Here’s an update for how trait-lines look in the book. This is the meat and potatoes, so it’s taking a while. But whenever I’m just waiting on a query/having nothing else to do I add up whatever I can.
It really is amazing how much work the devs have done, though. Just formatting/typing/creating ideas for this document is mentally exhausting. =)
Hey all, thanks for the responses.
So I have experience with pretty much all the D&D editions (except maybe the original), WoD, and Pathfinder. I have made several homebrew rule-sets along with their associated worlds, most recently a sci-fi setting that focuses on less dice-rolling, more hard numbers.
The approach I’ll be taking to this will be to emulate the systems from GW2 as we know them and translate them to pen and paper as best I can (with the fun of added dice rolling, because RNG is a must =P). You will only have access to a skill bar like GW2, specializations/trait lines are incredibly important to how you progress your character and unlock utilities.
D&D feats will make a sort of appearance in the form of achievements (we love our AP in my D&D group), but will be less prolific and have more unique effects. Weapon skills are a thing. All sorts of stuff.
After I finish with the base specializations and current elite ones, I’ll plan on adding my own (probably will dip in WoodenPotatoes collection of submissions for inspiration) with complete traitlines, weapon skills, and utilities. However, that will only happen once I’ve finished all the baseline stuff.
I know there are systems out there you could apply to GW2 already (Pathfinder, most assuredly), but hey, nothing has unique GW2 mechanics, and I want to represent that, complete with the dodge roll. From what I saw, the others who had been working on something as mentioned above have dissipated. This will just be something I work on in my free time anyways. I have a lot of free time at work as I’m constantly waiting for queries to run on my computer, so…. ;D
Anywho, working on the guardian now. Once I finish with the base power set and achievements, I’ll look into playing the system with a few of my friends (or anybody else who wants to help test, really) in order to get a better sense of balance. I’ll have to go back and edit power/achievos/etc.

@Hahnchen
Thanks for the link. I haven’t decided what exactly I want to use yet, but your art is amazing. =D
Sounds great. Thanks for the invitations, guys. =)
I’ve experienced the first wing entirely through pugs, but I’m looking to join a guild that does this on a regular basis and knows it fairly well. These are the professions that I can bring and that I’m familiar with:
Dragonhunter (Hammer or GS variant)
PS Warrior
Vipermancer
Zerk Tempest
I will soon have a druid healer up and running, but I’m still in the gearing process, so it’s not my first priority right now.
Not quite sure where to put this in the forums as I mostly just skulk around not saying anything…
Soooo, I might be a little bit of a tabletop nut. So much so that I’ve begun a fairly large project of creating a pen and paper rule-set for Guild Wars 2. I’ve fondly named it GW2P&P. Anywho, attached are some screenshots of my current project.
I’ve finished the groundwork systems, and I’m just about done with the base warrior profession (the first profession I started on despite my not actually playing it often >.>). Once I’m done with all the professions, I’ll start on the races and fill in the other details.
If anybody is interested in sharing some artistic talent, I have a crap-ton of text, but would like to break it up with some great GW2 art spread around the pictures. And if anybody is interested in the final product, I’ll be happy to share once I’ve finished.
And, yes, there will be a bestiary.
And, no, there will be no SAB.
Let me preface this by saying that I’m not endorsing anything releasing in HoT, nor do I have an opinion on what they just released on the blogs or what they said around release time. I just want to address the idea of grinding being a foreign idea in gaming- or even a bad idea.
Grinding by my definition would simply be repeating simple tasks over and over to achieve a desired result. It can be a small amount, or it could be ad nauseum, but every game has a grind to it.
1) Minecraft – Mine for materials over and over to get what you want to build what you want.
2) Standard RPG (thinking of Dragon Age while typing this) – Kill enemies over and over and run around clicking on things over and over to further a story or get that extra skill point that makes your build come together.
Grind in and of itself is not a bad thing, just like the term ‘casual gamer’ (which I would claim to be). It’s simply if we enjoy the reward enough (or the process of doing that grind) that justifies the grindy actions.
Tl;dr – Grind’s not objectively bad. Let’s provide constructive criticism of their approach to things with feedback that helps.
Raids excludes players, and it's ok.

