Massive Overheating?

Depends, what GPU do you have?

Ive found the game to be extremely CPU intensive, my sisters computer had the CPU to temps of 93+ degrees which caused the game to run at 1-4fps, and obviously bad for the CPU. Problem was the thermal paste needed reapplying, 40-50c after reapplying thermal paste and clearing out the crap windows stock fan.

As for GPU, my GTX 570 hasnt gone above 57c, though it is one of those GPUs built for heat treatment. On the other hand if you have an actual heatsink-graphic card like a GTX 295, itd probably hit the high 90s without a decently cooled tower.

cpu temp threshold is much lower, most should cut out at 75 deg.

as for gpu’s they are safe up to around 110 deg..while i don’t reccommend trying that for any extended period they should survive such temps with no major issues.

having 4 fans as the op states isn’t exactly great, do they all push air inside or out are the set up right to push and pull air properly.

air flow is key to cooling of a pc, i have 2 fans one pushes air in one draws it out i run stable temps under 50 deg all the time and run gw2 on high across the board.

it’s not the game it’s something you are doing/done/missing.

for some with this issue it will be just that, get a new computer how some expected to play this game with an old pc is beyond me. for others there is a genuine issue.

for me, i change settings and my fps actually got worse, so back to high for me as it was actually better than it was at med/low. kind of weird scenario i know.

so high across the board 55+ fps with natural drops to 30 in wvw time to upgrade my graphics card i think:(

Anet are most likely trying to work who actually has a problem over those that just need to be realistic with thier expectations.

upgrading to an ssd would be nice and the prices are only set to keep coming down as the technology matures, they are not unreliable and last for 5+ years longer if you set them up right from the start.

10k rpm mech drives are far to expencive and you would be better off with an ssd as they are frankly far far cheaper.

load times are the only thing that will change though regardless of which storage medium you choose to go with.

upgrading to a 64bit os should be your first port of call, you have more ram than your system can use, download the iso from ‘my digital life’ they offer direct links that work just fine burn to an iso using nero or some other software, plenty of free ones out there cdburnerxp being one that does iso’s use your current licence as it should work on a 64 bit version of the same os, make sure you download the same os windows 7 ultimate or the licence key won’t work. they may ask you to call to input a code, follow the instructions it’s really simple and hassle free and all automated.

graphics card, is fine for the purpose but it wasn’t meant for high performance in gaming, upgrading that opens a whole different issue with power supply changes.
