Well, it depends on day time, it is balanced when both sides have queue, but doesn’t happen at any hour.
While reading another thread I thought it would be interesting if the low population side with the Outmanned Buff would also get a patrol of NPC guards (like 1 champion, 3 veterans and 8 normal, or similar) running through all of the towers and keeps of their own borderland, as a sort of additional emergency defense.
The enemy should then build a strategy to cope with them or spy over them, to know where they are and attack the other side. May add some interesting challenge.
There is an interesting idea out there, a zerg of npc guards moving through all the owned towers/keeps, so enemy has to pay attention to them and to their position. This would add some interesting strategy.
And maybe this should exist only for the low population side when the population gap is over a certain threshold.
Sending a guild recruiting message once in a day in a foreign language is fine, nobody should ever complain about that, if someone does he probably has some personal frustrations (you should at least allow the rights to guild leaders to recruit politely, as you would do).
As well as asking once for help and continuing the discussion in whisper if you don’t have a guild should be allowed, what should someone do if he doesn’t have a guild and doesn’t know english very well?
What is not fine is discussing in a foreign language, spamming the chat with 3 or 4 messages, than it’s fine to ask for english and complain. We all know some english or we’d not play the game, since it’s not translated in all european locales.
Fwiw, I’m not english mother tongue.
You may just disable fxaa in the game and enable any other AA method you like in your graphic drivers control panel.
“Not true, for the most part in daoc player skill will trump realm rank, There are tons of bad rr12s out there Its harder but thats what happens in mmos no? Its supposed to be some sort of a progression or else its just an action game with a static character.”
Still the fact newcomers have difficulties until they reached at least 4L1 stays. I played DAOC for a long time as well, and that problem existed, no way to deny that.
Sure you can make the first levels really easy, but this is just going to create unbalancing issues.
“I don’t agree on the too hard to kill people, in DAOC when you got a PA from a stealth enemy inside your keep (and this was already bad enough) you basically knew there was no escape in most cases. ”
“The only case this would be true is if your purge was down and you werent paying attention.”
Sure you basically had 0.5s to react and the only thing you could do was to hope there was a door at hand to escape. Really funny and skillful… Basically 95% of the players were just dying. Maybe they were bad, but this just creates elitism and frustration.
“Not commenting on the sickness, the most boring and annoying thing in DAOC, not sure why anyone would like to see it again.”
“Because it makes the game not an insta spawn at the graveyard and fight again in 3 secs game, which sucks.”
Indeed currently in GW2 you have to walk the entire map, no spawn points. In DAOC I was able most of the times to transfer to the keep under attack and defend it, that was much mosre insta spawn.
I’m in favor of things that give achievements, but I think they should avoid 2 really bad points from DAOC:
1. Elitism, really bad for the community
2. Unbalancing, really bad for the game
I agree with you that there is lack of “achievements”, and the realm points system was nice. Though, balancing all of the realm skills was really hard, indeed they were mostly unbalanced.
Also, if the ranks increase player’s effectiveness (as it was in DAOC), you are basically making life much harder for any player willing to being playing in WvW. Having a usable pg will take months of frustration while you’re almost facerolled by the highest ranks players.
So how would you introduce ranks without unbalancing the game and without frustrating WvW newcomers?
I don’t agree on the too hard to kill people, in DAOC when you got a PA from a stealth enemy inside your keep (and this was already bad enough) you basically knew there was no escape in most cases. That was just frustrating, no fun at all. There was also no skill involved, the attacker had just to press a couple buttons to kill you, and you could not do anything. in GW2 if your enemy escapes you made something wrong, or viceversa if he dies he made a mistake. See, there’s skills involved here.
Not commenting on the sickness, the most boring and annoying thing in DAOC, not sure why anyone would like to see it again.
Finally, I think keeps defense is instead too weak, taking a keep in DAOC was quite harder (taking hours sometimes), npcs were stronger than GW2 ones, keeps had many points of defense (bridges, door, towers, keep lord room) where even with the enemy inside the keep you could still win. So far in GW2 I’ve seen people hitting the door, entering and taking the keep, npcs don’t exist, all ways to keep’s lord are straight. Hard to defend. Taking a keep must be hard, probably harder than it is now, imo.
If there’d be guilds HQ, there could be a Lab Room upgrade, so crafters may just go to their guild lab to craft quietly, it may include a seller without idle talks. Wouldn’t be cool to have your own lab?
The only issue is that it’s going from 30 to, well, into the single digits.
The frame drops is a problem sure, but vsync is only going to make it worse.
vsync is supposed to force you at 15fps when you go down from 30 and so on, so I think it’s working as intended, you should disable it if you want to maximize your fps.
That said, would be cool to have a drivers update, but don’t hold your breath, Apple doesn’t care much about graphic drivers.
don’t expect too much, I had the same MBP, the 9400m GPU I suppose you have is just bad for games.
For those with retina, is probably better if you halve your resolution to 1440×900, the default resolution is going to hit the video card with a big hammer.

30-40fps Win (medium-high details + FXAA)
20-30fps Mac (medium details + FXAA)

ahah, no you won’t burn your hands
Any unibody aluminium macbook would be hot, as well as any laptop (just that plastic doesn’t become so hot for obvious reasons)… just don’t use a laptop if you care about heat.
Limit framerate to 30 and reduce effects to keep it down. Btw it’s quite normal that the aluminium body becomes extremely hot, it’s the way MBP dissipates heat.
While bootcamping I can run with med. settings and some high (med shadows) and get 30-50 fps. I’m hoping the Mac client will allow me a light bump in graphic
It’s really unlikely, first directx games are usually always faster than opengl ones (drivers are far better and most games are developed for them), second this client is a port using a translation layer. If you’d get 70% of the Win perf that would already be a big win.
it’s more likely they will spend time creating a dx10+tesselation renderer, before writing a completely new opengl renderer…

I’m looking forward to comparing the Cider wrapper performance against Wine/Crossover.
I tried with Wineskin before and was quite terrible (so many bugs and slow), this Cider port is playable at least.
20-30 fps with all options medium+FXAA in Lion’s Arch
PS: this att 1440×900, half retina res.

2. not just from friends, also from guild members
Elementalist dagger already has a whip animation in air attunement fwiw
Mounts would be fine as a cosmetic, with no speed improvements or at a max 5% more than the current character speed. This wouldn’t break anything in the game.
Though, as someone said, would be a huge amount of work for animations and clipping that could be better spent elsewhere.
Good points OP, completely agree.
I fixed it just by going to WvW.
nunchucks main hand and throwing stars off-hand yeah, ninja!
In WvW you often have to aim high, for example on top of keeps walls. Since the camera height is so low, the space to do so is about 1/3 of the screen.
In the middle of this small space there is the current target UI, that disallows setting the AOE target in that area. The result is that the cast fails or fires in the wrong place, unless you use the 1/9 space on the top/left or top/right corner.
There is poor usefulness in being able to click on current target, so place make it transparent to mouse.
+1, the camera height is the only thing I really can’t accept in the game, I have to move the camera continuously in combat to see the target and where I’m moving cause half of the screen is useless ground.
In WvWvW when attacking keeps it’s really hard to target the top of the walls, especially cause the target itself appears in the middle of the targeting area and is clickable. So I basically have the 2 corners in the top part of the screen to target, and that leaves no way to check the surroundings.
