WAY OF THE SKIRMISHER: TIME IS ON MY SIDE
As skirmishers, Rangers need to maintain consistent pressure over time. Recharge traits should be key to their performance but often lack secondary “flavor” effects. This is an attempt to update or combine traits to give recharge choices more flavor. New traits filling the resulting gaps are intended to enhance Ranger effectiveness as skirmishers by making it difficult to ignore or recover from pressure applied by Ranger attacks rather than increasing their raw damage. They focus on striping or countering boons that allow the enemy to endure the Ranger’s steady assault.Marksmanship IV: Perfect Aim (NEW) – The damage from your attacks is not reduced by protection. (fills slot vacated by Signet Mastery; coding note – equivalent to +50% damage against targets with protection)
Marksmanship IX: Mighty Signets – Activating signets grants might and signet recharge time is reduced 20%. (combines Signet Mastery & Beastmaster’s Might)
Marksmanship X: Marksman’s Speed – Longbow and short bow attacks pierce and recharge time is reduced 20%. (combines Piercing Arrows & Quickdraw)
Skirmishing VI: Hunter’s Horn (NEW) – Horn skills also randomly remove one of Retaliation/Swiftness/Vigor from up to 5 foes in range. (fills slot vacated by Agility Training)
Skirmishing X: Nature’s Venoms (NEW) – Each time you or your pet poison a foe, that foe loses regeneration. (fills slot vacated by Quickdraw)
Wilderness Survival VI: Wilderness Knowledge – Using a survival skill removes a condition from both you and your pet and survival skill recharge time is reduced by 20%.
Wilderness Survival X: Martial Mastery – Critical hits with sword, greatsword, and spear attacks apply vulnerability (3 stacks; 5 seconds duration; 5 second cooldown) and recharge time for these skills is reduced by 20%.
Beastmastery I: Speed Training – Pets move faster and their basic skill recharge time is reduced by 20%. (combines Agility Training and Speed Training)
Beastmastery III: Hunter’s Call – Using a shout reveals up to 3 foes within 600 (15 second cooldown) and shout skill recharge time is reduced by 20%. (renamed Shout Mastery)
Beastmastery VI: Commanding Voice – Pets gain stability for 4 seconds when you press f2 and f2 skill recharge time is reduced 20%.

When i played my thief a lot, this trait killed me more then any other trait in the game.

im glad that some1 loves ranger as much as me to even do this much posting and digging, but sadly my friend “All is vain”, there has not been any changes during 1 year+ that the games been out, most if not all of this problems have always been there, and in 2,3 years you will log on and they will still be there.
I invite all ranger to keep this thread in the top page by commenting and giving ideas in the format that you have advised.
Ok, so I’m pretty new to ranger, (level 20) and my goal is to be using a LB with maximum range and glasscannonness for damage in WvW.
I don’t intend to do much PvE other then levelling, and 0 dungeon/fractal content,
I would, however, like to here which traits you guys would recommend, I am already thinking 20/20 at the top for maximum LB range and increased damage/reduced recharge, but where would you guys put the last 30 points? (assuming once I’m level 80 and all)
Also, which runes/sigils would you recommend using? I am thinking something like perception stacks and building up to 25, then swapping to a force, or perhaps fire/air, and using something like scholar runes, but I’m really not sure,
I would appreciate the input, Thanks!

- - if your not going to do dungeons or pve then why bother going glass? condi is meta everywhere outside of pve.

Anyone who has played Hunters in WoW knows how amazing pets can be. This is why I am here. If Anet wants to rework the pet, PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE PET. A Hunter in WoW also has a ton of mechanics attached to the pet, meaning if the hunter pet died, the hunter would be in a lot of trouble.
You would expect Hunters to be weak in this game right? WRONG! Hunters are known for their extensive crowd control, pet utility, and many actually consider them OP! I know this might come as a shock to some of you, but Anet can make the pet much, much more useful if they implemented some things in GW2 pets that were in WoW pets.
World of Warcraft has a large amount of hunter-pet synergy. There are a number of pet-based skills and customization, micromanagement options & multi-role-filling. WoW pets are also very hardy. The pet controls are also very good, and macroable—you can recall your pet at will by hitting Follow (unless you have DoTs on the target, which makes a pet on Assist ignore you >.>), or position it in place for a screenshot. The pet follows tight on your left side at all times in a proper obedience dog Heel position. They do not kitten around wherever they want like they do in GW2.
WoW pets have an ability which reduces AoE damage by 90%!!!! This is why pets are known as absolute tanks in this game when a hunter is soloing. Not only this, but hunters have a cast-and-forget spell that heals their pet 5% HP each and every second, for 10 seconds, and it has no cooldown at all. If GW2 pets had sturdier pets, they wouldn’t have to worry about getting completely destroyed just because their pet dies, just like Hunters would have a major disadvantage especially a beast mastery hunter. GW2 isn’t WoW, so the AoE reduction doesn’t have to be 90%. Hell, all you have to do is make the pet dodge with you -_-
The pet AI in WoW is also so so so so much better I can’t even begin to explain. The fact that pets actually travel AHEAD of where the players are going, makes it so that they get so much more hits in than GW2 pets does, and therefore, increases the pets reliability on damage output. I can’t tell you how many times a frost mage in WoW froze me in an ice cube but my pet manage to kill it even as he was running away CCing the pet, it’s because the pet got a head start. Did I forget to mention they respond INSTANTLY to your commands?
Pets in WoW have so many abilities to have keep up with an enemy. They have a move that increases their movement speed when activated, very useful for getting hits in. They also have an ability called blink strike if you decide to unlock it, it makes your pet instantly teleport to the enemy on a 30 sec cooldown, how amazing is that? Someone just CCd your pet and now it’s far behind? NP, blink strike!
Pets are NOT a flawed mechanic. PLEASE keep them in the ranger class. Just do it right Anet, I beg of you. If you can’t think of ideas, look at hunters and their trusty pets who could own a ranger pet in pretty much anything

