I have been following this thread and I am a bit confused, that screen you show is from when you install from disk, when I upgraded one of my drives to ML from the App store I did not even see that screen.
I say this because when you buy from the App store you are logged in with the drive that you booted your machine from and therefore would not see the screen you show.
I hope not as a native client would be so much better, I suppose the argument these days could be, well you can run Bootcamp, Cider and Wine why should we spend more money on another client.
And I never expected it to work 100%. However, I did expect it to run for more than 5 minutes without going to a black screen and crashing.
The client is nothing to do with your problems, I run this game at nearly its highest settings and do not get black screen crashing. I did with a lesser graphics card but the problem was resolvable by lowering the graphics settings and screen resolution.
Game Beta testing maybe free, but that phase of this game is over, now it is only the client.
Do not forget most Mac people who bought this game where either running it under WIndows In Bootcamp where it works fine, or under a Wine wrapper where it had problems but it did run. Then Arenanet suddenly dropped a Cider wrapped game client which does work OK with only minor irritants as long as your machine and internet access can handle it.
Apart from your machine specs in the other post what is your graphics card and how good is your internet access ?

Mac OS X
Version 10.7.4
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8GB 1333 MHz DDR 3Arenanet said those playing on the mac client would have their characters wiped when the beta was over meaning… starting from scratch.
And your graphics card ?
What are your machine specs, it will help people to answer your question.

This is my setup.
Mac Pro 2009 4,1
Mountain Lion 10.8.2
Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHZ
Memory 6 GB
XFX Radeon HD6870 card
And yes I get lag
They really do need to make a Mac native client which the game deserves not just wrap the game.
EDIT: I have found that by upping the graphics settings it lessens the lag, very strange.

The game client lost its connection to the server

I do not understand all the game ‘crashing’ problems when a so called server disconnect happens.
If I am in game playing with lots of players around me and in game NPCs and then I turn off my router therefore causing a server disconnect the game does not crash as such. I find myself in exactly the area of the game but with no NPCs or other players and I can run around quite happily. No black screen, no computer crash, no game client lost it’s connection to the server (7:11:3:189:111) messages.
You should see it if you look at the keyboard mapping in the controls menu
Of coarse, how stupid am I, do not answer that
What is the key for screenshots on the Mac keyboard ?

I have had this problem from time to time but this game is still in its infancy so to speak.
WoW was pretty much the same when first released from what I have read, bugs things not working etc etc.
These type of games are so BIG and to test for every machine setup that different players with all different computers, cpu’s, amounts of memory, graphics cards etc etc etc etc would be near impossible. So they put out a game that WILL work under certain specs, then WE the players with all our different setups should let them know look this does not work with my setup. If your setup meets the basic specs but your graphics card with your amount of memory has never been tested then you should let them know what problems you are getting then they should tweak there code to suit.
SO when BIG games like this appear you either jump in at the start bugs and all, or wait until ALL the bugs have been ironed out which could take quite sometime.
My problems where caused by the graphics settings, since slowly working through them I now get a pretty much bug free gaming experience 98% of the time.
OK, firstly some machine specific information would be good.
Which OS you running ?
How much memory do you have ?
Which graphics card do you have ?
Etc etc etc
Basically all your machine specifications.
All that would help for people to assist you.
Snow Leopard is it……………………..
Around 60 % of the days/nights I want to play, my game loses the connection after a couple of minutes. If I logout and back in, it works for a few more minutes, and then I have it again.
My internet works fine, it must have to do something with the game.
Or is the server just to busy?
Sorry. posted in error.
On disconnetions, Your broadband connection can discon and recon under normal operation browsing etc and you would not even know, it happens so fast.
What is strange with all these discons or what are seen as discons is in that I can connect to GW2 and play, then I switch of my router and leave it off, therefore causing a disconnect, the game does not crash I can keep playing but there are no mobs or toons anywhere and I can move through the game world, weird.
What you need to use an Xbox controller on the Mac.
Xbox controller driver from – http://tattiebogle.net
ControllerMate – http://www.orderedbytes.com/controllermate
Not used the above in GW2 but use it in another game running under Wine.
Good luck with setting up ControllerMate Took me an age just to get basic buttons setup.
Disconnections are normaly down to either your router or your broadband connection I would assume.
A broadband connection when being used for normal browsing etc can disconnect and come straight back on and you would not even notice.
When I first started to read about disconnect problems I logged into GW2 and started to play, I then turned my router off and guess what this was the fun part. I was running around in the game no problems there where just no mobs or other peoples toons. I did not get a disconnect issue.
Maybe somebody can explain this, not to bothered but would be interesting when others get disconnects ?
I must admit until I tweaked the settings and changed the fullscreen resolution I was using I was getting game crash issues.
Is there anything in the offing for changing your player name/names ?
OK, found this -
Trophy items (with text in grey) are all sold with the “sell junk” option at merchants. So I figure that, generally speaking, that’s their purpose.
Salvage items can also be sold, but the difference is that you can get crafting materials applying a salvage kit on them.
Other trophy items won’t appear as salvageable, but they won’t be considered junk either (their text will be white instead of grey), because some NPC collects them (indicated on the item description). You can return them to the NPC that claims them or you can sell them.
What are trophy items for/do ?
I assume the the ones that say Trophy Salvage item can be salvaged for usable craft stuff.
Moving from a PC to a MAC will I lose my characters?

