I’ve been playing celestial DD ele all day in spvp. I think it’s a lot stronger than it was before, now that you are able to bundle: elemental attunement, elemental contingency, and evasive arcana into a nice little package.
The re-spawn timer may not be the issue, however, some kind of death penalty should be introduced into the system. You could even go as far as to cleanse the death penalty with a successful hero channel, or something similar of that nature.
I really miss the notion of rallying behind a “morale boost”. Which I guess, is what the hero spawn is suppose to represent. It doesn’t feel that way.
Let’s face it winning by points is after 15 minutes is kind of dull. You want that crushing defeat, or the thrill of victory.
Thank you. I never post on forums, but I was inspired by the game mode. I see a lot of potential here I just want to see it succeed.
Hello everyone. Long time reader 1st time writer here. After playing the stronghold beta I was instantly reabsorbed into guild wars 2. I had a ton of fun playing it, both solo and with friends.
There is one thing lacking however, the tension of “oh crap, we just wiped at their lord and now we are going to likely lose.”
Before that let me give you a little bit of background on myself. I played gw1 competitively since it launch until about 2008. I was a member of the trueblade we took 23rd place during the second gw1 ladder season. That was the most success I’ve ever achieved in that game. So this is coming from an enthusiast, and not a “top player”.
Stronghold brought back a lot of those memories from playing guild wars. A rush of nostalgia invigorated me and I was all about playing this game mode. In fact, I played it from around 11 hours or so. I was hooked.
During my playtime, I noticed a lot of stuff that could have been done better and brought more pacing and tension to the game. For example in guild wars 1 if you wanted to kill an enemy base and solo the guild lord, it took A LOT of work and time. Mainly assassins could do this but I’ve seen a handful of skilled warriors and rangers also do this. In stronghold, it’s not like that. One glass zerker can just leeroy your lord unload his damage a few times, die, and repeat. There is no penalty for this type of play. (granted this has a little bit of set up time, not dismissing that.)
GVG in gw1 punished bad play and rewarded good play. Mesmer gets caught out of position and gets spiked down. Bad play. The player was punished for getting greedy, sloppy, or whatever. This bad play also punished the team because now your monks had to push up to try and heal your stupid mesmer self, and now they are out of position and vulnerable. Stronghold doesn’t really seem to punish bad play. You just re-spawn in 15 seconds and go at it again. There is no room for power plays while a man is down, they just come right back and are in the fight.
Sure it’s fun and all fine in a casual setting. In a more competitive setting this can get rather annoying, spending all your time and resources to take down that bunker guardian or engie defending the gate only to have them reappear in such a short-time window. It’s rather annoying.
I think anet needs to put more emphasis on good play as opposed to sloppy play. Punish those players for it, and reward those who are playing well.
Some suggestions for this are as follows:
Make the pit (lord room) more dangerous to solo players to come and gank the whole room. It should be a team effort to defend the lord / push for the win.
Each guild lord fight the lord should start with full hp. This will discourage those kamikaze strategies I mentioned earlier.
If not that, maybe add a healing modifier to the lord so a team can choose to spend the time to heal the lord to full health.
Make archers have another purpose or spawn two at a time with your supply investment.
In conclusion, stronghold might not be traditional gvg in the sense however, it adds it’s own flair to the mmo pvp. It’s in its own right a very good, fun, and challenging game more. With some minor improvements, it could be the best pvp experience in a long time.