Pop healing spring and proceed to maul someone’s face off while they try to use: A, raw damage which gets healed right back with the finishers or B, with condis which get cleansed and healed right away.
Only thing they need to change is to be able to interrupt them leap so you can use dodge when needed.
so your telling me that when a thief steals a ranger and gets the water field, which then results in the thief spamming heart seeker thru it to heal to full hp in seconds… Is not OP?
I personally like the other suggestion better, would be nice if it was only a chance like projectiles, but why should it all leaps have 100% why would ranger be any different.

pvp – lynx for dmg and condis, wolf for cripple, knock down and fear . if you know how to time their kittened skill casting and such they work wonders.
pve – ? any pet really it dont matter.

Hello fellow rangers, over the 492 days playing ranger I have read many crazy stuff in this forum, so now it is time for me to contribute to the madness.
My CRAZY! suggestion is to make the sword #1 third chain a leap finisher and take away the “might to pet” part.
Slash – Slash your foe.
Kick – Kick your foe, crippling them for a short time.
Pounce -Leap at your foe, striking them. Your pet gains might.
Maybe my Engrish very bad, but I think it says “Leap at your foe” there but it is not a leap finisher, and how many of you know that skill makes you pretty much fly around every where if do not have anything targeted.
Some of you maybe be like: wtf this nab talking we have hornet strike.
Hornet Strike – Stab your foe, then evade backward.
Well you see Monarch’s leap says its a leap in the description and it is in fact a leap finisher, so why not our 3rd chain in sword #1. The way I look at it is like how does leaping at your foe makes ur pet more mighty? like waaaaaa?
We wont be as annoying as thief with their Heart Seeker spam since we actually have to hit 2 times b4 the 3rd chain. Also we wont be able to do any leaps if we are not fighting any1 so its not that bad. I know some of you will say “OP” “WTF” “NOOB” , but none will come 1v1 me so have a good day.

Second of all you keep saying “Oh that Ranger ran..blah..blah…blah tower…blah blah” obviously you must of missed the entire part where both (the warrior and the pug) went down and i tried to res them just to be loaded with condis (necros obviously) so i took shelter in to tower. BUT let me say this… you were defending your thief b4 saying thats how thiefs are supposed to play or what not. Maybe you should teach me to play ranger, cuz i was not aware i was supposed to stand there and not use any my evades and let my self be killed in a 3 v1… SO PLZ enlighten us with your wisdom OH MIGHTY FORUM GUARDIAN… ROFL

There is a huge difference amongst dodges for evasion, s/d skills that contain the benefit of an evade inside the skill itself , and just strait up running halfway across the BL to finally die by my underwater kill shot near dh garrison.

why do you have martial mastery and wilderness knowledge seems that those traits are barely been of any use.
(Edit: Those posting about roaming from) ET and SF are just a bunch of bad mannered kids. They talk of roaming only when they are outnumbered, but when they are roaming in higher numbers they dance on the dead as if that is going to bring out some shame, and not that I died to a heartseeker-spamming trash thief squad. I hereby challenge ANYONE from SF or ET to a duel. Let’s see if you guys can actually live up to your big forum trash talk.

Yeah, I had huge lag on that map today as well.
same, have not been able to have a good duel today thanks to the massive lagg spikes and the disconnects on middle of duels.

so since a couple of day ago i been lagging a bit in spvp. today i went to duel with some of my buddys and most of us were lagging and two of us disconected in the middle of the duel.
Is anyone else having this issue?
btw my internet connection is fine barely ever lag in this game other than friday reset night.

