I’ve been playing ranger type classes in every MMO since the dawn of time it feels like, and this iteration of the bow wielding pet master feels pretty good overall, it just seems to be missing some of the groundwork that years of trial and error other companies and games have gone through.
1. pets and spirits…in most of these games the survivabilty of an A.I controlled companion has to either be aware and responsive to terrain and area of effect, or it needs to have passive bonuses to reduce thier impact. This one area would go a long way to helping the class along, in other MMO’s this has always been a problem and the simple soloution was aoe dmg reduction to the pet.
2. The lack of diversity in builds…well lets be honest, most of us came into the class expecting to rock a longbow and be a pest, supported by a pet. I think for some things the longbow and shortbow are for the most part accomplishing that, but the problem is the utility. We don’t have enough tricks up our sleeves in relation to the other classes..and it’s not just extra damage or attack speed math stuff..I mean fun things to do in combat. For instance abilities like ground targeted jumps like engineer or warrior hammer f1. blinks, teleports, invisibility etc all other classes have some fun tactical stuff that makes exploring and playing the game fun, rangers have nothing like that.
3. Melee suvivability…well every class that decides to run into a fight swinging an implement of death can either survive by mitigation or evasion, rangers have the option to roll with a greatsword, but nothing really fun to back it up, it feels fairly boring and even a little kittened.
I’m calling bs on this, what company would purposely cut off the potential profit of revisiting one of it’s most successful expansions, especially when many of the art assets can be used towards recreation.
Cantha and Elona both earned high marks for fans, and it would be a crime against gaming to ignore the potential awesome jumping puzzles a place like the echovald forest could produce, still one of the best environments ever created in gaming period.
Warrior rifle animation is way better, engineer rifle hip shot is one of the worst animation, please change it Anet!
I’d think this Alliance is in your head bro, cause me and a map full of nsp are trebbing the pish out of your keeps and kicking in your doors all morning.
I think at this point I’d hide yo kids and hide yo wives really.

It cracks be up so much when folks downplay DH success. There’s this atmosphere that we’re lucky or just PvE nightcappers. What those people have yet to realize, which is very surprising this far into the game’s release is (and I’ll repeat what’s been said a thousand times on these forums) WvW is 24-hour warfare.
We have worked hard to fill and improve our server’s weaknesses, including those gaps when we just don’t have enough players during some of those hours. We are ahead and I dare say, will continue to be throughout the week simply because DH is a strong server. Dispute or downplay that all you want, under the misguided view that you’re better than us by virtue of your former higher rankings on the server ladder. But SoR and DH are proof that you can no longer dismiss what were once lower tier servers from the competition, when they set their mind to fixing their problems, instead of just griping about them and their competition.
Yes, we still have a 6-8 hour early morning gap where other servers can practically walk all over us. Its practically PvE for them. So to accuse us of PvE capping yet bragging that the same can be done to us is hypocrisy if I’ve ever heard any.
Since this is 24-hour warfare, every server should be striving to have 24 hour coverage. The top-tier servers have figured that out. We have figured that out but still have some work to do. We’ve come a long ways from just having an 8-hour prime time for our server. We now have really good coverage 16-18 hours a day. Once we fill in those last remaining hours with strong teams that are as coordinated as the rest, nothing will stop us from competing in the top 3 brackets.
Don’t get me wrong, I expect a challenge from both Maguuma and NSP. And my prediction of DH victory is anything but certain. BUT just stop this nonsense of DH having no skill, no competitive edge in real battles, etc. Truth is, during all North American servers’ prime times (5pm-10pm pst) we will still win more battles than you’d give us credit for.
Once you take the blinders off and recognize your competition’s true capabilities you can actually do something against them. But those who downplay DH abilities and effectiveness really don’t know their enemy very well at all.
no offfence Darkhaven, but if Magumma had your numbers across the board you’d be toast, they are much more tactically creative and organized …..and way more frustrating to counter than anything you’ve brought to the table in this match or last week’s since this match began they’ve been the server to beat, not Darkhaven and this misguided (probably imaginary ) alliance against them is only going to inflate your score, not help ours, by effectively making NSP the cannon fodder for darkhaven’s lead to expand.
I don’t understand why there are so many Rangers crying about this profession that is totally viable and fun to play, what do you people need?
Does Anet need to come to your house show you how to play and rub your tummy?
It seems every profession forum is crammed full to bursting with complAints, and none of the posters are even Linking builds, man up,link some builds so you can be taught.
I play dual pistols and elixir, I love the flexibility of the class, when I’m bored I can swap some things around and play bunker or annoying, or go super support mode. When I farm wvw jumping puzzles I have a rifle on for hard jumps and mines and net turrets for covering my back.
I’d love to see weapon stats affect kits, or some kind of auto attack for grenades, for my sore fingers, but I’m sure these quality of life changes will arrive eventually.
Overall I am enjoying the engineer very much and hope these forums become less about dissatisfaction and more about builds and tactics
I agree with the timer idea or the must kill the keep lord idea as well, while anet can patch this particular exploit, adding one of those mechanics might prevent similar exploits down the line
I’m from nsp, and I’m not patting myself on the back, and we have a large population and active wvw guilds, we’re winning cause of numbers regardless of orbs the population mismatch is massive.
I give credit to both our oppositions for coming in each night and at least playing, anyone from nsp bragging about the score or claiming we have better strategy is a dummy, we have more people more hours of the day.
I hope you guys keep having success in getting organized, as an NSP player it’s nice to get good fights, had a lot of fun last night in boralis
Northern Shiverpeaks has hacked the Orb twice tonight. Same as last week.
in WvW

I was in Boralis map with my guild war up till Friday 12 am, and never saw this? I know our guild would not condone hacking and the fighting there was too fun, especially the attempts to get the orb up north.
If there is an individual from our server hacking I hope they are banned, because this match up has been too much fun. I’ll keep an eye out and see if there’s any evidence on our end and hopefully this won’t keep our enemies from continuing to battle.
Why would you want to stop teaming up? It adds a juicy meta game to the battle
I do a lot of WvW and I love the range Longbow gives me, what builds, gear etc best suit this playstyle?
I hope it’s like factions, I’d love to see cantha reborn, especially the echovald forest
I’m happy for the op that it was a “slap in the face”, after reading the post it was well deserved, it’s a video game not the second coming
In a weird way it keeps the playing field more even so new wvw player’s aren’t getting one shot
I’m a fan of Jeremy’s compositions, morrowind in particular really pumps my nads.
That would be great, I had to add the tracks in from the soundtrack as part of the playlists
My guild would transfer to a lower population server in a heartbeat, the problem is the amount of time and effort we’ve put in to unlocking guild rewards will be wasted, some of those rewards cost real cash… And it’s cash we don’t intend to spend twice.
Is there a way arenanet can consider letting guilds that leave high population world’s to smaller population world’s bring their unlocked guild research with them for a short period of time? Perhaps before 2 week matches start.
[WOLF]
Laid back guild building a home in GW2, we have all the standard stuff, catering to players with lives and jobs.
We are looking for mature players, group oriented and we tend to do a lot of WvW, mostly weekends.
If you use “Bads” as a descriptive term we probably won’t get along… we prefer a more mature guild chat and aren’t into the drama types.
website is here,
If you want a fun place to have a few beers and stay up late pvping on the weekends give us a visit.
Why not just one week matches for wvw? It seems it would be more fun knowing every Friday you’re going to have a new enemy for the weekend….
Also getting a ranged pet and learning to kite will improve your pet’s lifespan
I’m glad it’s gone, it was annoying having other Rangers pets getting in my way that didn’t understand swapping and the return to me command