yeppers! Hit me up in game!
Yo, me. Pick me! Pick me!
Here is the strategy my group uses when we fight her. It has worked flawlessly up to lvl 25 so far, not sure about any of the fights above 25.
When the phase starts we mark one of our party member. Then we play follow the leader going counter-clockwise around the outside of the room. We also use team-wide swiftness skills just for this fight, (I.E. Retreat) All the bombs should all fall behind your team, and your team will be safe from anyone dying. It’s so easy even a pug could do it!
Hope this helps save some of you guys some frustration.
I’m unclear as to why you say shouts don’t work in the current meta. You have the condi-cleanse for when you need it, and it’s not selfish like meditations that only the user the benefits, I.E. Contemplation of Purity which will turn all of your conditions to boons on a 60 (untraited) cool-down. Where save yourselves (also on a 60 sekittenraited cool-down) will remove all conditions from allies. Granted they are moved over the guardian, it’s still the better trade off imo. Alleviate the pressure, so your team can better apply pressure.
You are the bunker, you are the support. Even if you are getting stacked and re-stacked that means that the other team is focusing on the bunker and not on your DPS where if your DPS is good enough they won’t be alive long enough to capitalize on downing the bunker. Try and also remember the amount of rez utility available to the meta build; Spirit, Banner, Signet, etc.
It’s cool an all to stay alive as long as possible as a bunker but if you focus to much on yourself, your team will suffer for it. There was a reason Azshene ran the build he did. His team left him alone for most of the game to bunker mid, they were putting pressure elsewhere and left him to survive or die until they had time to back him up. They weren’t using the guardian for his support abilities, they were using it for the self survival-ability hence the selfish guardian build. It’s really going to come down to your teams style of play.
Now on to sanctuary. The skill is very good, however, the sheer amount of stability in the meta makes it counter-intuitive. You throw sanctuary down on a point to get a rez, secure a stomp, etc. It’s most likely going to be negated by some form of stability or an equal equivalent. This skill fell hard out of the EU meta due the rise of warriors, small form engies, and plague forming necromancers who will just use their stability skills and you just wasted a 120 second cool-down.
Not every team just has their bunker baby sit middle point why the rest of the team pushes far point. The guardian is a major asset in team-fights. He should go where the team fight is. One of your dps can 1v1 and secure mid just as easily as a guardian can.
In closing, i’m not bashing you, your opinion, or your style of play, i’m clearly stating as to why his guardian build is still very viable in the current meta. For it’s meant to team fight and not be a place holder.

What is this north korean? The guy is free to fun his team as he pleases. You don’t have to join, and i’m sure he doesn’t care about your opinions sounds like y’all are just wasting time and kittening just to kitten.
eles : anet nerfed backstab theifs 1 shooting people and they made eles 1 shooting people …hmmmmm
This actually takes some skill to pull off during a game, there are a lot of button presses involved, unlike the thief that was a 3 button I win combo.
I would say add more titles instead. Like Legendary Champion Magus for like 2,500 wins in ranked games, etc. You can have one at 5,000, 7,500, 10,000 (Super Saiyan Balling out of control champion legendary mesmer(or whatever class you play) man for 10,000 wins) or something along those lines.
You get a lot of points just for getting 200 hot joins wins on each class, i’m sure this will work in a custom arena, just play 1,600 games and bam, profit :P
It would be fun, but it’s not the best way to learn. I’m sure after they get everything else maybe next year they will add a dueling tournament system. There is a community group who puts on a 1v1 tournament every friday night.
For starters, two of your idea’s already exist in spvp. You can hold shift to ping or draw on the map. Second, leaderboards.guidwars2.com. They have rating you just can’t see it. Thirdly, I agree, if they show classes in the que and let you talk to the players before even entering the map, you can get your team comp set accordingly.
The thing is they don’t really have any traits for staff. Everything is geared towards s/d or d/d. Blasting Staff is alright but It needs to have some kind of another reason to take it over renewing stamina.
A few traits in fire magic could be re-worked to help out staff seeing as the attacks hit so often they don’t really need a high crit chance to be effective. An instant or near instant blast finisher would go along way to help the staff also.
I don think it would help at all. People would just spec for 1v1s which people wouldn’t normally do in spvp and tpvp. You’ll learn how to fight 1v1 against other 1v1 specific builds, it won’t teach you anything about team fighting, rotations, etc.
Hey, I wrote up a guide on into the mists it’s geared for new bunkers and has come good tips. Check it out maybe you’ll learn something.
Hi guys, my name is sir nibb, I play guardian in pvp. I’m not the best guard out there but I do have some knowledge about my class that some newer players might not know about. So I wrote a guide on into the mist.com geared for newer guardian’s to learn from someone experienced. Hope you guys enjoy!

