac client on day one alongside the Windows client.
Maybe when we all split for that game ArenaNet will understand just how important a REAL Mac client is for their bottom line?
It’s just disappointing. I mean it’s great that they have an option for people that won’t dual boot but still, it’s 2012 and Windows 8 is supposedly going to be kitten for gaming.
It’s about time these developers realize they need to release their games multi platform, i.e. Windows, Mac and Linux.
I’m not an expert on game dev but I would think that once you create a Mac client it would be fairly easy to then port it to Linux and vice versa being they are both Unix.
This question is for anyone familiar with Cider ports. Can we expect any significant gains in performance by the time this client exits beta or is this close to what the final build will be like, ie no high textures, i.e. significantly lower performance vs Windows, i.e. framerate drops when turning camera etc?

The people claiming they are getting “better performance” in OSX than in Windows are mistaken. They might be getting better performance at lower settings because the Mac client defaults to much lower settings (high textures aren’t even possible under OSX atm).
I am getting lower performance even on lower settings under OSX and I am running a ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1024 MB ram. For me to get comparable frame rates to what I was getting in Windows under Bootcamp I have to disable reflections and put all other settings on medium/low except for animations.
It really is impossible for a Cider port to out perform a native Windows environment.

Anyone running on this configuration? Still downloading the client and curious what kind of results I can expect.
I was already in love with the game but this solidifies you as my favorite development team now. Thank you SOOOOO much for bringing your beautiful game to the most beautiful OS.
Downloading the client now so I can’t yet comment on performance but thank you sooo much! You make S.J. smile in heaven!
Much love from the Mac faithful!
Please ArenaNet I beg you to pay attention to Blizzards mistakes. Running instances in WoW was enjoyable until they added a auto dungeon finder system. Ever since then running instances has felt so robotic. People never socialize or chat in instance groups in WoW anymore because of it. People constantly drop in and out of parties because all they have to do is queue for another one.
Please don’t make the same mistakes Blizzard did which was listen to the people that want everything to be as easy as humanly possible. You’ve got the right idea for sticking with a more old school approach to building parties for dungeons etc don’t listen to the whiners on here that expect another WoW automated drool inducing LFG system.
Incoming audible whisper notifications aren’t working for many people, myself included.
I first thought there wasn’t any in the game but some people on my friends list say they get them but they are very quiet. This needs to be fixed asap.
I BEG you ArenaNet do not ruin the social aspect of this game by putting some kind of automatic LFG tool in the game like WoW did. The dungeon finder in WoW made instances feel totally robotic and removed any social aspect required to form groups and parties for dungeons.
An LFG chat channel would be ok but please I’m begging you to not turn on automated easy mode and ruin the old school vibe dungeon/ party building has currently. Instances in WoW started to feel like you were just running them with some NPC’s because the dungeon finder was so automated.
I am begging for a native Mac client. ArenaNet really needs to make one. Blizzard always releases Mac clients and even Bethesda is going to be releasing Elder Scrolls online for both Mac and Windows.
Yes there are other workarounds, Bootcamp which sucks because who wants to run Windows on a Mac? Running Windows on a Mac just to play a game defeats the purpose of getting a Mac. The other option is Wine which runs horribly and really cuts down your framerates.
There’s no excuse not to release native Mac clients anymore. There are more and more Mac users all the time and that will only continue to grow as iOS becomes more prevalent in peoples daily lives.
Please ArenaNet just give us an answer as to whether you are working on a native Mac client or not.
Mounts are pointless when you have waypoints.
I think something’s about to go down!!!
I was under the impression that there were no audible whisper notifications but a friend told me he gets them. I’ve tried changing all of the audio settings and still I hear nothing when receiving a whisper.
Anyone else having an issue not getting any audible notification for incoming whispers? I thought the game didn’t have them until a friend told me that he gets an audible alert. I tried messing with my audio settings and still nothing.

Hi,
I’m running Guild Wars 2 on a mid 2011 iMac (21.5 inch model) through bootcamp, with a Radeon HD 6750 graphics card. I can run almost all settings on high, but shadows seem to be non existent even when turned on!
When I tried to update the driver (to AMD Catalyst), an error is shown:
“AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer. Your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter.”Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
I did a Google search and ran across this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3787464?start=0&tstart=0
Just do a Google search for Radeon HD 6750 iMac Win 7 driver. It’s not an issue with Apple or your iMac the issue is a AMD issue and has nothing to do with the fact you are running an iMac.
I’m sure as you know anytime you have a Mac people will attack you as you’ve seen in this thread. You probably wont find much help here when you mention you have a Mac. You’ll likely just get attacked and trolled.

Maybe you should switch to the Windows master race.
No seriously, GW2 tech support can’t be given to Mac users because the game doesn’t officially support it. Running it through bootcamp != mac support.
The information you’re providing him is false. A Mac running Windows software is supported by ArenaNet. It doesn’t matter what hardware you are running Windows on, as long as the OS is Windows it is supported.
I run this game perfectly fine on a 27 inch iMac under bootcamp.
ArenaNet, PLEASE make a native Mac client for us Mac users. Your game is absolutely amazing and it’s beauty in landscapes and sound design is awe inspiring.
One of the reasons why WoW is so prevalent in the MMO community and has so many subscribers is that it has been available on both Windows and Mac since day one. A majority of Mac users won’t install Windows in bootcamp and boot into Windows every day just to play a game.
Please I beg you to make a native Mac client for the ever growing population of Mac users. I will buy several copies and I’m sure that there are a lot of Mac users that are currently stuck playing WoW that would buy this game in a heart beat if it were available for the Mac platform.
One other quick thing to add. There have been recent studies that have concluded that Mac users have more expendable incomes than their Windows counterparts therefore we are more likely to drop more cash in the Black Lion Trading Marketplace. Since that is your main source of revenue from the game for the foreseeable future I think financially it makes a lot of sense to invest the resources to port the game to Open GL.
Thanks for your time and thanks for crafting such an amazingly gorgeous game that has renewed my faith in modern gaming.