Didn’t really have time to read the entire thread, but I generally agree with OP. Though, I would reword it by not saying that content “excludes” someone, rather that it “provides opportunity for a certain group of players”,
e.g. I don’t play WvW because I’m simply not very good at it currently. WvW doesn’t exclude me from logging into it; it simply requires a skill-set I don’t have. If I wanted to, I could learn said skill-set and do well in it. Raids are just the same. They require a skill-set that a section of the player-base will have to learn. Simply because it requires personal development on the player’s part does not mean it ‘excludes’ anybody. Just my two cents. =P
Lol. Thanks. Didn’t even connect the lobster.
So there’s an NPC on the way to the Hidden Cache #2 that says being way up there really makes her hungry. For something dipped in butter. Afterwards, my only option was to say, “Hope you find something then.” Has anyone ever brought something to her from the cooking discipline? Or am I just over analyzing it?
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I loved this LS episode and everything it embodied (return to deep lore, new map specific mechanics and rewards, and quality content). My only problem is finding out how to fit in work over the next few weeks… =)

Why no love for Aerie!?
Is that what your username is inspired by? :P She was ok… Yup, that’s the best way to put it, I think. I will refrain from making any more BG references to keep this thread in check. Sorry for our colective squirrel moment.
Personally thought Jaheira had a better romance path, but I’d be happy with Viconia. On a more serious note, though the idea would require a TON of man hours away from other things. As much as I like the idea, I’d prefer a Canthan expansion pack.

Only my first paragraph was directed at your quote….sorry if you thought the rest was directed at you specifically.
Oh, no problem, no problem. I was just clarifying my opinion.
Sorry it took me so long to respond. It is Crystal Desert (NA).
Here is a youtube video that explains a quick way to turn karma to gold. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lF0u-coEq_0. Other than converting it into gold, the only other real use for it now is legendaries and temple gear as stated above.
Heya. I’m levelling some alts and wouldn’t mind the company. Just shoot me a message here on the forums, and we can hook up somewhere.
Neverwinter has a somewhat similar system that rewards players for logging in every day, but it can get quite frustrating. If you just miss one day (work late, family emergency, what have you) all your benefits just hit the tank. Not a fan of that system.
Not sure of the details of “all our benefits hit the tank”, but that’s not the case in GW2. You miss a few materials, don’t get ONE of each of the refinements and don’t get ONE Laurel. Might push your “schedule” by a day, but nothing huge is “lost”.
I get the suggestion is for the convenience of the players (and I would certainly use it if available), but there is also ONE more thing to remember about Anet NEEDING players in the game.
Sans gem cards (that seem to be harder to find these days….Amazon quit selling them) and new game sales, the ONLY way Anet makes RL revenue is in-game gem purchases. The less time ANY player spends actually in the game is less time any player CAN purchase gems. Nobody can deny that the continued success of the game (and the servers staying on for all of us) requires that players BE IN THE GAME. PERIOD.
You can dislike the economic model all you want, but it is what it is.
What you said about the business model. I was only referencing Neverwinter when explaining what I didn’t like about the daily log-in reward system they set up. I do enjoy the system that GW2 has made personally.
It totally depends if you care about RPing or not. Imho, norn have a more established lore that revolves around rangers. However, I do not care for the bulk of muscle on my screen, and I do enjoy the human stories better.

Are talking about the episodes? If so, I would be willing to help you complete them any time. If that’s not an option I would recommend just paying attention to the special mechanics of each boss.

If you have a lot of karma sitting around, use the bloodtide coast heart vendor by the crabs to get the blue gloves. Throw them in the mystic forge to get gloves to salvage for linen. Sell and use the gold to buy silk. Sounds complicated but really quite easy. If you want help just message me.
Hey OP just started a new Charr with a friend for youtube recording fun. I’m a vet in GW2 and you’re more than welcome to join us. We both are in NA. I think we just hit level 10 if thats an issue. If you’re curious just search juicebox charr brothers on youtube. I would put a link here, but I’m on my cell.
Shoot me message if you want to participate, and we will work things out.

Heya OP! I’ve been playing guardian since I purchased the game, so I have a fair amount of experience with it. I found the same frustration you did with survivability and tweaked my Berserker build a tad and have no problems since. DPS is very respectable and survivability is awesome. E.g. Ran a 15 fractal the other day with no agony resist and had no problems. Here’s a link to my build in video form: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHEp5LP-R6Q&list=UU-tlslzrjmddKDAt-Roe_vA
True that. I’m glad the skill bar was changed back. My only real gripe with the patch was the pandering to people who don’t know how to play the game. I think that, just like any other game, we should learn to play it. Keep the difficulty, I say.