This is just my opinions, and my approach to bunking.
Cheers!
Happy Bunking!
I think it should be last down is first up, then teams who win team fights and still have downed players have to spend a couple seconds rezzing. This could add a little more time so that the team that has to recover isn’t getting full rushed at their home point.
This will also make people have to act quickly to save their other allies before they bleed out.
For Elementalist: I would like to see the trait persisting flames moved from a grandmaster trait to a master trait and have the fury reduced to 7 seconds down from 10 and fire fields to 15% longer, this is a really cool trait and can add to team fighter support eles. A lot of people can’t warrant a 30 point investment in fire magic to use the trait. Also a lot of the other traits in fire magic line are just plain pointless in pvp. Maybe you can do a split, and make some of them not so worthless.
For Warriors: I would like to see frenzy reworked. Maybe have a stiffer penelty like 75% more damage taken, but on a shorter cool down. It was such a big part of warriors in gw1 and I would like to see they at that status again. Maybe some thing to help with condi cleanse.
Smack in the middle of quakecon
I would say no. This is the biggest troll map, and it’s going to encourage troll builds, and pigeonhole people into run mass fears and kds, pulls. If you think necros are bad now wait till you have three or four of them fear locking you off a cliff.
I think kick is a wonderful skill. It’s a 1/2 second interrupt on a 20 sec (non-traited) cool-down. Which means getting that quick interrupt on a heal, or stopping a rez. There is a lot of utility potential with kick, if the skill is used properly. As far as bolas, it can get removed rather easily with condi removal.
Elixikittenll: Now always applies quickness correctly.
Clearly the most OP skill ever!
Ingame name:Mr. Pegasus (aka Sir Nibb)
Main Class / Potential Classes (Incase team requires):Main Ranger, Can also play guardian if needed.
Region: NA – Central
Practice Times: After 8pm Central. (After may 13th, it will be all day)
Experience: Rank 41
Other (Anything else that you would like to add): Played GW1 gvg at top 20 level seasons 2 – 3 (Warrior/Mesmer), Aion (Ranger), Tera (Mystic), Rift (Warrior/Rouge). I’m super chill and easy to get along with.
What if that lvl 1 was playing alt acct and his main was actually 20-30, in that case the mmr is working. How many lvls 1’s would start by solo joining lol
If main is lvl 20, then his alt is lvl 20.
I’m pretty sure he was referring to an alternate account, not character.
People are expecting a huge update to PVP this month. PVP is the only thing holding me to this game. The PVE is such a chore. Nothing is even remotely challenging. Arenanets definition of a PVE challenge is laughable at best and insulting at worst.
This month will decide wether I give a kitten about this game.
I’m sorry for being a bringer of bad news but they already announced that March won’t be the sPvP month, they are focusing on PvE (as always) and on WvW.
For sPvP, expect some light balance like always, because they don’t want to risk anything and nothing more.
Source?
What weapons are you using? Thing with guardians is your have to time your damage around the dodges of your opponent. Remember that you can start a skill then pop judges and you will continue to preform the activated skill. That could help you keep the gap closed, as well as deal your damage.
The highest single target burst from a guardian comes from sword/focus with a meditation build. 10/30/30/0/0. You pop your focus 5, then sword 3, then judges intervention, followed by smite condition. The burst is actually quite insane. As far as DPS goes, I would have to say sword/torch and GS will net you the best dps over time.
What is your build? You never posted it.
^ answer please!

It works in Rampage with a warrior. You get double hp, and 20 seconds of stability. If you spec tanky you are super hard to bring down. Plus the movement skills a warrior can have is insane.
After playing a few games on the new map with my warrior I noticed how incredibly effective at running the orb of ascension. I sat down and put a little build together and now I’m going to share it with the all of the warriors in Tyria.

Anyone tried Forge?
I have. It’s kind of like traditional mmo combat meets quake. Very fast paced. I haven’t played it a ton because I was finding gw2 to be more enjoyable. It’s a neat little game for what it is though.
I’m stuck at work, So I haven’t been able to test it out. As a avid solo-queue r i’m excited about this. Hopefully it’s good at tracking individuals.
implying arenanet has a deep frier, more like a slow-cooker stuck inside of a black hole distorting images of “soon” warping your brain until you inevitably implode from the gravity of reality
Mind Blown.
Pin Down: This ability now applies bleeding to targets that it hits.
Smoldering Arrow: This ability is now a full projectile finisher.
Guys, it’s cool. They buffed the warrior’s longbow. -_-
i’m at work now, so i’ll remake it and post it when i get home.

That’s the build I’ve been running lately with success. It has great mobility, excellent burst, and above average survival ability. It’s built glass cannon but with your utilities, good condition removal, and a little bit of whit, you can achieve a lot with this build.
Remember that frenzy counts as a stun break. Let them open on you, break thief CC with frenzy and then bull’s charge and burst them down. If they go stealth, throw a blade trail forward, and swing behind and around you. You should be able to hit them. I always found it best to counter attack thieves, that way you burst them and they can’t burst you.
I love the staff. It’s such a good weapon if you use it right. The skills are meant to be used together. For instance, Use symbol of swiftness, throw your orb, and then use auto attack. That is how I use it in pve and spvp, you get a lot of damage on mobs, and you can usually tag everyone in an event. Utilize the traits for staff and two handed weapon cool-down reduction and you will find yourself loving this weapon a lot more.