Once you have it on one machine you can move to any machine that you require it on.
Inside the GW2 APP look for a folder called GW2 that’s the one you need to move across.
On the Mac download the Mac client then……..
On the Mac – Right click the GW2 APP you will see a folder called Contents > Resources > Transgaming > c_drive
Drop the GW2folder from your PC into the c_drive folder and you should be good to go.
The above just saves you downloading it all again, all your account details including characters is held by the Arenanet servers so you will be OK
If you are getting the black screen crashes even on the lowest settings then it is either your machine spec and or an unstable net connection.
I was getting black screen crashes, so I lowered settings to there worst, then slowly worked my way up through them, then I set a slightly lower screen resolution now all seems fine, I am happy.
My specs are
————————-
MacPro
OS X 10.7.5
2.66GHz Quad – Core Intel
6Gb Mem
Graphics card ATI Radeon HD4870
Thanks everyone, armours looking better already
You cannot put a downer on Arenanet because your machine cannot cope with running the game in Ultra mode. That is why all these type of games come with settings, you have to find the best optimum settings for your machine, sorry but that is how it is.
When I first ran the game I was not happy, crashes etc , since adjusting settings I am happy, not elated but happy. Infact I prefer running it under the Mac client, do not like it under windows very much.
How are you going to loose all the game hours you have put in ?
As for
I keep seeing online that you can dye your armour in game ankittenep finding dye bottles.
How do you use them to dye your armour, read of vendors but I cannot find one.
No special apps required for this, just change it in the system prefs.
With me I have to turn off and reboot.
I run the game under Windows and under Mac, I had solved the blackscreen during play issue by adjusting the settings. But after todays patch it is back after about half an hour of play.
No other graphic intensive game I run on Mac or Windows has this issue which all points to their end.
I am running 10.7.5.
Hmmm, I do not see this as a failed anything in the machine itself, why, because there are many people suffering from this everywhere you search on the net, Macs and PCs.
Also all other graphics intense games run OK, WoW, Scyrim, Witcher etc etc……….
Removed not required.

I have been playing GW2 on Mac under Wine, Bootcamp and the Mac Client.
First my machine specs.
MacPro
OS X 10.7.5
2.66GHz Quad – Core Intel
6Gb Mem
Graphics card ATI Radeon HD4870
OK, now for the blackscreening problem, this would occur sometimes after 10 minutes play at other times an hour or so.
This would happen under the Mac client or WIndows under Bootcamp.
I knocked back all the settings to their lowest and worked my way up through them to try and find something that maybe would cause the blackscreen problem, yesterday I found something.
I upped the Shaders setting from Low to Medium and within about half an hour, bang, blackscreen.
After rebooting I put the shaders setting back to Low and played on for a while with no black screen.
Just thought it was worth a mention.
