Armor Attribute Suggestion

Hello guys,

I would like to suggest an armor prefix (thus referring to its attributes) for toughness, vitality and healing power. As a guardian I prefer to play the support role and would love to have these three attributes rolled into one armor type. By type I mean the armor prefixes (ie – Cleric’s armor).

While this is based on my play style, I believe it would be very useful for people wanting to play a tough healer style support character in those more challenging areas of the game like dungeons. Thank you for your consideration!

I’d buy this. I was also thinking it may be cool to have some kind of a time capsule, where you could change a decision you made for one portion of your personal story and play out the rest of that story (typically 3 or 4 quests).

I had no idea there were spikes like that, pretty crazy.

Personally, I did see one spike that I thought was out of sorts. In other games I’ve played, I noticed the market price of items was always elevated from Friday nights to about Sunday mid-day. The logical assumption is that more people are on at these times so demand peaks at these times during the week. I started to do my buying off peak and selling on peak with good results. I’m going to give it a few more weeks to see how the gem market sorts itself out, but I was watching for the same thing. Strangely, this past Thursday there was a very steady increase in Gem prices (pretty much a line) then it dropped right off and was basically the week low. I’m not sure if people were trying to inflate the market to sell their gems for more or what but it was odd. This weekend the price didn’t seem to climb a whole lot either.

I should have been more specific about power leveling, and stated that this would happen when having a max level character was more common. People with a large disposable source of cash see the benefits of learning a new craft (gaining soulbind on acquire for instance). This will not inflate the price of easy to obtain copper. It would be balanced by the demand of people learning more/new crafts with the supply on the lower end characters, or higher level chars willing to invest the time. I saw similar trends in WoW. As more players became higher level, and as the level cap increased (along with the potential to make money) the basic ore prices went way beyond anything of equal value the vendor could offer. It was very productive for a low level character to sell some of their basic materials on the auction house: they could use that relatively large amount of money to buy a great deal of lower level vendor sold items, or use it to buy good player items also for sale on the auction house.

It will be interesting to see where things sit in 1 or 2 months from now.

I’ve seen the prices of sigils and bags go up quite a bit in the last week or so. Not so long ago a major sigil of bloodlust was 2s, now it is 12s. That said, I may just be a victim of being the same average level as most players and am riding the buldge up to the top with everyone else.

I agree with bluejay’s initial point. Crafting has been at least for me something that has not really required any investment. I did do one big shot where I went up about 75 levels in crafting buy buying lots of mats, but they were cheap.

I disagree with the last two paragraphs. For now, this may be the case however consider this: When people have leveled up and are either leveling another character or new craft, since they will have access to more money from end game items and events they will have much more buying power. They will use this purchasing power to buy all the mats they need from the TP and use it to power level their crafts. This will drive up the price of goods to higher levels, and make low level farming of mats more viable for new, low level or poor players.

Whenever there is a spike in a system, there are shockwave effects that take time to reach equilibrium again. The beginning of the game was such a spike, since no TP existed before then. The game is still transitioning to its natural equilibrium as players level.

I’ve been watching the price of metal ore slowly creep up. I’d be interested to see which items are used to peg the current value of gold. Gems is an obvious first choice. In GW1 I could get a good feel for the value of gold by looking up the prices of either ectos, black dye, or superior runes of vigor. Consider them the “Big Mac Benchmark.”

I’ve read that John Smith will be making some changes to help correct the low TP prices. How much needs changing? Many people are still just starting the game so the bulge hasn’t worked its way to the higher levels yet. Won’t this just correct itself when gold is easier to come by?

I also read that Anet is looking at changing the game to get more people to get upgrades more often. I’m not certain how they will accomplish this since it is so easy to level. Right now I’ve been averaging buying upgrades to my gear every 20 levels. That means there is a pile of stuff not in demand by me for many levels.

Lastly, I’m still leveling and don’t have really any spare cash. Between the upgrades which nearly set me back to zero, buying training books and all the map traveling I do there isn’t much to spare.

The Bag Market Has No Sinks!

The way it stands now, the market will be saturated with low sized bags. Lots of people are low level, and as the opening posts mentioned they just get recycled. This isn’t a bad thing for people just starting with low funds. Also, people are crafting and making stuff to level so the low end items are bound to be in huge supply.

However, I do not believe there will be the same issue with high end bags. You buy them and they won’t be replaced.

State of the Economy

I would first like to say that I am impressed Anet hired an economist to monitor and improve on this aspect of the game. Just another way they demonstrate their commitment to the game for everyone.

Now down to business. I also appreciate the state of the economy posts. Knowledge is power, and it empowers our players.

In the last state of the economy post, John Smith stated that Anet was going to make changes to the item drops in the game to bring the BLTP out of a vendor based equilibrium. I’d like to add my two cents. I am not certain how much should be done about this at the moment. Following are my reasons why.

The game is young. Thus, people haven’t had time to accumulate wealth or get to high levels (for the general population). That said, people are still relatively “poor” compared to where the economy will be after 6 or 12 months. This has an impact on prices at the trading post since people don’t have the fat wallets to buy everything up.

It has also been mentioned that it is easy for players to surpass the level they can craft at compared to their current level. While I do agree that is true, I don’t view this as a problem. It is easy to level a character, even casually. It is also easy to level crafting. If I want to craft something my level I have just leveled my crafting skill all in one shot. This has happened a couple of times. I find myself wanting to adventure more than stop and craft a couple items here or there to keep my skill up. I found it was easier to work with the BLTP to buy extra materials and do all my crafting at once (since I was already set up to do so). I think this is also another reason why trading post material costs are so low. There is a huge supply that isn’t being demanded all at once. People start to undercut to make a sale, and it becomes a race to vendor price + 1 copper.

It won’t be hard to get to max character level. If you truly want to get people to level their crafting more linearly with their character level, the most obvious way to do so is slow the overall leveling speed down. That is without thinking outside the box of course. I have seen time and again Anet make minor changes which have a big impact to accomplish their goals. I have no doubt you guys will sort this out without negatively affecting gaming experience.

I look forward to more on the story!

I attempted to put it as simple as possible in the title. I’m a vet RPGer who likes to have fun, hang out and stomp the monsters in PvE. I’m seeking a mature guild who is laid back and likes to have good times. I am down for everything from helping in noob areas to totally kicking butt in the end game. Not up for that? No problem, we’ll head to the pub so you can hear about my my day in the mines beating back the bandits with my shovel. I look forward to your responses!