Is anyone else guesting on a server cough blackgate, and gets put on the overflow, and when the queue pops up you get sent to another overflow? like what is this?!! is been happening since yesterday, and today i guested again cough blackgate, and i pressed to travel to the server and it gave me an error message, not to mention my game keeps crashing during the Tequatl fight. Yes i was there when blackgate killed it too bad my game crashed ar 25% hp and when I logged back in GUESS WHAT!??? OVERFLOW YAY!
I am having the same problem. even though im in 5 guilds tried representing them all, but it keeps saying im not in a guild.
EDIT: restarting the game client fixed it for me.

totally agree lol i was thinking this while watching PAX on twitch, I’m like biggest mistake of my life , getting my ranger t3 cultural and a legendary … facepalm
and this is why i roll a spirit ranger for pvp [ez pz], a perma stealth thief for wvw[even more ez pz], and a guardian for pve [also ez pz]. No matter how much i love my ranger and its t3 cultural armor and its legendary torch rodgort, theres no way i can take him everywhere i want.
mmm, that might be it. but how does 100 (average of the damage done on the hits) times 16 (the amount of hits hunter’s call does) equals around 5k? it should be around 2k if u sum it up. U might be right though i’ll test it again tmr.

So I been playing ranger for a year now, and I have always been annoyed that I can not see , my pet’s damage or my condition’s damage on the combat tab, but today I was trying a Power/Toughness build and I was using Sword/Warhorn, So I was dueling some of my friends for a while and then I SAW IT!! on a thief my hunter’s call alone was doing 4000+ damage by it self. When I went to check it on my combat tab, it said I was doing 90s , 100s, and 200s???? I was like… no way. So I started tested, and the Hunter’s Call damage got as high as 2500 and 3000 on the last hit, so it is impossible that I’m doing 90s and 100s damage to my targets. I have some screen shots to demonstrate. Hopefuly is not too hard to reproduce.
Iv’e been around here for a while, and honestly, the whining is starting to kitten me off.
This forum can be split in three pieces; willing, reluctant and unwilling to learn. The wast majority are completely unwilling to learn, or to explore how to play, build and level the profession. Then there is a large group that is reluctant to believe that this profession can ever do anything their “insert different profession here” can’t do better. Finally, we got a minute part of this community, that goes off, explores and tests stuff and become really good at playing this profession.The main problem you lot face, is that you think this profession is meant to be everything it isn’t. A lot of you whine the DPS, compares it to the warrior. Well HELLOOOO the warrior is the DPS profession in this game. Then the others complain about us not having as good group utility as a guardian, well FACE IT, the guardian was designed to be a great teamplayer.. Then there is all the whining about thieves, well thieves are obviously designed to either screw you over or die trying. That’s actually what they do. Either they kill you, or they run away/die trying.
When will people realize that this profession are not built around the concept of " I R LEGOLAS" and instead realize it is a roaming/survival class. We don’t run around in shiny armor, because we aren’t supposed to be soliders.
Want to know what this profession is? It’s that stubborn old fart living up in the mountains with his trusty sidekick. That’s what it is. Not some shiny knight that went undercover as a adventurer.
Then there is the case about the devs. The devs, although partially to blame, tries as hard as they can to deliver on their promises, and listen to us. yet every single patch, people scream murder, even when they recieve a massive buff. Either you are all pathetic trolls, or too narrowminded to even understand how good a job the devs have done. All i can say is, the devs deserve a round of applause.

Everyone is like “FIX THIS NAO B-CUSS IT SUCKZ!” But doesn’t try to come up with a fix.It is probably easier for Anet to fix the pet pathfinding so that it is smoother rather than to remove the mechanic, come up with a new one and recreate a lot of traits.
Removing pet mechanic is a huge change and would take at least a year to balance all the new things.
ALSO A FUN-FACT:
Statistics show that a majority of people who are active on the forums are there because they have a problem with the product. Which leads us to me saying; this is partially stupid because you will obviously have a much greater amount of ‘+1’ than ‘-1’

I SO agree with this. This has been the major part of my frustration as a ranger. Some ppl may complain about traits and such, but since anet wants rangers to be a pet/player combo this should of been fixed first.
i swear, if i had a penny for every post like this one, i would be dam rich. the profession is fine, you depend on ur pet and ur pet on u and thats supposed to be. if u cant handle that delete ur ranger and re-roll a warrior and use longbow… done.
when i see posts like these, I laugh and think on my head “rangers aren’t bad, there’s just too many players that do not know how to play them”… and to be honest the “nerf” didn’t even hurt me at all can still kill any1 in spvp in a 1v1.
