I’m just curious, making sure I’m not missing anything, because I suddenly don’t see the point.
I joined a guild SPECIFICALLY to finish my personal story. I tried repeatedly to get a group together and was finally told to use the LFG tool. So I did and got started within minutes. Done. Boom.
Ok, so I’m curious. How many people playing are actually in a guild? Or are most people mercenaries for hire?
I finished it just to get the reminder off my screen but it was there, everyday, for almost a year, so nope. It didn’t do anything for me. Just another mindless farming task to get done.
Yeah, it’s ok. I even joined a guild to get it done but they never had any interest or time to help. Use the LFG tool last night, was in a party in under 3 minutes. What was it? I think it was under, “dungeon,” not, “personal story,” and the title was something Arah. Click it and you’ll see people trying to get a group together. Join one. My group was already inside when I joined so I guess you should be at the door when you’re ready to start. Be ready to go in.
Level 80 Human Necromancer, Jade Quarry Server, PvE, EST, way past time to complete Victory Or Death dungeon. Optionally comes with a Level 80 Elementalist/Mesmer/Ranger/Warrior (he has ADHD, LOL) who is also interested in a new guild. He enjoys some WvW, but I have no interest in it.
We’ve had a dead guild since day one so neither of us have any dungeon experience. The 2 of us are the sole active players from our guild. Neither of us would know a good dungeon build if it jumped up and slapped us.
I’d like to finally finish my personal story, he’d like to see everything with every character several times (ADHD) and hasn’t made it that far with any of his characters. And even if he had, 2 people can’t do a dungeon. Yes. We’ve tried.
We play every evening for dailies, sometimes during the day as well, but mostly it’s log on to clear dailies, look around for something interesting, find nothing, log off. We also compete with each other about getting Monthlies within the first 2 weeks of the month. Can’t wait for the in-game holidays! I’m an Emissary of the Mad King and a Master Carver. What? I can’t hear you. I have a pumpkin on my head! LOL Oh, that Mad king! His jokes slay me every year!
Is THAT what they’re good for? I haven’t had a key since the game started so I just sell the chests as soon as I get them. Thanks for clearing that up.
Yeah, you know those red poppies all over GW? Yeah, that’s Europe in the spring. So I’m on my Grand Tour of Europe and by Germany, I can hear the background music while I’m walking around the ruined castles. Ruined? Right, clearly the Charr had come through, taking down those stone towers. From the ground, we could totally see where to climb on the crumbled walls to get to the top, where SURELY there was a map to view. If only I had my staff, I would have given it a try, but I suspect those pesky Ascalonian ghosts were waiting for me and I couldn’t find a waypoint.
It was pretty surreal to see the game come to life like that IRL.
Other than that, I’d suggest finding a good core group of friends/guildies who you can reliably group up with for dungeons.
THIS!
I never finished my character’s story because it ends in a dungeon. I have one person who can sometimes go with me and we can’t do it with 2. Maybe I’m on a dead server because when I first got there, everyone was doing it and had no need for pugs (they all had useful guilds) but now it’s dead empty. Dead.
And it’s even deader at all the other dungeons so get you a group and stick with them because finding useful players is pretty difficult.
If you feel you’ve been grinding your way through the holiday…
then the game designers did a poor job. End of story.
Where are you using them?
They are only used inside the Scene of the Crime instance. They don’t work on the suspects in the open world.
THANK YOU! I didn’t know if I was suppose to with the dead guy in LA or not. Seemed like I got the point without it…hard to figure out without forum back-up!
I noticed that too. GW, they let you know what to do. GW2, you better be on the forum or you don’t know what’s going on most of the time. Specifically, the burning effigies. I couldn’t figure out why I didn’t get the point for burning 1. I did the cut scene. I won. Can’t set fire to the ones in town. What’s going on? Oh. You have to go hunt them all over the world. Well why didn’t an NPC mention that?
This is what reasonable people do. But some people rush to complete the achievement as fast as humanly possible, pay the cost for it with waypoints, and then some complain about wp costs. There’s not really any way we can help them if they’re set on doing that
Actually, after the first 30, I was tired of farming/grinding. And let me insert MY snide comment that sensible people can only do tedious for so long before they just want to get thru it as fast as possible.
Here’s your chance to toss in the, “well no one is making you do it,” crack.
Well, thanks, I guess, for becoming the poster boy for why the holo projectors are anti-community.
Huh? Ok, first of all, 300 is an unreasonable goal. It’s like the dragon wings. All it proves is that someone spent every waking moment standing at one of those holo projectors for days, not doing anything else either in the game or in real life. Or they foolishly spent real money on virtual goods.
I stood at a holo for one solid day, until I could not stand it another second. I’m up to 33%. I’ll never make it. 300 is too high a number. It’s beyond enjoying a little Dragon Bash fun. The dragon wings are worse. But my point is, if you want to blame anyone for sucking the fun out of it, blame the game, not the players. Bashing a few dragon pinatas is festive. Killing hundreds of holos is tedious and mind-numbing.
Second, since I’ve yet to see ANY players at any holo I’ve stood at, so how is this, “anti-community?” The game has died down considerably over the last few months so you better learn to to play alone if you want to survive. For that matter, there are plenty of projectors in the game. Go find another one full of players if that’s your thing. Personally, I am a single player and think other people spoil MY game which is why I do all the mission alone. All the events alone. All the holos alone. If something is too crowded, I go somewhere else or come back later. I sure don’t accuse other people of being anti anything. GW2 is big enough for everyone to play any way they want and none of us have any business criticizing other people for how they decide to spend their money, whether they enjoy a single-player or multi-player experience.
Yup. It’s glitched.
“Someone with a job, family, obligations, and precious little free time – should have made time for the dungeon (read: 10 minutes) before tonight.”
I was one of those that didn’t see a warning at all that the dungeon will be closed. But at least I did ENTER the dungeon to get the achievement.
Hey, I wouldn’t have even ENTERED if I hadn’t read here that that’s all you had to do. I was ready to skip it because I don’t have a party of 5. So kudos to the few people who mentioned that along the way. And my spouse (and guildie) who’s away on a business trip did not get the time to play during the dungeon. I’m going to have to hear about that for a year so don’t do this again with Wintersday. There’s only so much complaining I’ll be able to bear.
If it wasn’t for this forum and the wikis, I’d have not done most of the event. Like the clues for the ghosts? Yeah. It took me a few hours even to figure out how to start. The clues didn’t EVEN point me in the right direction either. Thanks to the wiki, I could do that event.
Thanks to this forum, I discovered that all I had to do was jump in to the Mad King’s crater to get the point for participating. Since I don’t have a group of 5, I would have skipped it, just like I skip all the dungeons. I thought I’d have to go in and win to get the point.
So, yeah, it would have been nice if the game was self-explanatory like GW1 was. Do better for Wintersday, y’all. Looking forward to candy cane ore, LOL
We’re day 2 into the rain bands and strong winds and still have power. It’s all good in Florida!
Removed ToT locations in LA... why??? Fix broken things instead, pls...

Wow. I didn’t know about them. How come everyone else found out?
