Let's Start the Karma DR Dialogue

Many players are concerned and upset over the malfunctioning DR, the lack of communication on the matter, and how DR is even supposed to function. In an attempt to facilitate some structured communication, I’m listing all the major questions that I am aware of. Please feel free to reply to this thread with questions I’m missing.

  • Is the company aware that DR is malfunctioning to the point that players are reporting reduced rewards before they can finish a single DE chain?
  • Is the DR meant for bots, and unintentionally affecting players who are legitimately farming?
  • Until now many of us have assumed that the ability to log in and out to reset the DR (for karma, at least) was meant for players to sort of, “prove they are human”. Now this is gone. What does this change represent? Why was such a huge change not in the patch notes?
  • Is it intentional that we get reduced karma rewards part way through karma boosters?

Thanks for the assistance, everyone. I’m sure we can have a respectful dialogue that soothes everyone’s concerns and gets the information we need out to the players and patrons.

Thanks Anet for the great patch.

My post concerning DR was deleted because I wasn’t considered respectful enough and I demanded an answer from the company. In this post I am attempting to rewrite my concerns according to the forum rules.

I am hurt and confused regarding the silent DR changes that went into this patch. Arenanet is clearing telling us how they do not want us to play, but has not explained why, nor offered a viable alternative. With the current DR things simply take longer. I’ve already poured every free minute I have into this game towards reaching the lofty legendary goal while juggling this with a “full time life”, but it wasn’t enough.

I strongly believe the community deserves communication on this matter. Ultimately we have to accept Arenanet’s decision, and we may choose to stop supporting the game if we decide this decision does not align with what we want from the game. But no matter how this plays out, it would make everyone much happier if we could hear something back.

I’m posting in this thread because my primary area of concern is that this major change was not in the patch notes and there is no sign of communication on the matter thus far from the company. While I’m thrilled about several of the bug fixes (notably dungeon token rewards and account bound item changes), I find it to be the worst patch thus far due to the aforementioned problems.

Pretty much the real issue of why DR is a problem for people

Not only what you said is true, but it’s plain for the eye to see that the DR system in place is simply TOO harsh that it’s affecting people not trying to farm karma, but trying to progress in a chain.

I got hit with DR just trying to cleanse the Cathedral of Silence because the event failed and had to do it again.

And this is what ArenaNet needs to work on. And it is what they will work on. But people need to be patient.

I’ve been patient, patience isn’t rewarded. Having endless hours to grind legendaries before the company starts penalizing players without offering a viable alternative is what’s rewarded, and it hurts. I’ve been playing every free minute on my quest for this lofty goal while juggling a demanding full time job and relationship, but I couldn’t complete it before they … what, decided it was going “too fast”? That’s just it, we don’t even know exactly what the point of this penalty is. If it really is to steer players away from grinding, then why aren’t they offering an alternative like they did with the reshaped dungeon rewards? Right now it’s just a slap on the wrist for not playing the way they want us to play.

The real issue is lack of communication. Not even addressing karma boosters right now.

Dynamic Event DR? WAI?

“This can not be how you envisioned the end-game for GW2.”

I feel the same way. If they don’t want us to grind DE’s for karma what ARE we supposed to do? When they removed dungeon token speed runs they gave incentive to players to explore all aspects of the dungeon every day. This makes sense, they are encouraging players to play the way they want. Where’s the new karma incentive? All I’m seeing is, “we want you to take longer”

Well kitten that. I juggled a challenging full time job and relationship along with this legendary quest and there’s no way I could’ve completed this in 1 month like some others did. Why should I be punished for that?

Thanks for the info. That’s even more disheartening. It’s a bitter-sweet night, seeing the first legendarys being acquired. I’m very happy for them and admire their extreme dedication, while simultaneously frustrated and bitter that for unknown reasons Arenanet is punishing those equally dedicated players.

For reasons I cannot understand, Arenanet failed to publish in their latest patch notes that players are now unable to reset the reduced-karma-rewards code by logging in and logging out. Because Arenanet has yet to comment on this code, including who it is intended to penalize and why, we can only speculate.

Whatever their reasoning, the bottom-line is I need well over 700,000 more karma to acquire a legendary weapon. I’ve already dumped $30 into the Gem store in karma boosters out of a planned $80. Tonight I hit the karma cap approximately 40 minutes into my booster with no way to reset it that I am aware of besides to stop running events for an undetermined amount of time. Some people say it can be up to 30 minutes.

What is going on? Who is this code meant for and why are the most tenacious, dedicated players being punished? Why are we being punished for trying harder than anyone else? I just feel… betrayed, and I know I’m not the only one. Posts are popping up all over the forums and on Reddit of dedicated players who just feel like they’ve been smacked in the face for committing to the most daunting task in the game. I know it sounds dramatic, but I love this game. I’ve made it a big part of my life, I’ve dumped hundreds of hours and extra money into it. Why can’t we even get a comment on this?

Please.

Dynamic Event Karma Reduction System

As of today’s patch re-logging no longer fixes the karma reduction problem. I cannot express how livid I am. I bought 10 karma boosters with USD from the Gem Store and 40 minutes into my first one I received the reduction. I could deal with it when it only took 30 seconds to log in and out, but now this? I couldn’t get dungeon rewards because of the dungeon reward bug the past 6 days, and after setting my sights on the legendary (which we all know takes over 1 MILLION KARMA) now Arenanet doesn’t want me to get karma? Please, Arenanet, what do you want me to do in this game, exactly?

We need answers, now. Is this bug? Is this code to limit player’s karma earning to prevent botting? Is this a temporary solution to some other exploit not mentioned. Please, Arenanet, TALK TO US. I’ve bought your game and $30 in Gems ALREADY, I just want to know what is going on.

“Log out.

DR is gone."

Wrong. You can’t reset it anymore as of this patch. This is ridiculous. I hit the DR 40 minutes into my 1 hour karma booster, of which I just bought 10. First I can’t run dungeons for a week without getting **** rewards, now I can’t grind for my legendary? Please, arenanet, do you NOT WANT me to play the game???
